Nearly 5 straight minutes of nightmare fuel. A perfect sequence. Side note: Why does a movie from 2005 have better effects and CGI then about half the movies I see in 2023?
It’s because CGI artists don’t have a union in Hollywood like writers or prop makers so they get put through the wringer to churn out effects shots that end up looking fake because they’re overworked and underpaid.
@@MasonBryant No, it doesn't. The employees in the CGI industry are simply given way to little time by the executives to actually use their skills to the highest extent. @@jonaz7312He's not completely wrong, woke people make bad scenes, bad scenes have to be redone and the CGI guys have less time to polish everything up.
Jack Black going berserk is absolutely relatable. The one thing that is guaranteed to overtake fear is rage. I remember there was a time I was cooking and all of a sudden a swarm of roaches interrupted me and went crazy flying all over the kitchen, and I have a paralyzing fear of roaches. I was alone too so no one would be able to help me. But what happened after was that I went ham with the bug spray, flip flops, and opened all the cabinets and hunted a good few of them down with all the tools I could pick up. I'm sure everybody goes through that one 'fuck it and fuck all of you' moment in their life at least once
I went through something similar years ago. But for me, it was ants (the little black ones). I just took one look at my oven and I was both scared and livid; the little bastards were crawling all over the oven! I had no idea why, the whole thing was clean! I had to use probably a whole roll of paper towels and Raid to clear them all away!
Perfectly understandable, I occasionally get the fear reaction if I see a roach in my car while driving, but if I see it in my house that guy had better start praying because I never outburst my anger unless I see a roach and that mfker aint leaving alive
I've had it when a dog attacked once. Big fucker. Mastino/Malamute mix. I love dogs, but I felt some serious rage. Didn't care a lick if he'd bite me or not. You borderline get superpowers when you're that mad. You get so fast, so strong, you don't feel any fear or pain, and it's like your perception and reaction time goes up tenfold. Adrenaline is a super serum.
This scene absolutely scarred me. I literally just clicked on the video to see the comments. I can't even bring myself to click play on the video after all these years.
This scene is terrifying, but remember a fun fact: it could have been way worse. There was no blood here, and did not see anyone tore apart. They could have made this so much more graphic and gory
Apparently for this scene, they told the actors "The is the scenario, go crazy, and we will fill in the motions". So i believe what we see here, are the actors genuinely expressing themselves in character in that moment. Edit: It seems there are some who don't quite understand what I meant.
I know people critique the film for its length, particularly stemming from the first maybe 30 to 45 minutes while they’re in New York and out at sea, but to me, it really adds to the tone of the film and properly introducing the characters for the most part. Particularly contributing to the suspenseful buildup of them venturing towards the unknown, and the impact of what is found on the island is just as significant to the on screen characters, as it is to the audience watching. I also just love how cool they made New York look from the time era they were portraying, which looked like the 1920’s to 1930’s. We also don’t see Jack Black take on too many roles like this, if ever. So it was a real treat to see his range as an actor, which to me, was an exceptional performance done by him. I just love this film so much, and the video game based on the movie is also a hidden gem.
Ironically the only parts I like of the story is everything from the boat to when they leave the island. It's a golden blueprint really, horror/action in a fictional "forgotten island/hidden ecosystem" that allows you to have dinosaurs and what not with the cast trying to push through it. If only the Jurassic Park movies were more like the novel, and kept a horror theme.
They had to make JP for kids/families...But the original trilogy still had some creepy moments. King Kong didn't really have to aim towards kids or families like that
In my opinion the best scene in this movie. There are so many really great scenes in this movie but for turning a action adventure film so far into a horror movie for a short few mins they did so well, the creatures react and move so well, it so scary how they seemingly fell into a empty pit/cave then they start to hear the putter patter of tiny not so tiny feet and appendages hitting the ground jumping from wall to wall, all working against each other but working together to get there meal, they move robotically, like they are programmed for these situations, god how horrifying
As someone who loves horror, scenes like these in movies is why I love macrophotography so much. You underestimate just how terribly real the world beneath your feet really is.
I imagine that Jack would have had severe PTSD from this experience. But he did it all for Ann. Both Jack and Ann would have needed some major therapy after the events of this movie.
Man this movie was incredible but I would honestly like to see an R rated version of the Kong story, very gritty and realistic, have horror aspects to it, imagine this film but R rated, my gosh it would be a nightmare lmao
You could tell Peter Jackson was a huge fan of the original film, given that 2 moments in his remake (the Brontosaurus Stampede and the Bug Chasm) were based on scenes that were cut from the OG and have since been lost. As part of a bonus feature he even recreated the lost Bug Chasm scene using same or similar techniques that the original movie used back then.
@@pempotfoy6206 yep, but it was deleted before release and the footage was lost. Peter Jackson remade the scene using the same technology and techniques used in 1933. AFAIK he refuses to allow it to be edited into the 1933 film out of respect for the original filmmakers.

