This game was in a Round Table Pizza when I was a child. I have literally gone my whole life thinking this game was a Contra sequel, like I literally thought it was called Contra 3 or 4. MY LIFE IS A LIE.
It's Actually a Sequel to Ikari Warriors, another Data East Gem!! This is my Favorite Game of ALL TIME. I've beaten the entire game on just ONE QUARTER... Twice. (of course i spent a bucketload getting THAT good...)
Tips: - DON'T spend the ammo (flamethrower and spread shot) like a "cowboy". - DON'T waste the keys like wild. Save it to get the super weapon. - Use the "Red Grenades". They're powerful.
I remember Jack Patillo mentioned this game few years ago on the RT podcast. He said he was working on rebuilding the cabinet. He made the game sound way more fun than it actually appears to be.
I played this on the nes growing up as i kid i always thought the were originals but as i got older i realized all the games i ever played were ports from the arcades.
One of the most exciting arcade game every made. Too bad the lack of rotary stick make console ports much more difficult to control than the arcade. Love the rotary stick idea.
I definitely played this in the late 80's, with the rotating joystick to change shooting direction, and I remember those moving platforms on level 2. I DON'T remember it being this ugly though, but things look different on a CRT.
Out of every arcade game in the world, whenever someone says, "arcade game from the 80's" I think of the sound effects from this game! "Aaaatack! Uhg! Ahhh! Aaatack!
I remember the NES game, but I’ve never played this original arcade version. The NES version was solid, but a great game. I played the NES version of “Heavy Barrel” and it was a fun game.
The game Ikari Warriors wishes it could be. Getting the Heavy Barrel before a boss battle almost never happened and its usage has a time limit whether you use it or not.
I would no-death finish this game between classes at the campus game room every day, drew a crowd every time. :D Good times! This and Blasteroids were my favorites that year.
Wait this is actually Midnight Resistance in 3D top down view... A lot of resemblance the enemies death animation... Fire and three way gun and barrier are exactly what Midnight Resistance had
Ok at the end I figured out why it is by Data East that's why... Both were wonderful games... Midnight Resistance was a little better than Heavy Barrel
I remember playing this game at the local supermarket near my middle school after classes. With just one $0.25 I can beat the game. I figured it was best to complete the heavy barrel super-gun just before the final boss.
The nes port was the first game (i received two at the same time) i ever owned as a poor kid in the late 90's. The last boss is easier looking on the arcade version the NES those missiles are guided
Heavy Barrel is legendary Data East Game with a vengeance Two Gungho Soldiers are sent on a mission to destroy the enemy rebel fighters On an enemy controlled island with Spectacular Boss battles Unleash the legendary Heavy Barrel and Furious firepower This is 2Fast 2Furious and entertaining shoot em up that is Fast and Furious
I tried to play it on M.A.M.E., but without the "turnable" (I don't know how it's called) stick, it was too difficult and wasn't that funny as on the arcade.
You can try to get better sensitivity, I usually up 5 numbers in MAME and get better results, others like Lost Worlds or Midnight Resistance work better after that. It's a nice thing all up until I can make a Rotatory Joystick to use on this games
Great game. One of my all-time favorites. My god, is this playthrough hard to watch! It's painfully obvious that: 1) The person playing it has no concept of any strategy in the game. They endlessly slam the fire button in one direction until they realize they can't hit something. Then they spam whatever special weapons they have until the obstacle is gone. 2) It is being played on an emulator. That's fine, but you don't get the control in an emulator like you got from the original rotary joysticks. That shows through in spades with how this gamer rarely turned. In the original game, being able to turn 360 made all the difference in the world. 3) They are playing on "god" mode. Again, that is fine. Just tell people up front.
Oh man this was like one of my all time fav arcade games to play. I can't get enough of that game.
One of Data East's best. Absolutely love this game!
The NES version was a decent port of this original arcade game.
HEAAAAAAAAAAVY BARREL!
Great use of voice sampling there.
The NES version had a terrible voice sampling after collecting all the pieces, it shouted "Hee-Bar!"
Hahaha if we gonna speak about “voices“ arcade and nes, or Snes is obvious
This guay play Good who is he?
I played the Nes version of this game. It was pretty sweet.
Amazing the conversion got most of it onto the NES
This is the game in a nut shell "Uhh, ahh, uhh, ahh, uhh, at-tack, HEAVY BARREL!"
In the NES version where it only says “HEEBRILL”. There was no shouts like “Attack” and grunt sounds in that version.
Excellent Pax humana, and this guy really plays!, this one was harder
It,has very good voice sounds ,for that time
Played the crap out of this at the arcade growing up. This game, Gauntlet and Street Fighter all day long!
The end boss is ridiculously easy to defeat if you got the Heavy Barrel gun.
I use to tear this game up in my local arcades.
My oldest son used to play it at Tacos Too!
My older brother was badass at this game. I used to watch in amazement lol. Good times
I liked it, but I sucked at it.
I love that HEAVY BARREL sound. XD
That’s more like it. A lot better than the godawful 8-bit digitized voice in the NES version where he says “HEEBRILL”.
This game was in a Round Table Pizza when I was a child. I have literally gone my whole life thinking this game was a Contra sequel, like I literally thought it was called Contra 3 or 4. MY LIFE IS A LIE.
same here, except it was a rail shooter called Laser Ghost and I wanted to believe it was a Ghostbusters title 😅
It's Actually a Sequel to Ikari Warriors, another Data East Gem!! This is my Favorite Game of ALL TIME. I've beaten the entire game on just ONE QUARTER... Twice. (of course i spent a bucketload getting THAT good...)
Lol it was the spread gun huh
@@KENDOG419ALSO Ikari Warriors is from SNK and they later used the charaters in King of Fighters
Read up on the Enduro Racer ending so you can get your life straightened out again...
Tips:
- DON'T spend the ammo (flamethrower and spread shot) like a "cowboy".
- DON'T waste the keys like wild. Save it to get the super weapon.
- Use the "Red Grenades". They're powerful.
I haven't played this for over 30 years, but I still remember the awesome destructiveness of the red grenades

HEAAAVYYYYYYYY Barrel

This game reminds me of Ikari Warriors.Thought it was a follow up to said game, but Ikari Warriors was made by a different company(SNK).
same company who made midnight resistance
look so familiar
I definitely played this in the late 80's, with the rotating joystick to change shooting direction, and I remember those moving platforms on level 2. I DON'T remember it being this ugly though, but things look different on a CRT.

