Hey Danny! I'm a new Avata 2 owner. I have not yet attempted manual flying with my actual drone yet. However, I've been hitting the simulators hard all week with my controller. Over 10 hours of flying virtually this week, and really struggling to gain control of the drone and be consistent with my flying. Your video, especially the part about rates, INSTANTLY changed my life. The only thing I did was change max rate to 360 and yaw to 200. I'm able to maneuver the drone so much easier now it's unreal. Thank you so much for explaining this stuff and showing examples. You are a legend.
Coordinating left and right sticks for turns seem to be a direct comparison to flying an rc plane with turns using both ailerons and rudder.Using rudder only(left stick) on a plane spins the rear-end in that direction, using the aileron (right stick)as well as the rudder banks the aircraft in a smooth turn... (?)
Thanks mate!! I need to do more videos on the Avata by the sounds of it 😂 this video did really well and helped loads of people such as yourself. Thanks for watching 🙌🏻
Brilliant video. I've been playing with Uncrashed and TrypFPV. Whilst I imagine that I'm not flying with similar weight, power and physics to the Avata (Trying to get all the exact adjustments regular rates for an Avata off people is like getting blood out of a stone), it is STILL teaching me how to fly FPV and I'm sure I can transfer those skills tentatively over to my Avata when I actually pluck up the courage to fly it in full ACRO outside. I've flown LOTS of times with the MC and in Normal mode. I actually learned here that once you have inputted your forward tilt on the right stick, it maintains that degree of tilt until it is countered. This would explain why when I'm using a SIM, it seems I'm always looking at the ground or constantly climbing 🤣. That said, I've had many decent flights in the sim so surely, I can do it for real outside. Danny, thank you for providing this tutorial. Ps. if you have any insight as to what settings a person can make in the likes of Uncrashed and Tryp to get the drones in there to fly like or as close to the Avata as possible, that would be awesome.
I bought today my FPV controller but after watching all these videos of how hard is to flight I was afraid to even try .This video really gave me hope .Tomorrow I'm going to give it a go .Thanks man. Greetings from Poland
Tips from me, spend some time practicing with simulator to get used with the joystick, then try to play outside with minimum attitude at 50m above the ground, try to adapt and feel how the wind speed and gravity pull to the drone, because imo that's the main difference between real life and simulator, hope it helps
No joke, the DJI Virtual Flight sim is an absolute must for anyone starting out. Pity anyone who went near water first time trying manual, LOL. It's brutally hard.
@@DannyBligh I just got the manual controller today but have enjoyed skimming over water with the motion controller...it has to be done it's just too cool not to.😅

Liftoff is pretty decent!! I practiced in velocidrone years and years ago but lift off seems pretty good. They aren’t accurate, they don’t feel 100% genuine. But it’ll teach you the muscle memory

Sure thing! But tbf this is where the Avata struggles. The motors combined with a small prop size gives it very little power that the moves I use to make back in the day with my home made fpv drone are hard to make (not impossible entirely) as the Avata can do it but not in a super stable manner even a drop needs a fair few metres to stop. But i’ll see what I can do! And liftoff is pretty damn good! The issue you’ll find with the sims is they normally have Betaflight controls, you fly them the same way but the rates you change don’t translate well but you can get it close. I mainly use the sim to keep the muscle memory and over time you can just adapt, similar to driving a car!
Great video 👌🏻. I know this is gonna sound stupid but what’s the difference between normal mode and manual mode. Wouldn’t normal mode always be classed as a manual mode because it’s your controlling it
In both normal and sport mode, the gyro in the Avata keeps the drone upright no matter what. If you're flying forward and you let go of the forward control, the avata will stop and hover. Very similar to a DJI Mavic if you have ever flown one of them. Whereas in manual mode, it's very much like flying a helicopter. You can flip the drone, make it dive, and treat it like a traditional FPV drone. Have a look at somebody like Mr Steele or even the Drone Racing League :)
@@DannyBligh cheers mate. I’ve ordered the remote I can’t wait. Could you recommend a good simulator I can use on my laptop. Gonna have a watch through a few of your videos. Your Chanel looks amazing 😁

I looked in the Controller 2 manual and it’s not clear as to what the single push does when in Manual mode. Thanks.
Hey dude!!! Thank you first off. To answer your question, for my drone nothing (i don’t think). My way of thinking is, it’s easy to accidentally tap a button. Don’t want to tap a button and the Avata to just drop
Off the top of my head, sensitivity is 10, expo 0.7, max rate is 720 for roll and tilt, 450 for yaw. I’m away from home at the moment for Christmas however once i’m home, i’ll check and if i need to then i’ll update the above

