These weapons might be considered bad, but at least the bonewheel shield and dragon bone fist are bad to the bone. However if you're sharp, you'll decide to use the claw. But if you're truly smart as a whip, you'll realize that the notched whip is cracked. And if you quickly want to make your way to NG+2, you need to go by cycle.

It's a fun run once it gets going, but the start is a pain. Farming for the bonewheel isn't as bad as it looks, but I think any greatshield would work if you don't want to.
@@Raen5 Oh, I already know shield-only DS1 is going to be almost prohibitively boring. Hi, Speedrunner here. I like explaining weird things that happen in this game so here's a couple timestamps I noticed. 11:15 DSR's 60fps makes iron golem "randomly" pop up super high in the air when you knock him over specific collisions in the arena. Sometimes he can actually get stuck midair if you manage to have him fall on one of the pillars, it's pretty funny. 21:20 you performed a grab cancel by attacking the moment an enemy grabbed you. This CAN be used in other applications like with iron golem to launch yourself into anor londo, or with a demon worm in demon ruins to get into centipedes boss room. 26:40 that attack quelaag did happens when you deal 400+ damage to her butt. Its kind of similar to how iron golem staggers when you deal 400 damage to his feet and then another 200 to make him fall over. 45:11 you triggered accidental slope fall damage. While running at specific angles down this path (and quite frankly a TON throughout the game) the game registers you as being airborn and not on stable ground, so the moment you touch something the game registers as "stable ground" it takes your last registered height value and is like "oh okay, I need to give this much fall damage now"
@@JKLeeds I once drove through Yorkshire. At a gas station, a group of youngsters held me up and asked me which club I support. Of course I answered: "Liverpool." But when they brandished their knives, I said "JK, Leeds."
_"There were many other weapons, besides The Bare Fists, that were improved in the other games because of how bad they were as weapons back in DS1, And they went from mid weapon types to actually good weapon types."_
45:13 Dark souls can have some weird collision when going up and down slopes, especially the path here and the ones to the archers. The game thinks you fell, dealing fall damage as a result.
@justsomeone883 it's only that first arch that leads to the imps, the knights, shouldn't, be aggroed on you from that arch, but even even a light jaunt should be fine its sprinting, or walking while light gives enough volacity to make the game think your falling.
45:11 someone else already explained this happened because the game thought you were airborn, but just wanted to add that I had this happen once on the elevator at firelink that takes you to undead parish. One time I was riding it down but kept walking forward into the wall, and my character was really jittery because there's a slightly elevated piece of ground on the edge of the elevator it kept trying to walk on top of. When I finally stopped moving I just instantly died because the elevator had already traveled what the game considers a lethal fall distance and I hadn't been on "stable" ground since before I got on the elevator.
No how actually... I watched so many of your vidoes and those fricking puns are always so funny. How do you come up with SO MANY different puns each video. Best part of all the videos 100%
JK calls Big Hat Logan ‘Hugh Jackman’ and the Channeler above Gaping Dragon ‘Channeling Tatum’. …someone watched Deadpool and Wolverine before he wrote that part of the script.
21:24 My basic understanding says that you may have done a 'grab cancel'. Basically if you land a blow on an enemy on the same exact frame their grab 'grabs' you, it instead breaks the grab, and tends to throw you around. NGPlus's video 'Can you Beat All Dark Souls Bosses in Alphabetical Order?' talks a bit about it. The lucky part you had was that it just put you behind Gwyn, sometimes, especially if it's done with a running attack, it can absolutely LAUNCH you, even force you well out of bounds.
That last Kalameet fight was so awesome looking. I love his original ost, but after hearing that new song, I can't help but wish fromsoft would make a boss them with electric guitars for their next game. It would fit so well!
Yeh wikidot does that on a few pages. Quelagg and the gaping dragons pages claim they are vulnerable to bleed but if you go to the bleed page (best way to get there is via the endurance stat page) it clearly says they are immune to bleed. Then again it also says Quelagg is immune to toxic but she's simply extremely resistant rather than immune.
Your trio 3-cycle videos are so unique as a spin on challenge runs, and let you overcome some of the challenges of getting certain weapons at the start of a run without "cheating". Hi champ. I'm not an english native but i do really love your bad jokes xd, they're clearly the Dark Souls of the wordgames. PD also loved those FFIX soundtracks
11:12 Iron Golem glitching out has to do with how invisible walls work. Surrounding the arena is an invisible wall that acts as collision for "All Bosses" (presumably this would apply to any boss that is in the arena) its almost twice as tall as the player character model. If you gain control of the boss using mods, he wont actually be able walk off the edge no matter what you do. There are however a few frames in his falling animation that deactivates his collision with the wall that allow him to fall off. In some cases the frames that turn off the collision can end while the boss is already clipped in the wall. The result being the boss' model pinching to the top of the wall before falling.
@45:16 it's a collision bug with that specific bridge. If you move too fast across it, you "fall" and take a bit of fall damage. You can walk slower, or just wear the cat ring.
I've done these 3 runs in the past. Shields only is fun, specifically if you get an early drop from the black knights. Fist weapons only is more tedious than challenging, a test of patience rather than skill. And for Whips only I gave up after Quelaag, it was just awful.

