He was definitely calmly and politely plotting your death while on his side in the rage cage. I bet he was composing it as poetry, maybe haiku. So cute!!! I love the lion cut. ❤
I had a Himalayan cat that when she was just a very small kitten, I took her to the groomer. She went every month and she was the Only cat they would groom. They trained her from 5 weeks old until she passed away. She was strictly an indoor cat. The rule in my house was that whosever she was sitting on, one of them was required to brush her while watching television. Perfect cat.
I had a Maine Coin that lived 23 years. She needed a lot of extra help with her grooming the last several years of her life. I think she was grateful for the help! Olivander seemed mostly happy too!
he was really sweet and tolerant even though he was low on his kitty timer. you can definitely see that he was protective of his back legs, which makes sense with his health problems. your compassion and professionalism always shines through, thank you for helping these animals
I will admit I've never been a fan of this cut on a cat however in this case I totally think it was the right call given how old he is,his health and avoiding pain and problems in the future. Thanks once again for putting the animals health and well-being above all else. ❤
What a good kitty, despite his discomfort! His lion cut looks like a deliberate choice rather than a handy fix... and "Olivander" is an AWESOME cat name, suits him perfectly.
He was so sweet. My guy is almost 20. It's very sad to see their grooming habits change. Thank you for being so wonderfully compassionate with him and he looks fantastic.
my heart just melted seeing this stately old fellow with his cloudy eyes. the first cat i ever adopted passed away last year. he was already well into adulthood when i got him and i had him for a decade. he was this old and world-weary by the end of it. i was bathing him and brushing him regularly too and he was so sweet and tolerant. the only time he ever voiced a complaint was when i had to cut his nails, and even then it was just a resigned grumble.
I have cared for elderly cats, am caring for two of them right now, both over 15 years old. A person's vanity should never outweigh the comfort and needs of a pet. Shaving a long-haired, matted, elderly cat can be a massive relief for the cat and should be considered first before the "prettiness" of the hair.
what a lovely old man :) We have a 10-year-old cats who doesn't take care of her coat at all, we bathe and wash her but she can't handle brushing either, so she gets the lion cut 3 times a year. She is 100 times happier now, she even likes her little sweaters in winter. She while she might look "prettier" with her long coat, the lion cut helps her itchy skin (allergies to everything) and makes her happy. That is all that matters.
Do you find that shaving actually helps with allergies? I have a poor little girl who isn't even a year old who has severe allergies to the point of scratching herself silly. The vet and I have been trying EVERYTHING to help her and we are at our wits end? Shaving is something we haven't thought of??
@@Nikki_81 Yes, it has helped her a lot. Plus finding grain free food that she liked (which was way more difficult) If her skin is very itchy - be it from mosquito bites, or just being dry - I give her an oatmeal bath that helps (she isn't a fan but it does help). She can also keep herself clean when shaved. I brush her with a boar bristle brush when she allows it.
Wow! What a very well-behaved gentleman. Mine was 21 when she crossed the rainbow bridge earlier this month, and she would have fought from the start. The vet even had to sedate her for everything.
For my Himalayan cat I preferred the lion cut as she got older. Would have the groomer do it in the late spring and my cat was more comfortable in the summer heat, as well as fewer hair balls and she was better able to clean herself. By the fall enough of the coat had grown back for her comfort during the winter. Plus always thought she looked super sporting the lion cut! You made Ollivander look great!
He just looks at everything with such indignity. My first cat did that too. She was born and for the next 22 years (I know, crazy) she was completely unimpressed with life.

Out of all of your videos between both channels, Olivander is my new favourite cat that you've shared. I legit gigglesnorted at his facial expressions throughout the entire video.
Thank you for putting the cat's wellbeing first. It always breaks my heart when owners won't shave their pets because they like the way it looks while their pet is just going to suffer for it.
It's a shame that lovely thick coat had to go, but with his age and discomfort over brushing, it's definitely the right choice in the long run. He'll have a much easier time being groomed and hopefully that means less discomfort too. What a fine old fellow. 💚
He is 80 years old in human years. Today morning, came to know about 14.5 years old female cat. These cat are living proof of how good their owners have taken care & enhance the pet's life in every way. Vanessa, you are the best choice for this handsome old man.
I had a female cat make it to 18 before kidney disease got the best of her. Just this past April, I lost my Siamese to the same thing. He was 17. A vet once told me, if they don’t get cancer by 12, what will usually get them in the end is the kidneys. They both lived very happy, spoiled lives and are probably happy to be with each other again in the afterlife.
