Post credit scenes used to act as a hint or a nice little Easter egg of sorts to look out for. But now, post credit scenes don’t hint at anything, they just show us everything
The Thanos reveal at the end of Avengers is the greatest post-credit scene ever. For the average viewer they had no idea what it meant but to comic fans we knew exactly what it was leading up to, and for us imagining the Infinity Gauntlet storyline coming to life on the big screen was mind blowing and exciting as f**k.
And as an average viewer, it meant I went home and looked it up, and got to enjoy second-hand hype from all the excited comics fans sharing the Infinity Gauntlet storyline.
Yeah that one was the best. But I want to say that prime fast and the furious franchise ( 2006-2015) cut scenes were on average better than prime mcu( 2008-2019) end credit scenes. When Jason Statham arrived at the end of furious 6 bro everybody in the theatre was shouting.
The video is right, the Guardians 3 one is like the only memorable one cause it doesn’t tease something. Same with Johnny getting exposed in Deadpool and Wolverine.
To quote Deadpool. "Can we just be done with the whole Multiverse thing. It’s not great. It’s just been miss, after miss, after miss, after miss. Look The Wizard of Oz did the Multiverse first and they did it best. The gays knew it but we didn’t listen. Let’s just take the L and move on."

What makes me disappointed in the Doctor Strange end credits scene was the fact we were left very confused with Mordo being a villain that was resolved many years later. I also feel as if the Ant Man and Spider-Man No Way Home's original end credit scene was wasted as well. Especially the Spider-Man one. A trailer to Multiverse Of Madness that released less than a week later
In the original script of MoM, it opened with Mordo going to Wanda's cabin, intending to either kill her or take her powers away because of Westview. She would then kill him and present his decapitated head to Strange. In the actual movie, Mordo is mentioned in a throwaway line to his Earth-838 counterpart. All Strange had to say is that his Mordo tried and failed to kill him countless times. Which is more insulting? Using Wanda to kill off the threat the first movie set up? Or saying that, throughout Ragnarok, Infinity War, Endgame and No Way Home, Mordo was still at large and carrying out his crusade but it wasn't important?

@@FantagonisticI remember following every movie since 2012s avengers. Always hyped for every project that followed. Now I’m only focused on the ones I want to see, I skipped over eternals, Agatha, and the marvels as a result
Agreed Avengers were in better hands with Paramount(of course of that era). With Disney they just wanted to burn through what paramount planned before relegating the Avenger stuff to a Disney subsidiary.
The shawarma scene in the first Avengers movie is such a classic! It is a post credit scene that didn’t lead to anything, but fans loved it, and was still talked about years later. Just pure fun!
Easiest fix for Iron Man 3's post credit scene in my mind is Hulk's Age of Ultron purple pants in the background. That and maybe some sort of tease for the Hulkbuster. Showing Tony Stark was upgrading the Avengers as his next project. Which ultimately leads to him creating...
I think my favorite post credit scene was Kong Skull island. You think all of the connections to Godzilla 2014 were likely setting something, up but then you see Godzilla, then Rodan, then Mothra. And then we get Ghidorah. It was fantastic to set up king of the monsters.
There was legitimately an ad for "Spiderman: Far From Home" that went "Spiderman: Far From Home has the most epic post credit scene ever" (or something among those lines, it was 5 years ago). Even then, I was like, "Ready? Are you that confident in your success that you're not going to tell me about your movie?" I gotta admit, I do miss the days old days of Marvel. Every time a movie ended, you already couldn't wait for the next one. The only Marvel show I've liked recently is "Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur" and it's telling that an animated non-MCU Disney channel show is currently better at storytelling. And ironically, season 1 ended on a cliffhanger with an intriguing post-credits scene!
6:18 Refers to Ronan betraying him and dying from the power stone that he was sent to retrieve. Imo its one of the best ones, even better than Avengers 2012. It has a double meaning, while he's most likely referencing Ronan, Ultron failing to destroy life on Earth, makes it seem like Tony was right to worry, there is someone else who will do it, and worse.
