Nicely done! Your picked the perfect open area for that 1st manual flight. Off to a great start! 👍👍
Thank you.
I'm going the same way. Training in Liftoff, right now some 7 hours of simulator training. First hours were pure WTF, around 5 hours I somehow got used to how the drone operates, it seemed to happen like a switch clicking, one moment to another the brain adapted to the flight mechanics. Now, after around 7 hours I changed the settings in the Avata to get Manual option. Liftoff is a great tool to learn acro.
You shouldn't give up at the beginning. For a long time it feels almost impossible to ever be able to control the drone like this. Just keep practicing. After a few hours it suddenly works. Then you can continue to sharpen your skills in the simulator, e.g. by following the racing cars and "filming" them while they are drifting.
Then things start getting interesting. 🙂
I consider the Avata as an entrance ticket into Acro FPV. Somehow the driving school. I consider upgrading to a race quad when I feel ready to do so.
Where are you guys getting the simulator training from if you don’t mind me asking? I just got a Mini 4 Pro and can’t seem to find any kind of simulator myself. TIA.
@@midinut Ir's a simulator called Liftoff, but it is for FPV flying only, not for the usual camera drones like the Mini series. For the DJI Avata in manual mode or the DJI FPV the simulator can be very useful. But not for any other DJI drone.
Thanks for this video! This is exactly what I wanted to see - a first flight of someone new to FPV because that’s the position I’d be in if I got the Avata 👌🏼
And very impressive flying! Idk if I’d have the courage to go under the trees like that on a first flight, but it gives me hope that it’s possible! 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Im getting rdy to do Manual mode/acro mode on my Avata soon after a lot of flying in the simulator in Acro and also just flying it outside in regular mode going thru obstacles and stuff just to get used to the stick controls on a dji fpv & avata plus a few 5" CF Betaflight Drones in Level/Air mode to practice the throttle control, bc on a 6S fpv drone even on 4S, its unbelievable how fast they are and can gain height, esp the first time its amazing lol..
Brilliant effort.. Well done... Personally i'm perfectly happy flying this in normal or Sport mode and just cruise around... I'm 74yrs old and don't feel the need to take this to the next step of manual mode and probably destroy it...
The only negative I've found with the Avata is the amount of noise it makes.. Apparently Avata 2 is quieter but not so strong.
Enjoyed your video.. Respect.
Awesome first manual-mode flight! After flying the Avata for a year, I am now considering the manual controller. Thanks for the insight!
Practice in a simulator with low rates first.
You did awesome for your first flight. I had all kinds of terror reflexes hitting gaps and under trees.
Lol...thanks
Under the trees for the first time had to feel rad!🤘🏼🤘🏼
I just got my Avata a few days ago and have had a blast with the Motion Controller. I have the FPV controller as well, and tried out the DJI simulator, and I had no idea what I was doing. This morning I looked at Liftoff, as I need some serious practice before I push the M button. Even with the Motion Controller, I found the DJI simulator to be sluggish compared to the real drone. Nice work!
That's amazing for being on the sticks for the first time! I've spent about 3 weeks in the simulator and just under 2 week on the field and I'm nowhere near that smooth. I think it's mostly my anxiety about crashing even though I purchased DJI CARE like with my other DJI products. I also wish I had access to a large open field like that. The largest I've found so far has been baseball field and when you're learning how to turn you run out of room quick on a baseball field. The funniest thing is I've been having problems flying at a slow speed. I've changed the camera angle and I helps a little. I think I have to play with the rates a bit and get better at throttle control. I built a 6s 5 inch quad but I won't fly it until I'm good with the Avata a my tinyhawk 2 FS.
You had me as a subscriber the moment you said, “pray or me.” You got this brother! Now to watch the rest of the video lol.
I just got an an avata and I’m looking at videos before flying it for the first time, this was really cool to see and now I know more abt manual mode!
I love my Avata but the DJI FPV and the Avata are two very different drones. Try tree exploring once you get use to it at slower speed this is where this drone shines. If acro with flips and rolls this isn't the drone but the DJI FPV is the drone for that. I have both along with the Mavic 3, Mini 3 Pro and many others🤓. Good video brother you've come along ways from that Hubson drone
I thought you did great! I just bought one, I liked when the info was displayed. It gave me a chance to see what was going on and relate to the info on screen.
I just got my controller2 and may do my first manual flight this weekend. Your location is ideal. The one near me has no trees, just an empty half acre or so. Happy landings!
Nice flying. This looks like fun. I've been training myself on a cheap 20$ drone from eBay that is completely manual mode only (4 mins flight time) with a view to getting an FPV drone. I've been spoiled using DJI drones, and realise I can't actually fly a drone without stabilisation very well.
