  • When I do one of my Ken Loomer Big Band club date concerts, I always give 100% in every performance that I do. Playing with these outstanding musicians makes me a better musician-drummer with how great they perform these arrangements that I pick to do. I`m an old school drummer playing on some great old Slingerland drums. This kit has the very big 14x26 inch bass drum which is so amazing to play on. With the wide open tuning of this bass drum, it gives me a sound that is full and no dead at all. It fits in so well with the Big Band music that I play. The great Big Band drummers of the past like Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Sonny Payne, Jo Jones, and Louie Bellson used this type of wide open tuning. When it`s my turn to do a solo, I want it to be exciting and dynamic. I use all the drums and classic Zildjian cymbals to express myself in a solo that the people will enjoy listening to. I use bass drum at one point to play it like a walking jazz bass line while I solo over the snare and toms. Just a great feeling as a drummer Big Band leader to be driving these arrangements and making the music come alive for the people. Nothing like hearing a Big Band live at these club dates. I have posted so many of my Ken Loomer Big Band concerts that I hope you can check out. Here is another Big Band video that I`m sure you will enjoy • Very Rare Exciting Big...

Ken you never cease to amaze...when I watch you, I feel like I am watching Buddy Rich ! And I never thought I would see another like Him. Hope to see you in person soon. Cause I am 67. Cheers.

I got to see Buddy many times and I know I`m not even close to what he played on a set of drums. But I know he would be very happy that a drummer like me would do the work of having a Big Band today and having the people hear this great music live. What I learned the most from Buddy is to always give 100% in your performance. Driving a Big Band to make the music feel good and supporting my fellow musicians with my drumming is what I love to do. Like Buddy, it`s always about the music first. Thanks so much for your comment.

Fantastic !!! And I can't agree with the title more, that 26" bass drum is a cannon !!!! Thanks !!!

I love using a 26 inch bass drum for a swinging Big band. Plus with that wide open tuning, I get a real note sound and not the thud sound of a muffled bass drum with a port hole. It fits the music I play so well. Thanks for your comment.

This is the BEST I've have ever heard him sound!!!!!! The kit and cymbals are supercrisp and deep. If I could find out what sticks he uses I am curious.

Playing with these outstanding musicians always brings out the best in me. I love driving the Big Band to make the music more exciting to listen to. When it`s my turn to do a solo, I want it to be exciting and dynamic. I always use Vic Firth 5A wood tip sticks. It has the best feel and weight for the type of music that I play. Thanks so much for your comment.

I can hear how a "boom" from a big bass drum lends itself well with Big Band. As opposed to a "wet thump" from say a muffled 22 inch.

@@joegaspari8153 You are correct. With this open tuning I get a real note sound out of the 26 inch bass drum and not the dead thud sound of a bass drum that is muffled with a port hole in it.

Yes this is my 14x26 inch bass drum I use instead of the 14x24 inch model. Here is a video I made showing both Slingerland BR version sets that I own showing this bass drum size ua-cam.com/video/V05oBtOPA5E/v-deo.html Thanks for your comment Charlie.

Ken, you and your Big Band should attempt music cues from The Price Is Right television game show, what Score Productions, Inc. did for that Mark Goodson-Bill Todman Productions game show in the 1972 to 1983 time frame. A lot of that prize music cue material did happen to be Jazz, Funk flavored. Some of the finest music ever composed and recorded for a television game show. Another idea is attempting the theme music of another Mark Goodson-Bill Todman Productions game show that turned out to have only a six month shelf life on the ABC daytime schedule between July 1977 and January 1978; The Better Sex, hosted by "Whispering" Bill Anderson and Sarah Purcell, its theme music titled Hormonal Imbalance, composed by John Franklin Grimsley for Score Productions, Inc., complete with Jazz scat singing. Even a Jazz arrangement of the Led Zeppelin drum solo instrumental Moby Dick would be an idea. If I got to play your Slingerland drum kit with the 14" x 26" bass drum, where I don't have the luxury of living in Florida, crossovers would be included in my soloing. 🙂 Fantastic work here, by the way!

I would love to have been the house band for a Talk Show the way Johnny Carson had Doc Severinsen and his Tonight Show Big Band play for so many years. Now you never even see a jazz band as a quest on any of the Talk Shows today. Well I`m happy to do my Big Band concerts for the people live and post those video`s on my channel. I`m just a hard working Big Band leader who enjoys so much playing with these outstanding musicians and performing great arrangements that are so exciting to hear. I`m sure you must be an excellent drummer who could play my Slingerland drums so well. If you like crossovers, check this solo out ua-cam.com/video/5FY4QKpBl1s/v-deo.html I did a rare crossover with my left hand playing the inside of the bass drum while the right hand is crossover between the toms and snare. Thanks for your comment.
