@@LeftBrainedArtist The one I use for cooking makes my hair stand on end when I unroll it. holds such an awesome charge. Can't wait to hear/see your findings. I hope I have helped.
@LeftBrainedArtist I am so excited to start doing acrylic pours! I am a resin artist and have always loved to paint! Be it houses with my husband or on canvases and I am actually about to start making content and am at the beginning of my journey, Would you be okay with me linking some of your videos as tips for others/mentioning you in my videos? My first piece I'm sharing as content will be a hybrid of a acrylic pour and resin. So many of your videos have really helped me figure out the colors, mediums and how to not make mud! Lol now I just have to get up the gusto to actually pour! Thank you so much! 💓
I use an offset spatula to apply my basecoat. Extra paint on it can be re-applied to the canvas, or scraped back into the cup, and it's a LOT easier to clean than thick paintbrush bristles!
Thank you so much David ☺️ I've been watching pourer after pourer and it seems that they always leave out an important bit of information or a step so you do have to do their course to actually achieve anything with decent results. I have learnt SOOOOOO many different tid bits of extremely useful information also you explain EVERYTHING! you don't leave me at the end of any of your tutorials wondering 'what the Nora did he do there?'🤔 unfortunately just after discovering LBA I broke both my wrists so over the 6 week period where I actually can't do myself I've been watching David - tutorial after tutorial after tutorial - and in 3 weeks time (yes half way through)👍 I will be set and much more confident in my approach. I've started preparing the little things I can while waiting like printing pdf etc. All u can say is thank you so much as before I became incapacitated I already was improving and with what I've learnt while also being entertained I feel I will be able to achieve some of the styles I've been trying for 3 years now😊👍
I am sorry to hear that you injured yourself Kayne but glad you found my channel. Let me know if you have any questions that don't get answered. I am always looking for new content ideas.
This speaks to my soul, thank you so much for making this video, David. I love watching many YT pouring artists, but I've always been rather uneasy watching the amount of paint I see _some_ just wasting - apparently without a second thought. 😱 Some artists get paint and other supplies sent to them by PRs, or receive affiliate credit via their viewers at art outlets. *I don't remotely begrudge them that at all,* it just means their supplies are at least partly covered, so they don't have to be _quite_ as cautious with how much paint goes in the bin! 😳 I think perhaps they don't always quite remember how expensive paint can be for those buying it out of the household budget.
@@LeftBrainedArtist A man after my own heart. Thanks for sharing your comprehensive knowledge - and superb test results - with us, David. I really appreciate it. 🤍
I just watched your video on using less paint. !!!WOW!!! what a difference. I can't thank you enough. Less paint, Less mess, Less clean up, !!Less MONEY!! Being retired on a fixed income. That was a great, great way to be able to continue to do what I love. Being older with unsteady hands. Fluid art is perfect for me to continue to do what I love. Again Thank You!!!
When on a tight budget less, truly is more. I am in love with the first painting ❤ Thanks again for all that you do to teach us the technical aspects of paint pouring.
I appreciate the demo for the first painting! If you're going for negative space, who knew you needed so little paint! Great info for that painting! The second one was my favorite esthetically, I like lots of color, everywhere 😁 but still, saving 20% of your pint using the spinner is great! The further you can stretch your resources (no pun intended!) The better! Thanks for posting! I look forward to the next video!
If I know I am going to use it soon (which I almost always am) I just put saran wrap over the cup. Otherwise I have saved leftover containers that seal that I use for bigger batches.
Two nice results here and a great method to use for those of us on a budget. Thank you. You had some nice cells on both. Using the thin paint did they stay as the picture dried? I know you've said that cells with thin paint are sometimes unstable.
If you have a video on this subject, sorry I didn't see it. My question: Has anyone experimented using clear gesso in paint pouring ? Like, as an additive in medium? Thanks!
I lost my 2nd question: should I cut plastic cut w/box knife to use to pour my pre-mixed pouring acrylic and should i mix some floetral into each color 1st. I'm not expecting a perfect ratio, just fun try right now. Thanks again, Peggy
Oh, don't add medium to pre-mixed paint. It should be fine how it is. Some are even a little too thin and you want to leave them out for a few hours to thicken up (let some water evaporate).
For small canvases I don’t. The silicone mat acts like glue and keeps it on. You can use double sided tape or put some paint on the under side of the frame where it touches the spinner too but that also makes more mess/clean-up.
Also, I know it's a proprietary mix, however... as a UK person, would it be worth my considering this course or are the ingredients US only in their distribution?
The ingredients are the major brands that are sold most places and there are alternates. Olga is actually in Canada and she mentions they are available in the UK.
Hi there this does not have anything to do with this video.. I just have a question that I think you might be able to help me with. When the paint recipes appear as 65% paint, 20% Gloss Medium, 15% water. How does that translate in ounces, or grams? Your help will be much appreciated.
Take the total amount you want to make of that color. Say 2 ounces. Then multiple each part. So 2 * .65 you get 1.3 oz paint. 2 * .2 you get .4 ounces gloss medium. 2 * .15 you get .3 ounces water. Just to make sure you can add your totals back up 1.3 + .4 + .3 and you get your total 2 ounces. same thing goes for grams but you'd says I need 60 grams and multiply by 60 instead of 2.
My first pour, paint consistency was definitely an issue and I accidentally bought matte paint. My second pour was much better but I had a lot of tiny bubbles. I used a butane torch but it was one for cooking I got at the grocery and it didn’t work that well. I think I’m afraid of using butane. Is there a better way to get the bubbles out?
I use a cooking torch. It is by far the best way. A heat gun will also and doesn't have an open flame. This is the one I use - Heat Gun - amzn.to/3CSxHe2 (Amazon Affiliate link)
Hi David, I really need your help please. I bought most of the stuff I need to make a few pours including a quart of floetral & Master's touch pre-mixed pouring acrylic. Then today I rcvd cheap flimsy split cups that I'm not comfortable using. Not deep enough or sturdy. Can you please guide me or send me a link to buy 3 way split cup. Also should I get 5 way or set? I just need quality. I tried so hard already watching videos. Thanks, Peggy
I only have a 3d printed split cup. I don't use it very often though. I did just by a two compartment silicone bowl from Lolivefe for smaller paintings. (lolivefe.com/products/wide-mouth-silicone-split-cup?_pos=1&_sid=fa9e32523&_ss=r Use code "LBA10" for 10% off )
Thank you for quick reply. Also, do you think cookie cutters 2 or 3" wide, 2" deep would be good to use to pour my paint into or is stainless steel too heavy? I think you cut a plastic cup, not sure, much cheaper though. Th and you.

my guess is look at the silicon matt as the location of your static build up causing the paint to do that.

Exactly. The spinner does make a destinct pattern compared to normal tilting so that is one draw back but otherwise saving the paint is awesome.
