Homemade Crumpets

  • Crumpets are fairly simple buns that one person described as halfway between an English muffin and a pancake. They are baked on a griddle using crumpet rings. Bubbles rise to the surface leaving little craters to hold melted butter and jam. Enjoy them for breakfast or anytime with coffee or tea.

    This is a really REALLY good recipe but as an English man I strongly recommend that you DO FLIP THEM AND COOK FOR A MIN AND A HALF. A crumpet should have that lovely flat cooked bottom but the top should be flipped in the frying pan just to give a little little brown colour. Once done toast and add butter. Yummy.

      I was about to say the same, that the crumpet should be flipped 👍 (u.k.)

      @@royksk and when toasted afterwards, they should be a little bit crispy on the outside and soft in the centre, with loads of butter so it's dripping out of the bottom and you can mop it up from the plate with the crumpet as you eat it! Yummy!

    Great recipe, they look delicious. The British traditional way of making crumpets, is to lightly brown the tops, so the crumpets will need removing from the rings and replacing on the griddle for a minute❤

    We flip them and cook the top for a couple of minutes to lightly brown them. Yours look so good. We toast them if they are cold and add butter and jam.

    I agree with Jonh Doe. Flip over for 30 seconds to make the top golden. Although traditional, you don't have to use rings. They can be done free-form. My personal best is to eat them dripping with butter, and either honey or Bovril, or in my wife's case, Marmite and honey mixed!! These freeze for a long time, and can be popped in the toaster from the freezer. Probably need to be done twice.

    They look mouthwateringly delicious Dennis! That is indeed my favorite thing about crumpets- the way the butter melts into the little holes on top. Thanks for sharing this recipe. I am now tempted to rush out and buy some crumpet rings, as I've never actually made them before!

    The point of crumpets, are the nooks n crannies! butter melts into them, fruit, whatever you want to put on top! They are my favourite, I appreciate the recipe as bought, they are expensive, so now I can easily make my own! Thank you......

    Hi I’m English and in my sixties and have had toasted crumpets all my life, I can remember my Grandmother 👵 making crumpets in the sixties and early seventies. She use to make then on a flat iron on the cooking range in the kitchen, she would grill until a slightly darker brown colour then flip to dry the top and give it a bit of colour then let cool until everybody came in for a brew the crumpets were put back into the oven to warm for few minutes taken out buttered thin slice of cheese returned until melted and runny (all homemade butter, cheese and crumpets) you didn’t need anything else for elevenses.

    Good video and very wise to line the rings as crumpets have a nasty habit of sticking no matter how well you grease the rings! There are two options for finishing them off, you can either turn them over and lightly brown the tops, or finish them in the toaster the following morning for breakfast!

    Thanks for sharing this recipe. I've looked at several other videos, and this one seems to be a good one. It certainly produced a batch of fine looking crumpets. We just buy them at the supermarket in Australia, so actually cooking a batch will be a new experience. My go-to topping is butter and peanut butter and honey.

    Woo, this is great! I just found your vlog channel (again) which I’m now catching up on. I’m glad you’re still pumping out videos Dennis.
    Haha, I’m still crossing my fingers that maybe you’ll try your hand at yukgaejang one day, but that’s a dish for colder months. If I may, I have another request to see how you might make chicken wings using the instapot. I know you’re not a huge fan of spicy so it wouldn’t have to be the classic buffalo chicken wings. Anyway, just a thought!

    • @MobileHomeGourmet
      @MobileHomeGourmet  6 років тому +1

      Thanks Tito. Your comment amused me because I've been waiting for the local Smart & Final grocery store to put chicken wings on sale so that I can cook them in my Instant Pot. You're right, I'm not a fan of hot and spicy. I'm thinking of something like a stew with stock, wings, carrots, potatoes, and onion, maybe a little flour toward the end to thicken the liquid to a gravy. The yukgaejang intrigues me. I'm a bit hesitant about the spice, but it might make a good video. Thanks for the ideas. -Dennis

    When I lived in England I loved them. They were different tho from the way all these on Youtue are made. Those I had weren't brown on top and didn't look like they had been turned. they were full of holes, soft and spongy and had a yeasty taste. I want a recipe like that. they can be turned quickly but want the rest for sure. i don't know if you use more yeast or what.

    Did you add eating sounds???

    • @MobileHomeGourmet
      @MobileHomeGourmet  6 років тому +2

      Just the opposite. Most of the editing time went into minimizing the sounds of eating. Here's a tip: If you shoot a cooking video, don't wear a head mike when eating. The sounds are magnified and they are annoying. For the tasting clip I need to remember to switch to the lavalier microphone that pins to my shirt. -Dennis
