For the next episode in my Grimdark Marines series, It's time for the Sons of Dorn to receive the Grimdark treatment.....
Yellow is never an easy colour to paint in the Grimdark style but in this video I'll show you my recipe for yellow and how to weather it!

It's fantastic, and I totally have to see the Dark Angels at some point, both the regular marines and the terminators, can't wait to see how you do those!
Dark Angels have probably been my next most requested Chapter so far, I am sure they'll feature in the future 😉
This paint scheme really makes me want to do a 30k Dornian heresy imperial fists army.
And I don't even play Warhammer any more
Haha I would apologise but I think this is great! To be honest a 30k Fists army would also allow me to get away with doing an army of these guys without feeling bad for starting a new project!

Ive been painting and stripping my space marines army for 5 years. Never could decide on a scheme i liked. Jumped from ultras to fists to blood angels… went through liters and liters of IPA stripping models hundreds of times.

I'm here from your post on GrimDarkComunity on Facebook, the painting is awesome but I absolutely love the conversion such a simple weapon swap but looks perfect and totally fits with the IF theme.
Thanks Neil! As you may have noticed a love a small little conversion or kitbash if it helps fit the theme. The Imperial Fist just didn't feel right with a Plasma Pistol!

Metallics are 100% on the cards, got a couple of good potential options and I am currently trying to source the parts for one of them 😉

Really like the final result you've achieved here! I think I'd like to achieve a similar result with a colder grey for the space wolves project I'm working on. Not a big fan of the blue grey armor we usually end up with 😊
Thankyou! To be honest most of these techniques will work well with the colder grey.
I have done a Space Wolf tutorial but it is with more of a blue grey colour
I may go and make an Imperial Fists kill team in the future, and I will want them to look like they've been holding the line in an urban battle for a while. This will help immensely.
As for what you could do next, you have yet to tackle blue or green in this style. As my main Marine army is Ultramarines, I'd prefer you go for blue firs, but honestly, any of those two would be cool, you decide.
Yeah after doing this one I am kinda considering an Imperial Fists kill team myself!
It may pain me too much to do Ultramarines but a green army will definitely need to be done. Probably Dark Angels or Salamanders!

Thankyou, I don't currently use a Spray booth as I have decent ventilation where I work but I do always use a mask, especially when using enamels

For the next imperial fist , good idea. what is the figure ?
How to paint Imperial Fists...well, I would suggest a rattle can prime, and then a rattle can yellow. after that, paint the details like a normal model.
Brilliant grimdark effect. Seems to me like the key step for this is the panelliner airbrush. I've never airbrushed enamel paints, do you thin them? Would it be possible to get this effect with a regular brush?
Thankyou! The panelliner is definitely what brings it all together. The panelliner is pretty thin already so does not require any thinning and also makes using a standard brush much tougher as it tends to do the job that it is originally designed for and runs into the recesses.
By airbrushing it causes it to build up slowly instead which allows this method of use.
Hey, quick question, would you recommend using overbrushing (basically just drybrushing but with more paint) as a replacement for the airbrushed yellow armor base?
Overbrushing would potentially work but you could just layer the base coats on. As the weathering steps do most of your recess shading etc that should do the trick for you!

Turnip 28? I have actually been having a little look at that recently, they use a lot of textures that could be very fun!

@@MrJoshuakirk85 definitely agreed! I love the AoS28 and Inq28 stuff and the turnip28 is just a further extension of that. May have to try and source some napoleonic minis!
idk if it's me but after he does the pigments or shrieking grime step the models he does look almost cloudy or dusty like the have a layer of dust on them.
With the pigments that's definitely the aim!
How does the paneliner for brown and green compare with the regular streaking grime? And could it be used on a darker scheme like black or dark grey? My local shops don't have any streaking grime available sadly.
So it is a little different to the regular streaking grime in that it is a bit thinner and much less of a green tone. Personally I actually prefer it quite a lot as it desaturates colours and adds in some nice shadows without really tinting or adding in any additional colours. To be entirely honest I actually rarely use the standard Streaking Grime any more!
