Two of my favourite artists Dionne and Barry and this song is one of the reasons. Bee Gees said they new this song was going to be a huge hit with Dionne singing it.
It's now April of 2023, and this song still sounds as fresh as the day it was recorded. It doesn't get any better than a song written by the Bee Gees and sung by Dionne.❤
Just love all the chord changes in this song. Dionne was not convinced about singing this but Barry Gibb persuaded her and now nearly 40 years on it is still one of the greatest songs of the decade.

Dionne Warwick is pure class. Just look at how effortlessly she is able to sing this song. I'll tell you, this song tears me up. She is truly one of a kind. A lady through and through who has regally held herself up for all these years. Never once trashing herself with the usual Hollywood BS. Having the talented Bee Gees making the chorus is a great honor, my friend. Their voices joining a great black woman's voice is something beautiful to listen.
From what I understand, they - especially Barry - wrote it with her voice in mind, for her, however, she turned it down for several years, and finally agreed to do it, netting her yet another Top 10 hit.
@@billguill1859 Yes she was used to the way Bacharach and David wrote songs and found the Bee Gees style too different. However Barry Gibb finally convinced her it was just perfect for her and was. Although Maurice Gibb said that the Bee gees themselves should have released the song. Great chord changes and still one of my firm favourites from the 1980's.

I'd just turned 23 when this beautiful song was released. It always reminds me of Christmas 1982. My Dad passed away from an unexpected massive heart attack in April that year, and needless to say, my heart was still breaking and hurting when I would hear this song. Christmas was always a very magical and special time in my family, so celebrating this first one without Dad was extremely difficult. Shortly before he passed away, I'd accepted a promotion and was just starting my new sales and marketing duties. I had to move about halfway across the state, so going to visit Mom to give and get support over losing Dad would take a little longer and probably happen less often. To top it off, my wife, who'd always seemed to like and get along with my Dad, hadn't cried, during the time around the funeral or even months later. Finally, on the trip back home after visiting my Mom around Thanksgiving, she broke down and began crying. I reached across the car and pulled her closer to me to help comfort her, to assure her everything was okay and that Dad loved her. She said that wasn't what was wrong. What she said still haunts me to this day. She said she was just glad it was my Dad who had passed away, not of one of her parents. Talk about a kick in the stomach! I was obviously hurt and disgusted by the comment, and that was the beginning of the end of our relationship. I really didn't want to get divorced, so I stayed married to her for 8 more loveless and grueling years, including being there for when both of her parents got terminally ill and passed away. Finally, after both of her parents had passed away and Christmas 1990 came, I'd had enough and I moved out. We got divorced in May 1991, but we buried the proverbial hatchet to try and make things easier for our daughter. (Oh and, I could talk for hours about the lack of intimacy during the marriage, but you've probably already figured out that topic was loaded with other MAJOR issues.) As for this song, it seemed a higher than usual number of popular songs during 1982 had lyrics and/or a theme involving the heart. Or maybe I was just more sensitive to heart issues during that year. Thank you, Dionne, for your incredible vocals in this song and to the Bee Gees for their amazing lyrics and music!
I was 7 yrs old, and I didn't grow up hearing this version of Heartbreaker. I grew up listening to all the Bee Gees as my mom loved them so, and I grew to love them as well. Dionne later admitted in an interview that she was never really fond of this song but just listen, this song and Dionnes voice is simply a magical combination they go together like Strawberries and cream
Timeless!! She put this song over at the age of 42 . All the Beyonce's and the Swift's and the Ga ga's and the whoever's couldn't make a song this good if their lives depended on it. Period
This gem appears to be, at least in part, lip-synched, so maybe a bit less effort required to perform for this video production. At 3:40 she is singing different lyrics from the audio. Still a treasure either way and a splendid composition. Maurice Gibb regretted that they handed it over to her.
How can you not love her voice and the short runs towards the end is perfect what a talent! My mom would blast this song in her Chevy Citation whenever we were out running errands when I was a kid!!
It's 2023 now but I really love listening this song, it brings back childhood memories.. I always sing along with this everytime I listen to it coz I really love the melody❤️💙💖
similar to most current movies seem to have little substance; most of today's tunes lack a good melody- without one- they won't be remembered long-no matter how good the lyrics are.
"...My love is stronger than the universe. My soul is crying for you & that cannot be reversed..." Given me goosebumps since I was a kid listening to this for the first time in 1982
@@colinmiller5502 in my opinion, The Bee Gees wrote better songs and had better harmonies than The Beatles! I'm a massive fan of The Beatles and their influence on The Bee Gees is apparently obvious but man, The Bee Gees output in the late 60s really brought the art of pop music to another plateu!
@@colinmiller5502 Hey, Colin. What do you think of The Bee Gees recording of Heartbreaker from 2001? Personally, I find it to be rather lacklustre and uninspired. The vocals seems lazy and the production is weak. Same with their recording of Islands In The Stream. Very weird considering their usual heartwarming and passionate harmonies and stellar production techniques. I mean, they're very proud of those two songs, they've said so themselves so I found it unsettling to listen to those versions of the songs. I'm a MASSIVE Bee Gees fan and to me, they're the greatest harmony pop group in history. Have you heard their versions of Heartbreaker and Islands In The Stream? They were exclusively recorded for the the double CD set Their Greatest Hits- The Record released in 2001.
The synergism of The Bee Gees combined with Dionne Warwick could only be stellar. What a fabulous cover of this song by Dionne Warwick, a true diva! One of the greatest female vocalists. Her voice and Barry Gibbs backup vocals sound awesome together!
+Julia Herms They wrote many, many songs for popular artists after the world turned against disco (and, childishly, against the Bee Gees). Barbra Streisand and Barry Gibb sang their song, "Guilty" together, and she sang two other Bee Gees songs, "What Kind of Fool," and "Woman in Love." They also wrote "Islands in the Stream" for Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, which was a huge hit for them. Diana Ross had a big hit with the Bee Gees' song "Chain Reaction" in 1985. In the 1990s, Celine Dion recorded their song "Immortality" which sold millions of copies. And in 2001, the group Destiny's Child re-recorded the song "Emotion" which had been a big hit for Samantha Sang in the late 1970s. Their song-writing talents are undeniable; they just weren't given another chance to shine after disco died.
Miguel Alves Absolutely agree. Put the Brothers God (Bee Gees) together with one of the best female vocalists EVER - there just isn't this perfectionism anymore, let alone control, class, and taste. One of my 3 favorite songs of the entire 1980s.
The Bee Gees wrote and produced this song, but when they turned it over to the Amazing and Talented Dion Warwick it was a song that really topped the music charts!!! Wow, I absolutely love, love, love the SONG!!
Guess the song would have fared nicely enough if released as a single by the Gibbs alone, but Dionne did take it one step further. I fondly recall this as something that thrilled me as a very young child of like 7. I, of course, had no idea who was even singing this.
I can't figure out if I'm in love with Dionne Warwick because of her voice or her looks. She has been blessed so much in both areas. That rare talent that should not be allowed to age or fade away.
The writing genius of the Bee Gees and Dionne's majestic voice combined is pure gold. It set the bar to an unreachable level