This is why the MCU and Marvel Studios NEEDS to take a year or two long break after Secret Wars. They need to stop releasing or announce any projects, and just take a year or two long break. During that time, Kevin Feige should organize a core creative team that oversees each project, hire writers and directors that are willing to be collaborative and showcase a new chapter in the massive story of the MCU. They also need to boost the minimum wage of VFX artists and wait till the VFX is finished BEFORE they release trailers and announce release dates of films and shows. Each film/show is meant to immerse the audience. How are the audience going to be immersed in your project when the VFX looks unfinished? The Flash, She Hulk, Josstice League, Thor Love and Thunder, etc are some Marvel and DC films that suffered because of this problem. And yet Disney and WBD don't really seem to care, and that is a major problem. When projects DO get the right amount of time and care, you get Godzilla Minus One, Avatar 1 and 2, Avengers Infinity War, The Avengers 2012, Michael Bay's Transformers, King Kong 2005, etc. These are majorly successful films that managed to immerse the audience because the VFX was finished and had love and passion behind it
@@Fantagonistic This is major problem. We're in 2024, approaching 2025. Back in the late 2000s, we would ask ourselves on how much better will CGI be in the future for movies, and we would always tell ourselves that it's only gonna get better...what happened man? 😔
Yeah man. This really just proved Scorsese's point. He didn't hate Marvel and DC movies, he just don't like how the directors and the writers don't have some freedom to make good stories. Some movies and shows should have been their own thing even if they take place in the same universe. The Daredevil show (which is now canon to the MCU) is good because it is it's own thing and doesn't have to tie in the movies. Phase 1 did have some post credit scenes and set up but they are just their own thing (same said for almost all of the X-Men movies). Heck, the Raimi trilogy was good (almost) because Sam Raimi had the time and freedom to make it a good movie (atleast Spider-Man 1 and 2).
@@Teenpool2009 To be fair most of the TV shows that introduce new characters are their own thing. Some may focus on a new character that is linked to a mainstay from the films, but a lot of these are truly standalone.
This makes me appreciate the Sonic movie post credit scenes more. Each one directly ties into the next movie and while most have been mid credits, the first true post credit scene in Sonic 3 is something more for the hardcore fans than the casual audience.
You don't have to be a hardcore fan to understand that Shadow survived the ark explosion. Lol what? He's still a recurring character in the games. The whole year was marketed as the "year of Shadow".
I still remember the day I accidentally saw my first mcu post credit scene on a dvd version of the avengers I was watching. I remember telling my parents about it excitedly and they didn’t beleive me, I felt so enraged. It became a vendetta for me. I kept trying to rewatch it to prove it to my family but I was so young that I kept either forgetting, getting distracted or falling asleep because I was so young it never occurred to me to fast forward or google it.
I used to want mid or post credits scenes to hype up the next project, but now I just kinda want them to do their own thing or provide some closure, like what Guardians 3 or Deadpool and Wolverine did. Because I'm just at the point where I'm wondering when we're going to wrap this all up. Endgame was the perfect climax to everything that was built up to that point, and anything after that should have been focused on making sure each remaining character ended in a good place, not keep expanding the universe and story.
I'm gonna disagree about Endgame. I thought it was poorly written and outright lazy. It didn't even feel like it was made by the same people that made Infinity War. Honestly, very disappointing.
I have no problem with them continuing and expanding after Endgame. I just wish they would’ve put a little more thought into it. Have a clear sense of where they wanted to take the MCU. Maybe taking some time off of the MCU to plan and create a new “saga”. Instead they just started pumping out movies and Disney + shows that feel extremely unconnected. And only a few gems in the past 5 years. And the Kang Dynasty being completely scrapped just felt very jarring. None of these stuff happened in the Infinity Saga. Not that I remember. It felt incredibly smooth. Every new character felt special. Every new movie felt special. Now I just wait for most movies to come out on Disney +. DP&W was the first marvel movie I watched in theaters since NWH.
I stopped watching after Endgame I just see videos talking about how poorly it’s become, because it’s impossible to avoid even though I don’t watch the movies since Endgame
Ngl, I love staying to watch the credits not much for a post credit scene but for the music on them, is like rewatching the movie while talking about it :)))
The post credit scenes after Endgame either go nowhere or just showcase how haphazard and unorganised everything is. Shang-Chi has the titular character meet up with Bruce Banner, Carol Danvers and Wong to talk about the Ten Rings. No Way Home has a “Gotcha” moment with Venom at a bar getting teleported back to his own dimension but part of him gets left behind. Multiverse of Madness has Doctor Strange get ordered by some chick wearing purple to fix an incursion he caused. Love and Thunder has Zeus decide to dispose of Thor by siccing Hercules on him. Bet you all of these ideas they tease get canned.