DJI make great drones, but needing separate batteries for each one is such a crock.
Great video. Love your editing skills on the intro
Thanks
That keyframing to zoom out of your own video was sweet!
I am still waiting for my fpv controller so I will be doing my first flight soon, you did well the simulator training paid off.
Thanks.
Well done, mate! Just initiated my Avata today and I´m soo exited for my first flight with this!😀
New to your channel. Currently flying DJI air 3 definitely my next step. Great content
Your "first" crash was a great opportunity to use turtle mode! BTW that's the downside to bottom props, I find I can flip Avata but then can't take off because of tall grass or sticks lol
Indeed perfect for beginners! Congrats on conquering manual mode. I’m excited to try flying DJI Avata on M mode soon.
Thank you for the video! I am a newbie myself and am going to start with Liftoff as well. Well done for your first time!
nice Chad Liftoff is how i learn to fly fpv great job in short period of time buddy another great sim is uncrashed
Thanks
Waited for it! Do you recommend switching from Air2S to Avata? I’m thinking about changing to fpv
Just passing through, fpv and satellite drones are very different from one another, tbh, I'd keep your air 2s and if you can grab the avata. Use your mavic for cinematic stuff . Hope this is useful to you
What he said...lol. I agree
Really well done for the first flight. The sim time served you well. Throttle control is one of the more difficult parts of learning.
Thanks
Thank you for the video - echo the sentiment that I'm glad to see a first flight in manual mode. Nice job.
I own mini 2, but planning for avata. I think u can use a turtle mode to flip it.
Buzzing for you Chad, I just ordered my fov controller so manual mode here we go :-)
Are you a seasoned manual pilot or will it be your first?
@@ChadB this is my very 1st fpv drone, my main drone is the Mavic 3 so my world is literally going to flip hahahha. Loved your video though . I will ping my first manual flight over once I do one. I my controller should be here by Friday. I also nees to grab the fly more combo. New friend and subscriber here
Cool...thanks. Good luck!
@@ChadB appreciated bud.
Looks like you did a great job on your first manual flight. This gets me excited to buy the Avata. I just bought the Mini 3 pro and Mavic 3 (selling my Air2s).
Thanks for making and sharing this video, much appreciate it! I have been practicing on the motion controller 2 only, and wanted to find something that explained it, so helped a lot, thanks Chad!
did well bro ..inspiring me to have a go at drone flying
Hey mate, thanks for share! You're getting me anxious to fly my Avata soon!
Super helpful with helping me making my decision
Great job man. Awesome video.
Thank you.
Great job man, your turns were on point as well for just learning manual mode! Keep it up!!! 👏
Thank you
You did amazing ! i had the same issue with the controller stick error i send it back and DJI replace it for free
Remote Stick Error is about the tightness of the screws behind the controller. Not a big deal, you can keep flying normally. Great Video
You can hear he still has the springs "activated", need to loosen more
Don't know what you're hearing, but there was no tension in the springs
That was the first time using the remote with the Avata. Never calibrated before the flight. It hasn't happened again since calibrating.
@@ChadB Yes there is. That's how you activate mode2..you need to remove the rubber flaps on the back and use the tool to loosen the screws. 😅
I had already done that. There was no tension. The throttle was loose. I also say that in the video.
Great job Chad! You progressed quickly.🤙🏾
Thanks Bro!
can you power the googles from the FPV controller? or do you need a external battery pack? & do the googles fit over glasses? (wire frame)
Very cool, when I brought mine it didn't come with the sticks only the motion controller and works great but wanting to controller but they are so expensive....I'm wanting to learn the sticks as well but you've done a great job
Nice location and not so many people to fly in manual mode. And I agree with you, flying in a simulator to live is another difference. But very good, for the first time!
Thanks.
Excellent, well done.
Based place to fly manual/Acro is large open space.
Get plenty of height for more reaction time.
And of course sim time first.
Exemplary well done
good sharing .... What is the name of simulator you have used?
I use Liftoff
Thanks for this video Chad! I’m now where you are in my progress of experience with my dji, this coming weekend I’ll take my first manual mode flight. Wish me luck! I hope my 1st flight goes as good as yours did!
Nice...good luck
Great work on your first effort 👌. I did my first manual yesterday and didn't go nearly as low haha. But will get low next time
Thanks..very helpful because I am about to purchase the Avata. How did you like the hand controller?
Looks like you are doing a good job of it.
