One of my favorite games in the arcade as a kid ! I used to be able to beat this on 1 quarter ! Still love this game ! But I wish I could play it with a rotary joystick 🕹 😕
No way you've got good with just one quarter. You gotta spent at least $50-$100 total over the course a year or two before you got to be very good with just one quarter and accomplished the mission. We all did win with just one quarter with same move every time.😂
I played the crap out of this when I was in elementary school. I always saved the 2nd Heavy Barrel gun for the final battle though. It made it super easy
This was so gratifying to watch. I used to beat this game after school every day on 1 life (assuming I didn't get the red grenade barrage on the platform then it would take 2) . This is the only game I've ever actively sought in arcades. I could never find it. Thanks for the awesome memories!
I loved this game as a kid! It was the very first arcade game I actually was able to beat and eventually got to the point where I could beat it on one quarter. It was figuring out how to time it so I got the last piece immediately before the last boss that was the biggest help.
This was one of the first games I ever solved with one quarter. It was possible to get the complete Heavy Barrel right before the end and barely have enough time to ice the end boss almost instantly. They upgraded the game IIRC, so he could take a few hits from it and still keep coming. Man, thanks a lot for the memories! :D
Total fun to play in the mall arcade back in the day. The building-your-ultra-weapon-piece-by-piece mechanic was awesome. Great sound design too. “ *One.* “
I had this game down to a science. I had almost all the boxes memorized and could finish it on one quarter but not 1 guy (I’d usually die at least once). The play on this video while achieving the impressive feat of finishing with one life left way too many survivors. I usually tried to wipe out as much of the resistance possible and end the game while wielding the Heavy Barrel gun. Thanks for the flashback.
Another strong Arcade original classic from Data East! Certainly another great top-down run and gun that is most certainly a quarter cruncher/token taker with how unbelievable challenging and unfair this game gets as you progress! Never the less, this is still an amazing title that showed a lot of the simple originality and fun games that developers such as Data East were pumping out at throughout the 80s and 90s!
"Heavy Barrel" Longplay (Arcade) This is one of my all time favorite games to play from the 1980's. This game is soo awesome. I go to a place called "The Arcade" & this game is there & I always play It. It's soo much fun to. I still have yet to beat this game. I'm sure I can....SSSSSS.
I remember being on a roll one day. Everyone at the store was gathered around me as I kicked butt. Then my stepfather came in and pulled me by the ear in the middle of the game because he said I wasted a quarter. I used to go berserk when I got that heavy barrel gun 😂
Congrats on an amazing playthrough. The PSN store has had this game as "just announced" for at least several months now. Can't wait! Ah! Uh! Ah! Uh! At-tack! One Two Three Four Five Six HEAVYYY BARREL! Ah! Uh! Ah! Uh!
.....ADMIT IT...we all probably poured around $100 dollars quarters to play before we all got really good with just one quarter then we all finished the game with an exact move every time. 😂
im a game dev my friend recommended a feature from this, the "heavy barrel" feature where the bullets go huge (sounds like the dude is shouting "heavy bawwell"). I either mis-remembered or he did so I implemented "heavy bullets" instead.. well its still a reference in a weird way :))) looks great.
It had great graphics for the time. I pumped massive amount of quarters into this one!
Me too bro
Me three
thats what she said.
@OptimusPrimeribs he's here all week folks!
Soundtrack is crazy awesome.

Thunderstick Studio has the GRS (Glen’s Retro Show) Super Stick that’s available for pre-order. Check it out.
Only game I could finish on a single quarter. Would bet people in the arcade I could do it. Made up my initial expenses and then some XD
Updated version of Ikari Warriors.
According to a former SNK dev of Ikari Warriors, Data East flat out copied Ikari source code
I played the crap out of this when I was in elementary school. I always saved the 2nd Heavy Barrel gun for the final battle though. It made it super easy
Facts!

Picks up new gun. Gun speaks, yells, "ATTACK!"
I was never able to memorize which boxes had the gun pieces vs basic weapons.

Awesome. I don't think I ever saw it as far as the two red copters.

Looks like Shock Troopers.
I remember when I was a teenager. My first job was a part-time job. This game took a whole check.
For me to complete it😅
Have you barrel my favorite game was on the Nintendo entertainment next to Contra super c operation contra and Contra 3 the Alien

So true.. but totally worth it.
Very much like Ikari Warriors
I put many quarts in this arcade years back
I played this in the early 90's on an arcade cabinet. Fun times. I didn't realize it was made in 87.
Mad skillz.
That laugh at the end boss sounds like Julia Childs 😳
I only got to play this on nes as a kid. This version is sick! I wish coin op would make a come back.
Agreed! Been to an arcade recently? They’re full of prize games these days.
i finished this game with one life... hard to play with a simple keyboard when you need a special joystick for turn characters at 360°
Oh 90's, please come back
Just so you know this game is in the 80s I played it in 89

Nice, I forgot about this one, thanks
My brother and I both had $5 in quarters and got to the end, 1988
Beat the game for one life?! Well done!
Love playing this on the nes
This game is lame now, but it was one of my favorites back in the day! This and P.O.W.
7:32 is the best part!
Cobra Gun from Robocop, the game!
This is Rambo on LSD.
I was shaking the first time I got Heavy Barrel gun
I beat it in the bowling alley in Paso Robles my first time on LSD.
this one not bad and original is goat ♥
Obvious that you don't have the round knob. Still, you are playing great!
1. Uhh
2. Blaat
3. ATTACK
4. HEAVY BARREL
5. (Repeat)
How did you emulate rotary joystick to play this one?
Is it true you can fall off the elevator in the arcade version?
The final villain died or not? The laughing at ending is scaring😱
LAH UHH UHH UHH
UH-TACK!!!
LAH UHH UHH UHH
Uhh-TACK!!!!
Can tell this is on MAME because you're not spinning the joystick
My only original on famicom. It cost me all youth savings and it didnt work on our console at home , becouse it was china pirated famicom
How do I find this
The cabinet arcade versions are non existent. I've been searching for it for 35 years
@@justinoff1 wow how sad for me
At my Best I could finish this game with one quarter
Can't hold a candle to Ikari Warriors
No way. 👎
Ikari warriors didn't have, "Uh, wak, uh, wak!"
Ikari Warriors also didn't have "heaveeeeeey barrel!"
They are both amazing classic games.