@@AuskaDezjArdamaath same, my cat reached 19 and a half before the vet said it was time to put her down. she'd had kidney issues for years and was developing several other health issues so it was her time to go
My eldest boy, Gilmore, is 20 years old currently. He’s a VERY handsome black gentlemen who has a grizzled snout, which is the only sign of his mature age. Other than that, he is like a child! He zoomies all the time & is a major source of giggles. Senior cats are the absolute best
Ollivander was a beautiful boy and it's hard to see beloved pets in pain with old age. He looked so much happier and relieved after the lion cut, because that matting must have been stressful and uncomfortable for him. His owner was cleatly doing their best for him despite the pain he feels and now he won't have to go through all that grooming and feel stressed. He went from "what the heck is this?" to "yum, give me all the treats please".❤
I appreciate the cats videos as much as the dogs, I know how difficult they can be but you are just amazing and patient with them and the relief you have given to Ollivander is a gift!
Honestly, my partner's sweet, well behaved little terrier mutt is about this size and it takes both of us tiny women and sometimes our friend too in order to cut his nails, kudos for doing a cat (arguably way less well behaved than any dog) on your own! It always impresses me so much to see people wrestle animals like that. Both the skill and the patience are great!
My 13 yr old is long-hairded & has lost the self-grooming battle. Surprisingly she enjoyed the clipper "massage", especially on her (never touch) belly. I recently did a sanitary touch-up & got zero resistance. Although I think she secretly wanted the full body "massage" again! Her fur is filling in just I time for winter & it looks healthier. Love you & all you do! Have shared certain videos with friends for guidance on their difficult pets. You're the best with all the critters you groom. Kind, tolerant, patient & quite knowledgeable. Thanks!
I've been stressed for months and am about to be homeless by the end of the week. Weirdly enough your videos have been really calming and pulling me out of my own head so I just wanted to say thank you for that and thank you for all that you do for these animals, especially for the people that have pets they cannot afford to get help for. You do amazing work for so many pets.
Praying for you, been close myself, hope you find a hand up. I advise seeking out a bible believing church. A good one helps their own. Also there is nothing like knowing no matter what this world can do to me, it is well with my soul.
I do hope things work out for you…I was made homeless in 2020 and with 2 weeks to go found somewhere to live, after 7 months of fruitless searching. Nowhere would take my dogs. Now I am safe and comfortable, and I still count my blessings three years on. Sometimes something just comes along that you didn’t expect. And yes, getting out of your head in that situation is a wonderful thing, and not easy.
I am so sorry you are in this situation. If you start up a gofundme I would, and others I think, contribute to this and help you out. You could post a video and do the link for it on your own channel.
I've been there. Luckily I'm no longer homeless, but I've still got quite a bit of stress. I made a "wholesome animal videos" playlist out of videos that gave me the warm fuzzies or were calming, it's nice to watch when I start spiraling. You could make a playlist of your own out of videos you really liked and found relaxing?
That you made the decision to give him a partial shave in HIS best interest shows how truly animal oriented you are. He obviously has a caring owner are very few people I know who groom who are as consistently and completely about the animal first and what the owner wants (because of looks not comfort)is second. Good for you Vanessa.
Pets are too much commitment for me, but I do love getting 'in-sync' with other people's pets, and making them happy. Your videos teach me new techniques, thank you.
Around 14-16 is when we started having to get our kitty seasonally shaved. She lived to be 20 and after 18-19 she stopped growing back as much fur. Miss you graybaby ❤
Before I even watch, I have to share the fact, that when I see a notification, it literally puts a smile on my face, thank you ever so much, and I am so so happy that I found your channel🤩, now back to it, sending lots of love to all the fur babies that you come across and to all who have fur babies watching your channel💕🐶😻💕✌🏻
What a nice kitty. I had my long haired orange girl shaved into a lion cut one summer when she was 12. She felt so much better. Her undercoat never grew back properly but she also never got serious matting after that.
Himalayan/Persian cats are my favorite! I had one that looked so much like this one. He was like a dog in many ways. He came when you called and greeted you when you got home. He played fetch. He never jumped up on tables and counters. He wasn't an annoying meower. He slept right on the foot of the bed. And his disposition was second to none. He wasn't a hunter though. He never wanted to go outside. I picked him up and set him down outside and he ran back in the door, haha. He was just the perfect cat. ❤️
Olivander reminds me a lot of my grumpy senior cat (passed 2 years ago) in that "I'm very much not happy about this, but I'm also used to it." He's being soo good, all things considered. I loved my senior cats, and if it were up to me alone, I'd love fostering older cats. Instead, after losing two elderly cats, we got a rambuctious kitten and she's a sweetie, but soooo energetic.
A) I love the kitty videos (I'm a cat person and I also love watching your dog videos but the cats get an extra smile from me). B) I always check to see if you have a video when I first arrive at UA-cam. You're an auto-watch for me. :) I love the energy you have with the animals.
Awhhh…what a darling, old boy. It was like he half wanted a Spa day and half just thought: “I am way too old to tolerate this nonsense”. The owner sounds like an Excellent fur-Mom. I’m glad she gave him some pain meds prior to his appointment, and SUCH a good boy in the shower. Vanessa - as always, I think that was a good call - I’m sure Ollivander feels better and will be able to groom himself more easily. He looks quite a bit like one of my grand-kitties.
Again, absolutely LOVED this video!!! Makes me think; I should get my Persian cat groomed more often. I can only imagine how fresh and light they must feel!
