You gotta keep making these!!! If anything we want more videos. You guys are the best thing on UA-cam for RC guys that have been in the hobby for a bit.
Great and accurate video on this model! I 100% agree on everything about this model, I used it and abused it like y’all did and found the exact issues and characteristics. Being able to fly it without any differential thrust at all definitely made hovering easier for me. Thanks, absolutely love the reviews you do on these planes!
The Twimber was made to be on floats! You are 100% right about every aspect of the twimber, that is why I put floats on it and have not looked back since!
That look and laugh at 2:36, bahaha! I feel the same about this plane...my friend pre-ordered on the hype train. It does sound badass when pushing the power.
Haha that would be interesting! Real talk, tossing two motors onto a Fun Cub would be lighter than the Twimber for sure. However, it would need other design changes to prevent the same issues the Twin Timber has that would ultimately lead to a completely different scratch built airframe. You’ve seen our building “abilities”…so I don’t think we’d do too well. 😁
I know I commented before a couple weeks ago but I tried putting the turbo timber evolution tail wing onto the twin timber and it seems to help the way the plane flies at slow speed a lot. Before it seemed like if you moved the CG back a little for stol flying the tail struggles with lift making it feel tail heavy. Now with the turbo timber rear wing i can put the first strap at the end of the battery pushing it as far back as i can and it noticeably made the plane more stable for stol flying. I am a rookie so take it at that.
Could you imagine a sports car company that won't publish horsepower and vehicle weight numbers because they think their potential customers are too stupid to understand that heavy, low horsepower cars are slow? Side note - A Ford Mockstang is an electric minivan.
12x6 or 13x4 props, 20% diff thrust, 2400-3600 SMC LIHV, and full span ailerons fix all of the issues you presented except the roll over. I agree those are all issues out of the box but they’re also very easy changes. It’s a great, unique flyer with those changes. Also great on floats without the rollover issue.
These people are just haters who have no idea to setup a transmitter for this airflcraft. It flys excellent 3DS well and the differential thrust makes for easy flat spins. People just love to complain you either don’t like how it flys or you do. Most people suck at flying anyways in my experience
I haven't nosed over on landing yet with my Twin Timber. I try to keep thrust over the wings by bumping my throttle tab up. It is a big plane, my second after the 1.1 Scout. Barely fits in the back of my Tahoe; I don't like to take the wings off my planes.
I hope you guys keep it up. I have watched a couple of other "reviews" on this same model, yours is way better. The fact you guys put these models through the wringer is a plus to me. I also enjoy that you are not afraid to take it to the edge and beyond and up to the point of failure. Keep the reviews coming, I can't wait for the next one.
I guess if I had seen this video before I bought mine, I may not have bought it. But I will say that I'm glad I did. I suppose I could set it up to do a lot more than I do. Right now I don't even use reverse thrust. But it's a good flyer and its fun.
Can I add my 2 Cents? If you change to 13x4 2-Blade props, your thrust to weigh ratio is so high that flaps are not needed for T/O, hence less nose over tendency. You can also use snap flaps. But honestly, flaps are not really needed at all on that huge wing. They create more issues than the offer benefits. This thing is high-powered, has a huge wing and will fly perfectly even with flaps set to zero or even slightly negative.
You guys really have the most entertaining channel on UA-cam! I did not see this as a negative review and always love a good mom joke. I want to sincerely thank you guys for pushing the lightness thing. I have been flying my FunCub XL on a SMC 2800HV 6s pack and it’s super lively and I easily get 7+ minute flights. I want to try the 2400s to get even lighter. I really appreciate the education and laughs every week! 👍🏻👍🏻
To each their own i guess. I grabbed one from my hobby store and its great. I am a new rc pilot so i probably dont notice some of things you’re talking about as much.