The first QuikTrip gas station in Wichita KS had this when I was a kid, next to High Speed pinball. So rad.
The game Ikari Warriors wishes it could be. Getting the Heavy Barrel before a boss battle almost never happened and its usage has a time limit whether you use it or not.
8:01 heavyyy barrel!
This is the first time I've heard that in 26 years..!
I would no-death finish this game between classes at the campus game room every day, drew a crowd every time. :D Good times! This and Blasteroids were my favorites that year.
That's some serious fire power ! This guy is just peppering these dudes.
I remeber playing this at my favorite pizza place..brings back old memories.
This was one of the first games I beat. Got to a point I could beat it on 1 quarter.
Wow! Frenetic game!
i used to play heavy barrel back in 87... never even came close to this point...
I remember playing this game at the local supermarket near my middle school after classes. With just one $0.25 I can beat the game. I figured it was best to complete the heavy barrel super-gun just before the final boss.
I could 1 credit this, no hit, no lives lost .... fav game
Oh man I remember when my local candy store got this machine. I probably put $100 bucks in it. This game was so addicting.
Play this in arcade 94-95. Nice game it was....
Just a shame this guy didn't carry along a HEAVVYYYYYYY BARREL weapon to Midnight Resistance too
Voice Of this game sound awesome
Nice video , I almost forgot about this game
Man I never beat this game, but the secret weapon out there surely not as dangerous as this guy with HEAVYYYYYYYY BARREL!
Una vez me gasté mi Domingo tratando de "darle la vuelta" a este juegazo por allá en el siglo veinte.
basically every modern game is just a remake of Heavy Barrel
The good old days when you didn't need a story just a big gun and lots of enemies 😎
Loved this game
Data east made the best games in the late 80s
Game sold to arcades as a conversion/upgrade to the popular ' Ikari Warriors '
в России это был хак с названием Chip and Dale 3(NES)
Midnight resistance part 1?
Best game ever i played 30years a go 🤩🤩🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
8:02 HEAVY BARREL!!!
12:44 HEAVY BARREL!!!
20:46 HEAVY BARREL!!!
Anybody else getting Victory Road vibes? Idk which game came first but they are VERY similar
Best arcade game ever 😊ohhh was a nice and lovely time
One of my best, games
The barrier and flame gun looks similar to ones in Midnight Resistance
This game is technically speaking Midnight but Top-Camera
is the grenade guy defending the passage (9:50 and thereabouts) impossible to take down?
This game was cool. To build the full weapon and then blew all away.
The nes port was the first game (i received two at the same time) i ever owned as a poor kid in the late 90's. The last boss is easier looking on the arcade version the NES those missiles are guided
Favorite game! Beat it with 1 quarter! HEAVY BARREL!
somersault through all the gates.
This level of perfection has Billy Mitchell written all over it...someone check the board hahaha!!! just kidding Billy dont sue me
Great game
Have this game but player won't turn different directions for some reason
15:20 where the enemy soldier is running LOL
Great! :) What controller do you use to play this?..Thanx :)
Games have come SO far from these days.
Heavy Barrel is legendary Data East Game with a vengeance
Two Gungho Soldiers are sent on a mission to destroy the enemy rebel fighters
On an enemy controlled island with Spectacular Boss battles
Unleash the legendary Heavy Barrel and Furious firepower
This is 2Fast 2Furious and entertaining shoot em up that is Fast and Furious
I'm sure all of us that have actually played this game can agree that there is no way this guy legit beat this game without getting hit once
This is another John Rambo type of video game. It's just like 'Victory Road.' The sequel to 'Ikari Warriors.' 😍
I think this game is more complete than the midnight resistance.
Good memories.
UNGH UNGH UNGH WAT WAT WAT
5:00 lol eat your heart out neo contra. I may actually buy the data east mini thanks to this video.
Lt. Worf of the Enterprise hates this game. Well, he just hates the title.
i lo ve this
You guys like this or contra better?
AH TACK AH TACK
Why are you wasting so much bullets when there is no enemy to be killed?
Cobra Assault Cannon: the game.
I always felt like this was better than Smash TV and it came before it.
Was this the first DE game with the dual-knob joysticks?
+thecowboy2 Time Soldiers and Irkari Warriors preceded this...I think Irkari Warriors was first
This is like commando on steroids
This game was the shiz-nite!
Played it recently on some ghetto handheld
The most difficult TV games
Excellent
I played this in the arcade as a child that voice that repeatedly says "YOU DIE!" was annoying even then lol
came in this 400 in 1 i got on amazon.. but its the nes port
I remember one day me and a group of 3-4 friends blew through like $10 apiece to get to the end of this.
8:03 if your like me and you just wanted to hear HEEEEAAAVVVYYY BARREL!!
WHY DO THEY NOT HAVE FEET
17:38 Howwww in the fkkkk is this ..even...wow 😂😂

What's with that voice sounds? Hearing them repeated in loop artifically is unbarrelable ( pun intended).
Ready Player One
much harder when you don't take on the total business eh?
The joys of the rotary controller eh?