He is a good boy. He was quite patient and only got really testy when you were almost done. I think you have sound judgment on his cut due to his age and arthritic joints. Awesome, Vanessa!❤
You are spot on for how quick the cat bites come. My kitty is a biter, and those sneak attacks are a killer! She is an Angel at the vet and when I had a neighbour who was groomer, who did her nails, paw pads, and butt. She has bitten my ankles, thighs, all parts of my arms, my nose, and my bare butt. 😂 God I love her!!❤
I’ll never understand how people have cats that continuously bite or scratch. I could never handle an animal in my home acting like that. I’ve rescued over 40 cats and 20 dogs and Idk how I’ve gotten lucky with the horror stories I’ve seen and heard especially with ferals. Maybe it’s the bonding and training we do. All of our cats love their bellies rubbed and have never once even gently used their teeth on me lol
The poor, beautiful cat. You did a wonderful job! He looked so much happier! I love to hear how sweet you are to them as they are all groomed! Very kind!
Such a handsome gentleman! ❤ From a catparent to other catparents: for your 13+ companions please consider adding good reliable joint suppliments to their diets. Glucosamine is an essential part of their joint health. And yes, I have seen the results both with my own and close friends felines. Painkillers can only do so much for our whiskered friends. ❤

@@adelissahunsley Thank you so much I appreciate the advice.
That you made the decision to give him a partial shave in HIS best interest shows how truly animal oriented you are. He obviously has a caring owner are very few people I know who groom who are as consistently and completely about the animal first and what the owner wants (because of looks not comfort)is second. Good for you Vanessa.
Loved how Olivander was looking around, taking everything in, when he just sitting down waiting if to be rinsed after the first shampooing
He looked so disgusted when you first offered him that Churu 😂
Pets are too much commitment for me, but I do love getting 'in-sync' with other people's pets, and making them happy. Your videos teach me new techniques, thank you.
Great work Vanessa! Love the mane style you gave Ollivander. He looks great! I can only imagine how happy he was to have those mats removed.
I’m so glad you ended up going for the lion cut. As a fellow geriatric- there are times when we have to sacrifice beauty for comfort 👵🏼🐱
Around 14-16 is when we started having to get our kitty seasonally shaved. She lived to be 20 and after 18-19 she stopped growing back as much fur. Miss you graybaby ❤
Lol, he just looks so done when the happy hoodie gets put on!!!
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂
What a beautiful cat…16 years young! And a sweet boi too! Great job as always Vanessa!!
He was such a good boi and you were so gentle with him! Very good sign that he ate the treat after, I bet he felt sooooo much better!
It’s nice to see someone who cares so much when it comes to their job. You treat the senior Katz with such care and such tenderness.
Bless it. He’s a good boy.
Yes, hims is a good boy! 😞💕
You do such a wonderful job with the animals, you are a heaven sent hon. Thank you for all you do
The disgruntled “mrau” in the bubble 😂😍🥰
In the end, the cat was filled with trust in the groomer and accepted the treat from his hands! Bravo!
The immediate bonk against the wall when she put the bubble on him was honestly kind of funny
What a majestic elderly man ❤❤❤👵🏴🌹
You know you did good when a cat takes food from you after that whole ordeal ❤!
Ollie is so well mannered for a cat getting a bath and clip from you. Great job on his coat!
He even liked on his side for you. He's such a sweet boy.
He's adorable. I love how compassionately you take care of all the animals you groom.
I’m surprised he was as mellow as he was, not totally of course but really quite good. Beautiful older cat. 💚💚
Cats with the happy hoodie always look like they’re gearing up to brave arctic temperatures so they can fish out of a hole in the ice
Again, absolutely LOVED this video!!! Makes me think; I should get my Persian cat groomed more often. I can only imagine how fresh and light they must feel!
I am absolutely loving the longer cat videos!
He is a good boy. He was quite patient and only got really testy when you were almost done. I think you have sound judgment on his cut due to his age and arthritic joints. Awesome, Vanessa!❤
Kitties are so cute! I love it when they use their little back thumpers to push away anything unwanted or their front swipers ❤
What a sweet and precious kitty
What a sweet old fellow. I bet the warm water felt really good to him. So much floof!
He was feeling so much better so he ate a snack 😻😻😻
What a lovely chap he is. I'm sorry your go-pro didn't get your usual after-shot but could see he looked adorable in his lion cut 👍
I miss my little old man, he was 17 when he shuffled loose this mortal coil 😢 Olivander was so polite with his displeasure, such a good kitty 💙
I lost my old man cat at 17 as well. Kidneys. He had a spoiled life all the way to the end.
From a catparent to other catparents: for your 13+ companions please consider adding good reliable joint suppliments to their diets. Glucosamine is an essential part of their joint health. And yes, I have seen the results both with my own and close friends felines. Painkillers can only do so much for our whiskered friends. ❤
Can confirm. They're not a cure but can relieve some discomfort
