Sony’s attempts at chasing the multiplayer trends this gen: Destruction All Stars (fun for me but fell flat) Last of Us Multiplayer (cancelled) Foam Stars (flopped) Hell Divers II (wild, surprising success) Concord (underwhelming)
It’s not for me, I’m not a live service gamer, but I did play one round to satiate my curiosity. It felt good, even though I had no clue what I was doing. I think the game has 2 major issues: The character designs are awful. Really generic, everyone feeling like a cheap copy of other popular characters. And 2- The story vignettes are admittedly a little cringy. I hate that word, but I can’t think of a better one to describe how it felt to watch them. Maybe this can find an audience, since it does play well and there is some depth to it, but being $40 is a big ask when all of its competitors are f2p. Ok, that’s 3 things.
When I played the beta this weekend, if there was one thing I generally was amazed with is actually how much fun I personally had with it. I think there’s for sure elements that need to be adjusted. It does feel like this weird pot of Destiny, Overwatch, and Halo, and it just needs to figure it out, but like….I enjoyed it a lot. I will absolutely jump back in next week just to play it. But for me the problem does boil down to, it’s $40, I can play Destiny, Overwatch, and Halo for free, and I’m already invested in those (especially Halo for me). I just don’t think it’s worth my time and money to play a game that I do like a lot, but just isn’t probably going to do anything for me. I think if this game gets a massive update, presents something I can’t get out of the other MP games out there right now, and maybe goes on sale, I will look into it again for sure. But till then, I’ll just taken advantage of any FTP weekends, and I’ll just go back over to Infinite.
game journalists are racist ashholes who hate video games, there makes sense to me does question how all the HR companies think exactly alike.... lets hire someone without any of the attributes one would think would be needed for the job... but their resume is EXACTLY the same as the rest of the people in the job pool... i guess this is a game journalist resume
I heard about the beta and downloaded on Saturday. There were parts of the gameplay that when it clicked, it was fun. But the whole thing felt very soulless. This would probably do better as a F2P game and the $40 is a big ask that it really hasn't earned. I deleted the game after less than a dozen matches.
It's a fucking joke that's what it is. Sony really is investing Money in this instead of adding actual Backward Compatibility to their console or making sequels people want...
The First Descendant, apart from oversexualized female characters, have absolutelly great gunplay, great visuals, sound design, and gameplay loop, with monetization no more predatory than Warframe, who was championed as f2p done right for last dekade.
One big reason we keep getting entertainment that feels less mature in tone is because mainstream media is no longer for adults, statistically speaking. The golden demographic used to be 18-35. It's now contracted to 18-20. Why the shrink in age range? Because that's who consumes comic books and similar media like video games, music, etc. So, the bulk of this material is purposefully created with this limited tone (quirky, sarcastic) and life experience in mind. Compare this to back in the day with the original Star Wars and Indiana Jones, that were made for anybody, 18-80. Corporations have hyper-focused on who spends the majority of their limited disposable income on entertainment and it's NOT older consumers (who have more disposable income, ironically) who want entertainment that reflects their more nuanced life experiences, unfortunately.
I have noticed this for a while and went back and forth on whether I was imagining things as people dismissed it when I pointed it out. I don't even consider myself someone who is super intellectual or needs high literature but noticed a lot of current media feels very juvenile even for me. I remember during the PS3 era where it seemed like the industry was eager to look "adult" and focused more on more ground stories and content and then in the middle of the PS4 generation it shifted towards the gen Z market. I notice this with anime and music as well. It feels more media is created by imitating what's popular instead of drawing from life experiences.
It is indeed a perfect example of the disaster that is major game development and publishing today. I've said it countless times but I've been gaming since the start of it in the 1970s. I've bought many consoles and computers and still play them. And yet this is the first generation where I haven't bothered because there's no games that I want. Because it's becomes so stupidly bloated and crunchy that the products turned out are banal safe shite that's exactly the same and serves no real purpose. There's no real experimentation, there's no difference. I'm happy playing everything I still have but unless the landscape changes, I won't have any problem staying doing that.
