It is hard to believe that I have been crocheting for over half a century, but since I started learning when I was 10 and I am turning 66, so that makes it 55 years. Something a very nice lady taught me way back in the last century, in 1985 to be specific is a different way to do the increase at the top. Instead of 3 single crochets in the same chain or same stitch, do a single crochet, a chain one and another single crochet all in the same place. This gives a sharper point instead of the round shape that 3 single crochets do and it tightens up the work, where 3 single crochets seem to push it out. There are several really fun patterns that create their own fringe the way you do with this and I love the ridge effect that going into the back loop that way gives me.
I prefer that idea too. Also when changing colours, the last "pull yarn through" actually belongs to the next stitch regardless of whether it's at the end of a row or in the middle. If you change colour before that last pull through it makes a cleaner boundary between the colours, which means you can make pictures like my 90 year old Mum does.
I’m 62 learned to crochet in my freshman year of high school…I have tried and and tried to learn to do a chevron blanket but have always got lost in the tutorial…then I see this 😮and every one is correct you make plain and simple sort of like crochet for dummies in video form…Thank You young lady …❤
My great grandmother made an afghan using this pattern. It was my favorite to use when I visited my grandma! It got lost though the years. This brought back so many memories!! Thank you so much!!
This is the first and only time I have understood Zigzig. You are a wonderful teacher. Thank you for explaining the beginning part where you explain that when knowing the number of stitches you need for your project, 17 plus 3, the only time you add 3 is at the end. I have seen a pattern where the pattern calls for 12 plus 12 plus 12 plus two. I asked what that meant and someone replied "It's obvious what she means", I wouldn't have asked if it was obvious to me, perhaps you could explain it to me, please. I learnt to crochet when I was 42 and for the past 13 years, I've been building up my stitch knowledge via UA-cam, thank goodness for UA-cam eh! I also had an idea for making the fringe fuller, if you create a loop at the end of the row and knot it off you will create double the amount of yarn for your fringe.
I know exactly what you mean! My Mom might have started to teach me, but UA-cam was my true teacher. There wasn't so many tutorials at the start so I think that's what really pushed me to try new things myself. I Love your tip on making the fringe longer, I didn't know about that! I am so happy that my video helped you learn how to do the ripple stitch, now you can make any ripple pattern going forward! You just need a increase peak and a decrease lower peak. Best wishes for your crochet journey moving forward ❤😀
Thank you for this lovely tutorial, will definitely be making it as soon as I have finished current baby blanket. But I will weave ends in, wary of them chewing on ends. Many thanks from N. W. England U. K.
Hi, I'm a little late to the party on making this afghan but, it's beautiful! May I please ask for the yarn specifics, what brand and color name you used? The closest I can come to without the exact brand and name is a coral. Thank you. Love your work, I have some catching up to do!
I get my yarn in Israel and they get their yarn from all over the place. I stopped keeping the papers long ago on my yarn because those that live in US don't have access to it and I don't have access to the US yarn. But I can tell you it's a Pink Salmon and a Dark Pastel Grey. Sorry I can't be more helpful that that.
Have a Xmas (green and red) made by my mother-in-law just like this. It it my youngest daughter who is now 16 17:07 fav one! Been trying to figure out how she did it. Can’t ask her since she passed 18 yrs ago. Now I can do my own once I figure out how many for a lapghan
This looks amazing and actually quite simple to do. I found you on Facebook and now I can watch your tutorials. This would be pretty in Christmas colors. Thank you!
The foundation row shrinks A LOT! I'm making a throw blanket instead of a baby blanket. It took me 3 times of doing the first two rows to figure out the length. LOL Thanks for the pattern! 💖
Yeah, this is the problem with all zig zags. Best to make a small portion using the yarn and hook size you want to use and measure it before and after the zig zag starts so you'll know how much the multiples will shrink before you start. Best of luck to you!
****make for Al & Adri’s baby with Caron yarn **** I can’t wait to try this, I love how it turns out! You could just ignore my above comment, I just didn’t want to forget my plans for this project! Lol 😅
@@estellecano8301 thank you very much! If you share pictures of your crochet on Facebook I'd love to see a picture when you've got your colors decided and have a picture of your progress. I didn't try it, but I think partly how this works is because you can't see the other color very well from the other side, you wouldn't get that effect with double crochet's, they would be to tall to be hidden.
I’ve done a few lengths of this pattern and other than my sample piece (17+17+3) I keep getting left with too many stitches or not enough stitches. I just did 156 as directed in the pattern and made sure I counted extremely thoroughly (I used stitch markers and everything) and I was missing like 5 chains for the SC when I got to the end of the first row. I’m pretty new to crochet so I have no idea how I’m supposed to edit this to work for me. This is such a beautiful pattern and I really want to make it for my FIL but I’m not sure I will be able to 😢
I was thinking about this last night and I was wondering if maybe I forgot to add in the 2 skipped stitches. Try a multiple of 19 + 3 and see if this works out.
@@Meladora1 Several of us have tried following your pattern using the video and the written. The math isn’t mathing. I followed the tutorial exactly-3 repeats of 17 st + 3 sts at the end. SC in 2nd st from hook then 7 sc. (8sc total) 3SC in same st then 8sc. Skip 2 sts. I 3 peaks, 2 valleys, and 6 chains left at the end. No matter how many time I frog it, I always am short 2 chains. Are you sure your valleys are skip two and you didn’t actually just skip one? I can’t think of any thing else that would make a difference.

It was an israli company since I live in Israel, but it works with any 4 ply yarn 😀

Thinking of you and your family during this time. 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Also wanted to ask why you don’t hide your tails in the next row. 😊
Thank you for your well wishes and thoughts. I don't hide the tails because I like the fringe look.
Wonderful ❤
Thank you 😄
thanks for you vid will do beautiful. be safe

What a great pattern . I am definitely gonna try this as my next blanket. Thank you for sharing .

❤ like to make it soon 😊
So when you have a bunch of ends like that on a blanket from changing colors alot, you just leave them as fringe?
I do, but if it's not something you like, then you can crochet a border around your blanket and cut the "ends" a bit shorter
@@Meladora1 ok thanks
Do you leave the strands as a fringe or do you weave them in?
I prefer the fringe, but it really depends on your personal preference.
thank you!
You're welcome!
I have a question have you ever crocheted shoes?
Do you think this would work with double crochet
That’s what I’m going to be using 👌.

This is really beautiful. Have you tried this pattern with adding more colors?
I haven't
Excellent work👍👍
Thanks a lot 😊
Awesome❤
Thank you or making a right handed version.
But of course! 🙂
I do a ripple that is a multiple of 19.
I don’t know why but I had to do +5 instead of +3 just to get it to work out like her sample. What did I do wrong?
I don't know because I can't see, but if it works then that's great. If others have this issue, perhaps this will help them. Best wishes!
The +3 isn’t working for me either. I keep ending the row going up instead of down.
I made this but wondering if I should block it or not ??
Block an afghan? I've heard of squares, but blocking afghans I've never heard of.
Can you add a border to cover the tails only on the sides please
You sure can, there are many options too! Just look up simple border or blankets and you'll find tons 😀
Can u do this two side crochet without it being chevron????
Never tried it, but I don't see why it wouldn't. If you give it a try be sure to let us know 😀
