LOVE this, gorgeous and beautiful
Nice touch & vibe
Extraordinary piano playing.... beautifully arranged. Nobody plays like that anymore.
Try Peter Mintons version Irving Berlin's Say It Isn't So or Change Partners And Dance With Me.
His voice is much deeper than I expected and I love that about him. Very talented pianist and a very good bandleader to boot!
🎹 Love that stride piano.
Gibbons is one of the few pianists I've seen do left hand over right while playing the melody in the tenor in between the bass chords and notes! Very hard to do but sounds amazing when done right!
His music is lovely thank you❤
this style had mellowed out by 1938. Way to go, Carroll! Keeping the real good shit alive!
This performance is so cool! I love that style. It was so popular back in the thirties. I love his left hand! Wow, there's a lot going on there!
If you want to see more like this, search for videos of Charlie Kunz or Billy Mayerl; Pathé has some footage of them as well. There is also a clip of Monia Liter accompanying Al Bowlly and another one of Lee Sims accompanying his wife Ilomay Bailey. You can find clips of Johnny Green too.
Cheers!
Beautifully played thank you
A Garden in the Rain - one of his compositions and one of my favorites
He has very short arms but fairly large hands. The seamless transitions between tunes are incredible.
Fabulous
Beautiful Pianist❤
Came across this guy because of footage from an old episode of the Antiques Road show. Glad I did.
Maybe not as flamboyant as Fats Waller - but just as talented. A treat to listen to!
Amazing XXX
Makes LIBERACE look like a beginner!
What are those chords he plays at the very start? Where can I get sheet music for that and the first song?
What we're hearing is C to B13 (B, D#, F#, C#, G#) and as he changes chords, he plays the note D, a step below the E of the C chord. Thing is, even though the picture and sound are perfectly in sync, the whole thing is up a half step from what we're seeing. The first piece should be in Eb, not E. (I can see by the keys he's hitting that we're hearing it a half-step high.) So, if you want to play the same chords he really played, move the above down a half-step.
He Was From Malden Massachusetts in Us😊
It looks like he's playing a half-below what we're hearing, picture and sound being beautifully in sync. Is it possible to slow everything down together, so that the "It's Only You" sounds in Eb, as we're seeing him play, without messing up the synchronization of the sound and picture?
Don't be fooled- people were jammin back in the 20s and 30s
Now we know where Liberace got his candelabra idea!
Where is the microphone?
Both tunes were composed by Gibbons himself. Noël Coward recorded it with Gibby at the piano. It was not unusual for Coward to sing other composers’ tunes (such as Kern & Hammerstein’s “We Were So Young” and “Just Let Me Look At You”).
Wow, Mr. Mintun himself! I've been watching your channel long before I even had a youtube account, and I still enjoy your elegant piano stylings as much as I did back then.
Thank you for the information. It's true that, as far as other song composers are concerned, Coward seems to have been particularly fond of Kern's music, probably because he was personally acquainted with him, if memory serves correctly. Cheers!
Thank you kindly! It's not too late to correct the description so others know that Coward did not write the first song played by Gibby!
@@petermintunmusic 'Twas done. Do you happen to know by any chance who wrote the lyrics for the songs in question?