Blame the consumer. It's supply and demand. And the consumer has been demanding bs. Gta online, COD, NBA 2K and many more. Unless it was a major issue they accepted the bs. Those micro aggressions built up into what you see now. That pile of shite slowly turned into a mountain
I’d argue we live in one of the best times for gaming. If mainstream games don’t do anything for you Steam’s indie scene is flooded with experimental games. I have a backlog of games that could last me the rest of my life, and there are some truly fun games in the AAA market depending on your tastes. I’m not a kid, hell I’m almost 40, so I’ve been around the block too, but I try not to be cynical. Yes, publishers are pushing live service slop at every turn, but I can rattle off lots of fun, single player games that I’ve played and loved over the past 5 years. My point is, there is something out there for everyone, you just have to ignore the flavor of the week and internet culture and you will find the gems.
i agree...us older gamers (my first console was a sears telegamaes) usually have ridiculous backlogs...add in the memory going and after 10 years arkham asylum seems like a new game because i forgot everything lol
Backland, the first defendant is not a single player shooter. It’s MMO in the truest sense of it. It’s an MMO you login and you are in the city LB surrounded by I think it is 30 other player that is an MMO that the definition of an MMO right there, various style missions from co-op and like dungeon lights scenario inflation operations are more of a dungeon and they’re a co-op or private. If you choose to go private so you can do them single player you know I am not sure it’s private actual co-op team that your party with I’m not I’m not positive. I tried that but you can match make up or you can do it private Co-op only missions but special ops, which I honestly don’t see any other purpose but doing those except grinding experience the level characters right it’s a good place for that. Same thing we use them for the level of gear characters in war frame in wave after wave you kill everything keep getting try to go as long as you can although in Warf frame I don’t think there was any into it. You could stay as long as you could handle it but I think we will 21 wave 21 is the highest level in in the first as it either way, there’s that kind of co-op bowling mission. You cannot do them solo. There are co-op missions to fight. There are open world missions that you can do solo people can drop in and join you in the middle at the beginning if they get there right at the end before the job, final bit of the mission they get credit and those are held in open areas zones to the majors. Only that you’re working on this is an MMO that is at least as much as Gilmore was an MMO because you actually can drop into a mission find somebody shooting and go to and their mission help them with that and then follow around with them and do the rest of the missions in that song, I don’t believe Gilbert had that when you left town was your team adventuring with co-op town multiplayer like a destiny or a war frame where you logged in you’re in your hub ship is your hub and you must join an instance to get with other players in that case, the hub is Albion and when you login you’re surrounded by other playerwhen you leave and come back, you don’t come back to that but yet again be surrounded by other players fallout six comes out with three other player to log out login again with a different 23 player doesn’t mean it’s not an MMO
The beta was sort of fun but not something that made me want to spend money to play it. Free to play might have been smarter. The problem is we have seen too many multiplayer only games fail for a purchase to feel risky since a multiplayer only game that doesn't sell well is not a good purchase for anyone. This game already feels like its got an uphill battle. Even Sony screwed it up because its paid you also have to pay for PS+ to play it on their platform whereas if it was free it would also be free to play. Also ultimately it just reminded me of other games like overwatch and valorant which i immediately went to play after this and they are both free. This will be dead on arrival.
They had the power to make anything, so they went ahead and made a collection of characters that look like convention attendees in cheap costumes. I no longer play Overwatch, but at least the characters are memorable.
The problem is when these games get the go ahead what is popular at the time won’t be in the 3+ years it takes to produce. So we end up with games that nobody wants years after they would have done well.
I really enjoyed the Beta and I wanted nothing to do with it originally. I wish this game was a single player shooter RPG tbh. Game is fantastic for the type of game it is - the live service games are absolutely done for outside of the real big ones
I shall say, myself and my friends. Wonderful women who love hero shooters. Hated EVERY SINGLE character design. We will not be playing it just cause it looks bland and the characters are so unappealing
this looks shockingly generic. makes you realize how well overwatch is designed, with clear character silhouettes. these heroes look like ants for some reason. really glad to see pushback against modern slop. sony is such a disappointment this gen it made me decide to return to pc gaming more...
12:37 I WANT to say yes, a thousand times yes. I can't. Days Gone. That game is fantastic, but no one cared because of how exhausted they were with Open World AND Zombie games. It's going to be the same thing here, no matter how good the game play is it's going to get buried by people's burn out of these archetypes.
i'm not a big fan of destiny pvp nor overwatch so this game definitely wasn't made for me but not every game should be...if you enjoy it? great but i have zero interest
I honestly think that the comparison with guardians is inapt, that people are unable to see beyond the fact that is a space crew. If you read descender or watch bebop you would think that they are much more alike with the concord crew. Even the tone of the relationships are different than guardians.