She makes song about a breakup, the most beautiful love song ever sung!!
why would anyone in their right mind dislike such a beautiful song?
Loss of taste due to the Coronavirus?
@@Defender-Guy hahaha I like that 😂😂

This World may end, Dionne, but your wonderful voice will remain...forever...🙏
@Greg Normal yes I am
@Greg Normal this one is my favourite one. But I also like "Thats what friends are for", "I say a little prayer", never gonna give you up etc. She's got an extraordinary voice indeed
1983
A diva and class act of a woman! I love her❤️🎤
Greetings from Mexico, I love what I am seeing on your profile. And i apologize for jumping into your comment in such a way. I'm really looking forward to get to know you better. If you're comfortable with it, I'd love to talk somewhere outside the UA-cam comment section. and get to know each other a bit more intimately. What do you think?
Hello Denise, how are you doing? I am a fan of this song and it so interesting to know someone like you love this song too
Dionne later admitted in an interview that she was never really fond of this song but just listen, this song and Dionnes voice is simply a magical combination they go together like Strawberries and cream
Я слушаю из Братиславы

Timeless!! She put this song over at the age of 42 . All the Beyonce's and the Swift's and the Ga ga's and the whoever's couldn't make a song this good if their lives depended on it. Period
Right on !!
1983
Gaga is very versatile. She can.
But all my respect and admiration for Dion Warrick
@@chriscornelius4214 Lady Gaga is an over hyped poor man's Annie Lennox and truthfully she's not even that. She hasn't had a hit song in years.
What a huge talent. Her singing looks as effortless and is as brilliant as Orbison’s. ❤
Nice comparison. Two of my favourites 😊
Orbison does not come close.
Wonderful comparison!
This gem appears to be, at least in part, lip-synched, so maybe a bit less effort required to perform for this video production. At 3:40 she is singing different lyrics from the audio.
Still a treasure either way and a splendid composition. Maurice Gibb regretted that they handed it over to her.
It's 2020, and still find myself listening to this song ... classic and timeless
True. Timeless
Yes
slcrawford2003 me too
It's 2322 local time and I am still listening to this song.. By the way I used to listen to it even in 1982 when I was 13 🙂

