There is a price difference between PVC wye and the FDM adapter, but the gap shrinks when adding the cost of PVC primer and cement. I'm willing to pay more to get a complete product that is installation ready.
@@eddyvideostar the door doesnt leak and only popped off in the video because I was taking it apart. you should look at one in person, they really are superior.
I just put four of these one on my house. The door is very well designed in that it has to be lifted up and then the bottom has to be pulled out and then the door comes down and out. No way it would come off on its own if it is installed the way it is supposed to be.
We recommend it as an access/inspection point at a minimum. Also, you'd be surprised by how far leaves travel in storms. We've had many customers with no big trees within 300 of there home have clogged gutters. Maple helicopters are the worst for traveling. Also, squirrels and other critters can sometimes go into drain systems.
@@siestakeygirl1000 this is a tough situation. There's no way to unclog an underground drain field/rock bed unless it was specifically designed to be serviced. You'll likely have to abandon it and rerun your downspout to a pop up or a servicable feature
These might be great products, no doubt, but cost is a factor that maybe wasn’t considered?? I can do the pvc wye setup for 7 down spouts is $150. FDM spout connectors are $377.82 (includes shipping) for 7. That’s roughly 60% more. Not sure there’s that much extra value personally. Looks and a little easier to install. Even installing a catch basin at the end of each spout is cheaper. Let’s face it, the spout connector is nothing more a catch basin that burrito wraps the spout.

Great idea...absurd price....$64.95 EACH on Amazon (free shipping) as of Sept. '23. $45 to $50 EACH on French Drain Man's website + $16.95 for shipping (increases as more is ordered). So both are $65.... Appreciated your videos so far but clearly FDM sponsors this video somehow? You also made no mention of the price difference between the two solutions since clearly FDM is cost prohibitive for the DIYer and if you're selling to the customer, they'd be paying twice or three times the price for FDM.
No sponsorship. We actually use them for our systems because they are better. Quality costs a little more. We have another video showing you how to make one with wye.
@marysmythe5110 I'm a DIYer and had a flooded back yard. I bought this product from fdm for my home. The shit at home depot is well shit, anything related to drainage there is shit. Yeah it costs a bit more but if you only wanna do it once then pay a bit more and buy the best product
I swear with French Drain man
I use a lot of his ideas, on my house 🏠

Great video man I switched to fdm cleanouts because I got tired of building the Y connector clean-out it just took too much time💪
Thanks Sam! Yeah, they really are a time saver.
Dear Sam French, Stay clear of flowing water openings. It is better to install the Y than a leaking or popping-off door.
Build it once and for all.

Thank you for this tip. Looks like the access door might leak in a heavy rain, though. It pops off so easily.
Trust that access door does not leak and it definitely does not pop off easy
@@samsfrenchdrains Good to know. Thank you for the reply. It definitely looks better than the Home Depot / Lowe's options.
We've not had one come off by itseld and no leaks.

Just installed FDM leaf filters, they are the best designed and functioning component of their type that I have seen. Same for their catch basins.
Question, if you don’t have large trees that will clog your down spouts, do you really need these traps?

What about filtering Douglas Fir needles?
Put a clean out basin within the first 12in of buried pipe after the cleanout and it will catch everything that makes it through this clean out.
hey - from your experience - if you use the french drain man downspout adapter - can i remove the leaf filter from the top of the gutter?
As far as your drain system goes, it would be fine. However, your gutters would then need to be cleaned regularly because they will clog.
Bless You and Thanks for the info!
I have a down spout that goes to underground rock pit. It's backed up how do I unclog it??

FDM all the way.
Can you add a filter to the adapter ?
It comes with one

Home Depot sells basically the same one less the access door for $6.95 . Access door just use a piece of plexi / hard plastic.

I want some of his dual wall pipe but its like $500 dollars after shipping to Texas
@justinw123 yes but it's well worth it
That's a wye not a downspout adapter.

$80 each. 😂
It's $50 on their website. It's worth it especially if you don't have gutter guards.
