that oil filter housing opening w/cap offer any benefit? it seems like just another possible leak point.

I doubt it. The only benefit really is that it’s made of metal so it doesn’t crack and break over time like the plastic ones. There is no hole from that area, but just to be safe I tighten it to torque specs like in the video.
