The CW-01 is iconic. I'm more kind of Team Lunch Box. But I don't know anyone bein addicted to this chassis who had left it in standard. So why not changhing it to an aluminum one. Now I'm interested in the whole kit to make a steet racer. For Offroad I prefeer plastic. Thanks for showing and the value informations👍 My opinion is let the front braces in place. It looks as if they protect the chassis in case of a chrash.

Sweet! I built one just yesterday with the alu chassi and the same "wheeli bar"! As you said, no problems at all. Looks realy good, but i doubt it improves performance according to the price... 🤔😎
I took it for a test spin and it felt a little more "connected" to the road, but I had also installed the rear shock mount from Option #1, which moves the rear shocks out another half-inch or so, which may have contributed to the improvement.
Looks really nice, this alu chassis! I started building my Lunchbox, sort of inspired by your video I watched, the one that came after this one... Since I bought all the parts separately, maybe I should have just got this chassis, ha ha... Anyway, it's coming together, it's good fun!

It'll be a strange thing, front is custom double wishbone, TT-02B parts. The shock adapter brackets are from an old TV. Wheels from G6-01. It'll be a proper weirdo. I paid $249,NZD for my lunchbox, and came across the aluminum chassis upgrade on Ali express! I was a bit shocked that the price was close to the same as the lunchbox

I just hate how all these kits send me screws with allen wrench holes instead of regular screw driver holes (phillips, flathead). Great video. I've been looking at these chassis as I take my LunchBox closer to full aluminum.
I think the screw choice is another way to take a vintage Tamiya and bring it into the modern realm. Most manufacturers these days are using metric hex hardware and Tamiya... Well, they do what ever the hell they want to do! Hahaha! 🍻😆
just been driving the lunch box today and thats what brought me over to this video being the same chassis type , i noticed that you have 3D printed motor backlash thingo ! lol whats that is it an upgrade or a fix ? just would like to know whats the best thing for that section of the truck axles as theres a heap of play/backlash in that area any idea's ? thanks in Advance all and PBRC.🙂

OK, I did it, swapped out the chassis, for full aluminium running gear. Suspension front arms, motor/gearbox housing, steering servo linkages, rims and tyres. I think the only original parts on my lunch box are the body, the plastic front end mount, the motor will be upgraded soon. ✌should I go brushless?
@@michaelmanger8640 if you're still running 2S, I'd lean towards a 3500 - 4000kv bl motor with the stock pinion. It'll be plenty fast and plenty torque!

That's really interesting as I'd seen this upgrade but didn't know if it was any good. For the purposes of the CW-01 speed run challenge, when does a CW-01 stop being a CW-01? You could add so many upgrades like this that it ends up being about 1% Tamiya 😂 Anyway I might just pick one of these for my next Lunchbox project. Thanks for the info 🙂
Unfortunately I didn't have a scale to weigh it on for a comparison. I can say this, it's quite a bit heavier, probably 3x - 4x the weight. That said, the CW01 handles it just fine. 👊

I currently can’t stop buying the tamiya line . I think it has to do with when I was little going to the hobby shop and not being able to afford them. So now I’m going down the list and just buying them and building them with my kids . It’s pretty wild how life works

I grew up in a very poor household, with no money for Tamiya RC's, I'd be lucky to get the Sears brands on occasion. Now as an adult, I can build them, and enjoy them on a totally different level. Is it much heavier now?? What lipos do you use that fit?? It's frustrating they haven't updated their battery trays. Also, that front end section looks weak. A couple good lawn darts might bend it. Id say no to taking off the supports.
@@s13kuminachu yeah it's definitely heavier now, one viewer said he weighed his and it's exactly 2x the weight of the plastic chassis. I can fit a standard 2S square pack in, just have to loosen the battery tray screws a tad to make the space. Alternatively, I use round 2S lipos I found online, I have a video on them too.
@@Louisxs650 Axial axles are pretty common and most hobby shops should have parts. It would be smart to get like, an sCX10 transmission, axles and start fabricating from there. You'd have to 4-link it, front and rear, with the motor/trans mounted in the chassis. It'll take some creative thinking, but it's doable.

What motor and esc are you using for the CW01
I'm running a Leopard RC brushless esc (ebay find about 8 years ago) paired to a 3300kv Leopard motor. 👊🏼
How much does the alloy chassis weight compared to the plastic one?

It's marked as a 12T, so I think it's roughly 4600kv? It's quick!

It sure does. They're the exact same chassis, so parts are interchangeable. 👍🏻

Thanks for watching! Shocks are 80mm from eyelet to eyelet. The front could be dropped to 75mm if you wanted to get rid of some camber. 👊🏼