Of course they get canned. Cuz they planned these at a time where they were even more naive and stupid to think they could pump out more than they could make. To wrap all these plot threads up before the next avengers is impossible without MAJOR changes at marvel
NWH was Sony meddling to hype up their failed Spiderman universe, which is now officially canned but not before Venom 3 retconned that scene in the first place.
Not even kidding, as a former diehard MCU fan, I have never seen the Beast post-credit's scene after all this time. I didn't even know it happened until I saw the thumbnail for this video. God, how far we have fallen.
@@dylansharp8471reading these comments has become more of a game for me to see how many of these you've responded to with either a "I don't exactly agree" or a "How so?"
if you have seen transformers one, it has a fantastic set of post credits scene, one comedic one and another which sets up a sequel. smth modern marvel typically hasnt done the latter
I've been saying the same thing, I even commented on one of the Phase 4 post credit scenes saying *"How can you guys even get excited for these anymore?"*
The ones pointing to shows like Hawkeye are fine. But I don’t think the problem is just the post credit scenes, but just that Marvel isn’t coordinated- we used to see characters appear every year but now new characters like Shang Chi haven’t been seen since 2021
Marvel has been uncoordinated for years. Back when they had Agents of SHIELD on TV you could tell they didn't really care about the show. There were a lot of interesting ideas that could've been used to tie the shows and movies but they did nothing with it. Same with the Netflix shows.
@JustACactus616 The television division is still a part of the MCU. All the Netflix shows, AoS, Runaways and Cloak & Dagger all took place in the MCU. There's no reason the two divisions couldn't have had better coordination and made it feel more like a connected universe. But as it stands it just felt like my time was wasted watching those shows
It’s not perfect but the Infinity Saga was fucking amazing. No idea how Marvel managed to pull it off; a TON of actors playing a ton of heroes spread across 22 films over 10 years, all connected to each other as one cinematic universe, and they managed to REALLY stick the landing with Infinity War and Endgame. Not to mention we got Spiderman in the MCU which was thought impossible for many years due to Sony’s ownership of the character. Again, it’s not perfect, but considering how fucking monumental the task of pulling off the MCU is, they managed to do it. The modern day MCU is a different story but man, I’m so glad I got to experience the Infinity Saga.
Great essay! I was honestly floored when I saw your sub count. Keep this up and youll x1000 that in no time. I look forward to seeing more of your stuff :)
I feel like they just keep making movies and shows on the spot without even stopping to think about anything and just producing random movies they come up with as quick as possible
I think the post credit-scenes are what made these movies feel like a "cohesive" story. One les into the other, there was an order to it, and now on top of the other issues the mcu is suffering from, they no longer have that glue making people want to see the next movie. Lets say i really like Venom, to the point where i and only wanna see venom, whats gonna make me wanna watch the next Sony movie? I don't care about Kraven, i dont care about Madame Web, i care about Venom. That end credit scene is the chance to show me why i should care, how they relate to the movie i just watched and how what i just watched would relate to the next thing. And now they basically just use them for jokes or unused plot lines. All these movies no longer feel like they are naturally leading up to something. We know Doomsday is gonna happen, not cause Doom himself was teased, but because we know when the movie "Doomsday" is gonna release. I dont wanna know what movie is gonna come out in 3 effing years, i want to have some build up and have it be a suprise. In the time between learning when Gaurdians 3 was gonna be released and its actual release, i lost interest entirely and havent even bothered to see it. Their chance to set up the next big villain was wasted in Black Widow, a movie that takes place before Endgame and Infinity War, couldve had a scene showing Doom or Kang already doing something in reaction to the Blip, or Doom trying to solve it only for it to be undone and he screams Richards! Setting up the fact he wants to save the world, is already working on that and sets up the Fantastic 4's existence with one namedrop. Or literally anything more relevant than set up for a show, (that i have no interest in) Sorry for long comment, im just upset they wont do Doom justice.
