How to describe making a pyromancy build in this game? Okay, it’s like this: Imagine you are a bird, making a nest. You fly out and search for twigs. Before too long, you find a nice twig, and then another. You keep picking them up, and appear to be making good progress. But then, after you find enough twigs for about half of a nest, you just…stop finding them. There are no more twigs. Now you have to make a nest out of not nearly enough materials, and even if you succeed, you know it’ll be threadbare and terrible to live in. That’s what pure pyro builds are like in DS2.

@@sanddagger36I definitely enjoy the gameplay of planning how to tackle a room full of enemies. That first street in Central Yharnam comes to mind, as does the part of Lothric Castle after the bridge and right before Dragonslayer Armor. With MMOs, usually the trash mobs don't respawn once you've cleared them out the first time, which helps give you a pacing cool down between bosses without slowing down attempts if you're struggling. DS2 gank placement felt less interesting and more tedious, personally. 12 guys clown car-ing out of a tiny door in a narrow hallway was funny the first time but just annoying the next few. Sometimes I want to just run through stuff I've already done, or feel powerful clearing out weaker enemies, and DS2 is more "all caution all the time" until you kill stuff so much it stops respawning, so I don't enjoy the pacing as much as the other games. That said, if you've decided to play a game like DS2, it makes sense to pay attention to how it's designed and play accordingly, so hopefully your friends come around and give it a go the way it was meant to be enjoyed, if that's a type of gameplay they enjoy in other games.

Man, I love your format. Keep up the good work! Two quick notes: I would've prepared myself ahead of time, for instance upgrading dragon's chime or sunset's staff BEFORE going to the next cycle. Fresh starts are sooooo brutal in this game. The best thing would've been obtaining almost everything on NG, then moving on. It would be interesting to see a "spells only" without restrictions about the type. Sacred Oath coupled with Crystal Soul Spear or stuff alike could be pretty fun.
The invader in Eleum Loyce didn't show up because killing a boss in DS2 gives you the effect of burning an effigy, preventing invasions for 30 minutes. That's what the black and white icon with the red line through it means. Also, the solution to free-aiming spells in DS2 is the binoculars. Because DS2 binoculars work like a shield instead of a hotbar item, you can aim and cast in first-person while still being able to move around and dodge.
Fun fact if you used the prisoner's shackles it would have buffed your pyro damage and all the miracle and spell boosting rings do the same IIRC. been a hot minute since I last played DS2
Fun fact: you dont actually need to go through no man's warf to get access to the first area bonfire. You can get to it by starting at straid's bonfire and going down both sets of stairs, going through both illusory walls to where another pursuer fight is, then jump across to get the ghe item and jump down onto the platform. The entire area is available from either entrance (except the room with the dull ember)
Fun fact: JK's slow descent into madness is a normal reaction from playing the best souls game ever Another fun fact is that the final boss of DS2 is the hitbox
I thought i heard of some people doing this kind of "magic challenge" but it was a four-player co-op run with a sorcerer, a miracle user, a hexer and a pyromancer. Can't find anything about anyone doing that, and I don't know how workable that would be but sounds like it'd be fun.
To counter the free-aim comment: DS2 is the only game where you can equip the binoculars in your hands and not as a tool. You can go first person AND free aim spells with your off-hand. It is far and away the best feature for sorcerers that never came back.
the reason, I think, Ian the guard dragon flipped out on the miracle play through is he has a seperate animation for dying mid air and it seems you hit him when he in the air but 2 feet off the ground making that weird flip effect
You may think I’m nuts, but I wanna say thank you for your DS1 Sorcery/Pyro/Miracle runs. It gave me the knowledge/confidence to go out and Finally beat DS1! I’d already beaten 2 and 3 so much appreciation!
The Majula music is the most nostalgic thing to me. Dark Souls 2: SOTFS I believe was the first souls game I touched from what I can remember, and the music brings the nostalgia. It brings happy memories.