I forgot how STUNNING she looked in her 40s when the 1980s came around. Holy crap...
Yes agreed, lol
❤
How can you not love her voice and the short runs towards the end is perfect what a talent! My mom would blast this song in her Chevy Citation whenever we were out running errands when I was a kid!!
With the Bee Gees backing vocals as well.
1983
This made me smile. ❤
Same! ❤
Yep! Coming up in the late 70's and early 80's all this old school music definitely brings back the family memories:)
She always touches my heart. A classy compassion person
Hello 🤗👋
"...My love is stronger than the universe. My soul is crying for you & that cannot be reversed..." Given me goosebumps since I was a kid listening to this for the first time in 1982
Bee Gee's wrote it
I perfectly understand you
I was 15. I still feel wonderful every time I hear this song.
Oldie & Definitely a Goodie..!!
How bout that October 2024..🥃👏
Such a beautifully constructed and composed song by the Gibb brothers. Their writing was top notch!
YES SHE IS VERY BEAUTIFUL. O LIKE IT ALSO WITH THE 🌹🌹BEE GEES.♥️♥️
Their backing vocals on this were pretty good too.
@@thomasmarthinussen8978 Hi Thomas, I wasn't that taken with that song, I thought the version they did with Dionne Warwick was brilliant.
The synergism of The Bee Gees combined with Dionne Warwick could only be stellar. What a fabulous cover of this song by Dionne Warwick, a true diva! One of the greatest female vocalists. Her voice and Barry Gibbs backup vocals sound awesome together!
The Bee Gees are, undoubtedly ,amongst the greatest song writers of all time. Imo.
Is anyone listening to this today?
I am taking my 89yo mom to see Dionne in concert this month -- soooo excited, we both love her so much!
Yup x
Me loved this magic of Gibb and Warwick!❤❤
Me loved this magic of Gibb and Warwick!❤❤
this Missouri country boy is!...super written, this is a rediscovery for me.....She realizes hes gone..she asks why...she did her best.
Another Gem written by the Bee Gees
oh? what did they write?
Zariis (Official) Sounds like it is
full agreed, really a bunch of great tracks :)
Kan du svenska?
This is the epitome of 80s love songs. What a lovely woman. What a beautiful performance.
Timeless.
Its crazy how we dont have SONGS like this anymore. Tracks these days dont stand the test of time. This is a classic
I couldn't agree with you more. When music was, well, music.
Miguel Alves Absolutely agree. Put the Brothers God (Bee Gees) together with one of the best female vocalists EVER - there just isn't this perfectionism anymore, let alone control, class, and taste. One of my 3 favorite songs of the entire 1980s.
I agree
+Miguel Alves don't lose hope yet! We have Adele for today's music :D

Disagree Adele is just one artist who is still producing quality soulful songs
One of my favorite Dionne Warwick songs.

The Bee Gees wrote and produced this song, but when they turned it over to the Amazing and Talented Dion Warwick it was a song that really topped the music charts!!! Wow, I absolutely love, love, love the SONG!!
that's what the 80s decade was all about awesome classic music like this one
An excellent and unforgettable singer
This was her comeback
Guess the song would have fared nicely enough if released as a single by the Gibbs alone, but Dionne did take it one step further. I fondly recall this as something that thrilled me as a very young child of like 7. I, of course, had no idea who was even singing this.
The Bee gees composed and performed a lot of wonderful songs
I honestly believe that she has been underated such a beautiful voice
Actually she was huge for years! Look it up😊

This is a great song which stands the test of time. Dionne has a brilliant voice, you can't mistake it for anybody else.
Hello Linda, How are you doing?
So true!
Excellent Dionne❤
I can't figure out if I'm in love with Dionne Warwick because of her voice or her looks. She has been blessed so much in both areas. That rare talent that should not be allowed to age or fade away.
Makes you accept the reality that life is. Glad she is still alive to appreciate our love for her in real tym. Aging and death make you hate life
Ojalá!!! Larga vida para esta Reyna! 🐺🐾🌸
get in line bro - I think that she's damned beautifu.
She just oozes class, as she displays her X-factor. I get goosebumps listening to this lady, a world-beater for my money.
She is just like her cousin Whitney in that regard.
Dionne can do no wrong. What a friggin voice. And she’s as beautiful to look at as she sounds. ❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks You Bee Gees once again for this timeless masterpiece❤
She sings always right to my heart
Thanks Bee Gees, what a great song and singer!!
