@@shiladityaacharya In his first appearance in his self-titled movie from 1954, Rodan is explicitly stated to fly in excess of Mach 2. I couldn't find an official statement of the Monsterverse version's top speed, but catching jet aircraft is no stretch from the precedents.

This is one of my favorite scenes in the entire film. Also, does anyone notice the waterspouts at the 2:14 mark that are caused by and obviously apart of Ghidorah's storm? Goodness, the amount of power Ghidorah has is insane. I know I'm stating the obvious concerning Ghidorah's cataclysmic power and abilities, but it still blows my mind. As was made clear in the film, Ghidorah is a living extinction event (typhoons, hurricanes (category 6 included), and any other form of storms) who, if left unchecked, would've permanently terraformed the entire Earth to his liking by spreading his superstorms all over the planet until it's completely covered in a perpetual, apocalyptic nightmare.
I feel like, unlike most monster movies, these creatures actually have brains and dont just run around roaring and destroying everything. Also I love Rodan's move at 1:57
Rodan: "A challenge? Our battle, my victory, and your death, will be legendary!" King Ghidora: "Hold my beer, all 3 of them... Burning Godzilla: "Allow me to introduce myself..."

@@revilily9922 yeah, and that shape helped him go supersonic. The monster's size makes it look slower. In order to go as high as he did as fast as he did, you'd need to at least be going probably 1200 mph. He rose at least a few thousand (probably closer to 10k) feet in one second.
The explosive flash and thunder when he did that makes me think he has some sort of internal thermal propulsion, probably out the burning edge of his wings, that kicked in hard when he went straight up.
@@angryboi595 I think Rodan may have been the alpha Titan of its own ecosystem. As Godzilla was master of the oceans, Rodan ruled the skies. If so, it would have viewed that alien dragon as a challenger.
Rodan while portrayed as a Villain here is more interesting than the surface level observation. He really only attacks because the humans attacked him first, which while obvious just says "Oh what are these smaller flying things?" and not "Who dares awaken me" Michael Dougherty is Amazing, the Love and Care put into this movie is so evident
The flashes of news articles shown during the credits stated that Rodan was quite peaceful after Ghidorah was out of the picture. He even became a tourist attraction. But if I woke up to find my door had been boarded up, and after smashing it open a flock of sparrows threw firecrackers at me, I'd be pissed too.
Dear god this scene was perfect. From the incredible monsters, the s-tier sound design, to the absolutely banger OSTs done by Bear McCreary. This movie was just so awesome
You know what made me terrified of Rodan in this scene? Not necessarily its size, but its intelligence. It's killing the jet squad either one by one or a few at once according to its position relative to the nearest jets, and finishes off by simply rolls to quickly kill the last half of the jet squadron.
These movies make plain that the kaiju, or "Titans," are not just big animals. They all have human or near-human level intelligence. They can think tactically, assess and improvise. But they still fight using animal techniques. That makes it hard for humans trained to fight other humans to anticipate what they'll do.
Stills boggles my mind that it was written into the script that Rodan would be stupid enough to fly right into King Ghidorah. Like he wouldn’t know that KG was in the distance.
i think cocky does fit the bill. seeing as how panicked everyone was when he chased them (you can also see the smirk he gave before flicking one of the guys off) he was caught unawares of what was in front of him since they were flying away from him. if he was the threat they were trying to fly away from, would he assume that there might be a bigger danger, beside him, ahead? i don't think so.
I've noticed in this movie franchise, whenever a monster has a trick up their sleeve, they always smile at the camera. Godzilla also always goes "Gwa ha ha ha!" before going Super Saiyan.
They showed a lot of confidence turning back to confront Rodan. That didn't last long, though. No modern human had seen Rodan in action before, and those pilots were totally unprepared for what they were up against. To be fair, no pilot in the world was trained to fight that.
Why there isnt a fighter jet game where you fight against this kind of shit, just imaginé battling against dragons, giant monsters, aliens, angels and shit like that while piloting a fighter jet shock full of weapons
You just know that the objective would be to delay and basically survive for just about every mission. Don't get me wrong I'm right there with you I'd want to play it too, but in truth you would be hard pressed to do anything in an lasting meaningful way.
They did a magnificent job on the monsters in this movie. They're majestic and frightening at the same time. Especially when they stretch out their feet to grab something or someone. The fight scenes between the monsters are awesome! Love this movie
No, it belongs in obscurity. Terrible entry in the franchise. Actually does more harm than good for Godzilla’s character and gives us the bare minimum of monster action.
@@Legendary_jabari I know it feels like it, but remember what was happening during those fights. Every monster fight in the film is interrupted by some unnecessary character drama, usually involving an aerial vehicle. Also, since Im currently editing a review for this movie, let me give you the accurate screen time for the monster fights. GvKG in Antarctica - 1 minute 18 seconds KGvR in Mexico - 15 seconds GvKG in ocean - 48 seconds KG+R vs the military in DC - 16 seconds Thats as far along as I am but thats every monster fight up to the finale. I wished they had given 1 of them some plot armor, although they are seriously over powered, i kinda hate how fighter pilots in every monster movie are being thrown out like a rag doll
i never saw this movie so I’m not sure how effective missiles are to this thing but if it makes you feel better the F-22 would have no trouble hitting a target that big from miles and miles away without that thing able to determine where they are being fired from.
@Luke Wilson Those F-35s are armed mostly with Sidewinders and AMRAAMs, AGM-88 HARM is designed specifically to lock on and destroy enemy radar, hence why it is called an "Anti radiation missile", also HARM isn't that powerful, there's better air to ground ordnance. Take the mavericks for example.
The fact that that monster held its own against the military and the other monster really shows how tough the writers made the monsters . Wow. Incredible.
yeah because the US military Administration here had an iq of -60 lmfao in reality im pretty sure they would have better ideas than deploying several f-35 and a big mother plane right next to a missile proof bird