One thing they teased in The Avengers 1 secret scene that sort of but also kind of didn’t come to fruition was when they said Thanos would need to “court DEATH” (who was Thanos’ very motivation in the Infinity Gauntlet storyline from the comics) to take on his task of wiping out half of human existence… but as time marched on, Thanos’ MCU motivation became one of misunderstood noble intentions of balance, harmony, and universal survival. In the source material, Thanos did everything for some Deathussy…Thanos wasn’t some noble man that took on the burden of saving the universe the hard way… he was The Mad Titan, a villain through and through, who acted selfishly for his own benefit. The character of Death never showed up until Agatha All Along, and now Thanos is dead and gone. So what’s the point of bringing her in all this time later? I guess she could still wind up with Deadpool, now that they’re both in the MCU, and have source material history. Bottom line… in a way, the secret scene for Avengers 1 did it’s job and lead us into the Infinity Saga… but it also was never FULLY realized until 12 years later with a Disney+ spin-off series that finally brought Death herself into the franchise… now for ultimately no reason other than “look, it’s Death! Thanos/Deadpool’s girlfriend”
@@buccaneercat Yeah, I like MCU Thanos, but it’s a shame to change him so much from his original character. Bringing Death in now in the context of Agatha is just random to me.
I’m telling you, Ultron was brought online and working for Thanos. It’s where the quinjet was going when Hulk got on board. It got screwed up during travel but it was heading to Thanos. Hulk didn’t program the ship to fly into space.
Man it was such a wonderful era. Pirates of the Caribbean also had this when I was a kid and I remember every time my dad took me to the movies he would stay and ask me if there was a post credit scene. Sometimes he still does that, its kind of cute
Sucks knowing that a lot of these post credits scenes probably won’t be addressed or followed up on considering the writers essentially had to rewrite the multiverse saga halfway through after the whole Jonathan Majors situation. Can’t wait for Avengers Doomsday to come out even though there probably won’t be any real build up to it from the other movies.
If you were to actually give marvel credit, you would’ve predicted they’d bring in Dr. Doom’s singular, actual fear and weakness for a set up post credit scene A squirrel in a pink bow
You should do a follow-up.. which of these end credits are actually exciting for a comic book fan / nerd as you put it.. and which are actually like whatever.. they will have a hard time to make me care type of thing..
I still remember buying the first Howard the duck. There was such a big build up waiting for the WHAT IF #1 it was advertised in everything marvel. For me that last month of waiting for it was so exciting. All us comic lovers even was able to create a comic book class for the entirety of the 7th grade. It was all about comics and a huge part of it was for us young artists doing are art work . The teacher let us do whatever we wanted we just had to stay on topic. Thank you mister Spiegal ❤
5:39 I mean, I was happy af when I saw Wanda and pietro. My only marvel experience was the video games and the 90’s cartoons. As soon as he said “the twins” and I saw pietro I was like “omg quicksilver and scarlet witch!”.
While I don't disagree, Hercules was teased 2 years ago. Adam Warlock took one phase and 6 years to show him in action. If 2 years is too long, then I don't know what to tell you. And although they have made too many open ended storylines in their post credit scenes, it's still valid to keep some on hold, if it means it all ties in by the end. I'm letting them cook.
The Infinity Saga also had movies at the end of each phase to lead into. All of the phase 1 movies led naturally to Endgame. All of the Phase 2 movies led to Age of Ultron, and what was leftover in that was dealt with in Civil War. Phase 3 led to Infinity War and Endgame. Phase 4 and 5 don't really have that final bow to "end" the phase, except for maybe Thunderbolts*? But that's too little, too late.
The winter soldier post credit scene is not about strucker, it's about Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. Which may grab casual fans but it grabs the attention of the x-men fans
At this point the people behind the MCU are just throwing a bunch of broken idea frisbees in the dark hoping somebody sends them back with the other half attached to it 😂
I just realized you dont have over a million subs. Dude amazing, quality content here. PLEASEEE keep producing content. I would say tho try to curse less for those good ad deals in the future, youre about to blow up on youtube bro
I think a big thing is that post credits scenes used to give us news about the future. Now they confirm things that youtubers predicted or leaked monthe before. Plus before it was like "how long can they keep this up?". Now its like "slow down, please"
I find it ironic that the Sonic Movies did a better job doing post-credit scenes than what the current MCU is doing. It's simple, directly tied to the next movie, and leaves the viewer to piece together for the future.
I was so disappointed when it was announced Baron Mordo wasn’t going to be the villain of Doctor Strange 2, but a villain from a show that some people didn’t watch.