3:04 Ngl, THIS death, quick or not, terrified me in the theater. You never see anything of the clearly gigantic insect save that one mandible, but you know it can move with terrifying speed, and if you're near an open hole in the chasm that thing could snatch you next. In a heartbeat. The leechescare awful, but nothing compared to the dread THIS thing generates.
It's actually a giant crab called Deplector! The females will hide in caves and stick themselves in with a glue-like substance, and will grab whatever goes near the pit. Pretty scary.
This scene is much better than 99% of current horror movies, a movie with a good script, serious, entertaining and spectacular, and you know what? The death of the characters is taken seriously, it seems ridiculous to mark this, but in today's cinema if someone dies it must be done without blood and jokes at the end so that what could have been a good moment is lost, that is really sad, visually better than all current marvel products.
Andy Serkis(eaten alive by worms) is legendary. He asked specifically the director to give him a very memorable and terrifying death scene. And he did. Being eaten alive like that is bloodcurlingly scary.

This is almost 20 years old and has better CGI than some movies coming out today
Dunno but wokeness probably has something to do with it.
@@MasonBryant No, it doesn't. The employees in the CGI industry are simply given way to little time by the executives to actually use their skills to the highest extent. It has been this way since the early 2010s. That's why for example davy jones still looks better than what marvel is putting out. Combine a unrealistic deadline with overtime and a horrible work enviroment and you get bad CGI.
But sure "wOkEnEsS" is the problem.
@@jonaz7312He's not completely wrong, woke people make bad scenes, bad scenes have to be redone and the CGI guys have less time to polish everything up.
The terrible doctor strange eye
The game version was even worse traumatize me into phobia of insects. Especially the centipede in it. That game was skyrim before skyrim
@@SinarBaru-bp4jx The game was so scary as a kid. Always waited when my dad was home to play lol

If they did, it probably would’ve been R rated
At 4:18 you see someone getting tossed around and then torn apart in the distance.
Leaving things to the imagination can be just as effective. Nothing more terrifying than being digested slowly allive by a giant worm.
This is R-Rated Lite, it has everything that would make it a truly horrific scene, but without any of the gore.

I thought the New York sequence was perfect.
King Kong didn't really have to aim towards kids or families like that
I remember seeing this movie in theaters, and this scene still haunts my memories to this day.
It's so weird seeing this in 4K. It looks sooo good.
As someone who loves horror, scenes like these in movies is why I love macrophotography so much. You underestimate just how terribly real the world beneath your feet really is.
Peter Jackson flexed his horror movie credentials in this scene. The worms still creep me out.
As someone whose deeply scared of cockroach and almost any insect/arthropode, this scene gave me nightmare fuel for days
I imagine that Jack would have had severe PTSD from this experience. But he did it all for Ann. Both Jack and Ann would have needed some major therapy after the events of this movie.

This movie is still classic and the best of 2005