Insane detail 😩🔥
2:23 this dude really just tried to eject at apparently supersonic speed while directly in front of a massive conventional weapons-proof bird. absolute genius right here guys
The pilot might very well have panicked, but it probably wouldn't have made much difference. Fighter pilot training has never covered what to do when something that big, that fast, and that maneuverable, is riding your tail.
He could have very easily just went down (far enough to avoid the creature!), dropped some speed, and been behind the enemy in an ideal position to fire at it. The pilot could have also went up and done the same thing, or just _not_ ejected.
Brendan Sousa hell yea! I used to remover saying they though Rodan was gonna die and I said “Nah Rodan only dies if he wants to sacrifice himself otherwise he’s too angry to die”
Hey, not Rodan's fault. He barely woke up after being bottled in a volcano, then these gnats start shooting firecrackers at him. Anyone would be pissed.
As awesome as Godzilla vs Kong was. I think there was one thing that was missing, and it was the “grand” feeling. There are so many shots in this movie that are from the perspective of the humans and near the ground, it makes the kaiju feel bigger and more intimidating!
@@Niyo833 you’re smoking crack if you think a bird can go 1200 mph. Look up how fast the the fastest bird on earth is. It’s nothing close to 1200 and that bird is way more streamlined
I gotta say, this movie really sells how much impact the monsters have on normal human infrastructure, from crumbling lego buildings, to this example of Rodan flapping his wings hard enough to create trailing winds strong enough to blow over most vehicles, It really gives the sense that these monsters are colossal in scale and unrivaled in destructive potential, and that is something I think everyone can appreciate (hopefully)
Like in the first Legendary Monsterverse movie when Godzilla came ashore in Hawaii, we've seen that these Titans can cause human-scale devastation without intending to, just by normally moving around.
Love the extra touch of Isla Del Mara getting swept up in a fiery wind as Rodan flies over. One of the ways the movie demonstrates just how absurdly powerful these creatures are.
Which critics are shouting "too many monsters"? I'm genuinely curious as the only ones I've found so far complain about the opposite: not enough monster scenes, too many involving human characters no one cares about.

Idk why but I love the short moment when the 4 jets turn around and fire their missiles. Also, when they hit Rodan and he actually feels pain, he realizes that these are threats, needed to be taken out. He doesn't kill them for the sake of it. That's why the town got mostly spared.
I adore the Rodan's personality, wich is like that of menancing and dangerous beast, but you see him abnd you find his expressions and his way of being a funny giant bird, he has part of naughty and rebellious
As the news articles montaged through the movie's credits pointed out, Rodan isn't especially aggressive if he's left in peace. He didn't hurt anyone until humans started shooting at him. Of course they had good reason to, but from Rodan's perspective the annoying little bugs had it coming.
Since we know we'll be getting another Monsterverse Mothra (an egg was reported found, and we know what that means), I think evolving the relationship between Mothra and Rodan could make for an interesting move.
This movie is so underrated, I remember seeing it on premiere night and checking the box office numbers for weeks after and being mind blown that the numbers weren’t higher, and yet somehow Godzilla vs Kong did so much better and got so much more social media buzz when it came out on streaming services during covid. This was the best movie in the Godzilla monster verse so far and I hope any movies they make relating to this franchise going forward are done like this one and not like Godzilla vs Kong where more than half the movie was humans interacting with each other. They made the same mistake transformers did after the first film and started focusing on the humans rather than the monsters/transformers. This movie is essentially what transformers 1 was to the transformers franchise.
they did a really good job of making rodan seem like an actual threat because i remember back in the day watching godzilla being like bro its just a flying bird but here hes like straight up destroying houses with just flaps of his wings
That's the scary part. None of these monsters would be stopped by just us. That's what Godzilla is so crucial because he's obviously the only one who can stop them
Its actually pretty silly, the formations at those speeds plus the G force from turning is beyond human control. Ah, yes, the usual "no matter how advanced the fighter jets are, they need to approach the monster at 500m alt, launch their advanced missles from 200m and then fight between the monster's legs, conveniently to be hit or crushed" trope. Also, one of the most advanced and maneuverable fighter jet of the day, cannot detect an enemy just behind them (WW2 planes had that) and cannot maneuver to get out of the monster's way...