Sony wasn't paying attention when they made the announcement they were buying Bungie (at such a high cost at that) in order to go full in the Life Service games. People were grumbling, they were reaching their limit of those kinds of games already at that point.
Diversity and "For A Modern Audience" stuff just instantly makes me disinterested in it. I don't even care how good or bad the gameplay is, I'm not even going to bother checking it out if it's free. Apparently I'm not alone, given that it is practically dead on arrival.
The game trying to do something different with it characters and gameplay to some degree Always interesting how people demand something different but when they get it they complain that its different
Maybe they could pull a Dynasty Warriors (the original was a fighting game, its sequels changed genre and the rest is history). I think one of the biggest knocks is that you have the heroes but nothing in story to make folk care. It’s all from supplemental material. For something like this it makes more sense just doing a Guardians of the Galaxy/Mass Effect type game going forward.
The thing I'm concerned about, just listening to you, is there going to be a team that is just better than all of the other bonuses you get from switching characters. Would everyone do the exact same load out just to stay competitive?
Battleborne deserved better. It was a MOBA but because outlets couldn’t be bothered to explain that, it was just labeled as an inferior Overwatch. It was a solid game when taken on its own merits.
people are complaining for the wrong reasons I believe. The game is well done, attractive, gorgeous and fun to play. The only valid complaint at the moment (at least for me), is that some innovation on the genre would be welcomed (remember, this is not a criticism for Concord, but for the entire genre)
No one wants to remember ppl hated this game from that poor Sony Showcase they had last year. Ppl hated the IDEA of Sony doing live Service, before seeing this game. There's a prejudice...
What must have gotten into Sony for getting so invested in this game. As the open beta numbers also rolled in and even when it's free just a small audience is turning up willing to give it a try that says a lot. When I was watching the State of Play showcasing a Concord cutscene I was kind of interested but once I saw more I became turned off. Live service, bland, boring and soulless world design, unappealing characters to support the aggressively forced narrative... My friends and I play a lot of mp shooters and the thing we absolutely don't care about is anything else but teaming up, having a great time via voice comms and just shoot stuff. If we want a story we watch a movie, read a book or play a story driven sp game.
Concord Of The Galaxy is _completely_ uninteresting to me, and every gamer in my circle... unless the game is God-Tier gameplay and features, it's doomed...
DEI done right (without players even knowing it): Overwatch Concord is actively trying to shove it down your throat like a f*cking vomit inducing pill that no one wants to take. Overwatch has DEI in their game (whether intentionally or not), but it mostly stays out of the way because the game is all about the, frankly, lovable and iconic looking heroes, and the lore behind them (not their sexual orientation, gender identity or race). Each Overwatch character is a more of a representation of their respective country and orientation in relation to their world's ongoing conflict (basically whether they're morally good, flat out evil or somewhere in-between). Overwatch is a game that I wouldn't mind my kids playing. The heroes and stories behind them are well crafted and pretty family friendly. Concord is something I wouldn't even show my grandmother.
What are you talking about with regards to the First Descendant? That’s blatant misinformation. You unlock characters very easily without having to do any grinding at all. Just play the main campaign. You unlock Bunny in the first couple of hours, then when you get to the next biome you get the next character etc etc. The microtransactions are there for cosmetics only and for those who are into that, they know what they’re getting. Sure it’s pricey but it’s not necessary at all to progress in the game.
i still haven't gotten bunny. The mission that her code component is supposed to drop in never does so. I must've played that mission over 40 times now. It feels like the spawn chance for it is actually below 20%.
Micro transactions are cosmetic only? Buddy have you opened the shop? It's literally filled with enhancement modules and in game items that are a pain to farm otherwise. The colors are one time use and if you remove it, you have to buy it again. The characters can be farmed for sure but they're also being sold for $100 a pop for ultimate bundles. The game's micro transactions are predatory and this is coming from someone who has already spent hours in the game.
I don't think people hate Concord. Unlike Suicide Squad Concord is original IP so i don't think people "hate" Concord. I think people are just uninterested. The character designs look boring.