Great video as always. Just a suggestion: you've covered aerodynamics a lot, and it's great. I'm wondering if you could devote some more videos to the guts inside RC planes. The battery video was great but it could use a follow-up. And I'd really like it if you covered servos. I've noticed a funny thing in the hobby--if you ask an "experienced" RCer why they chose the servos they did, you get a lot of evasive answers. It's quite funny. I'd like to know more, but it's clear you have to be careful who you ask. I have a feeling you could shed a light on this.....ESCs, electric motors, all that stuff, but servos seem like there is huge knowledge deficit out there.
You guys kick ass. I live for the STOL. After 600 plus flights my TT evo has finally given up and I do not want another one. But my skills are very weak in the programming and set up. I want a very bushy plane that will last a long time. Please suggest my best option. Please do not stop making content. Thank you for the fun. Fly it like you STOL it. Cheers
@Jackson27mc - if you are looking to fly a legit STOL and bush capable RC plane, you'd want to get one that flies light, too. For reference, the wing cube loading of each of the planes you listed in the same order is 8.1, 9, and 8.5. The OG Fun Cub comes in at 4.2 and the Fun Cub NG comes in at 5.1. There's no comparison from a feel standpoint. 👍
As FliteTest has been sitting on a shell about 4 years its expiration date, it is great to see something new coming up. While we are at it, what about a video on Txs? I have spent about 6 months trying to figure out what I should replace my Optic 6 with and I am flying with.... OPptic6.... Anythoughts?
"You can't use reverse or differential thrust unless you have a Spektrum radio" Mostly correct... a bit pricey but there is a way. The RCLightSystems ESC Telemetry Converter will convert the proprietary SRXL-esque protocol that the Smart ESC uses into whatever your radio takes... for example it can convert it into FrSky S.Bus + S.Port so you can get the same functions, including telemetry. At 39.99 GBP each it's costly for a twin motor plane, but the good thing is they can be used with a variety of other ESCs as well, so you can move them from plane to plane. Edit: I forgot this plane has a 2in1 ESC. Maybe a single converter would do the job?
Sweet - (if it does work - per your edit). Bummer that it costs $65+ shipped, though. That's a lot of money to justify spending to use differential thrust.
@@TailHeavyProductions True. At the very least though, you also get telemetry from the ESC, which makes it a little more worth it. I have one in my E-Flite Viper.
What do you mean by single converter? I just got this plane gifted and I bought a tx16s to use it with. Been trying to set up reverse and diff. thrust.
For chill FPV off the water this is the best float plane out there. I have them all and the lack of a prop in front of you makes this awesome. Just remember to pull out that Spektrum rx and put in something that will work past a few hundred yards. She is heavy though so you've got to keep the speed up. I don't bother with the flaps -- they're just not necessary. Shame I couldn't use differential thrust or reverse power once I pull out the Spektrum, but oh well. I just wish there were a little more room inside for a flight controller.
I liked mine (this is my third plane and my first larger plane and 2 engine) and after some landing practice i rarely nose it even when coming in slow, if you just cruse it can fly for 12min but around 8 to 10 min is what i got from my 4S 5000mah battery. although I'm waiting to see if my plane will be changed under warranty since the servo for the elivator did slip out of its grove in the body because the glue had not adhere to the body witch resulted with a crash with a forest when i suddenly could not climb... before the crash i was really happy with the plane and even with the safe and A3ES on i found it not as limited as the other planes i have flown that has them on.
I would love to see you review the Ripmax Wot4 foam-e, probably the UK's best selling foam sports model. It is a foam variant of the original Chris Foss Wot4 Mk2 that was a wooden kit and has been popular for ever over here. It has a couple of flaws but they are very popular.
The Wot4 really has a strong following in the UK! I started looking into getting one somewhere in the EU, but the only stores I found that have it are based in the UK, but there are a lot of them there.
ive had one for 2 yeaars . Sadly spare parts are hard to come by now that ripmax are going into admin . Had to replace mine with a TT evo aswell which i found out is alot more chonkier than a wot4
Nailed it! Love your channel and reviews!! Keep it up fellas! Any chance you could do a mention of the hobby moving away from balsa? Gone are the days of strong, sturdy, balsa warbirds/civilian RC planes. Horizon had a great run of .60 warbirds with actual airfoils on the horizontal stabs. Would love to hear this channels leaning on this!
