Love your channel just subscribed👍🏻 just bought my 3rd lunchbox (other 2 sold years ago) gonna do these mods along with front double wishbone in front & 3300kv brushless keep up the awesome vids especially on cw01 chasis😊 Regards from Australia🇦🇺
Right on, thanks for coming on board, mate! The Midnight Pumpkin is my fav RC! It's tough to match the amount of fun you can have with this chassis. Good luck with your build! 👊🏼
Not so much, the rear axle doesn't have the "up/down" movement as it did before, it's locked into place firmly creating a rigid, but more planted driving feel.
Love your back wall. Tamiya's were the in thing when I was a kid, but could never afford them. Now I got about 20 RC's in 2 years, eight of them Tamiya's and counting. Just bought a Midnight Pumpkin metallic edition & Super Clod Buster for my next builds. Your videos help out with upgrades needed for these builds. Nice to see another Canadian too that enjoys the Tamiya's. Most of the guys I now here in Toronto want Arrma's, Traxxas, anything RTR that goes fast. I like to build, play, break, & rebuild with upgrades.
Thanks for watching, my fellow Canuck! 👊 I'm in the same boat, when I was a kid there was no way my mom could afford Tamiya, I was lucky to get the Sears buggies of the day. Haha. Makes collecting them today that much more special. Glad you're enjoying the channel, cool profile pic, one crazy summer, right?
@@poorboysrc Yes it is 8-) My mother couldn't afford it also trying to raise 3 kids on her own. She passed away summer of 2019, shortly after I got my first RC and it's ballooned. My kids are loving the experience we never had.
@@xthumprx similar story here pal, mom passed back in '98 after busting her butt to raise three kids of her own. Glad to be able to re-live some of those great days we had together in the 80's and 90's. 👊
Awesome stuff Fil, very cool and easy mods. 3d printed parts are the new future for rc upgrades for sure. They even sell 3d printers on rc websites now. Party on dudes🎸
That part and the Ampro front end makes me want these kits now.... have always wanted a pumpkin, and maybe lunchbox... but didn't want a kit that didn't handle reasonably well (used to race kits)... I was tempted to get the early 50s body and do a tribute pumpkin paintjob and put my stampede back together instead... now I will likely put the Pede back together as it was before(PedeRacer), and get a Tamiya kit... Thanks for the video...
The Ampro front end is so cool! I think I'm going to add it to my MP soon. My first hobby grade RC was the MP and I've been on a life-long journey to make it handle well. 🤣🤣🤣
There used to a company called Miracle Speedway in the late 80's that made parts for these. They had a brass bushing kit for the front A arm ends, a diff shim kit to remove slop and play from the gearbox, a small bearing to replace the bronze one in the spur gear, and a rear tie brace for the differential.
Agree, it looks like a modern version of the pumpkin. I have quite a few vintage Tamiya vehicles that I run. If I am building a kit for display, I always do box art for the paint color and decals
Oh, this video was really for me! I already finished the rear on my Lunchbox, but I didn't do any mods yet, was in doubt which of the popular options I'd choose, I think this settled it for me! In a way, this is easiest and best, I already have some sheet nylon, add some aluminium or carbon fiber, I could quite easily make a couple of these mounts, I can even lower the ride height this way, it is great! Too bad I'm travelling, it'll be a while before I get to do this, I miss my Lunchbox, ha ha!
This is super cool!.... I see you went brushless as well, I have the very same oil shocks.... I'm having a hard time installing them in the rear. Have you done a video on that?
Surely the rear shocks are less affective now after installing the mod due to them being positioned at a more slanted angle but looks awesome all the same
I've never done it, but I've thought of doing it many times. I think it would create too much of a "drifter" feel, since the back end is so light and the solid axle suspension is so stiff.
Looks good but the "anti slap" feature also eliminates the gearboxes ability to articulate side to side which is why it has the slots to begin with. Not a major deal really because the suspension locks up under throttle anyway so you're not losing much functionality and it removes the slap but it's worth mentioning. The axle won't be able to roll side to side when off the throttle any more but off the throttle isn't a common occurrence on these anyway.
A couple reasons: Mostly, just for a different look. I've had a Midnight Pumpkin since 1988, so it's cool to see it in a new configuration. Secondly, it provides a tiiiiny bit more stability with the longer wheelbase. 👊🏼
@@poorboysrc fair enough. I love my old tamiya cars. Have you ever fully lowered a lunchbox/pumpkin. I like to drop them low and run them on worn out tyres. I have one with a load of lead in the nose and it does super burn outs.
@@captainchaos3053 Haha, now that sounds cool. No, I've never lowered one, but I've been tempted to. I bought the M-06 Lowride Pumpkin, my wife put an AMAZING paint job on it, so that satisfies my lowrider Pumpkin itches. 🤜
@@poorboysrc Those low ride pumpkin are sweet. I must try and get my hands on one. I press out the stock stub axles fill the holes and then refit them to make the wheels sit as square as I can on the front.

I can't speak for the Ampro LWB mod, never used it, but this LWB mod eliminates the need for a fifth shock or the like. The gearbox is held in snug and can't slap around like it does when it's stock.
@@poorboysrc love the videos by the way. Keep them going! Do you notice any issues with the rear wheel suspension not being able to articulate independently?
@@jamescollins5274 thanks pal, I have no plans on stopping, just been taking a bit of a break this summer. Appreciate the support! -- I'd say the rear axle doesn't articulate as much as it did before, but the truck feels a lot more planted and drives more predictably with this mod. 👊
Off subject, but I finally dropped a traxxas vielion brushless in my grasshopper w/ 18t pinion, and Holy smokes! That woke it up big time. Yeah I think so too. It gives it more of a Muscle Truck look, which I really like. 😁
What about side- to-side articulation of the rear axle? Do the new parts allow the rear axle to roll sideways?

I don't think I did a separate video on the shock install. Where are you stuck, perhaps I can help? 🍻
Great.. I suggest make the lunch box front shock more shorter about 5mm or use 75mm shocks.
Not a bad idea, I might put some o-rings in the shock body to shorten up the front ones a wee bit.
Surely the rear shocks are less affective now after installing the mod due to them being positioned at a more slanted angle but looks awesome all the same
They feel a bit softer at this angle, maybe it just me? Lol! Either way, it looks like it's going fast while it's standing still. 😆
I like them both but the front end camber definitely should help.

Does upgrading to oil shocks get rid of all the clunking sound when driving off road?
Oh yeah! It helps a lot! It also helps to dampen the body posts with an o-ring.