I like ds2 challenge videos pog also its interesting to see a challenge run where people go into ng+ considering this game actually has new content in ng+ rather than just being the exactly same experience
The utter irony of ds2 talking about cycles always having mirrors and being similar and watching you smoke bosses with the ds2 equivalent of Ancient dragon Lighting is not lost on me.
25:18 remind me of my own Strat in this part where I’d pop lingering flame, pull up a greatsheild and bait the little rats into headfirst diving onto the bombs
Bearer of the Curse mod adds a bonfire at the third structure, right before the boss, after all the horses are done. It does alot to make that fight easier to play like a normal fight!
I'm picky who I sub to. But, this was a sick run and i was fully entertained from start to finish. Looking forwards to being here when you hit 100k, good luck!
After defeating the Lost Sinner, you can buy the Penal Handcuffs from Maughlin the Armorer. When equipped, they increase the damage dealt by pyromancy spells.
Miracles only in base NG is actually my favorite DS2 run I've ever done. Blue Smelter actually became the easiest DLC boss because I could use the spell quartz +2 ring and great magic barrier. Once he went phase 3 his attacks basically just tickled
Great run, Mr. Leeds! I adore DS2 to bits, but it does have a few issues that can make a challenge like this rough/sloggy. Nonetheless, video was lighthearted and fun and I enjoyed coming along on the journey. Thanks!
At 50:34 that caught me off guard, I was under the impression that once you grab the eye from the ice dlc you can see invisible enemies in the base game, but I guess not?
Do you plan on doing this type of run for Elden Ring? Since there isn't technically pyromancies, but a lot of incantations are fire based, you could do Sorceries, Flame Incantations, & Non-Flame Incantations
I can only applaud your determination, good sir. I did a Fire damage only run early last year and it was hell (Yes, fire only, not Pyromancy only. I did not use poison/toxic, but gave myself access to Firebombs - useful eatly on). Personally ... The run up to Fume Knight was my worst memory, not even any boss itself. Fume Knight was simply slow, but not difficult; Ivory King was probably the most annoying of bosses, but still does not compare to Fume Run ... So anyway, great job!
29:03 that is because in dark souls 2 has a mechanic where darkess decresses lovk-on range, so you need to use a torch to reatore it to it's normal range
So, I realize this is a good few months late by this point, but you actually CAN poison the Covetous Demon. He just has a stupidly high amount of resist so you'd need 3 casts of Dark Fog or more to get one rolling on top of luring the big lug towards the poison jars on the side of the room

The entire area is available from either entrance (except the room with the dull ember)
17:33 Hitbox like a Plesioth.
Fun fact: agility, the stat which governs roll i-frames and item speed increases with both attunement and adaptability.
Fun fact: JK's slow descent into madness is a normal reaction from playing the best souls game ever
Another fun fact is that the final boss of DS2 is the hitbox
I thought i heard of some people doing this kind of "magic challenge" but it was a four-player co-op run with a sorcerer, a miracle user, a hexer and a pyromancer. Can't find anything about anyone doing that, and I don't know how workable that would be but sounds like it'd be fun.
This made my entire day. Work was rough, JK makes it better
Happy to help ☺️
To counter the free-aim comment: DS2 is the only game where you can equip the binoculars in your hands and not as a tool. You can go first person AND free aim spells with your off-hand. It is far and away the best feature for sorcerers that never came back.
Thanks for putting this so early so i can set my notification, i never seem to notice people about to stream till hours after they start
All good but this is a video premiere, not a stream 🙂
@@JKLeeds This stream was really good jk.
the reason, I think, Ian the guard dragon flipped out on the miracle play through is he has a seperate animation for dying mid air and it seems you hit him when he in the air but 2 feet off the ground making that weird flip effect
I used to like it more when the video was posted on thursday so I could watch it on friday at work, now I am probably drunk by the time it goes out
I hear ya, I tend to change whether I do Thursday or Friday depending on when I finish the video haha
I just beat DS2 (+DLC) fully and wow, huge props. Besides the breakdown at the end, you just make it look so... casual. 👏🏼
Fun fact: 45:48
You may think I’m nuts, but I wanna say thank you for your DS1 Sorcery/Pyro/Miracle runs. It gave me the knowledge/confidence to go out and Finally beat DS1! I’d already beaten 2 and 3 so much appreciation!
