I saw Vitali in a match in Oberhausen, Germany in the early 2000s. I was always a boxing fan but had never been to a heavyweight match live. It was a good deal as they had premium seating for US military and their families. It was a long fight, and I could not believe the sound of the punches connecting. It sounded like a a tree falling over and over. It really put it into perspective just how hard these guys hit.

It's a big time fail rope a dope by Briggs, he doesn't have stamina to defend by moving his body out way, so he basically intentionally is eating those shots, so he sees every shot is why he doesn't get caught with any shots he doesn't see, he was betting the whole time on his power and a one shot ko which is bad strategy because Vitale also got a good chin

Absolute Truth, David! Vitali allowed himself to be overshadowed by his younger, and less talented brother. Wlad was better, technically, but Vitali was just so powerful and tough. Never knocked down, never behind on a single score-card. Vitali was way more humble than he should have been, in my opinion. Had he been a little more bombastic, more people would realize and recognize that he was one of the greatest HW fighters who ever laced up gloves! I've said this before - had Anthony Joshua fought Vitali, instead of Wladimir, most people wouldn't even know his name. Vitali would have knocked him out - and right quickly!

I totally disagree. Briggs was so self-deluded, that if the ref had stopped the fight - At Any Point , Briggs would have claimed that he still.had enough to win the fight and had been cheated of a victory. He wasn't actually knocked down in the fight. The ref was right.

It all comes down to one boxer being just a tiny fraction of a second faster than the other. Those slightly faster reflexes make all the difference. And then throw in pinpoint accuracy and insane combos. Klitschko was loading up and throwing those from beside his ear, and Briggs still couldn’t duck them. No doubt Briggs has grit, but this fight shows that all those chiseled muscles and the loud personality mean nothing in the end.

It looked like Klitschko wanted the fight to go the distance or perhaps didn't want to risk overcommitting and getting countered. His strikes seemed like 80% of his power at best. Still kudos for Briggs for taking all of them and remaining conscious.

In the end, after all the training, all the miles on the road jogging, all sparring, and all the pre-fight hype, boxing ends up like everything else.
It comes down to soundness of mind- otherwise known as sobriety.
Many great fighters have gone far until their soundness of mind became important. Then they lost-- and lost everything.
