Enjoy your teaching. I am an oil painter. Learning to pour. What a challenge! I have a tip or cheap canvases. Spay the back with water let dry it will shrink the canvas and make it tight. Hope this is useful...Anne
Here’s a tip that works great for me and maybe for others as well. I keep a few large cups on my table. One for pink/purple, one for blue/green, one for gray/black…you get the idea. Then when I scrape my canvas or table top, or even the last drops in my mixing cups, I put that into my large cups. You’d be surprised at the beautiful colors! Now I always have “free” paint for my base coats and flow extenders. Have also used them to fix sides of the canvas. No waste!!
They last a long time. Months. I cover them with plastic wrap secured with a rubber band. I don’t use silicone and all are mixed with floetrol and some have a bit of liquitex pm as well. Some are metallic and some regular acrylic. Always the cups turn into a pretty metallic color. Funny that I’ve been doing this for a long time and have never turned my cup to mud! Sometimes I’ll pour a little into a small cup and use it in a pour.
Where in the heck were you a year ago when I was attempting to learn from the big guns, which was all I could find?...but seriously, thank you for the thoughtful way you teach, not missing anything!. You are not only tall with very long arms 😜, but you are also a very good teacher 🍎

I been wanting to do this for awhile, but didn't how to get started until came across your video. Thank you so much for explaining it well for a beginner like me. 👍🏻
Thanks! I've been painting for a while, but I still learned some great stuff from this. I can't pour today, because my cat will complain. 😆 During lockdown he has become accustomed to have constant access to my lap. Since I paint with a large plastic tub on my sofa (what could go wrong with that) he's decided that the best option is to stare at me with big eyes until the guilt becomes to much and I have to stop painting. So, I paint every other day, to keep the peace. I did paint yesterday and you are totally right, you just have to jump in and see what happens. One of my favourites is actually one I did really early, but every pour is a learning experience, even if I end my session scraping all the paint back off the canvases. And my painting journal is my go to guide for experiments, tracking what worked and what didn't etc.
@@LeftBrainedArtist He has a huge fluffy tail that will get into things from unfathomable distances and occasionally gets in it. His thing is glitter. He loves the stuff. He always has to have some on when I have it out, and I buy my glitter by the kilo, so it's fairly often. The thing is, he's been used to me crafting from when he was young. I sit on the couch with my legs crossed up and he lies on one side and I twist and craft on the other. He could sit on my lap, but I wouldn't be giving him 101% of my attention. He is very entitled and pandered to, hence every other day is a Corvinus Day. I used to have one that would manage to walk through any kind of paint anywhere you put it and looked away for a few moments. We still have a line of white paw prints leading from the cat flap and down the front path. She also tried to stick her head in a bowl of hair dye once, but he managed to stop her, but she did have a pink flash for a bit.

What a great way to explain just how easy your first pour can be, appreciate the lesson. Off to watch your updated video to see if I can learn more, thanks
THANK YOU for this video! I've been just such a person, binge-watching other people's acrylic pours, but always wanting to try it for myself. We bought all the materials and then just didn't really know where to go from there. Your video was very instructive, especially about mixing the paints and helping viewers recognize the correct pouring consistencies. Our first pours may not have gone *exactly* how we wanted, but they still look pretty cool, and we have plenty of paint and canvases remaining to try again a few more times without more purchases.
You go Jenny. Isn't pouring so much fun? Just take your time, make small changes and keep track of what works and what doesn't and you'll be pouring masterpieces in no time. Also, love your failures. They make you better and should be celebrated too!

I am so happy to hear that the thinking part of pouring is over for you!. Let the fun begin. I started painting out of necessity, I needed something to spark my brain out of severe PTSD. I found Sarah Mack (love her). After watching for a couple of months, I again recognized the power of colors. The rest is history!.
I've decided that you have to be an artist to do this. Not just anybody can do it. That anybody is me. All my colors run together and I end up with a poop brown canvas

I’m learning so much from you. And by the way my paint pour containers turned out amazing. My husband drilled a hole threw each end of the PVC piping and and then the cement mixer. And zip tied the pipes on both sides. And made sure it was all level. We made two. And used 5 pipes per container. I made 6 paintings yesterday. Thank You for all the great advice and information. It’s working out so well for me.
Good evening David, thank you for all your informative videos. They are a great help to all beginners of acrylic pouring. I have one question please. When working out how much paint is needed for the canvas size, what percentage of that amount is for the base coat? Thank you and bless you for all the valuable information.🌷