I think this is the best sky battle scene we will ever see
Its more of a chase than a battle, but I get the point.
It was certainly spectacular, and unlike anything we've ever seen before.
Yea and the jet scene from skyline is also pretty cool legit the best thing in the damn movie
yeah
Love the extra touch of Isla Del Mara getting swept up in a fiery wind as Rodan flies over. One of the ways the movie demonstrates just how absurdly powerful these creatures are.
That scene where people are throw up in the air was quite astonishing.
So a movie called “GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS” was flamed for having too much monsters? What?
😂😂😂 it's an evil world we live in
Critics were like, " To much Monsters goddammit!!!"
Bruh thats what we want lol
I m literally watching a movie named 'Godzilla: King of the monsters'
@Marc Woolward Lmfao💀
Which critics are shouting "too many monsters"? I'm genuinely curious as the only ones I've found so far complain about the opposite: not enough monster scenes, too many involving human characters no one cares about.

3:30 - 3:41 I just love this shot, it gives you really the feeling how absurdly massive and terrefying Gidorah really is 🙊
By far the biggest Titan seen so far, and he brings a literal hurricane with him wherever he flies. And you have to couple that with knowing he's actively malevolent.
@@danieldickson8591 yep he is the tallest bipedal titan being 521 feet tall with a wingspan of 1000 feet. while the second tallest is mechagodzilla at 466 feet and godzilla at third being 399 feet tall.Although he isnt the longest titan as warbat and titanus tiamat are both thousands of feet long.
Let’s make a real statement about this movie: No one cares about the humans and also no one remembers their names.

Even though he got beat 2 times Rodan’s performance was absolutely outstanding! I really love his design especially the lava/magma coming off his wings. He’s truly a fire demon and king of the skies 🔥🦅 Rodan wings look so badass in the beginning at 4:05 it’s like fire is coming out of his wings and if you pause at 4:06 that’s a really badass shot of Rodan vs Ghidorah, Rodan’s eyes are red! Looks like his eyes glow when he’s fighting or if he’s really angry.
Edit: That’s got to be a cool collision sound when both Rodan and Ghidorah charge at each other.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
He literally faced all monsters except gman and got hit by the military.
Deciduous Outdoors yeah I know I wish he would’ve gone against my g-man just for a little bit.

Why Hello There then you must need some goddamn lasic surgery. Change the Quality • Auto to (720)
Idk why but I love the short moment when the 4 jets turn around and fire their missiles.
Starscream
@@gameaddict7544 ENOUGH! He is not Starscream.
As the news articles montaged through the movie's credits pointed out, Rodan isn't especially aggressive if he's left in peace. He didn't hurt anyone until humans started shooting at him. Of course they had good reason to, but from Rodan's perspective the annoying little bugs had it coming.
3:37 was everybody expression when we watched this movie 😳🤭

Yes... For like a second I was the pilot & I was screaming... DIVE !!! This whole sequence was so well done... Good golly
Rodan was always my favorite Godzilla monster, and this was perfect. The only thing we need now is more of him in the future movies
Since we know we'll be getting another Monsterverse Mothra (an egg was reported found, and we know what that means), I think evolving the relationship between Mothra and Rodan could make for an interesting move.
@@danieldickson8591 A new Titan movie and its just a romance drama would be so fucking nuts

Rodan himself is complete enough to wipe out the entire human race from earth
That's the scary part. None of these monsters would be stopped by just us. That's what Godzilla is so crucial because he's obviously the only one who can stop them

One of the most visually appealing movies in a long time
For those of us who grew up with the original Godzilla films from the 60s and 70s, I loved how they worked the alternate name of "Monster Zero" in there.