I'd step up to something like the E-Flite Viper 70mm or a Freewing Avanti first. Join our Discord for a great supportive community that's always willing to answer similar questions, too. Link in description. 👍
Great video! Please never stop. I have a TT Evo that I love but, and I hope this doesn’t sound petty, I don’t love all the HH advertising stickers plastered all over the plane. I feel like I’m flying a billboard for HH. If they want me to advertise for them, they can send me a free plane. At least make them removable without destroying the the trim stickers. I know the Timber series are not supposed to be scale but we can pretend.
Birds fall from the window ledge above mine, then they flap their wings at the last second. And if I don't get up, and walk across the room and peer down below, I won't see their last second curve toward a horizontal flight.
Please make a similar review on the ec1500! I don’t know why exactly but I really want one, I just want to hear the good and bad so I’m not disappointed when I finally get one.
Thanks for the twin motor video I asked for!! I really love all of the work you guys put into your content. I think you are one of if not the best rc aircraft channel out there. I already can't wait for next week!!
Hey I want you to do more with bush/stol planes. Dont care if it is timber or what ever. I am allways on the hunt for a slow flyer. Btw what glider where you towing?
Just re-watched your video on the funcub. I am getting one for sure. BTW Did you remove the motor on the easy glider for towing or did the OG come with out?
Is this your best video yet? I think it could be. Because I’m so impressed with how well you flew this turd and how well you described why it is infact a turd.
guess i should wait for the Twin Timber Evolution then :-/ was looking forwards to getting this plane at some point but i already put my TTE on its nose more often than i want it to...
Not sure if you'll see this or not, but any chance you guys will be getting the Super Timber? I would love to see your review on it. It's the first Timber I have wanted since the first UMX Timber came out.
I like whacky, but I definitely would prefer whacky *and* competent. Based off the reviews I’ve seen the Twinber doesn’t look more fun than a single motor Timber for all the points y’all said. Its weird they increased the wing area but not the tail size! Like even as an amateur engineer thats what you should do when the wing area goes up. Maybe thats all this needs to be better, barring looks I suppose 😂
I prefer my Durafly Tundra I modified to the Twindra. It is light and can land anywhere with ease as a bush plane should. I can almost buy 2 Durafly Tundra v2 PNPs for the price of one Twin Timber.
I’ve been in the market for an rc plane for a while I think im going with a turbo timber. I have a little bit of full scale time which will probably help. Im still not sure which transmitter to buy that I can use with a turbo timber and other airplanes. Any recommendations? I still need to wait a few more paychecks before I buy one.
I love the review, I think I'll just stick with my Timber X, there's no way I could deal with nosing over into the ground when you give full throttle, and how did they manage to make it 6 pounds? The Timber X is like 3 pounds and can generate about 4 lb of thrust. I like the idea that you don't have to constantly give full right aileron to hover and the counteract the torque but you gotta be able to have differential thrust on a switch because hovering with differential thrust sounds terrible. When you're hovering all you need is each prop generating half the thrust and counteracting each other's torque, rhe rudder, elevator and ailerons can do the rest.
I put the floats on from my OG Turbo Timber. The plane is so heavy the floats are just above the surface of the water. It steers great on the water with the dual rudders and differential thrust. When you land it stops quickly. The floats are made for a 3 1/2 pound plane not a 6 1/2 pounds.
