    As a chemical engineer in this field I can explain this process. The ACEA is a European specification most foreign auto makers have shifted towards this certification. The reason why is because of reliability. The A5/B5 refers to the gasoline/ Diesel engines for passenger cars or DI Diesel engines. This type of oil protects the engine from knocking and ware and tare over the life of the oil. Because the telluride is direct injection with compassion ratio of 13:1, KIA wants to protect its engines from carbon build up in the intake values so they use this oil to lower HTHS viscosity, which means provide better fuel economy but provide adequate protection in the engine. Also I own the same model and use the Pennzoil Platinum.

      Thanks for the very detailed explanation. Just curious if penzoil you use is a5/b5 rated. I looked at the store and the only oil I could see with the a5/b5 rating is what I use. By your grammar/spelling I’m guessing that you are outside the United States. I’m guessing that the a5/b5 rating is commonly used in markets other than the US?

    Thanks man you helped me out of a jam my coworker got us into. Had a 2022 come in, the plug that was in it wascompletly stripped. Then he didnt tightend the filtre housing down enough and it was leaking. So watching this i realized why that housing is designed that way. Once i tightend it to 35 newton it was all ok. Thanks for posting bro

      Glad it helped you out. I don’t usually torque things to spec, I usually use the “it’s tight enough” but for things that will leak or is a safety thing, I will torque to spec.

    I change Amsoil every 5000 miles just because the engine is a GDI. I have been told to not go to the recommended 7500 mile marker. It does seem that Amsoil is probably a little overkill because of its cost, but I do not put many miles on anymore now that I am retired, I do use mobile one full synthetic on my wife’s vehicle and that has proven to be a good also, thanks for your advice

    The oil spec is very limiting to types of oil to use. As already mentioned, the Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w30 meets that spec. It's really a GREAT oil choice. Nice video!

    Thanks for the video. Such a simple oil change and despite the # of bolts to remove the cover, it's really very easy. Other cars I have owned require removal of the entire undertray, this one is at least a partial cover. The video allowed me to have the necessary tools on deck and ready to go. I did opt for the Mobil 1 5W30 Truck and SUV oil based on it's additive package and an OEM filter. I paid $18 for the filter from the local dealer but will order a few on-line to avoid the local dealer gouge... My previous oil change was done at the dealership but I will do it myself from now on...

      Glad it helped you out. I agree that it is a bit more straightforward than other cars. $18 for a filter is a rip off but like you said, buy in bulk online and save some cash. Thanks for watching.

    Oil Grade Footnote: In the book, in the recommended lubes table, there is a footnote 3 that says: "Requires grade engine oil." So a number of synthetic oils would work. I noted that Mobil 1 Extended Performace 5w-30 meets A5/B5 in the product literature but not on the oil container... Good video.

    Appreciate you giving of your time to make this video Sir - it’s the same filter housing as on my 2011 Santa Fe … it’s easy to put the gasket on the wrong place (I did it b4).
    Lucked out as I only use Edge and the Santa Fe just rounded 160K.
    Will be changing this weekend, thanks again !

    In another video I watched, the guy drives his Kia onto a 2 x 4 to give him a couple of inches to reach underneath. In case you don't have ramps. Great video, thanks

      Yes that will yield a little more room but I’m fairly thin so I can get under the car pretty easily. I also have a bmw m3 that I do drive on to boards to get it a bit higher so I can jack it up. It’s really low and even with a low profile jack I can’t get underneath the vehicle. Thanks again for watching.

    You can also run 10w-30 in hot weather which is what I’ve ran in mine all summer. Switching back to 5w-30 this oil change. I’ve been using Schaefer full synthetic.

    Looks like I'll be cutting holes in that shield to access the drain plug and filter just as I did with my Sorento. Not sure why they don't come with access doors like the older Kia's.

    • @didifixthat7910
      @didifixthat7910  3 роки тому +2

      Yes that’s a solution to make it a bit easier when performing an oil change. One thing to consider is the fact that the back edge of the shield that I removed helps support the wheel liner so I’m not sure ho much you could remove before it weakens the wheel liner? I’m probably over thinking things.

      I think it’s self evident. If I forgot to say, it’s underneath the car near the oil pan. It is the black plastic cap with a large nut molded to it that lists the torque tightening specification. If you don’t know how to identify the oil filter, you should leave this job to the pros. I believe anyone with a room temperature IQ and a moderate amount of mechanical acumen should be able to perform the job. Thanks for watching.

    I change my oil on new cars after 500 miles, too, but the fact that the filter caught the particles implies that maybe changing at 500 miles isn't really necessary. The filter is doing its job. Still, I'd rather get that stuff out of there than not.

    Is this car eating oil? 6.5qt went in and only about 4qt went out! Yes, I made sure car was warm before draining, yes I opened the drain under the hood, car was sloping a bit back at around 15-20 degrees (where the plug is), yes waited 10min or so for all oil to drain and even poured half a cup of fresh oil to "flush" a bit. Is this normal? Thanks. P.S. Regularly check oil levels and did have to add oil in between changes, but not a lot. Never saw an oil spill under the car.

    • @didifixthat7910
      @didifixthat7910  10 місяців тому +1

      Man that’s odd. Are you sure? Did you remeasure what came out? I would think you would notice if you were 2 quarts low. Not 100% sure but I bet you wouldn’t even have any oil register on the dip stick. With most cars the hash marks on the dip stick represent, between the low and high is about 1 quart. Is your car new? If it is and you are truly loosing 2 quarts, there is an issue. So make sure you still have all your receipts for oil changes. I think the power train warranty is 100,000 miles.

    • @didifixthat7910
      @didifixthat7910  10 місяців тому +1

      Ok. It does sound like you have a consumption issue. I would drive it for 1000 miles and see how much you loose. Take a photo of the dip stick noting date and mileage then take another after the 1000 miles and show it to the dealer. There is a specific amount of oil burn/loss that they say is normal. Please keep me posted. This seems highly unusual. Sorry you are going thru this.

    • @themichaelcreed
      @themichaelcreed 7 місяців тому

      1qt per 1000 miles consumption is acceptable according to KIA. Seems a bit excessive to me, but that's what the MFG deems ok. I'm curious @didifixthat7910, now it's been a couple of years, what kind of oil consumption are you seeing.

  • @benhensley7634

    500 miles really isn’t enough. That why Kia says 4000. You’re gonna have more metal between 500 and 4000

      So with all new cars I change oil at 500 miles and then every 5000 miles. Second one is technically 4500 miles on the oil. Cheap insurance.

      So if you don’t torque the filter canister there is the possibility that it may leak. I think you could tighten it by using the good enough method but don’t over tighten it as the casing is plastic and I would think you could strip the plastic threads. Small chance and I think you would really have to horse on it to strip the threads but hey anything is possible. Enjoy your new ride. What trim did you get?