The Majula music is the most nostalgic thing to me. Dark Souls 2: SOTFS I believe was the first souls game I touched from what I can remember, and the music brings the nostalgia. It brings happy memories.
Wow! He really looks like Benediction Cumperbatch.
That ending was picture perfect, well done JK 🎉 I still think you went ever so slightly less insane than in the DS 1 throwing knives run.
My man did the whole run and din't learn about binocluars, did he?
I like ds2 challenge videos pog also its interesting to see a challenge run where people go into ng+ considering this game actually has new content in ng+ rather than just being the exactly same experience
Have watched all of these magic runs!! Love the content and all the work you put into it man, you do good UA-cam.
Love the gradual spiral into more jokes, as the run went on.
23 minutes of fighting fume knight sure mustve been fun
The amount of pun is astounding, just like Dark Souls 2
Music from Bully in the background? I dig it.
The utter irony of ds2 talking about cycles always having mirrors and being similar and watching you smoke bosses with the ds2 equivalent of Ancient dragon Lighting is not lost on me.
it's finally here! sometimes i do the challenge runs you do if you make them seem fun. i have a feeling i'm not doing this one 😅
Ah, best souls 2. A game so nice, you played it twice twice
I love your jokes man they get me every time. Keep up the good work. Much love ❤
You have no idea how many times I've beaten Dark Souls 2 and never thought to use Fall Control to get to the Rats.
The best souls game. Thanks for not shit talking it at every turn. Great video
37:42 this cracked me, perfect description of how those videos work😂
For some reason “the dragon rider had an accident. Oops. “ had me weak💀
JK i love you and also i didnt know that frejia apeared early because i am a challange runner and definitely not because i am terrified of ng+ ds2.
I'm picky who I sub to.
But, this was a sick run and i was fully entertained from start to finish.
Looking forwards to being here when you hit 100k, good luck!
Thank you for being here 😊
After defeating the Lost Sinner, you can buy the Penal Handcuffs from Maughlin the Armorer. When equipped, they increase the damage dealt by pyromancy spells.
The leveling choices: completely bizarre and honestly stress-inducing
But the puns: incredible
The vibes: immaculate
I never did ng+ so I was surprised to find out about Freya coming out to fight you. That's actually sick.
Been waiting for this one. Given Hexes are my Go To Build on DS2. Fell asleep during the end of Miracles so Hexes with my morning coffee. Nice
Thanks!
Dark souls 2 is the best dark souls game. It’s perfect. It’s messy. It’s fun af.
dude i can't keep up with the amount of jokes
Such a striking similarity to benediction cucumber ❤
Every second sentence is a pun I swear it's painful but funny how many you managed to shove into this
I admire how you somehow managed to snipe switches with every spell without using the Binoculars you can find in Majula.
Just started a DS2 run a couple days ago. Been looking forward to this one!
its incredible how u are so good at these games given me the urge to play all the souls games again so thanks for that
Haha I don't think I'm that good but I will take the compliment 🙂
This is probably the best Soulsborne game to do this kind of challenge for as NG+ and beyond in this game is actually done well and interesting
Man I can't believe you really went through this. You are a legend worthy of respect. But also insane, totally insane
29:03 that is because in dark souls 2 has a mechanic where darkess decresses lovk-on range, so you need to use a torch to reatore it to it's normal range
Awesome Video man Loved it from beginning to end !😊
Always looking forward to the videos and loved this one
Ps you missed out on the strongest hex GRS
So, I realize this is a good few months late by this point, but you actually CAN poison the Covetous Demon. He just has a stupidly high amount of resist so you'd need 3 casts of Dark Fog or more to get one rolling on top of luring the big lug towards the poison jars on the side of the room
