Original game is fine in solo as you can fully switch to low difficulty after you get all the needed strategems while playing with randoms. Then you just collect samples and chill. Helldivers 2, on the other hand, is f#%king brutal in solo - only green samples may be obtained from low difficulty missions, and the progression is hella slow with 1-3 coins per mission. That makes us to go to the higher difficulty, but then we have to face the fact that playing 4+ difficulty solo is just a torture. So yeah, coop is almost obligatory... At least, for now. I hope the devs will pay attention to the imbalanced progression for solo players.
The problem in solo is the endless spawning enemies and stamina. This game needs to remove stamina entirely. Add vehicles and balance for solo by nerfing spawn rates. It needs vehicles
Yeah you can set the difficulty to whatever you have unlocked, which the game comes with trivial and easy and then you have to unlock the other difficulties by playing
Theres 9 difficulties. But it gets way too hard. You have to play on 456. For orange samples. 789 for purple. 123 for green to upgrade your ship. Currently the coop SOS feature is broken and theres tons of crashes. Its highly unbalanced for solo play
Exceedingly buggy how exactly? Except for the matchmaking issues at launch, which seem to be fixed now, I haven't encountered any bugs other than those I nuke to hell. Honestly not sure what other bugs you're referring to?

No. Its grindy for unlocks. Exceedingly buggy with alot of crashes. But its fun. It just requires a squad of 4 to function