I have a couple friends that have been doing this for a couple years, but they are not good teachers 😁 You make me feel I can actually do this 😀 Gonna give it a shot! I have a blacklight room I have been wanting to desperately make cool crap for .... And I believe you have given me the tools to do that! Thank you so much... Wish me luck 🤞
Thank you so much. Glad to help and can't wait to see what you create.
What a great way to explain just how easy your first pour can be, appreciate the lesson. Off to watch your updated video to see if I can learn more, thanks
Hope it helps and that you start soon Kim. Let me know how it ges.
Holy moly...you make it look so easy...im going to try this with my grand daughter...tar heaps.
Have fun! let me know how it goes.
You are a great teacher, I love the way you explain everything. I am doing my first pour today and hope it will go well
Good luck! Let me know how it goes Diane.
Me too!!! Making Christmas gifts early. Ill frame them first
Your awesome! Thanks for being so motivating and supportive to make me the viewer lol more confident and I finally just got all I needed and while watching you I did my first one and I'm now can't wait to do more!!! Thank you!
That is awesome! Hope you love it as much as I do.
I honestly didn't like any of them but love how you explain everything so well and the way you talk is nice. Thank you and happy pouring
That is the beauty of abstract art. Every painting gets viewed so different.
The 3 pours were beautiful! I liked the cup dump best, when i expected to like the tree ring best. Very exciting.
Thank you Amy. Have you tried pouring yet?
@@LeftBrainedArtist nope, sounds like a project for this weekend. I work in accounting so you channel is perfect for me.
When I want to reuse a canvas, how long do I need to wait? I didn't scrape them, didn't see the flaws till later.
Thank you! Love the way you explain EVERYTHING to where i totally could follow your just what i've been needing, now i'm going on line to order paints and glue etc. Thanks again♓😁
You got this Tina. The fun is in the doing for sure. Plus you learn so much more.
I actually DID do my first pour earlier today! In fact, I did TWO! They were both flip cups with very different colors. I like both of them and cannot wait until they dry so I can varnish and hang them. I'm also in the IT field and enjoy your videos.
You get it Jergie! Those first ones are so nerve wracking but so amazing at the same time.
@@LeftBrainedArtist Absolutely! They're 8x10s and will work up to larger canvases soon. I bought so much paint and supplies during Amazon Prime Days! Lol.
I truly love and adore all of your videos! Although I have already tried paint pouring, it’s been a few months since my last one, and your comment the beginning of this video made me laugh out loud. I just bought everything to make my pouring tray, very inspired by that simple tip in your last couple videos I watched!
Thank you so much! You've got this!
Can't wait to have a play tomorrow. Thanks for your video ❤
Have fun! Let me know how it goes Vikki.
Thank you sir.Youare a genuine teacher.👍😊
It's my pleasure Anthony.
Excellent tutorial, best I’ve seen yet making it the most helpful to date. Thank you, thank you 🙏🏻 now I’ve got this 😍
You're very welcome Linda.
Thumbtacks for leveling !!!
You teach me something new every day 😁 and I thought I was a good “rigger” but that’s super smart, adjust as you want. Easy Peasy
Aaaand, as I like to say,
“ There’s no bad pour, only the one you didn’t attempt. “
It’s sooooooo fun,
( not meant to cause concern and stress 😂 )
Everyone enjoy your pour !!
Thanks again !!!

You can try wall hooks too Julie. You can screw them in and out on the different sides to help level you if you something a little easier to handle.

Stoooooop !!!

Your too handy ! 😂😂
Thanks

Soo excited to try this. Ive been thinking about looking into it, and finally started watching these today, and it looks soooo easy and fun. I have paint, canvases, and some random things around the house, so I'll need to maybe pick up a few things, but today's the day!!
Yes. Today is the day! You'll be glad you start. Pouring is so fun.
Whahahahaha..... exactly 3 seconds into your video and I'M IN LOVE!!! I LOVE YOUR HEARTY, SUPPORTIVE, ENCOURAGING WORDS, I wish you could see my table and I was seriously having an anxiety attack ~ petrified that I will screw up!!!! So..... thank you, thank you!!! From the depth of my heart for gently shoving me forward!! 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘
Messing up is just our way to learn. You've got this!
Great basic knowledge everyone needs
So true. We need to start with the basics so we have a foundation to build upon. Thanks again Marlynda. PS. Love the name.
I just did my first pour it was so fun and you said everything I needed nice and clear thanks a lot 🙏
My pleasure 😊
I’m learning so much from you. And by the way my paint pour containers turned out amazing. My husband drilled a hole threw each end of the PVC piping and and then the cement mixer. And zip tied the pipes on both sides. And made sure it was all level. We made two. And used 5 pipes per container. I made 6 paintings yesterday. Thank You for all the great advice and information. It’s working out so well for me.
That is awesome! Tell your hubby he is a Rockstar Mary. Plus now you can paint to your heart's content.
Best pouring video ever. Thank you
Wow, thank you!
You are an amazing teacher!!!
Wow, thank you Belinda.
Good evening David, thank you for all your informative videos. They are a great help to all beginners of acrylic pouring. I have one question please. When working out how much paint is needed for the canvas size, what percentage of that amount is for the base coat? Thank you and bless you for all the valuable information.🌷
30% of the total give or take.
This is very good information. Thank you. I learned alot. Saving this to go back to. Wont be wasting little bottles of paint anymore.
So true Raeleah. Love your name BTW. I am sure I am saying it wrong though. 8)
You are AWESOME!! Taught me well very unlike other videos that take sooooo long. THANK YOU ♥️
Happy to help!
How did you know?
You all were sending these pouring vibes out the last two weeks. So many people telling me they had stuff but hadn't started. You got this Sandra!
How did you know I have been binge watching UA-cam?🤫😊 Thank you for the encouragement. I was actually set up to start painting when I got a call asking if a couple of my grandkids could stay with me for awhile. Too young to paint with me so I had to put it all away again. Then my camping stuff was in the way. I know. Excuses, excuses. I think I am ready to get it out again. I find these 2 videos to be very helpful. Thank you David. ☮️💖🎶
You got this Marcey. I didn't realize you haven't tried yet.
You're an awesome teacher. Thankyou!
You're very welcome!
Omg I thought we were becoming friends, it's too soon🤪... I want to show you my outcome it is awful 😟😬!

"I know you've been binge watching You Tube.." (shifts uncomfortably in chair)
hehehe It happens to us all.
You read my mind. Good, clear description. I'm planning my first pour today. 🙂
You can do it!
You are reading my mind! Lots of bingeing! But I’m trying to use up my ready to pour stuff before I mix paint. This was very helpful. Thanks
Go for it! So much fun Marylyn.
OMG, YOU POINTED AT ME AND TOLD ME YOU KNEW I WAS BINGE WATCHING, I SHOULD DO MY POUR TODAY, AND I DID , IT WAS AMAZING, WASN'T PERFECT., BUT I'M ELATED. THANK YOU.