We unfortunately disagree on that one. The Timber X was designed to be a bush and 3D plane. It flies neither well. It’s a classic “Jack of all trades, master of none” scenario. 3D wise, it wing rocks all over the place when flying post-stall which is not ideal for any good 3D bird. It’s also too heavy in comparison to legit 3D planes of its size. Bush flying wise, the only good thing it has going for it is the gear...before one too many firm landings leads to the gear plates breaking. Otherwise, the wing rock and higher wing cube loading than other better bush planes of the same size make it not worth it. It’s better to have one great 3D plane and one great bush plane than one plane that does both to a mediocre level.
I got my d lodged and completely stuck in the battery compartment but that clever idea didnt work to disconnect the battery also my cat kept playing with the radio and giving it throttle so my scrotum slowly but surely was getting sliced and chopped off by the prop and all the advice i got from the friendly indian guy at tech support call center was "Oh I see I understand, so have you tried turning it off then back on again?"
That thing spends so much time on it's back, they should call it the Hooker. And it blows as well. But first you have to hand over a lot of money. Just too many parallels.
If you a real beginner and want something gentle, I really recommend one of the apprentices. I started flying when I was 6 and the apprentice S 15E was my first airplane and brought me to where I am today. Now I am 14 and have many planes with my dad.
I'm not really sure why anyone would by a twin timber for aerobatics or for STOL. Modelling does have other realms that have been missing this exact design for years. Don't judge a Gold Wing by its track performance, guys, but do keep these weekend carnages coming!
From the Horizon website about the Twin Timber, "A great first-ever twin-powered, everyday *sport and STOL-capable* model for a wide range of pilots" 👍
Why do people drive in circles with a sedan? Only go to the kids school and soccer practice in a F-150? Why did people convert dirt bikes into supermotos? Why do people ride a Harley at all? Especially ones with no suspension and dumb ass clothes racks for handlebars? Why do the clowns have loud exhaust 'for safety' when they ride shirtless and no helmet?
Which is true. The capability is there, it's just not the product's main purpose. At least that's how I read the word 'capability' in ads. But never mind that, your style is priceless, don't change it!@@TailHeavyProductions
Exactly. When it comes to RC reviews, I find it a bit annoying that all models tend to be judged by their aerobatic performance, which many users don't care about at all. I bought the Twin Timber as a heavy long range camera platform with modest runway needs, and had to sit through hours of irrelevant cavorting before I found a review that actually addressed the stability characteristics I was after. I use Fun Cubs for STOL and Extras for 3D, I don't think anyone would consider a Twin Timber for that.@@toolbaggers
Disagree with this video, it's alot better than shown. Especially with stalls, nor did you ever mention the ability to fly as slow as 8 mph at high alpha + reverse flaps.
what i don't understand is why there's no 100" timber. I'd be interested in that...others are too small. 1600mm is getting there, but this one needs the motors placed lower
I got one strictly for flying FPV. It's kind of pathetic how many of my landings have ended with a closeup of the grass. I'm thinking of fiberglassing the nose.
The twinber is a fantastic plane in floats, I fly it mostly with an 5000 4s lipo or for some crusing a 8000 4s2p Liion. Edit: mine has broken nose Syndrom too

do you think the twin timber wings would bolt onto a turbo timber fuselage? a tri timber would be a chonky beast
As a newcomer, videos like this really help. Thank you.
Instead of slicing the twinber in half, you should take a fun cub and turn it into a twinber to show what a light dual engine bush plane can do
Better, as a Junkers configuration with 3 engines!
Well, apparently it’s ok if a bush plane is heavy, so I guess we lose 😂

guess i should wait for the Twin Timber Evolution then :-/ was looking forwards to getting this plane at some point but i already put my TTE on its nose more often than i want it to...
Wow good timing on my email😂
How to keep the wing of the rc plane from breaking ?(I broke the same wing twice, not in flight)It is made of balsa
Not sure if you'll see this or not, but any chance you guys will be getting the Super Timber? I would love to see your review on it. It's the first Timber I have wanted since the first UMX Timber came out.
One of my members had it and he says it’s like a drag racer with the 6s, but 50-100 dollars over priced for what he got.
All we need is a triple prop timber - The Trimber.
