Here is Helen singing her very first hit record "I Don't Know How to Love Him". This tune reached No. 13 on the Hot 100 in 1971. Enjoy!
Oh My. Where have the 50 years gone? Wish I knew then how precious the 70's were.
Who cares, look what we lived. you want to start again now? No me, we lived in an erra that had some extraordinary talent..
Regardless of what others say, I agree!✌️
I knew how precious it was at the time. I'd go lay on a bank and think about it. Cheers QuGee baby.
We knew how precious the 50s 60s and the 70s were
I did know.
Enjoy your heavenly peace pretty lady. We loved your music. Thanks for the great memories.
There would be no 70's without this awesome voice - RIP Helen Reddy!
Helen had such a unique voice that was hard to replicate. Definitely one of a kind. May she rest in peace.
R.I.P. Helen...thanks for the music!
Helen Reddy, Karen Carpenter, Barbra Streisand, Roberta Flack, Gladys Knight - all unbelievable woman singers of the 1970s - talented, intelligent, beautiful
And Liza Minnelli, Donna Summer, Diana Ross and Aretha.
This song gives me goosebumps. I remember hearing it during my teens and crooning this song with my sisters and friends.
you forgot Judith Durham

Helen Reddy, singer behind feminist anthem 'I Am Woman,' dies at 78 . September 29, 2020
Rest in peace my dear idol....
@@elainerose4750 Was a kid in the 70's so didn't know how I Am Woman affected so many women until later on but loved all her songs. I get it now. Yes, RIP to an idol and truly underrated talent.
im am starting to hate bday, barry denin died on it an so many die around this time
A great singer, a great person RIP Helen
A great singer with a unique style. My favorite female singer of the 70's and one of my favorites of all-time!
Helen’s voice was a part of my childhood...Her music will forever define the 70’s. Rest in Peace Helen...🙏
No T&A. No fireworks. Just a strong voice singing
Bravo! Love Helen Reddy. NO bells or whistles. Just pure talent. RIP Aussie Girl ❤️❤️❤️
Everytime i listen to Helen brings tears.
I had hopes of seeing one of her concerts that she performed as an older woman. She was fine it seemed, next thing I heard she had died.
Her voice is incredibly beautiful...but also so very unique. When you hear her sing you know instantly who it is.
It's her Australian accent.
I'm sure there are women who are average folks with beautiful singing voices who never had the opportunity or luck to hit the big time.
@@@piustwelfth It is... I "nivah thawht she hed wahn win Oi wahz yahng, bit she dahz" This is good, because I am so tired of people (either in jest or malice) say "Americans must have the best accent [which is strange because there are at LEAST 12 regional American and Canadian accents], since everyone sings like this", "but she does have a "wigh" of doing her native "eksint" without her being too "hahsh" with "eet". There have been a few other artists who have done this, like the "Goodies" (from Tennessee), "Petula Clark" (from the UK), Brenda Lee (from Georgia, US), and "the Easybeats" (also from Australia). Something like this happens in the UK, too (I've already mentioned some internationals stars, but people from Liverpool sort of sing in a "Scouse" accent, where "peanut" comes out like "penis"and "mother" comes out as "muzzah" (such as Cilla Black and yes, the Beatles).
Stunningly beautiful woman with the voice of an angel
Why do we have to get old?
This is just about one of the most beautiful vocal performances ever.
I agree!!!
@@tommyv8777 agnetha falstkog version also
Sings so simply beautiful
I agree , such a beautiful voice and natural beauty
Yes, but you're hearing the studio album version. She's miming. Still she's a very good vocalist.
“She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and a truly formidable woman. Our hearts are broken. But we take comfort in the knowledge that her voice will live on forever.”
Yes agree master of her Craft RIP Helen Reddy
I revisited this video after learning of her passing, first saw this 2 years ago. I had heard the song on the radio when I was in high school but didn't think much of it. I happened on this performance by chance and I was mesmerized at how effortlessly powerful her voice was and how stunningly beautiful she was, I fell in love with her. I've watched/listened to this video dozens of times and I am rapt every time. I went on to learn what a women's right champ she was, a truly amazing woman
