  • Join me as I go to the supermarket on Norman, my Royal Enfield Himalayan 411.
This was the only ride I managed to fit in this week, so I decided to vlog it for you.
Fear not, to raise the excitement within this video to almost perceptible levels, I do discuss my thinking regarding the next bikes I might purchase towards the end of it.
But don't skip to that because you will miss video of me buying rice and bread, which would of course be a great pity, particularly considering my not inconsiderable investment in the development of my patented "shopping trolley dolly". I know. We continue to spoil you. You must be worth it.
Many thanks once again to Wee Mark for sponsoring Ruby's "sossidges" and my "wee dram" in this episode. Mark has his own UA-cam channel featuring his Meteor 350 and Honda Rebel 500 in bonny Scotland and you can find it here :

A new feature, Super Thanks, has been activated on my channel and you can now also use that feature ( just look for the icon with the $ sign on it in every video ) to donate directly through this UA-cam channel. UA-cam will then add your kind donation to my monthly ad revenue automatically.

Bought the Zed (Nikita) brand new, outright. Sold it four years later losing a shed load of dosh. Bought Gwenen the 650 Strom second hand but from a dealer. Dealers charge top dollar so if I sold her I would lose another shed load. I don’t plan on selling her anyway, she’s brilliant. But bikes that I’ve bought second hand privately have always given me a good return, in some cases earning me a profit.
Lovely shopping trip. Thank goodness Ruby got her sossidges 🙂

      Hi Jeff.
Yes, buying second hand from a dealer is more convenient and more secure but they always charge you 500-1000 more for the privilege !
I saw what my Classic 350 was up for after I traded it in. It was very cheeky indeed, considering what they gave me for it !
I imagine that things like the Nomad and the Pan probably didn't cost you much ( apart from running costs ) in the time that you had them.
That is sort of where I see myself going. The bike either has to be something stupid ( like Norma ! 😝❤ ) or something I always wanted when they were new but could never afford.
No shortage of bikes on that list, so I am very excited to see what a typical Eco Rides new bike budget will get me on the second hand market !
Cheers Jeff. Love to you both !

Well, that was a cliffhanger Gary,a trip to the super market is just what i needed on this dull Tuesday! 🤣🤣Good to hear that the rat problem is solved, no more mucky footprints across the bikes. By midwinter no self respecting rat would want to dirty their feet on my bike 😁 Your secondhand bike idea sounds interesting, sometimes the bike that you've hankered after for years can turn out to be deeply disappointing though..... A couple of years ago i scratched that 'itch' and bought an early Africa Twin.... What an awful ungainly top heavy pig!! I hate it with a vengeance and there it is, taking up space in the back of my garage, Hateful thing!! (Although it DOES look nice, much prettier than my ol' Beemer) Form over function i suppose.... I reckon that given the roads in your area you need a Supermoto..... Be a hooligan for a year or so! 😛

      Good evening young Kenneth !
Yes, I am sure that you enjoyed grocery shopping with me, who wouldn't ? 😂
I thought there was going to be a bit of a scene at the supermarket checkout, some little kid shouted "Mummy, that man has a camera !" ( on his trolley ). Fortunately I wasn't recording at the time and his mum didn't seem that bothered. But for a brief moment there I did see a lifetime store ban flash before my eyes 😝
I am indeed delighted to no longer have rodents residing in my garage and I look forward to having the time to get the bikes down and give them one final proper clean before the autumn. You made me laugh with the rats getting dirty feet off of your GS !!!! It's funny because it's probably true !
Oh the original Africa Twin. I love that bike. It's a bike that's loved and fondly remembered by many. You'd probably like it more but the GS has probably spoiled you Ken. After the GS, of course the Africa Twin is going to feel tall and top heavy. Gorgeous 90s styling though. Love them but almost certainly too tall for me to get on with !
A supermoto intrigues me, because I've never had one. But again, being based on motocross bikes, they tend to have quite high seats. I might struggle to find one that suits a 30" inside leg (?). If there is one thing I hate, it's being on a bike that is too tall for me. I am 500% more likely to drop the bike, whenever that's the case !
I haven't started making my wish list yet, but I am pretty sure that it is going to be very long.
Knowing my luck, the first second hand bike I get in will be absolutely brilliant and I will have YET ANOTHER keeper on my hands !!! I suppose I'll have to cross that bridge when I come to it !
Night Ken, love to the pups,

      Congrats Stefan !!!
I will forgive you for getting a Scram 411 since the Himalayan 411 is no longer available, Stefan 😝
It's funny really, because when it was first announced, it did seem a bit pointless. But it is actually a versatile bike. You can keep it as an urban scrambler and maybe do some light off-road as it comes from the factory, or you can gradually morph it into more of a Himalayan. Like I said at the beginning, it probably makes more sense now than when it was being sold alongside the 411 Himalayan. It will be a nice all round bike and if you start doing more off-road riding, you can easily start adding Himalayan bits and pieces to make it a bit more of a hardcore off-roader.
I can see the appeal Stefan, I really can. I love Norman and I think that I would also love a stripped back Norman, which is basically what the Scram is ( and with different wheel sizes )👍🏻

@@economicalrides I loved riding off-road, Garry, but unfortunately my bad back and neck can't sustain the bashing and i'm a bit naughty boy on off-road stuffs. So it's not even a possibility but light gravel roads are not a problem. Just the appeal of the bike with 19" front and the suspention from the Himmy is making the bike very good on my local cobble stone streets that are not been fixed since the war 😂😂 .. If I get the bike, planning to get central stand from Himmy. The bike comes without one. And handguards enduro style.. Actually I have a pair from a Transalp lurking in the basement. Luggage is optional.. Soft, panniers.. Don't know, we shall see.

