Developed and published by Data East in 1987
A cross between Ikari Warriors and Midnight Resistance, this top-down shooter has some interesting ideas, but isn't as compelling as the developer's other titles.
Additional weapons and power-ups can be obtained by opening weapon caches, although you will need to collect keys in order to do this. Keys are consumed when used, so you need to make your choices wisely.
The "Heavy Barrel" is a form of uber-weapon, which needs to be assembled from a number of constituent parts before use. Once complete, you're rewarded with A few seconds of ultimate firepower, at least until the weapon runs out of juice and you have to create another.

One of my favorite games in the arcade as a kid ! I used to be able to beat this on 1 quarter ! Still love this game ! But I wish I could play it with a rotary joystick 🕹 😕

No way you've got good with just one quarter. You gotta spent at least $50-$100 total over the course a year or two before you got to be very good with just one quarter and accomplished the mission. We all did win with just one quarter with same move every time.😂

I played the crap out of this when I was in elementary school. I always saved the 2nd Heavy Barrel gun for the final battle though. It made it super easy

I was never able to memorize which boxes had the gun pieces vs basic weapons.
This was so gratifying to watch. I used to beat this game after school every day on 1 life (assuming I didn't get the red grenade barrage on the platform then it would take 2) . This is the only game I've ever actively sought in arcades. I could never find it. Thanks for the awesome memories!

back in summer of 87-88 me and my buddy wore this game out on .50-.75¢ at the arcade. Good times
I loved this game as a kid! It was the very first arcade game I actually was able to beat and eventually got to the point where I could beat it on one quarter. It was figuring out how to time it so I got the last piece immediately before the last boss that was the biggest help.
Total fun to play in the mall arcade back in the day. The building-your-ultra-weapon-piece-by-piece mechanic was awesome.

This was one of the first games I ever solved with one quarter. It was possible to get the complete Heavy Barrel right before the end and barely have enough time to ice the end boss almost instantly. They upgraded the game IIRC, so he could take a few hits from it and still keep coming.

Another strong Arcade original classic from Data East! Certainly another great top-down run and gun that is most certainly a quarter cruncher/token taker with how unbelievable challenging and unfair this game gets as you progress! Never the less, this is still an amazing title that showed a lot of the simple originality and fun games that developers such as Data East were pumping out at throughout the 80s and 90s!
I watched other playing this game at a year of 3-5and I can humm all the musics.

I had this game down to a science. I had almost all the boxes memorized and could finish it on one quarter but not 1 guy (I’d usually die at least once). The play on this video while achieving the impressive feat of finishing with one life left way too many survivors. I usually tried to wipe out as much of the resistance possible and end the game while wielding the Heavy Barrel gun. Thanks for the flashback.

"Heavy Barrel" Longplay (Arcade) This is one of my all time favorite games to play from the 1980's. This game is soo awesome. I go to a place called "The Arcade" & this game is there & I always play It. It's soo much fun to. I still have yet to beat this game. I'm sure I can....SSSSSS.

Nostalgic, I used to play it for hours
I remember being on a roll one day. Everyone at the store was gathered around me as I kicked butt. Then my stepfather came in and pulled me by the ear in the middle of the game because he said I wasted a quarter. I used to go berserk when I got that heavy barrel gun 😂

im a game dev my friend recommended a feature from this, the "heavy barrel" feature where the bullets go huge (sounds like the dude is shouting "heavy bawwell"). I either mis-remembered or he did so I implemented "heavy bullets" instead.. well its still a reference in a weird way :))) looks great.
I played this in the early 90's on an arcade cabinet. Fun times. I didn't realize it was made in 87.
.....ADMIT IT...we all probably poured around $100 dollars quarters to play before we all got really good with just one quarter then we all finished the game with an exact move every time. 😂

i finished this game with one life... hard to play with a simple keyboard when you need a special joystick for turn characters at 360°