One positive thing about the PSN region locking on Steam is at least we don't have to play that game... I do wonder once this game fully releases then it falls flat in its face. Would Sony reverse their PSN restrictions?
Played the beta and had a lot of fun but I'm into hero shooters. Quality gameplay and graphics. I've also been looking for another hero shooter to get into since Overwatch has been on the decline and here it is. I'm excited
My main issue that these characters designs are just awful. They don’t stand out in anyway. People complain about Overwatch but at least they still make great designs (look at Juno)
I swear I feel so bad for creators in this era. Idc if it's games, movies, music or TV everyone is so cynical and full of hate. People come in wanting to hate something before even TRYING to enjoy it or have fun. Smh.

The fun thing is that this game is not made around a shop or cosmetics. Refreshing! I'm definitely in for this game, gameplay is awesome, not asking for your money all of the time. Lots of launch content, no ults, more skill based with no timers on abilities.
Not even the Rule34 people will touch this aberration.
Just when we thought the slop couldn't get any sloppier
Sony’s attempts at chasing the multiplayer trends this gen:
Destruction All Stars (fun for me but fell flat)
Last of Us Multiplayer (cancelled)
Foam Stars (flopped)
Hell Divers II (wild, surprising success)
Concord (underwhelming)
Fairgame$?
A disappointment in the making.
Characters are Guardians of the Galaxy meets People of Wal-Mart.
Wal-Mart?
More like Target, beside the questionable clothing for children.
As i said before it feels like it could be called Bandwagon the game just feels like something created by execs
I look at this game and get the same exhaustion I get from the MCU. The space is too saturated at this point.
I like "Bandwagon: The Cosplay" better.
Was made by the HR team and the community managers actually.
DEI
ESG
Are Not For Me.
Forspoken got a higher ign ranking than the first descendant make it make sense
game journalists are racist ashholes who hate video games, there makes sense to me
does question how all the HR companies think exactly alike.... lets hire someone without any of the attributes one would think would be needed for the job... but their resume is EXACTLY the same as the rest of the people in the job pool... i guess this is a game journalist resume
If Guardians of the Galaxy was made by Sweet Baby Inc.
No matter how good of your story, it is pointless if the characters in the story looks shitty.
Did you say this has solid gameplay?
Y'all are sleeping on The First Descendant
You are saying that this game is targeting 18+ market? 😮
The console space these days barely has any games worth playing when it comes to AAA games. Most of the good games these days are indies.
@@diablomozart Yeah I have a good memory generally, so I tend to leave at least 10 years between replaying games so I've forgotten enough.
The game is actually good gameplay wise
Only that you’re working on this is an MMO that is at least as much as Gilmore was an MMO because you actually can drop into a mission find somebody shooting and go to and their mission help them with that and then follow around with them and do the rest of the missions in that song, I don’t believe Gilbert had that when you left town was your team adventuring with co-op town multiplayer like a destiny or a war frame where you logged in you’re in your hub ship is your hub and you must join an instance to get with other players in that case, the hub is Albion and when you login you’re surrounded by other playerwhen you leave and come back, you don’t come back to that but yet again be surrounded by other players fallout six comes out with three other player to log out login again with a different 23 player doesn’t mean it’s not an MMO
finally lizzo is like coo representation!
This game is wayyy better than valorant and characters may look stupid but the game is fire!
The character cast feels like a knock off version of guardians of the galaxy.
Hmm guess I'll stick with having a blast on The Finals 🎉
Balls to bones?
Concord means 'agreement/unity'.
Can we all agree in our united hate for the state of the gaming industry at this point in time?
I saw the pronouns at the character select screen, and immediately knew the game wasnt made for me.
I really enjoyed the Beta and I wanted nothing to do with it originally. I wish this game was a single player shooter RPG tbh.
Game is fantastic for the type of game it is - the live service games are absolutely done for outside of the real big ones
I see what you're doing. And I am not playing.
Pretty much.
I shall say, myself and my friends. Wonderful women who love hero shooters. Hated EVERY SINGLE character design. We will not be playing it just cause it looks bland and the characters are so unappealing
this looks shockingly generic. makes you realize how well overwatch is designed, with clear character silhouettes.
these heroes look like ants for some reason.
really glad to see pushback against modern slop. sony is such a disappointment this gen it made me decide to return to pc gaming more...
wtf … I want my money back😊
12:37 I WANT to say yes, a thousand times yes. I can't.