That was a beautiful way to remember her.
I sang her songs in my bedroom as a first grader...memorized every word. ❤️
She was my favorite female vocalist growing up. My first album on my first very own record player. RIP.
Not sure many people realize how many great songs she had...beautiful voice, brings back many memories 🎼💖
Indeed. Everyone should have her Greatest Hits collection.
Agree. Another great album is "Live In London. A lot of great songs on that album as well as a medley of the greatest hits.
I literally cannot help but cry when I hear her sing. Her voice is powerful and pure, her delivery incredibly poised. A voice that takes me right back to my childhood. My mother had my hair cut like this back then. They called it a "shag" and not like Austin Powers used the word. 😊
Helen Reddy, Born: October 25,1941 Died: September 29,2020. Rest In Peace.
What a beautiful song sung by the amazing Helen Reddy! ❤
Incredible talent! And as an 18 year old in 1973 we were blessed with the most amazing music of all time!
Can't imagine anyone else singing this classic song. Helen's voice is so unique and beautiful!
I haven't heard this song in decades. But I do remember how powerfully and perfectly she sang this song.
Those EYES, my GOD! She's astonishingly Beautiful, with a voice to match!
+retrorex Born in Melbourne she's Australian :)
retrorex My sentiments exactly!
Wowww,.. That's ALL I can say!
Amen brother . I am 61 and looking back at this video clip I see and hear more now then I did the first time around . What a special time and era .
retrorex AND TO THINK SHE CAME TO OUR COUNTRY WITH JUST 200 DOLLARS. TO THINK OF HER WITH DEMENTIA NOW IS VERY SAD.
Yep - what a face and voice! Heard this by ABBA's singer Agnista Faltskag if that is spelled correctly when she was a young girl and have always loved this song!!
she was a great singer and this is one of her best.
Agree
this was her best.
In my opinion this was always hands down the best version of this song ever......there is something so incredibly touching about it because she never tries to overpower the song, and this version always moved me the most for that reason. What a unique and superb singer she was.
She had some power but her voice was too whiny for me.
Beautiful version of this ,you are totally spot on , incredible talented lady
@@harrychristie5392 I always thought too she did by far the best version of this song also her voice was always Christa clear!!
@@shelleyklukiewicz9545 I just read her bio, she was nervous when she sang this song, which was PERFECT for the song's mood!
I agree! The best version! Yvonne Elimans version was very moving in Jesus Christ Superstar, but I love Helens performance overall! Rest in peace. Thank you for all the beautiful songs, you will always be remembered.🙏🎼🎶🎹❤
No piercings no tattoos no heavy make up just natural beauty and natural talent
No large back up band either!!!
And no giant fake boobs hanging out
And what a talent she was!
A true angel.
Such power in her voice. No need to be up against the microphone. Perfect talent
Have not heard this song for many years and instantly brings a tear to my eyes listening to her voice and the song. Wow , transports me back to being a kid being with my late parents and enjoying life to the fullest. How i wish i could go back to them days just for 5 minutes. Didn't realise and appreciate what a wonderful voice she had back then.
I didn't either. I was about 7 years old,but still appreciated other less talented vocalists. It's upsetting to realize that the media dictated our reality. I wonder how many other Helen Reddy's and David Cassidy's(my favorite)there were who we never heard sing. I also don't understand why she wasn't given more of these kinds of beautiful songs to match he angelic voice instead of many of her other songs which I'm not crazy about. David Cassidy was another underrated artist after his initial teen idol fame. He was dismissed as a former teen idol and never was allowed to regain and not taken seriously despite being a gifted singer guitarist and song writer, even though he continued to record both renditions and original songs long after his early 70's fame.He recorded a rendition of Walk Away Renee, released on an album in 2003.