After the 11th (barely veiled in humor) 'spinning wheel' pun, delivered in a monotone, deadpan I had to leave. I wish you all the best regardless. Ds1 is a beautiful game, and I am glad to have more content creators showing it love.
I've had that happen to me at 45:14 as well, back when the game first came out. I think it's because your moving down so fast and at that angle the game thinks your falling and hit a stop when you went over the middle. I don't know for sure, but I do remember that being in a video or something back then about minor glitches and what not.
The same thing happened to me in Anor Londo with the health loss. I believe due to the awkward angles of that walkway and the sprinting of your character it creates a damaging collision effect with your character and the object similar to a lot of other video games.
I'd never be the first flame in the comments, but good lord souls, I'm Gwyn have to speak up. At first, I wanted to shield myself, then I wanted to throw down the gauntlet, then I felt a whipping was a reasonable punishment for the rapid-fire puns bleeding through in every moment. It took a lot of endurance and poise to retain my humanity throughout this video. Just like the game itself, it was rewarding and well worth it.
21:25 grab cancel, weird thing that happens when you hit an enemy on the exact same frame that they try to use a grab attack, rare enough of an occurrence that it never ended up getting fixed
30:26 My first playthroughs of Demon's Souls and Dark Souls basically revolved around parrying and backstabs. Parrying because it was cool, backstabs because it was easy. And it does a lot of damage.
At 45:15 you lost health because of the way you were against the middle of the slope, the game thinks you’re falling because of the weird sliding thing you do. The same thing can happen on the other buttress with the other archer and the soul of a hero, it can also happen in Valley of the Drakes before the first drake if you’re coming from firelink.
"crazy how you can see new things in these games after all this time" ...You forgot a boss each playthrough. The twinned Sanctuary Guardians in the DLC. It's ultimately a very minor boss addendum, but if you go back to where the first one was after beating the rest of the DLC, you can fight two of them at once.
45:13 is fall damage. If you sprint down that specific slope at just the right angle, you can actually trick the game into thinking you're in free fall and deal chip damage to yourself. Never seen quite that much from it before, so that's interesting, but that's what it is.

That Quelaag attack you've never seen before makes me wonder if you ever saw the Bed of Chaos's Fireball Attack
Came for the runs, staying for the puns. You, sir, gained a new subscriber!
"crazy how you can see new things in these games after all this time"
...You forgot a boss each playthrough. The twinned Sanctuary Guardians in the DLC. It's ultimately a very minor boss addendum, but if you go back to where the first one was after beating the rest of the DLC, you can fight two of them at once.
I know about it but it's not a boss. There's no boss health bar, same reason I don't go down to ash lake to fight the black Hydra each playthrough
You can’t just play Tekkan music and not expect me to start head banging ☺️
6:56 there was a large titanite shard in the depths -> channeler room to the end right
As someone who went and did a shield only run the bonewheel sheild was my only goal from the start. Just happy i got two
Gaping dragon CAN bleed, I did it a ton in a randomizer run with the lifehunt scythe. Maybe the buildup is just huge
45:13 is fall damage. If you sprint down that specific slope at just the right angle, you can actually trick the game into thinking you're in free fall and deal chip damage to yourself. Never seen quite that much from it before, so that's interesting, but that's what it is.