Can you please make a turbo timber evo bush plane build and put the twin timber springs on it they are an exact fit.
you guys should take the twin timber wing and put it on a turbo timber evo to make a tri timber !!
You guys need to do a build challenge to try and beat manufacturers for the lightest wing cube loading bushplane👀
I would love to see a video about the UMX turbo timber EVO
I put the floats on from my OG Turbo Timber. The plane is so heavy the floats are just above the surface of the water. It steers great on the water with the dual rudders and differential thrust. When you land it stops quickly. The floats are made for a 3 1/2 pound plane not a 6 1/2 pounds.
I have two Turbo Timbers and one Timber X. They need to get rid of everything but the Timber X. That is the definitive plane.
It’s better to have one great 3D plane and one great bush plane than one plane that does both to a mediocre level.
what should my first plane be?
one of the eachine warbirds they fly well can can handle mild winds well
the mustang they have is very well done and easy to learn with with safe mode on
Check out the Aeroscout or Carbon Cub 👍
Aeroscout!
It depends on what your looking for, something for the backyard, Sport Cub S2. Something good for the field? Carbon cub S2 or Aeroscout.
Me and my friend are going to billd a airplaine that can drop parishoots where 13
🔥
Wow.. Ouch! That is how I feel about Mamba 10G2...
P.S. How is Timber X BTW?
Im ur biggest fan
Bravo.thenks
I'm curious your thoughts on the Concendo flying it with a 4S 1300 (3s 1500 not near as fun)
OG Conscendo? Awesome airplane capable of fun acro and thermaling, too. Evolution? Too heavy and only really good for fun acro.
@@TailHeavyProductions - I'm on the fence between the Concendo Evolution and the ASW 17
@@grege2383 The Conscendo is more capable from an aerobatics standpoint - otherwise they'd both be about the same from a gliding standpoint.
I love that you guys are BUYING these planes and reviewing them 😎😎😎😎😎
you should buy a twimber and a timber, and combine them to make a Trimber.
What radio did you use?
DX-18QQ
Lol awesome video
so what you are saying is to buy the twimber landing gear and put it on your evo...?
😂
I wonder what a twimber wing on a regular timber would do...a trimber if you will.
Dang
I ve been getting into rc planes as a 11 year old kid and I wanted to know some beginner intermediate planes, any suggestions?
If you a real beginner and want something gentle, I really recommend one of the apprentices. I started flying when I was 6 and the apprentice S 15E was my first airplane and brought me to where I am today. Now I am 14 and have many planes with my dad.
For a beginner I would suggest the aeroscout or apprentice. Then move into something like the T28 or Valiant.
Awesome! Grab an Aeroscout or Carbon Cub 👍
Thank you for the great advice and demonstration. I definitely don’t want to buy an RC plane that’s like my mom 😉
Grate😁👍🏼
Great! I would love to see the face of the big rc companies when they see a review from you..😁
One of the funniest and most accurate reviews yet.
oh wow 1 minute ago anyways i love the par 8 eds on it
Can you make a review of HOBBYZONE Aeroscout?
Disagree with this video, it's alot better than shown. Especially with stalls, nor did you ever mention the ability to fly as slow as 8 mph at high alpha + reverse flaps.
Can you do a plane that is good for dropping things
4:49 “The Twimber is Thicc.”
4 engine Timber biplane please.
what i don't understand is why there's no 100" timber. I'd be interested in that...others are too small. 1600mm is getting there, but this one needs the motors placed lower
Placed lower and if not they needed much more up thrust.
I got one strictly for flying FPV.
It's kind of pathetic how many of my landings have ended with a closeup of the grass.
I'm thinking of fiberglassing the nose.
😥
I taped my nose over heavily even before the first flight...
The twinber is a fantastic plane in floats, I fly it mostly with an 5000 4s lipo or for some crusing a 8000 4s2p Liion.
Edit: mine has broken nose Syndrom too