Nice video. Watched it again actually just after the first crash of my avata. Been practicing on simulator since long. Now i got my avata last week. Tried manual mode today for the first time. Crashed it. One of the motors near to memory card slot ripped off. The frame is broken. All I did was switched from normal to manual and as I was trying to control the drone, it crashed hit the ground, went in air again and hit the ground again. I guess that happened 3 times. Could you tell me what went wrong here?
Any possibility that you have a video that show what the sticks control?...it is obviously different from a camera drone....I watched the whole video, but because I don't know what responses I should expect, it really didn't make any sense to me
It’s actually no different to a drone like a mavic. Left stick controls altitude and left/right. Right stick is rotate left/right and move forwards and backwards. There’s a few videos on the channel about the avata, hopefully they help you more
So I need to purchase a MC controller. I have a little toggle joystick and I’m only able to use normal sports mode. I noticed that my drone pulls the left or right when I use those modes

I just got an Avata hand me down and I have goggles and a joystick type controller and I haven't been able to get it off the ground at all. It's killing me; I just want to fly sigh
It should do as the no flight controller requires gps to self level. It uses just a gyroscope. The gps functions on DJI drones are used for the return to home functions
I am looking at the footage from my avata.. the colors dont seem great.. doesn't really look like 4k HD to me.. am I doing something wrong ..? maybe for some reason my settings weren't set to 4k..
I do find the image to be a little soft on the Avata, I always find myself doing more in post processing for it to get a decent image. Double check your settings or make sure the file resolution is 3840x2160 rather than HD which is 1920x1080
Your camera might be set to D-Cinelike colors which is what you'd probably want if you're going to do any post processing. If I remember correctly it's at the far right on the pull-up menu in the goggles. Or you can go into the side menu -> Settings -> Camera (all from memory so hope that's understandable and correct)
BUY LONGER STICKS!! The rc2 has sorry short stick throw so every input is over exaggerated. Ten bucks for adjustable length sticks will help more than 20 hours practice
Absolutely, longer sticks definitely help. I’m pretty comfortable now but at first I was so use to the ones on my Frsky from years ago 😂 even the feel of the whole in terms of size were throwing me me off. Definitely recommend trying them
I've literally just burst out laughing! I can't really see the huge resemblance other than the beard but sure, you're the first to ever make that connection so I'll just say thanks? And move swiftly on! ha!
I used to fly airplanes in the military...can't get used to this PlayStation crap... I wish someone makes throttle and joystick like in the helicopters
Just started watching video and straight away am disagreeing, you make FPV sound real easy its not, proper FPV you don't have a pause button or a professional setup, you have to set it up in betaflight and if things go wrong you recover it yourself or crash, it took me many hours on a sim and repair money to get it right
No, but this video is about the DJI Avata mate 😂 i don’t mention Betaflight or any other flight controller software. FPV isn’t easy, I built and flew quads such as the Chameleon maybe 6 years ago. Took me months to get it even in the air stable through a full battery. This is strictly for DJI in terms of the pause button. But flying fpv in general in manual, the stuff I go through later in the video can actually be applied to any FPV drone

Or you can go into the side menu -> Settings -> Camera
(all from memory so hope that's understandable and correct)
BUY LONGER STICKS!! The rc2 has sorry short stick throw so every input is over exaggerated. Ten bucks for adjustable length sticks will help more than 20 hours practice
Absolutely, longer sticks definitely help. I’m pretty comfortable now but at first I was so use to the ones on my Frsky from years ago 😂 even the feel of the whole in terms of size were throwing me me off.
Definitely recommend trying them
👌👌👌
Hi Danny thank u for your videos, u look like the Ukrainian prez though 😅
I've literally just burst out laughing! I can't really see the huge resemblance other than the beard but sure, you're the first to ever make that connection so I'll just say thanks? And move swiftly on! ha!
better analogy might be small ball on a bigger ball 😂
😂😂😂 maybe!! But we all know how hard that is 🙄
@@DannyBligh exactly
just play liftoff
I used to fly airplanes in the military...can't get used to this PlayStation crap...
I wish someone makes throttle and joystick like in the helicopters
Yeah, it’s bizarre that FPV drones never use a proper joystick.
Tbf, DJI do allow you to fly it using a motion controller, which is pretty much a joystick
@@DannyBligh I know... but not on all drones
damn thing had horrible range
WHICH STICK MODE ARE YOU USING IN THIS AMAZING TUTORIAL?
Mode 2 🙌🏻
i was the 100th like
🙌 🙌 🙌 🙌 🙌 🙌 🙌 Congratulations to you! haha