The PS open beta was free to access….it’s just no one wanted to access it
No it wasn’t. You had to pre order to play the closed beta. It wasn’t even in open beta🤣. The open beta is tomorrow.
Except Destiny is actually better than the current live service games.
The talent pool is shrinking because of classism. That's what happens when you take money away from education.
Diversity and "For A Modern Audience" stuff just instantly makes me disinterested in it. I don't even care how good or bad the gameplay is, I'm not even going to bother checking it out if it's free. Apparently I'm not alone, given that it is practically dead on arrival.
Gameplay felt like buttcheeks, and the roster is textbook definition of meh.
Movement feels like pushing a car without wheels through 6 feet of mud.
2500 people playing........We have found the modern Audience
You just found content creators and Video game journalists
My favorite part of Concord was when John Concord said "It's concording time!!", Truly one of the best Concord game ever made.
DEI approved game is failing is a wonderful thing.
It looks like one of those fake parody games they make to avoid copyright in movies
The game trying to do something different with it characters and gameplay to some degree
Always interesting how people demand something different but when they get it they complain that its different
No one wanted characters that look like this.
@@impactsuit9871I think the characters look cool so
Yea, not interested, the characters design literally makes me feel like vomiting, I can't play a game that makes me feel sick
The week by week thing has been done in Destiny 2 for years. Probably in other games too, it’s not a new concept!
Even destiny 2 starting to move away from that.
Even a 5 year old could design a better roster lmao.
Chasing a genre is so common now and development is so long and the story are purposely bland now it sucks
I actually like this game, my only concern is: Is only an Arena shooter. They can do so much more with these characters. The gameplay is great.
You know they said they're gonna add more stuff as the game goes on, right?
The thing I'm concerned about, just listening to you, is there going to be a team that is just better than all of the other bonuses you get from switching characters. Would everyone do the exact same load out just to stay competitive?
It reminded me of the old hero shooter Battleborn mixed with Overwatch
Battleborne deserved better. It was a MOBA but because outlets couldn’t be bothered to explain that, it was just labeled as an inferior Overwatch. It was a solid game when taken on its own merits.
Bro took garyVs 'upload as much content as possible' to heart
I still appreciate games trying to compete with Overwatch, given the state of it; now OW2 does nothing but ‘what if’ scenarios just to sell cosmetics
people are complaining for the wrong reasons I believe. The game is well done, attractive, gorgeous and fun to play. The only valid complaint at the moment (at least for me), is that some innovation on the genre would be welcomed (remember, this is not a criticism for Concord, but for the entire genre)
Attractive?
Definitely not.
How does the story tie into multiple rounds of team death match and capture the flag
More super-ugly cartoonish characters. How predictable & dull.
Omg. Overwatch with GotG coat of paint?! Sound amazing!
The thing this game needs to do is to be Overwatch 1. If they can pull that off, it might have a future.
DEI done right (without players even knowing it): Overwatch
Concord is actively trying to shove it down your throat like a f*cking vomit inducing pill that no one wants to take.
I'm sick of every game I purchase for full price not even being the full game anymore unless we pay for the game again basically.
Sony paying for some promotion with this guy.
Smh.
the creators of modern era games do themselves no favours, they flat out say that they hate gamers lol. I'm all for games having inclusiveness and diversity. People should have games that represent them. The other side of the coin - gamers want to play games that represent them, which they can identify with, which is more traditional to what built the gaming industry.
I agree, but also if the product is bad there isn't any reason why to be fake positive and invalid genuine concerns with the game.
People attacking concord got real issues with the game is not just "hate because of hating"situation
They made an effort to make us hate their game
@@RomnysGonzalezbut the game isn’t bad lol
@@Nathan.007reason game devs hate gamers is in this comment section. Read the comment section and tell me why you wouldn’t hate the people who don’t appreciate the hard work you did for multiple years and instead insult you and can even receive death threats from.

All these developers trying to jump onto the live service train. Even some of the games that have been in the live service scene for a long time are starting to trickle out.
It's funny how small the players are compared to the map. Corridors to wide. Just goofy.
What
Suicide Squad is the breaking point, Concord is when it snapped. lmao
I just hope people stop preordering