All good practice practice practice and practice use the avata to get better then get a emax hd that will blow your mind how good that is good luck great video
Thanks Chad for the video. I have had my Avata for about 2 weeks and practiced with the MC2 and had a blast. I now need to learn M mode to fly inside a few buildings. Now have the fpv rc2 controller. What sim did you practice with? The ones I have looked at dont seem to support the avata very well. Thanks.
Great job! I look forward to my first acrobatic flight
Nice vid. Yet to move from sim. I only use MC for N and S mode saving RC2 for manual.
Mines in the mail. Should be here in a few days. Thanks.
nice video! keep up the great work 👍🔥
trying to buy the avata.not sure if i should get the v2 googles or the google 2 combo..
The fit on either is different. Image quality is better on the Goggles 2. Depends on what you want to spend.
@@ChadB nice,what is your preference?
I've tried the V2 goggles, but I own the Goggles 2 and I pile them.
Hi my man! Awsome video! Wich simulator did u practice in?
Edit: ill check out liftoff!
GEEEEZZZ....when i see the issues and the hoops you have to jump through with this it makes me want to stay with my Evo 1!
Just had a few issues because it was my first time setting up for manual and I was recording a video. Usually its a quick setup.
@@ChadB time will tell, I'll keep watching fir a while b4 ibuy.
👍👍hello from germany - nice video
Can you share a video on how you carry out the control stick calibration? I try many times but seem like it does not calibrate the control stick and still keep on showing error.
Try restarting the controller with the throttle in the down position when connected to the aircraft.
Wow, this is impressive. Don't know how you manage that for a first flight ! I'm struggling to fly manual mode and I end up on the ground after about ... 30 sec. Don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Thanks...spent a lot of time on the Simulator.
Can you fly backwards and side ways with the Remote controller ??
What's up Chad. Question for you. I'm an avid drone flyer and would like to get my Part 107 license. I see a lot of youtube advertising for online material, but don't want to chance paying if it it is not legitimate and don't nothing out of it. What would be your advice or recommendation?
Would "turtle mode" not have worked in this case?
My friend told me not to buy a drone cause you can't fly it anywhere. Any advice.
You did great man!!
Great job!! Thanks for the video!!!
Which drone in Liftoff do you think flies most like the Avata? You did really well btw. Good job.
Thanks...I think the Drifty drones fly more like the Avata. But I use the Freestyle or Racing drones and change the rates to match what I fly on the Avata. It doesn't really matter what you use in the simulator. The key is learning the fundamentals of how to fly Acro
@@ChadB Thanks. I fly the freestyle drones in Liftoff. I think I do pretty well. I flew 3D helis for years so learning to fly acro only took a couple hours. I mean, I could fly without crashing on my first attempt but was shooting small gaps and power looping bridges in a couple hours. I bought a DJI FPV RC to use with the sim and got instantly hooked. So I ordered a new Avata with no controller from DJI. It arrived yesterday. I have a pair of V2 goggles coming from eBay Tuesday. Can't wait to see how well the Avata behaves. I'm not really into making video. I just like to fly things. lol Thanks for the help.
Hello Chad my name is Keith would like to talk to you sometime about flying drone. I have a mavic 3 classic.
You did great! As for me I think I’ll stick with my MC.
Lol
really good video and good flying ive been wanting to buy this but ive also heard about this bug that sends it straight into the ground ... so i been hesitant has this happened to you ? let me know if you can
I've experienced the tumble, but nothing I couldn't recover from.
Great fist flight, you did well. Crashes will happen no matter of experience.
Thanks Eddie...Appreciate it. I've already crashed again since then. This time the battery ejected. The drone is still good though.
Don't resort to fist fighting. Nothing here warrants violence. 😆 🤣 😂 New Yorkers need to chill 😎
Nice backpack behind you, what is the brand and model name?
It's an Endurax Drone/Camera back pack. Got it from Amazon here: amzn.to/3rHUjKl
Your experience was very similar to mine only I tried to launch right away in acro and that did not go well so then resorted to launching in normal mode. You will be hooked. Stay away from sharp turns when flying over water or or you could lose it
Thanks for the tip
Bro! you've got some huge cajones...first manual flight on hitting gaps and flying that low! I've had about 5 Manual flights (with the DJI FPV) and no where close to thinking about doing that just yet (at lease not in Manual Mode)...BTW...you're thought on the gimbal change is correct, but you want to do it when the drone is set to Manual (default is 15 for M)...so right before you do the stick thing change the gimbal position and that will be kept for every time you're in Manual...
Lol...thanks. Yeah...after watching the video, I realized what I needed to do to adjust the gimbal in manual mode .