@@Stefan_trekkie Yes. Good point. I remember pointing out to the dealer, when he got his first Scram in "but it doesn't have a centre stand like the Himalayan ! Will the Himalayan one fit ?".
I looked at the frame and saw the mounting points were still there on the Scram and told him "Yes, it must be available as an option". He then got on the computer and had a look and confirmed that the centre stand was an option for the Scram too.
I would really struggle with a bike which had no centre stand. For me it's almost obligatory that a bike should have one. Using paddock stands with the Street Triple R was terrifying ( so often nearly dropped it 😱 ) and also a right faff !

Still looking forward to seeing what's out there for that price though, when the time comes ! I have quite a few brands that I have yet to try and quite a few bikes that I lusted after back in the day !

My neighbor has a Himalayan and I was looking up some content. UA-cam brought me back to your channel.
I thought, Yeah, why haven't I seen your videos? all of my bells and subscription were un checked.
I've heard of that happening but I think this is the first time I've noticed it happening.
I'm glad to see you and Ruby are doing well. And have solved a rat issue it seems.
Three bikes is the perfect scenario. Road, ADV, dirt. 😃

Hi Pinkie ! I was wondering where you'd disappeared to !
Presumably UA-cam got fed up with paying me millions every month and decided to do something about it 😂
I have heard of it happening too, to other channels, hence why I don't ever use notifications myself. I just constantly scroll through my subscriptions list, looking for the blue dots !
Anyway, glad you found your way back. I've basically kept going, doing one video every week as usual, feeding Ruby a sossidge at the end of every video, so you have some catching up to do, if you'd like. There's probably some good stuff in there somewhere and the rats do get multiple mentions and even rides on my motorbikes 😂
Nice to have you back Pinkie. Please stick around !

      @economicalrides  2 місяці тому +1

@@pinkiewerewolf No, the rats were definitely uninvited and made a right mess of my clean bikes by walking all over them with their muddy paws. Fortunately only light tooth marks spotted on various plastics, no serious damage done to either bike. Very lucky. In the end we caught around 10 rats. I used Mars bar ( a recommendation from a channel viewer and very effective ) and my neighbour used cheese ( I had limited success with English cheddar. Spanish rats clearly prefer Spanish cheeses ! ).
I hope they are gone for good now because it was a worry that they might chew through something important. Fortunately my neighbour had enough food for them stored in his garage, probably the only reason why they didn't start eating through my tubes and cables - they were never hungry !!!!
Enjoy some of the vids you missed mate and it's great to have you back ! 👍🏻

Thanks Pete. I am excited by the prospect and am keen to try some different bikes. Just the buying and selling that doesn't appeal very much but I think that once you get the hang of it, it's probably not too much grief.
Certainly want to avoid the hit of swapping out a fairly new bike every year or two, for reasons you will be familiar with 😉

@@CornishMotorcycleDiaries Well, I'll need my passport updated first, one of the many jobs that is currently ongoing. And then I'll need a carer for Ruby. And then I'll need to take about 10 days off work. And that final point is probably going to prove insurmountable ! As a self employed person with very needy customers I just can't have more than the odd day off without them noticing. Bloody annoying that is.
I am hoping to do a weekend trip away on the bike later this year but then I say that every year and I never find the time to do it. Thinking of moving my usual October work trip to Germany to the spring, which would free up the month of October and might just enable me to finally do a little road trip.
I'd love to just ride a motorbike for two or three days. My idea of heaven, that would be ! We'll see 🤞
Some sort of humungous behemoth of a bike might well be on the cards Andy. Either a tourer or a cruiser. I don't currently need a long distance tourer but since I am only experimenting year on year, it doesn't really matter if I end up owning one for a while.
That's what appeals to me about this plan. If the bike is only for a year and only for a laugh, it doesn't have to justify itself any more than that !

Currently got my beloved Meteor 350 🟡 and a CRF250... Hankering after a third... Second hand Himmy 411 most appealing to be honest. Now the new 450 landed some stunning bargains to he had... Good video , enoyed the ride as always 👍. What you make of this

      @economicalrides  2 місяці тому

      Hi Plough,
I can wholeheartedly recommend the Himmy 411. As you say, right now, with people upgrading and dealers having NOS to shift, there are some real 411 bargains to be had.
You can't go wrong with the 411. If you fit the performance cam and go up one tooth on the front sprocket, the 411 will even do the touring thing more than adequately.
It's definitely a mod that I am thinking of for once mine is out of warranty !
But even in standard trim, if you are happy doing 100 kph / 60 mph on the motorway, the Himmy 411 will do that all day. It's just a fantastic all-rounder and I need to do a follow up review after 12 months with mine because, honestly, it has surpassed my expectations by a good margin !
Yes, the throttle body mod for the Meteor is interesting, although a bit of a major faff for 10 mph more 😂 For me it isn't worthwhile but it's good to know that, for those who are desperate for a bit more high speed headroom, there is at least some sort of solution.
It would be a lot easier if RE would just offer an ECU flash for non-asian markets which simply disabled the software limiter though !
As for me. Well, the sodding Guerilla is tempting me, even though, as you all know, I do have my doubts about that engine !!!
Cheers bud and thanks for watching and commenting,
