    The hospital needs more parking. I live in Luxembourg and we don't have a lot of parking soace, exept for hospitals. Because if you have a broken leg or something you ain't gonna walk.

    In Europe, well certainly the UK, stop signs are only used when vision is restricted, the best example would be a building or fence close to the road at a junction, where the vehicle has to "creep out' to get a better view, some of your tight city internal junctions would require a stop sign. If line of sight is good, hen yes, it's usually always a give way sign, and coming to a complete stop isn't necessary.

    • @Swordie100
      @Swordie100 5 років тому

      A lot of stop signs are put down willy nilly, I've seen this in the Netherlands where I'm from, but also France/Germany. Perfect line of sight, low-ish speed zones. Think this might be heavily dependable on how the local government views stop signs.

    The hospital could have an underground carpark next to it. European city centres often go in for that, in fact Public squares often have carparks several levels below them. The combination of historical facades and bland modern architecture is spot on.

    Around such an old building like that church would already be a lot of buildings, so a hospital would farther out of the city-center so they don’t drive up the cost of the construction. It would still be possible though.

    • @elvenkind6072
      @elvenkind6072 6 років тому +2

      The church looked very typical, and they usually lies at isolated places with a lot of space of nothing around them. Things like office buildings keep their respectful distance.

    • @crataegon7677
      @crataegon7677 6 років тому +4

      @@elvenkind6072 Actually, churches are most often surrounded by (old/historic) houses. This makes sense, as many cities were built around churches. However, this also means that you're not likely to find large buildings next to them.

    • @Pnaraasi94
      @Pnaraasi94 4 роки тому +1

      @@crataegon7677 Depends an where you are and whether the country is catholic or protestant. In protestant countries churches don't tend to be so central to everything. They were and, to some extent, still are important, but not to the degree as in many catholic countries. Also, in the Nordics, where Nydal draws a fair bit of inspiration from specifically, churches (even the very old ones) usually have lots of space around them. Often the church (as an institution) owns large plots of land on which their churches are built. And they rarely sell that land. Even in larger cities they usually have some space around them, often in the form of a park, sometimes a cemetery, sometimes a patch of forest. And when there are other buildings very close to them they tend to be more modern specifically because the church used to have much more space around it, which was only more recently built in due to rising cost of land in cities. This also has partly to do with the relatively low population density in Northern Europe, which tends to make our cities less dense too.

    @Strictoaster, In a previous video you said you didn't want to zone a couple of areas as parks because you didn't like the aesthetic of the park gates; according to Paradox if you zone an area as a park but don't place a park gate the area will still function as a park, it just won't have the special properties of Park Life parks (i.e. zoning on paths, leveling up, user statistics), but will still increase land value and attract cims like any other park. Also, KingLeno has an invisible park gate in the workshop so you could use that for areas that you want to be parks but don't want to gate off.

    Great episode Strict, one detail that caught my eye has been the use of paved roads in your parks. From my experience of Western Europe most parks have dirt or sometimes gravel paths, rarely poured concrete. Also in major cities like this one there are often private parks attached to independently run properties and landmarks (usually the remnants of aristocracies). Would love to see a sculpture garden attached to one of your historic themed buildings( I'd recommend you check out Musée Rodin in Paris for some great ideas), cheers.

    I think a church that big should be in the city centre but where you placed it isn't really realistic so maybe you can place it in the old town of city so the church on Churchill is the newer city church and this older looking church/cathedral is in the historical city centre:)

  • @Yaratoma

    My thoughts on the church is that it should have its entrance aligned with the avenue going from the historical building and between the school and the park. Since it would have been placed to dominate or interact with important roads or plazas.

    I know you said it's a high school, but the design of the building makes it look more like a university. Combined with the park, chapel, and hospital, and with some of the neighboring buildings being dorms or administrative centers, the whole area looks like a small campus to me, like you have a little med school with a university hospital.

  • @stevenbodley979

    Please don't stress about the old church and modern hospital being so close together. Churches used to have significant land holdings and as towns grew, it was quite normal for churches to sell off land to municipalities for development, even in modern, settler societies such as Canada and Australia. In fact, many towns and cities have an area (maybe even a suburb) called "Glebe" or "The Glebe" named after the previously ecclesiastically-held land on which it is built ("glebe" meaning church land).
    In addition, church land often contains new buildings that belong to the Church, such as retirement villages or, as in your city, hospitals run by the Church. I feel that the hospital and church pairing here is very realistic - especially with a high school next door, considering the role of the Catholic Church in particular in education.

    Great video. But you should be aware of the church orientation for reailism. The altar is supposed to be in the east end. There are currently two churches in your city that are oriented in different directions. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orientation_of_churches

    • @strictoaster
      @strictoaster  6 років тому

      Yeah, you are not the first to comment on the orientation for the church but I'm not really aiming for that level of realism, honestly, I don't even know where "East" is in-game.

      @@strictoaster I understand and I like Nydal the way it is. But I think you can find it very easily, where is West and East: in day-night mod you should just look in which direction the shadows "grow". In the afternoon they grow to the east, in the morning to the west. Or use first church as an east-west landmark; it could be simpler, other churches must be orientir that first church.
      best regards, Viktor

    I kinda like the effect the hospital has. Mixed architecture just adds more to the realism. Were you thinking about expanding the industrial area sometime soon or is the demand not there for it?

    Heya Strictoaster! Inspired by your underwater roads problem I wrote a small guide on how to easy get rid of them. The tldr is 1. select terrain tool and a height above water level, size single. 2. click on the middle of the road / the icon and the notification will be gone without altering the height.
    you can check out www.reddit.com/r/CitiesSkylines/comments/a22kxn/the_magic_of_underwater_roads_submerged_roads/ for a more in depth guide.
    Thanks for the video!

      Yeah, I saw it. Someone sent me a link to your guide but I really don't have an issue with those flooding alerts to be honest, but I'll probably end up getting the "No Problems" mod so that it doesn't annoy some viewers so much :)

    I'll say in Spanish,
    Puedes, con el "Move it" hundir la carretera o "parking" y luego cubrirla con algún edificio o el mismo hospital, Hace tiempo que no hablas en Español, lo echamos de menos