Cool man 🤝😎
Hey just wanna ask did u use controller on the simulator? Cause i am thinking of buying controller itself beforehand for simulator
Yes, that's exactly what i did. Bought the controller to practice on the sim before I purchased the drone.
which stick mode do you fly in and which sim did you use? I am preparing for my first flight and could use the tip :)
I fly in mode 2 and use Liftoff.
Great video
Thanks.
The location looks just like a field close to me - Prine William County Soccer Fields!
You may be correct with that assessment...lol
@@ChadB I'll see you out there one day! I plan to maiden a bunch of things when it gets a bit warm.
can you do manual mode with motion controller?
No...not possible.
Did you experience a fit issue with the new goggles? Just opened the box and put them on and they CRUSH the nose, and I just have a normal nose. Unusable if you can’t breathe through them, in my opinion.
It presses down slightly on my nose, but nothing severe. I'm fine with them.
@@ChadB Yeah, I have a fair amount of light leak too. Will probably have to exchange for the older V2s, unfortunately. Thanks for the input!
@@thebardofbeer yeah...fits differently on each individual. Don't notice light leak either.
would be cool if they had like a simulation for the controller in the goggles. like vr hands on the controller.
when you are manual mode, does the avata still have the gps feature so it helps w/ hovering or is it fully manual like the fpv quads?
Its fully manual with gps. Manual hover unless you switch to sport or normal mode
Thanks. That would definitely help beginners. I've been trying to fly quads but it is very difficult due to the high sensitivity of the sticks. Too high of a learning curve. I've been mostly cutting grass. 😅
@@tphamSF definitely start with a simulator and make sure you use a decent controller with the sim. I started with the beginning instructions and worked my way through. Also, you can always adjust the stick sensitivity you get flying for a little while.
Chad , good vid. A few questions. I have been flying camera drones for 2 years now, Air 2, Mini 2 and Air2s. I got the Avata and have about 20hrs on the Motion Controller flying and about 10hrs on the Virtual Flight Sim, all with the Motion Cont. I have ordered the RC Controller, everybody is out so waiting, maybe not too patiently. So you flew on the Sim for 10hrs before you tried for real. I saw this vid and you did fine. Did you find it easier or harder than you thought it would be? I know that there are different rates, I simply don't know what that entails and has you figure that out. Hopefully you will do a vid on that and more vids as you build more confidence. For the moment I am quite comfortable on the Motion Controller and am getting some good vids. One last thing do you think it is easier to hit a hole with the Motion Controller or the RC unit? Keep up the great reviews
Thanks...I didn't use the DJI Virtual Filight App. Didn't like it. I used Liftoff for about a week. There wasn't much difference between flying the sim and the real thing. Maybe the rates were a little different between the two. You'll find yourself a little more nervous when you fly the real thing.
Looks like the simulator really helped you get the hang of it! Sometimes the ground can get a little too close! Lol! Really nice first flight though. Tom
Thanks Tom. Yeah the simulator is great. Can push all the limits without risking anything. Really helps you learn faster
nice skill
Which lift off did you use to train
The Racing Quads
Cool, thanks
Not too bad, good smooth turns Just don't make any quick 180 yaw turns and you are good to go 😀
Thanks...yeah I saw that on other videos.
lost focus for a second. but you were doing awesome for a while good job
That's exactly what happened
Sorry to say but found out this is a common problem with this model. Look into it just seen something today about them having problems.
That problem is not the reason why I crashed.
Glad to hear that your drone I working fine. I think some people are having issues. I like the drone. And dji is a good problem fixer.
What sim did you use?
Nvm you said it, Liftoff.
Chad, try this if you have the space at home or in your back yard….. when hovering; I noticed when I try to soft-land the Avata; it tends to bounce; even when I have the throttle pinned all the way down; it still has this bounce-type behavior… have you or anyone else seen this…?
If you're in manual mode it won't stop until you cut off the motors
Thank you
Should try the turtle mode
🤜🏿💥🤛🏿
Hello , Thank you for good video, Just wonder which simulator you trained on and what controller u were using with simulator ? Thanks
i bought my 1st drone from my uncle for a $100.00. its a DJI Phantom FC40. I Wanna get a FPV Drone. i think drones are alot of fun. i thought u did pretty good for a newbie. the better u get the faster u will probably go.
Nice flying for the 1st going manual. Man I wish this thing was around when I first got in the hobby about 7 yrs go. So much money and frustration went into learning to fly.
Thanks
I believe you are quite an advance kind of newbie. You did great on your first Manual Mode flight! As for me, It’s already thrilling enough flying DJI Avata with the Motion Controller.
Thanks..yeah the motion controller is fun.
