Item starts with a short clip of Al Bowlly playing guitar when he was a member of the Roy Fox Orchestra at the Monseigneur Club (see PT 124 and Turns Can 11 A). Voice over describes how Al achieved success in America and that he has been persuaded to sing for Pathe while on holiday in Britain.

Al Bowlly stands before a microphone and, accompanied on piano, sings 'Melancholy Baby'. He is wearing a smart suit (not evening dress).

Such a sad loss for the British audience . Dieing far too soon in the London Blitz by an air dropped land mine and being buried in a communal grave . Tragic end for one
who had such a tough time in his professional and private life , but has left a wealth of music so he can be remembered.
Thankfully the album about not remembering has made him remembered in this generation.
Professor Bowlly was a vocal gymnast in every sense of the term. His timing and phrasing are impeccable.
He was incredible!! He’s my idol/inspiration as I am a jazz singer myself! I have snatched a few of his techniques for myself (definitely don’t do it as well as him haha). I hope he knows how admired and remembered he is 🤎

I mean, to be fair, its not like every video with Al Bowlly needs a mention of EATEOT. I'm personally a little relieved, since a lot of the videos I keep stumbling seems to have only jokes or mentions about it instead of talking about Al Bowlly.
To be fair, that is understandable, since EATEOT is a masterpiece and fulfills its purpose making people aware of the struggles faced by those with degenerative brian diseases as well making people more aware of 30s and 40s music. I'm just glad it isnt mentioned a lot for once and that people are mostly talking about how nice the music and the crooner is, since it is somewhat of a old given in videos of Al Bowlly.

My father used to sing this quite alot . He was born in 1914 , so this was his top of the pops .
Never seen a live film , so professional and so highly polished , note the pianist watching Als every move to keep in time at every phrase . Al ,was a true Maestro of the period with such good looks

The great, inimitable Al Bowlly's life had a tragic ending.
On 16 April 1941, Bowlly and Messene had given a performance at the Rex Cinema in Oxford Street, High Wycombe. Both were offered an overnight stay in town, but Bowlly took the last train home to his flat at 32 Duke Street, Duke's Court, St James, London. He was killed by a Luftwaffe parachute mine that detonated outside his flat at ten past three in the morning.
His body appeared unmarked. Although the explosion had not disfigured him, it had blown his bedroom door off its hinges, and the impact against his head was fatal. He was buried with other bombing victims in a mass grave at Hanwell Cemetery, Uxbridge Road, Hanwell, where his name is given as Albert Alex Bowlly. [source: Wikipedia]

Here's some irony for you: Bowlly had recorded "When that man is dead and gone," a song about the prospective death of Adolph Hitler. In the end, Hitler ended up killing Al.

My mother was 18 years old .My father ran with o callaghans mills athletic team in Ireland and came 4th in the race for the all Ireland championship. What a wonderful voice this man had .

Its hard to believe that he was the elvis presley of his time, but he was, and even though I wasn't born when he made his music, its got a kind of nostalgia and he's very good at what he does. I listen to him when I get overloaded with the modern world, its soothing and kind of ironic nowadays but I love pretending i was around in his era 😊👍

He was born in 1898 in Lourenço Marques (today Maputo) in the Portuguese colony of Mozambique.[3] Al's father, Alick, was an Orthodox Christian who was Greek by nationality. His mother, born Miriam Ayoub-NeeJame, was a Lebanese Catholic, though Al himself was raised Greek Orthodox. They met en route to Australia and moved to British South Africa. Bowlly was brought up in Johannesburg.[5] The family's original surname was Pauli which was misspelt as Bowlly, Alick was only able to speak and read Greek, so the mistake went unnoticed and the name became permanent .

It’s really haunting to watch this, knowing in hindsight that this guy died just 5 years later at the tender age of 41 because of his flat being bombed by a leftover Nazi parachute bulb.
Who knows what Al could have also achieved had he not died so young out of the horrors of war. RIP dude.
