    I really appreciate your mechanic taking the time to walk you through the maintenance requirements while on video.
    Most shops won't allow non employees into the service area and / or aren't articulate enough to make the video informative and straightforward.
    I'm currently bikeless, but top of list is the 452 (maybe also the 650) Himalayan.

    I met some people on the RE stand at the ABF who run the 450's. They had already converted one to tubeless but didn't change the rims. They use 3M marine tape and do three runs around the centre part of the rim. Apparently works a treat.

      Sound good but it doesn’t sound like a permanent solution, but I’m not to disagree with the procedure and I’m no expert so I would need to have a better understanding of it. 👍

      @jeremymurfitt In India the first week of October 24 they launched cross tubeless spoke wheels and with an offer for existing customers if they want cross tubeless spoke wheels they can get it for just 11.5k INR ( roughly 135 USD).

    Thanks for sharing Simon, it's videos like this that will sell new bikes and entice people into motorcycle riding as newcomers (or upgrading from scooters/smaller machines). And it will entice the bigger bike owners to consider an affordable machine to fulfill their riding pleasures. It definitely scores well on the 'tinkerability' scale :)
    Cheers from the south west coast of the island of Australia.

    I work on all my own vehicles, I know my way around a tool box but pros like this guy make it look easy. Great video. The 450 is one of the bikes I'm considering for my first bike. The CRF Rally is another but I think it's a bit too under powered for NZ mountain highways, another is the Triumph Scrambler but I worry it's not quite tough enough for the off road tracks I want to ride. (As a new rider I'm limited to sub 650cc for 2 years in NZ).

    • @thatbikersimon
      @thatbikersimon  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks, the new 450 is a good all round capable bike. I rode it around the south of India on a combination of roads and it preformed fantastically in all aspects. Good luck with your quest.

      I've heard there are restrictions in places. Where I live I've never had a restriction on what size motorcycle I can buy.
      I've had small ones, medium sized ones and 2 Honda Goldwings. Believe me, you're not missing anything just because you can't ride a bigger bike. A bigger bike is costlier to maintain, more expensive for flat tires or buying new tires. Bigger just means more money out of your pocket and more headache. In fact, I'm wanting to downsize to the 450 to get back to having more fun. I cant wait till I sell my Honda. Way to heavy.

    Tubes versus Tubeless.. I sort of settled that debate myself.
    I change all my tires myself with spoons and a small wheel stand. This summer on a 3100 mile ride from Georgia to the Upper Peninsula in Michigan I had two flats on the way back home on my T700.
    The first one was on the rear tire about 300 miles from home and I changed the tube. I always carry a spare front and rear tube. The biggest issue was cleaning up the sealant/balancer I always use after balancing the tire since the tube had ruptured and spread that stuff everywhere. Never did figure out what happened but I suspect I should have checked my tire pressure in the morning when I left the hotel. Always check the pressure when starting the day now.
    Second one was the rear tire again about 3 miles from home due to a furniture fastener I picked up on the road. It was dark out and the tire was still on the bead so I just rode home slowly and changed it in the morning with the tire since it was pretty much done.
    Sure it is more work to change a tube but I have learned how to do it pretty quickly and carry the tools I need.
    A few of my friends ride bikes with tubeless tires and there has been several occasions when I needed to use one of my tubes one there bikes since the flat could not be fixed with a plug. The lesson learned there was even if you have tubeless still carry the tools and tubes if you don’t want to be stuck for awhile

    • @thatbikersimon
      @thatbikersimon  6 місяців тому

      That’s great to hear how you’ve managed your tyres and I guess everone will have there personal preference. I set off in a couple of weeks with 17 other people to conquer the Himalayan mountains in the Himalayas, were all running tubed tyres. So il be bringing a series of videos to the channel which might help people understand more about the difference in tuned or tubeless.
      Thanks for your input and stay tuned for more 👍🏍️💨💨💨💨💨

      @@thatbikersimon btw I am interested in how your 450 performs. They should be in the States soon and I am going to take one out on a demo ride.
      Overall the bike specs look interesting except for the weight - still trying to figure out where they put the weight on that bike.

    • @thatbikersimon
      @thatbikersimon  6 місяців тому +2

      @@Jarvis60the weight comes from the build quality, everything is robust and upgraded to withstand a drop and believe me I’ve already tested it recently 🫣 it’s a strong bike and I’d sooner have that over something that’s lighter. The only issue is the side stand for me which can be corrected.

    Beware those K60's on cold wet roads. I had a set on my XT600 and the front went under me on a white line on a damp March day. The reason they last a long time is that the rubber is a very hard compound - low grip!

    @ChawkiChahed 6 місяців тому +2

    Hi Simon. Fantastic video. I was planning to buy more aggressive off road tires (80-20), Mitas ENDURO TRAIL XT+ DAKAR Tubeless tires. Do you think the front tire will be OK with that mud protector?
    Second thing: I plan to do a lot of sand, dunes in Tunisia my country, the reason why I am considering 80-20 tires. But if your 50-50 can make it in sand, I will go with them. Have you had an opportunity to test them in sand, deep sand?
    Thanks much

    • @thatbikersimon
      @thatbikersimon  6 місяців тому +1

      Hi buddy, I’ve not tested these tyres in sand, and to be honest there’s no sand where I am to test them. If you was thinking more of a full on rally tyre then I would probably consider cutting the top of the mud guard off and just leave the fork protectors. The 50/50 tyres I’ve been using seem to work fine for road and mud so far.

      Like a lot of integrated systems they don’t work that good, very basic. There’s better apps on my phone. If they had apple play it would be a game changer

    Some people put baby powder in the tyre to let the tube flex inside the tyre

      True.
      Its like an lubrication. Talkumpowder does the same!

      Shouldn’t use talc / baby powder as the perfume in it will react with the silicone rubber, it’s much better to use French chalk.

    Those new tires actually have LESS tread. They have larger voids. A slick tire has the most tread.

    Hy Mate
    Did they check the "Lenkkopflager" tithening?
    A well known Senior Driver and Top Mechanik in Germany has found out it on his new Himi.
    The "Lenkkopflager" is fastend a bit to tight. Old RE Problem.
    This guy fucks at warranty. His services r much better than RE Company works. An old German Ingeneer.

      Hi Matey, no they didn’t check that but that’s worth knowing. I check it myself at some point just to take a look 👍

      You’ll only hear the bad stuff, I’ve just spent 2 weeks with 20 450s on a extreme motorcycle tour and not one issue and this was the 3rd run for all the bikes. 10,000km

    Why isn't India producing such amazing bikes?? 🤦 This is dis-heartening to see these bikes are getting developed by European engineers.