Yes! So hard to believe these songs are this old. Oh to go back...
Me, too. I was a kid then too and miss it so much sometimes. And she was just another singer I liked then but I didn't realize how good she was.
@Peter Evans lol
I understand exactly what you said... brings back memories... all the great songs do.. Reddy was an exceptionally gifted vocalist
She hits the high notes with ease. Beautiful voice. RIP, Helen.
Heaven just got an angel. RIP ms Reddy. Thak you for the music you've left us
Rest in peace, Ms. Reddy. You were such a powerful voice for women.
Beautiful. I used to sing it to my little daughter.
Amen.
😭😭😭😭
A
and men, the clue is in the song.
...I am absolutely FLOORED by Helen's passing... I, a 58-year-Old Gay Man, always came to watch her perform this MONTHLY, on this channel, because not only of the title, but, of the PERFORMANCE; She sings this with tender wonderment; A Young Lady, embarking on WOMANHOOD, because of the Introspective inner feelings that are going to bring her over the threshold...she's 'loved so many Men before', but this one, will CHANGE Her...
...As much as Helen's Music changed ME. Let's hope that Helen gets the final accolades her Music deserves, as much as "The Woman".....because, she IS....
WOW....We are on the same frequency, my friend! I am 57, gay, and all of that....loved Helen Reddy. This such a pretty song. Special woman. Gay men have such good taste, or they used to...I laugh. Happy New Year.
This was amazing
That was a BEAUTIFUL tribute to Helen. Very well put dear. I'm sure she's singing up in Heaven with Karen Carpenter. Probably doing a duet with her. Now I'd love to hear that. GOD BLESS.
RIP Helen Reddy
Your name your songs will be forever
This is one of Helen Reddy's best. It takes me back to a sunny morning in 1971.... her sweet voice on the radio as I drove through rural area of Bauhinia Downs in central Queensland, Australia. RIP hon, now you're showing the angels how to sing. Thanks for the memories.
Did you shout along in your Range Rover to "I am woman hear me roar."
Empathy, very rare in any song.....with her voice, just wonderful////Thanks Helen
Such a pure sound. An Australian legend.

Absolutely gorgeous, we'll remember Helen as long as we live.
I feel so richly blessed to have grown up in the 70’s with the epic music weaving the fabric of my being.
Same here! If God asked me what Decade would I like to be brought back to, I'd say he 70's my Lord!
Amen to that!
IKR 😊
It's absolutely incredible how much great music came out in the 60s and 70s , the artists were incredibly talented,
Ms Reddy was a strong independent woman who earned every accolade and award she received.
A career of talent and hard work.
I rarely long for the good old days, because I'm so blessed with my kids and grandchildren, however, as messy as the 60s and 70s were in some ways, the American people were a very honorable and hardworking population,
I thank my Lord for the gift of life, it's been a great ride
She was such a wonderful singer. Probably my favourite version of the song.
Hi Susan hope you're okay?
I had the privilege of meeting her in about 1972. I was only 11 or 12 and she came to Peoria, IL. My last name started with H and I was wearing a necklace with just a big H. She had already performed and the next singer (Mac Davis) was getting ready to come on. I told my parents I was going to go to the bathroom but instead I went looking for Helen. I couldn’t believe it but I found where she was! There she was eating an ice cream cone and she walked over to where I was standing with a few other people. She signed a small piece of paper that someone gave me. I then gave her my H necklace. I was shaking so bad. She took it and thanked me. I came back to my seat crying and had to tell my parents what happened. I was SO starstruck for weeks! She’s always been a special lady to me. If you’ve read all my story, thank you!😉
Also, whats weird is that her and Mac Davis died on the same day....
My mom gave me her 45's from when she was younger and this was one in the collection. I'm in my 40's and so grateful she shared music that I think is timeless.
I have always loved Helen Reddy - her voice, the person. But her voice is so strong, soft and angelic at the same time - and unmistakable.
You forgot her beauty! She was one very beautiful woman! I would be a proud man to have dated her back in the day. That is before she and I were both married 😉
Pete’s Dragon is still my favorite childhood movies. Thank you for making that movie so magical and being a character of love.
What did she play in Pete's Dragon?
I remember driving in my dad's old cutlass supreme: this blasting on the AM Radio: a voice that at 11 years old - didn't full grasp the deepest meaning. A terrific moment. 🌿 🐄 🌿
Let's remember Helen Reddy just like she was here. RIP. Thank you for the music.
Sept.29,2020 the angels have 2 more choir members. Helen Reddy and Mac Davis.
Great Bassist from Tower of Power Rocco Also passed away!
The B-side of this single was written by Mac Davis!

