I certainly hope I do! 🤣 But I'm sure I understand how you mean this, and yes - I do hope it's possible to demonstrate that we don't all need to be winning Golden Demon to have a good time with brush and paint.

Wow I love it. I built two five man space Wolf squads with my box of these guys, but now I think I want to buy another! I would definitely make five Imperial Fists and five Salamanders. Thanks again for another awesome video.
Another amazing tutorial. I love these older marine kits for their lack of extra junk and details all over the model, making quick paintjobs a possibility.
You can get it down to 10 minutes (or faster) per model: prime, base coat colors, after that cover the model in streaking grime and then use a cotton swab plus mineral spirits. This automatically creates shadows and battle grunge at the same time.
I thought you were going to use Aly's Magic Wash when I saw the pot, but still glad it is Marine Juice, as I was looking through old videos to find the other wash I had wanted to create in my spare time. Still nice work, it reminded me a lot of the Republic Grenadiers painted back a while ago, only with warmer metals.
you are back in action! i hope you are feeling ok my internet friend my status here is going to buy the last 20 guardsmen and paint em up in your scheme and that will make 100 of them! i really hope your grief passes in time
Very impressive. Being on the Internet I need to be picky 🙀 and say the only change I would make is to spray the varnish THEN add the Necron compound to give a gloss shine rather than a lighter colour on the edge.
This method looks very solid and the marine juice is a fantastic idea. If you have access to an airbrush I think this method can be sped up by only using that for spraying rather than switching between rattle cans. I also have had great success using white artist ink rather than a white paint and on a similar note a yellow artist ink will be slightly more translucent and increase the effect of the zenithal undercoat.
For a really dark metallic black, try Model Master Acrylic "Gun Metal". It is a slightly, bluish metallic black; very close to the color that results from the chemical process known as "Blueing" used on real firearms.
Just that little hint of the red warmth really adds a lot to just about anything, and it's not so bright that it doesn't work over blue or red as well.
The trouble is with Dark Angels it's just black armour with silver trim - I've done that a few times before! 😅 Either the Deathwatch or more recent Sisters of Battle videos might provide some useful insights.
fantastic results. As someone who has always painted in the edge highlighting methods which are currently very popular with gw, Ive always been nervous at attempting a more 'gritty' style of painting. With the forthcoming 30k starter set I have been toying with using a more weathered style of painting to differentiate it from my 40k usual fare...Im going to definitely try this method....Ive also just got three pots of stuff from my stock here and will be mixing up 3 pots of marine juice...it looks great....fingers crossed!
This looks awesome it's got that weathering and I certainly can't think of a quicker way to paint them. The only way to go quick may be to go iron hands!
Great work. I’ve got all of the IF character models, with the exception of Dorn. I’m always looking for good yellow schemes. In the past I’ve used a tan of bone colored base with a Lamenter’s Yellow glaze. Since that’s not an option anymore I really like using yellow acrylic ink. Thanks!
I too also find the idea of using iron warriors on my sons of dorn repulsive Sonic! Personally i paint mine much the same i just do the armour different. Averland sunset spray followed by drybrush of Hexos palesun (its literally flash gitz yellow dried out if you don't have it) followed by cassandora yellow wash. Then i just fill in other details and when i wash the trim with agrax earthshade i sometimes draw a bit down onto the panels to simulate grime which adds interest without any actual work XD I've also found screamer pink to be an excellent accent colour for sword hilt wraps, oaths of the moment etc.
Pretty impressive... I am severely tempeted to try it out myself (Imperial Fist are so much not my chapter :-) ) ; and I thank you for the recipe of "Marine Juice"
I'm still having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that this paint job only takes 30 minutes per model! Love the grimy look of it, might have to see if I can steal this method for my 40k Iron Hands army.
It's worth a shot, I guess! I've got the primer so it's much faster to just spritz that over the top than apply Contrast, but there's no reason a different yellow wouldn't work.
I'd use the Ultramarine Blue from Army Painter over the zenithal prime like I've done here since it's lighter than Macragge Blue, then gold trim to taste with Retributor Armour - unless you've got a gold colour that covers better which you like, then use that. Otherwise more or less the same. The method will work for almost all the Legions.
Much the same! With the bigger panels you're probably going to want to gloss varnish the vehicle before applying the wash, so you can go mad with it in the same way but it'll prevent it from pooling over flat surfaces.
I can't think of a faster way, but a quick extra bit of battle damage could be similarly sponging on some boltgun metal to black casing of the gun & chainsword! can't imagine it would add too much time on and could add on some extra stuff? before I buy any marines I'm definitely going to make up a big pot of marine juice tho! pure magic :D

Nice tutorial . How would you rate the Army Painter rattle cans ? Over the years I have seen people mention having difficulties with them , the spray coming out too thick or the paint being grainy and dusty after it has dried on the model .
The only ones I've routinely had any issue with is Desert Yellow. That one does always seem quite thick, but you can still use it perfectly well if you're careful and methodical in how you apply it. Otherwise they're a little sensitive to temperature and humidity, but otherwise I've never had a problem with their cans. You do see occasionally ones that arrive burst or don't seem to last long but at least I can say it's never happened to me.
Great video. Question about the marine juice. I have the army painter equivalent washes /shades (dark, flesh, wash medium). would we get similar results using that?

All I do is tuck a can of primer under my arm for about ten minutes before priming to bring it up to a comfortable temperature, and with yellow you always lay down a thin coat of white primer first. As long as you're not jamming on the nozzle and laying it on thick, it should be fine.
At some point, I'm sure. Night Lords are one of those Legions where everybody's got their own vision of how they should look, so someone in my position always runs the risk of getting it 'wrong.' XD Bit of a minefield!

Nah, part of the look is in leaving some of the black recesses intact under the armour panels and such. You don't need a 100% perfect yellow coverage for it to work.
I wouldn't think so. They're very different paints, for a start, and Basilicanum Grey isn't going to be as dark as you'd need to get the same shading effect. You could mix a little up and give it a shot on a spare piece you've basecoated to see if it will give you a similar result, but it's different colours and different binder and pigments involved - I would be surprised if it came out the way you'd like.
Hey Sonic, sorry for the newbie question, but I bought Agrax Earthshade, and it turned out to make a disaster of my miniature. Besides the mistakes due to my own lack of skill, it also turned out to be very glossy... but I bought the flat version, or that's what the label says, and my lack of skill couldn´t have caused that. Has it ever happened to you? Or anyone else here? Thanks! (I put so much effort in this mini.... @#$%&)
If it turns out glossy, it's possible you've gotten one of the mislabeled Agrax Gloss packs that went out a little while back. There was a pretty huge batch with the wrong labels on! Otherwise, another reason you might get a gloss finish can be if it's not shaken up enough prior to using it, but if it's a *really* glossy finish, chances are good you've just had some bad luck and gotten the gloss version. A quick spray of a matt varnish over the top of the miniature once you're finished with other details will take care of that, no problem.
@@SonicSledgehammerStudio well, I did some experimentation with the 4 shades I had purchased, incuded the Agrax. I tested them without and with shaking. All of them turned up glossy without having shaked them, and all except the Agrax turned out very flat after having shaken them.
