Ikari is a short shooting game that would be very nice and fun to play if it wasn't so hard. Enemies are spawned randomly and they never stop to run at you, tanks explode when they are left out of gass, homing missle decoys you can spot untill it's too late and you lose all your weapon upgrades when you die. Maybe there are people who could finish it with one coin, but I never managed that as a kid. There is one more reason for that:
You see, when Ikari Warriors was relised on arcade, it's cabinet had special controller that would allow your character to go into one direction while you could rotate and aim into any other. Well, it supossed to have that controller. At our local place, we had normal cabinet with simple controller so we couldn't rotate our hero! So we played the game by shooting just straight! No wonder that we neved managed to finsh game with one coin, but even that way we managed to came very far. My record was to pass both lakes. This video was recorded using MAME where is still difficult, but possible to rotate character. -

As a Vietnam veteran, I can attest this is likely the most realistic game every to be produced.

Back in 1986 this game could be considered battlefield simulation. People today don't understand how many ideas this game introduced. Direction of fire independent of movement, limited ammunition and fuel, boarding vehicles, lethal fragmentation, different types of grenades and ammunition, all kinds of crazy shit. And it's still playable today. Simply amazing.
A pretty popular game for those of us old enough to remember it in the arcade back in 1986 . A unique 'twist' joystick that enabled you to move in one direction and fire in another.
But not very original...that would be Tatio's 'Frontline' circa 1983.
Congratulations on beating that SNK oldie. Never knew that game would have a bizarre ending.

At the end of the stage, Ralf does a Galactica phantom to the end boss but they thought it wasn't good enough.
So they cut it.

Wow to this day I still have not finished it. I remember when my parents first bought me the game. I just purchased it yesterday for the Nintendo switch.
The controller had an additional 8 way directional spinner on it to shoot in all directions. A majority of arcade games back then had horrible endings (or lack of one). It was more about the experience rather then the story. Contra has the worst ending for arcade games.

Ralph also appeared in a game called Tnk 3 he is one of the oldest Snk characters.
I know this is no the NES versión, but the AVGN episode about this game makes me think it is a bad game, but it actually looks like a fun game.
My town is very small place and owner of that cabinets probably didn't give a sh**. To get special cabinet it would probably be too big investment for him. And we as a kids thought that game was mented to play like that. Even when I got MAME I played it like that, until stumbled on reviews of this game. You can imagine my surprise.
Loved this one on the C64 - a bit of Rambo with a hair of Indiana Jones... the glowing eyes on the stone machinery is a nice touch.
SNK's answer to Taito's Front Line.
The best version is the original arcade title, but the NES port is pretty good too. Probably the best thing is the co-op game play. There is also a memorable stage where all the enemies look like Player 1 and 2.
i used to love this arcade game, the nes port was alright but like most nes arcade ports the graphics were a serious downgrade.
The person who I also didn't know very well was the narrator, announcer Lee Jordan. I didn't know him too well back then in 1985.

This arcade version is 100000000 times better than the crappy NES port. AVGN should try this one out I bet he would sing a much happier tune

Plot: The colonel was Flying the plane like a toy threw the plane then General Corpse sayed CAPTURE THE COLONEL, Shortly after The colonel tripped on tripwire and was captured by General Corpse Corps and yelled for help, Ralph and Clark used the plane to get after them but suddenly the engines from the unfunctioning plane exploded and then they landed in General Corpse's land Then 0:15 - 18:34

A por lo visto es más difícil la versión del nes, porque al final del tercer nivel (que sería el equivalente del final deldel arcade) los enemigos te esperan con granadas máximas y balas que son rápidas, llegan lejos y traspasan Paredes

I dropped coins in this arcade cabinet for hours love it is only beat this game once though took 21coins to get from beginning to end took my whole allowance to beat it once but I beat it once
Weirdest final boss ever!
Apparently the installation is for a neo-Nazi militia, and the boss is Hitler’s exhumed body, linked up to the computer systems. They couldn’t revitalize the body, but his psyche was able to control many of the systems (he probably used the body just as a voicepiece). Maybe Kawasaki/Cook was captured to provide a more vital body for him?
I suspect that the NES version’s final boss, a futuristic computer installation, was where Hitler’s psyche was ACTUALLY bound. Either version, though, Hitler’s fully slain anew at the end.
Victory Road is before this.. Guerilla is after then Ikari Warrior 3. IW3 took a over the top P.O.W. Approach.

Do anybody here remember the final area having a Nazi flag as the carpet instead of just a plain red carpet? And also the tanks should have a Nazi swastika on the top of them instead of being unmarked.

The Japenese version absolutely did specify that they were Nazis. That's why their leader is a rotting corpse, when the players finally reach him.

Aizaku Galcia yeah the arcade version was epic! As a kid I had the Amiga 500 version which was a much more faithful port of the arcade game :) but a part of me actually likes the nes poor port also :D the AVGN has made me love a lot of shitty games haha, I've developed a taste for them... Wish there was a Nes Shitty Mini version of the classic mini haha

I know two games similar to Ikari Warriors, both made by SNK and using the rotary joystick: Guerrilla War (aka Guevara) and Time Soldiers. Also, there is another SNK game called TNK III which is very reminiscent of the tank sequences seen in Ikari Warriors. Hope I've been helpful.