@@will89687 I Don't Know To Love him is the B side. Great story just got a little more bittersweet. I saw them together in OKC when Mac Davis opened for her, when she was on tour in early 70s. He performed I Believe in Music, the A-Side, ... not a hit. The album has the early version of I Am Woman. Heartbroken. Absolutely heartbroken. Hugs Helen.
We are not God's counselor or his adviser. We do not speak for God. We do not have the authority to say where or what any of us will be or what we will be doing. Eternity will not be about any of us or what we did. It will all be about Jesus Christ who died on a cross to save us from our sins. We all deserve hell and then the lake of fire that burns with sulfur and fire on judgement day.

I absolutely loved this song by Helen. This song is about JESUS in JESUS CHRIST SUPER STAR. I always got a lump in my throat when I heard this song. Such a beautiful song.
Thank you for mentioning that this song is about Jesus, and not some guy.
It's not really about Jesus. It was inserted into the musical but was originally written as a generic love song.
One of the GREATEST songs in ALL of Musical Theatre... and... from what I'm hearing in all the new shows... it'll be YEARS before anyone even comes close!!!!
The song is very Beautiful, but with Helen Reddy sonnds even more Beautiful! Great singer and classy Lady!
I'm Hindu and love this song.
What a great song that's stand the test of time.
I was a child when you were at your peak. You inspired me! Love you.
What a song. Nobody writes like this anymore.
It takes hard work and talent. Not in todays culture. They might have the talent but not the work ethic.
I mean, Andrew Lloyd Weber is still alive.
@terminalgremlin Not true-Helen Reddy co-wrote songs.
@terminalgremlin "I am Woman": lyrics by Helen Reddy, music by Ray Burton. Jerry Leiber wrote "I'm a Woman" that was sung by Peggy Lee. Not the same song. Why don't you get your facts straight?

It's enough to make even an old slighly cynical person like me a bit misty. Love the simplicity of the staging and her no fuss performance highlighting her voice. Just wonderful!

Ladies & gentleman.... That's how u do it...perfection
I am an Aussie and now 51 years old and GOD how I remember this wonderful voice from my childhood. I grew up with Helen Reddy. As a teen I fell in love with her for being the woman I absolutely wanted to be with. As hard as it may be to believe in the cynical world of 201x, 'I Am Woman' was as much as much a genuinely believed anthem for me and my mates in 1983 as it was our female colleagues - yeah, crazy, shock, horror concepts, 'cause in the 201x world I am an angry old white man who apparently hates everything..... Sadly, that 1983 set of values lasted for MAYBE 3 years in wider society - No, I didn't kill it, YUO probably did. My mates & I were a social abberation in the mid 80's but we were real. We still believe in social justice. We also believe in the opportumity to express divergent opinion, rather than simply complying with the currently accepted narrative. Strangely enough, Ms Reddy stood for pretty much the same constructs in about 1972.... butvthen what would I know... I was only 6 back then, so obviously devoid of intellect...
This woman! WOW! An amazing voice and such a natural beauty.
Wouldn't it be nice to have a new Helen Reddy album...?...Her vocals are effortless...and she is a beauty!!
Im sure up in Heaven there are "New" Helen Reddy albums!

I've always liked Helen Reddy; thought she was vastly underrated and still do to this day. This is my favorite version of a great song.
And this is live. No lip synching to her studio recording. I grew up in the 70's , but I was into Rock and sneered at her stuff. I have to admit, she was a great singer.
