    I know this one isn't super budget friendly on Arena (although it is in paper), but we talk about some substitutions that can make it cheaper on Arena in the article. www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/budget-magic-60-the-world-spell-standard

      Hey, there’s different ways to play the game. I honestly hope that imbalances in costs have people explore paper more and vice versa…

    If you weren't going for budget, Karn's Sylex might be better than Consuming Tide. In a ramp deck, it is often a one sided board wipe.

    • @HomeCookinMTG
      @HomeCookinMTG Рік тому

      tbf he's playing on arena. I know his "budget" is based of off paper costs, but as far as arena is concered, swapping consuming tide for 4 sylex isn't THAT big of a deal, it's mythic vs rare, but still, this deck is far budget on arena anyways.

    1:03:54 I think that, for whatever it's worth, the best line here would have been to go Island into main phase Joint Exploration, just in case you had sorcery-speed ramp on top... which ended up being the case. Having a Topiary Stomper on the board would have probably been good.

    Would Karn’s Sylex not be a better option over Consuming Tide? A play set would keep the paper price under 100 bucks still. I feel like having it sit on the battlefield is better than just holding on to a tide, plus it shuts down blitzing from the underdog. The amount of ramp makes it pretty much wrath anything away.

    It seems fun but when you play against mono-blue, or an esper with more counters than make disappear, then you understand why it isn't a sleeper deck :P . If you have hard counters you can simply play two little creatures, attack with them, and counter the titan of industry, the hullbreaker horror and the scrutiny. They can counter all your menaces because you are packed with ramp and lands, if the opponent has enough counters and he counters the menaces, you are doomed.

    Lately I don't find Aginst the odds videos that enjoyable. Mostly it's about doing just one thing only and that's all. If it combos off, great, you win. If you don't combo off, you struggle, mostly do nothing, and then fizzle into loss. How about focusing more onto decks that don't rely only on two or three card combo and more onto high synergy of cards? Do you remember Stake sisters? Would you consider revisiting that deck?

    • @marlowelain205
      @marlowelain205 Рік тому +2

      This is Budget Magic ahah, but yeah some of the against the odds decks are more or less quite linear in their play patterns. That is kinda the nature of combo decks a lot of the time though, especially in a format like standard where the cardpool is quite narrow. I think for against the odds decks a big part of the enjoyment value, at least for me, comes from the insight given on the deckbuilding process, as the individual card choices are often fairly unique and well-thought out even if the deck does revolve around one stream-lined game plan. Here though in budget magic Seth is mainly trying to highlight some deckbuilding options that can score you some wins instead of flashy decks and cool wombo-combos and the like.

    • @MTGGoldfish
      @MTGGoldfish  Рік тому +4

      I appreciate the feedback, although I think that Against the Odds decks have sort of always been like that (most of them at least) since the gimmick is trying to build around one specific card and make it work. Budget Magic and Much Abrew decks usually have more diverse plans though.

      @AaronRotenberg Рік тому +1

      The article linked in the video description says just improve the lands and maybe add Wrenn and Seven or Workshop Warchief as alternate threats and cut the Consuming Tides.

      Better lands are the main upgrade (more dual lands, channel lands). Beyond I didn't really like Consuming Tide very much, so I'm probably going to cut it for Workshop Warchief. There's a discussion about it here in the article www.mtggoldfish.com/articles/budget-magic-60-the-world-spell-standard

  • @theyonlycomeoutwhenitsquiet

    If I may ask… is anyone really particularly surprised that a value ramp deck in Simic colors would do well? I mean, don’t get me wrong, I love this style of play, but it feels a bit déjà vu.

    It really bothers me when people don’t play their land before doing stuff then complain about not having the mana to pay for a counter spell. 😂😂😂😂. I’ll never forget Seth not playing his land then getting his spell shame countered to a mana tithe…. Lord that was many videos ago but still he never learns.

      That’s the neat part, you don’t!

    • @hyperion9934
      @hyperion9934 Рік тому

      You can’t, you need wild cards to get particular cards. And the way to get wild cards is opening packs.

    • @MTGGoldfish
      @MTGGoldfish  Рік тому +1

      There isn't really a way to do that sadly, you pretty much have to open packs in some way or another to get wildcards and then turn them into the specific rares/mythics you need. Draft can be a good option though if you enjoy playing it.

    Hey Seth, which set do you think is more powerful: MH2 or throne of eldraine?

    • @MTGGoldfish
      @MTGGoldfish  Рік тому

      I think it's clearly MH2, although I also don't really think it's a fair comparison because MH2 wasn't Standard legal.

    48:21 is exactly why wizards doesn't print more white counter spells even though white is mechanically allowed to have them. They don't want players having to do that subgame against any match up with white mana OR blue mana.