Can you do a video on the MCU's horrendous lack of musical thematic continuity? Pirates of The Caribbean is one of my favourite series's's's ever. Over the course of the "original trilogy", there are many beautiful themes and leitmotifs set up for each character and movie theme. There's ones for Jack Sparrow, freedom, Davy Jones, love and despair, Barbosa, etc etc. One of my absolute favourite things about a movie is how it does music. The thrill I get when I see Jack Sparrow do something awesome or very Jack Sparrow, and his theme plays is amazing. More examples of this are How To Train Your Dragon, The Spider-verse, Lord Of The Rings, and the big daddy of leitmotifs; Star Wars. I loooooveeeee the Heroic Theme (Luke's Theme), The Force Theme, Leia's Theme, Yoda's Theme, The Empire's Strength Theme (Darth Vader's Theme), The Emporer's Theme, the theme for Anakin's Betrayal, The Clones' Theme. Beautifully written, composed, and executed. (Almost none of this counts for the Sequel Trilogy, I mean like just because Yoda lifted an X-wing out of a bog does not mean that everytime an X-wing is force-lifted his theme plays. It's not the X-Wing Force-Lift Theme). But none of this is seen in the MCU except for five themes (that I know of), and it is a horrible shame. I absolutely adore the Driving With The Top Down from Ironman 1. It is just so Ironman to me. (although I've discovered that for some reason everyone on the internet seems to prefer Ironman 3. The worst of the themes). Imagine, in Spider-Man Homecoming, when the remote controlled suit flies in to save Peter, you hear the dun dun dun dun, dun dun dun dun, dadunnn guitar from Ironman 1, and you instantly know as a viewer that Ironman is on screen. Chills. Now for the five that do have some continuity: The obvious one is the Avengers' Theme. It plays in every Avengers movie, which makes sense, and whenever it plays, the crowd goes wild. Less obvious, the Black Panther's Theme. It plays in the Portals scene in Endgame, when T'Chala comes through his portal. Very good, sets up his presence on screen. Now for the good ones; Antman, Spider-Man, and The Guardians. Antman's daaaaaannndannnnnn dadadaaaaannnn dannnnnnn dada dun dun daddun dun dun dun dadun dun dun dadun dun dun dadunnn is chef's kiss. And it stays, in atleast some form, across all three Antman movies. Spider-Man: Homecoming's dun dun dada dun dun, dun dun dada dun dun, dun dun dada dun dunn, dunnn dun dun dun dun dunnn perfectly symbolises the Tom Holland Spider-Man, and this theme is presence, albeit in very differing forms across each movie. And now, ladies and gentlemen: The Guardians Of The Galaxy!!!! I was genuinely shocked when I entered the showing of the sequel to find the Guardians Inferno. Happily shocked. And then, in the 3rd and final aswell?! Mwah! Loooovovvvvvvvved the GOTG music; the themes annd the songs, so I loooovvvvve their continuity. That's all I have to say for now. I would pay good money to see some internet group completely recompose the MCU, using all the theme from each heros' first film, (they're across the board the best. Thor 1, Ironman 1, Antman 1, Captain America 1, etc etc) and use leitmotifs.
@@t3kscarecrow474 I find it to be a real shame they abandoned all of their themes. I’d hoped in Avengers you’d get to hear them all but they only used Cap’s for a second. With how cool and epic the Avengers theme was across the series it woulda been so cool to have the other character’s ones be reused too.

Me too!
Such a badass post credits!
So happy the MonsterVerse still going strong.
There was legitimately an ad for "Spiderman: Far From Home" that went "Spiderman: Far From Home has the most epic post credit scene ever" (or something among those lines, it was 5 years ago). Even then, I was like, "Ready? Are you that confident in your success that you're not going to tell me about your movie?"
I gotta admit, I do miss the days old days of Marvel.
That was Venom 2. Sony didn't have much faith in it so they had to tease Spider-Man appearing at the end

These are majorly successful films that managed to immerse the audience because the VFX was finished and had love and passion behind it
We've gotten so used to bad effects I find myself shocked when they're even halfway good now!

@ But Marvel Studios didn’t produce that
@JustACactus616 The television division is still a part of the MCU. All the Netflix shows, AoS, Runaways and Cloak & Dagger all took place in the MCU. There's no reason the two divisions couldn't have had better coordination and made it feel more like a connected universe. But as it stands it just felt like my time was wasted watching those shows
@ I was just saying that Marvel Studios themselves, owned completely by Disney had a lot more coordination in the Infinity Saga

Or literally anything more relevant than set up for a show, (that i have no interest in)
Sorry for long comment, im just upset they wont do Doom justice.

While I don't disagree, Hercules was teased 2 years ago. Adam Warlock took one phase and 6 years to show him in action. If 2 years is too long, then I don't know what to tell you.
