this is the single greatest warhammer infantry tutorial video I have ever seen. most ppl focus on things becoming drab but this doesn't do that, so I don't feel your hesitation rub off on me
seriously appreciate it - i want to keep things as simple and repeatable as possible and help people finish armies where many painting videos just show you how to paint a single model -
I recently decided Im jumping ship from 40k and I've realized Im really enjoying how veteran alot of Horus Heresy painters are. You are no exception! Thank you for being so informative!
Absolutely man. Ive been painting warhammer since 95' and switched to Heresy in 2015 when Betrayal at Calth came out. While I do miss some of the Xenos armies of 40k, I don't even recognize what the space marines have become. The fiction too is all over the place. What Heresy Legions are you considering?
At first I thought that this method was just too involved...then I realized that you are going to be playing with this army for years, so they deserve the time you put into them.

I hope you keep growing. I’ve seen the campaign videos to my WH group and it’s nothing but positive feedback. Good to see so much passion

I am loving the way you do your tutorials. It feels no nonsense and easy to follow! The only question I have is where you got that amazing soundtrack, I love the theme and would love to listen to it on its own
I really want to do some EC after the Cthonia Campaign. I actually went on a work trip and took a little bag of paints and like 50 bolters. Painted all of them EC. So my tac squads should be able to get done really fast when i finally get to them.
its pretty straight forward. Black under coat, Vallejo Game Air Bone White, Then Vallejo Air White. Then i wash the models with GW seraphim Sepia, Sponge weather Dryad bark, and then the rest is pretty similar to the IF. Ill have a DG painting guide up in the next few weeks. Its for a Typhon but I can add a tac marine in as an infantry example.
Ok i'm stealing your recipe for Imperial fists, they look amazing and cant wait to see how you do the other legions and cant wait for the Siege of Cthonia
its a really easy recipe - let me know if you have any questions when you start. Still a few more imperial fists videos and then im shifting to some of the other factions at the Siege of Cthonia.
I haven't done the first legion yet, but likely will do a guide sooner than later on them. I need a squad or two for filming purposes for the closing part of the Siege of Cthonia Campaign. Are there any units in particular you would want to see painted?
@@heresyerawell, since you’re doing the Siege of Cthonia, how about Dreadwing units? I’m not gonna say go get some Interemptors, but their color scheme on some MkIII heavy support squads would be nice
any brush slips when doing the black trim, i touch up with Ushabti bone. I later do a sponge weather with ushabti bone, which will visually absorb those touch ups.
Man I just started solar auxilia and your videos make me wondering if another legion shouldn't be next (already playing Thousand Sons). Super excited for the campaign
I love solar aux. I have a decent sized Cthonian Headhunter army with the old resins. i have a few boxes of unbuilt new plastics here. Trying to decide on a loyalist cohort.
@@heresyera Personnaly I did a custom one on military green but I understand you would go for a known one for your videos. Why not do the one allied to the Imperial Fists?
Love your work mate, its a shame you didnt show some Vallejo or other quality brands instead of citidel, I do feel nowadays majority of their paints are not worth their value. They do have really nice washes etc but I feel brands like Vallejo or APF recent paint ranges are miles ahead. Do you use oils ever for some quality weathering? Subbed :)
Thank you. I love vallejo paint. I use GW mostly out of habit and due to its availability. Vallejo Air and their metallics are excellent. Them being in droppers also makes your paint last soooo much longer. I dont Oil my infantry, just my tanks. You can see them being used in the Painting tanks video i dropped last week - if you havent seen it already.
I paint and write the videos and pipe my script through a AI VO. I don't use my voice on the painting guides because its a ton of work to paint, write, film, and edit already and adding on VO recording, mixing and the complexity of performance, it would slow down my release cadence tremendously. I want to drop at least 1x painting guide a week and eliminating using my own VO is the path to that. In the battle reports, we obviously will be using our voices as that is live action.
Does the yellow airbrush over white base work on basically any model? I want to try doing Imperial Fist color scheme for a Battlemech from Battletech but I don't trust myself to brush paint them yellow.
absolutely. I use wraithbone which is actually a creamy off white. It makes my yellows warmer. You can use straight white, but you will have a colder yellow.
SOH and NL are two of my favorite armies. Hopefully some of my guides can help you get them done. I have some SOH painting guides coming down the pipeline.
@@heresyeraI also want to do a loyalists Thousand Sons where they went back to the old legion symbol and colors with Inductii. I did buy some cool bits for marines and armor to do it off of cults. We'll see lol.
When priming with wraithbone, did you have a tough time getting 100% coverage? I have some grey spots in cracks and crevices. Im worried qbout my priming layer being too heavy
i usually do a layer front and back with them standing upright - then after that dries, i lay the model down with the face up and spray the undersides , then repeat for the backside - if u have a tiny amount of grey on the undersides you’ll be Ok - but closer to full coverage the better
Im going to eventually do all the legions. Right now I am starting with the Siege of Cthonia associated legions and then will branch out further after that campaign. So its Imperial Fists, Thousand Sons, Sisters of Silence, Raven Guard, Iron Hands, Alpha legion and Word Bearers on the slate. You can paint imperial fists! yellow isnt as hard as people make it out to be.
After I get all of the arms glued on the marines, I can then mix the weapons up. A few of them are very easy to identify which arms they go on, and the others can easily be identified by dry fitting them. I dry fit them all after painting and match the weapons up to the correct marines. I make sure to dry fit the entire squad and pair all weapons before I do any gluing.
@@heresyera cool. I'm hoping to magnetize mine at the right shoulder like I used to on first born marines. It was easy to keep the arms of first born separate cause the detail was different from each arm set to another. But I'm still learning these kits. It's a challenge to keep anything straight after I clipped 100 marines for mold line cleanup
