A great idea for someone like me who is just learning. Budget is tight so I’m turning mostly firewood, a lot of red oak. Some of it does have a slight red/pink/brown and all has some spalting that would only add to the piggy. The bark on the red oak is thicker and I don’t think it would stay on though. Thanks for the video, an everyturners item, not an intricate project which would take a limited shop and time guy like me too long to prep and turn.

It's difficult when you are starting in this hobby as there are so many things that you would like to have but when your budget is tight you have to pick them carefully... Good idea. My wife like little piggies, particularly flying ones. I think I may breed her a little passel of flying pigs. (Had to look up a group of pigs.). Figure out something for the wings. Maybe some lighter colored leather for the wings.

Is it possible to have too much fun turning? Because you looked like you where having too much fun. Soon everyone will want to turn so they can have too much fun! Nice pig. By the way, did you know you have a kitty on your van? Thanks for sharing. Have a blessed day.
Hi Calvin... Haha... you can never have too much fun... I really enjoy making these little guys and wish that I had more time to do more... Cat ... well spotted... I am a general builder... Hi Pog and Joe... Thank you both very much... I do find it fun to make these little guys... they don't take too long and people seem to like them... The videos get plenty of views as well which is a bonus... Take care my friends... All the best.....Andy
FYI, 70% rubbing alcohol removes Sharpie really well when you slip. Unfortunately, I don’t know if it would remove that part of your finish. Acrylic craft paint might work for the bottom of the noses. You can cut to the inside of the line of the ears and no sharpie will show. I think that’s such a cute project!
Hi Kitterz... I'm glad that you liked it... it was fun to make... Good tip with the rubbing alcohol... I didn't know that... And the tip on cutting to the inside of the line ... why didn't I think of that... Haha Take care...All the best.....Andy
Loving the videos ….. could you advise me of the “log” condition when turning ? We have a small wood with some Sycamores that need felling … how soon could I use the wood ? Does it need drying , I have heard of people using microwaves … my father used PEG to stabilise, don’t think that is available now … but your pig blank looked quite green. Any advise gratefully received as I am new to the hobby …
Hi David... Thank you very much... Firstly... welcome to what I think is a great hobby... I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do... This was a Hazel branch that I cut down probably about a year ago... It was about 6 foot long and I just leaned it up in the back of my workshop ... So its not completely dry but it's not wet either... You could turn freshly cut timber into this little piggy but you may get some cracks appearing as it dries... Applying a wax finish on the project would help to slow down the drying process... Or if possible you could try to find some fallen branches in your wood that have been down for a while... This would save having to wait for it to dry or turning wet wood... If a branch has been down for longer.. it may have some Spalting in the wood which looks great... There are videos on UA-cam about how to make a wood drying kiln... which dries the timber much quicker... These are made from old fridges and even cardboard boxes... one of these is on my to do list... I have never tried the microwave method so can't advise on that... Sycamore is nice wood to turn... much like Maple ... One thing is for sure... the wood isn't costing you anything so just give it a go... nothing to loose ... gain experience and have fun... I hope that this helps... Take care...All the best.....Andy
That’s brilliant Andy! Great job. I now have another purpose for the multitude of branch shorts that are occupying a corner of the shop. I was getting mightily bored with bird’s mouth bud vases. 😉. I have happily subscribed to the channel. Cheers mate, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Ottawa, 🇨🇦!!!
Hi Dave... Thank you so much and thank you for your subscription... I'm happy that I have given you some alternative ideas for your branches... I have only recently started using them for projects but it is a great source for free timber... I hope that you enjoy making these little guys as much as I have... I hope that its not too cold in Ottawa now... I heard that you've had it bad in Canada... I wish you and yours a very happy new year... Take care...All the best.....Andy
Hi Woody... Thank you very much... The eyes are .... 6mm black plastic safety craft eyes... From Ebay or Amazon... I got mine from Ebay and China... I hope that you enjoy the chicken video... Take care...All the best.....Andy
Hi Andy! Lovely little piggy 🐷 and well solved with all the different body parts 👍🏻 I first thought you might carve a curly tail type of thing into the bottom, just to give the illusion of a tail and to prevent it from being torn out and swallowed if it’s being played with… You see, in my mind I already picture Rexli play with « Andy’s Animal Farm » 🐷🐑🐔 A wooden barn with lots of animals is just the greatest thing for the little ones to play with, so he will love it, I am sure 😊 For the piggy, you could easily make a couple of smaller ones, like piglets, and if you make the hind legs shorter, it would create the illusion of the pig sitting… I think I would love to play with your animal farm myself, if I come to think of it, ha ha 😂 Anyway, lovely idea, and as usual you give prove of your great eye for shapes and proportions 👍🏻👍🏻 I thought at the end, you would offer a small audio « oink oink » but this will have to wait for next time, I suppose 😉 I am being cheeky, please forgive me, but I will tell you that I made the « oink oink » sound myself when you played with it in front of the camera and had a good laugh with it 😂🐷 Anyway… I will call him Herman… For some reason, I have a feeling that this is a male pig… and he looks a bit like the post office guy in our village, ha ha… So I hope you have enjoyed your weekend, Andy, be safe and have a lovely week! Thank you 🙏🏻 Byeeee 👋🏻👋🏻 Jude
Hi Jude... I'm glad that you liked it... I really enjoy making these types of projects... Well done remembering Rex's name... I'm hopeless at remembering.. names..numbers... dates... what I was going to say next... Haha I would love to make a barn and have all the farmyard animals with it... perhaps in a couple of years when Rexli isn't going to eat everything... I do remember that you have a barn for the kids to play with though... You have a lot of ideas about ways to make things... have you thought about getting a little lathe and giving it a go.... it is really good fun... Now I am imagining you laughing and making an oinking noise... Haha... From now on he is officially named ... Herman.... Haha the post guy... they say that everyone has a double somewhere... My weekend was too short as always... I hope that you had a lovely relaxing weekend and have an enjoyable week ahead... Good to hear from you Jude... Take care...All the best.....Andy ... 🐷👋👋👋
@@AndysCornishCreations Hi Andy! So Herman it is then 👍🏻😂 I think we already have a cute little lot of creatures for Rexli’s farm… With Herman the pig, hens Erna and Bertha and the two Highland sisters 🐑🐑 (for whom I have already got names too but I won’t tell you yet, I will comment on the video, ha ha)… all we need now for a decent farm is a dog and a couple of cows, and a cat or two, of course 😎 As for the « little lathe »… I so wish to try it out… but where could I put it? The barn is full of bee stuff, the basement of the house would mean dust everywhere, and the old bandsaw space, which is where I do my sanding and stuff, is not a closed space, so freezing cold… I will have to wait for the 🛸 😉 Well, we will see… Who knows, one day… Have a good run towards the weekend, Andy, take care 🙏🏻 So long, bye for now 👋🏻👋🏻 Jude
Heyup Andy - this was a great fun project thanks for sharing the pigs really cute - could do similar for a hedgehog or a haggis! You said you were leaving some meat on the back was that for the bacon butties? Cheers mate 👍

I have seen these Piggies done without bark on so don't be afraid to experiment...
I also have limited shop time and do try to keep my projects simple, quick and inexpensive...
I hope that you continue to enjoy your new hobby...

Do you live on a farm, Andy? You are creating quite the critter collection! No matter, very cool piggy! Keep'em coming, my friend!

Hi Phil...
I don't live on a farm Phil... but my storage cupboard is beginning to look like a farmyard... Haha
I'm already planning the next one... ( can I get away with an Elephant )

That's cute, Andy. I think the marker around the inside of the ears is a good effect. Take care.

Hi Bill....

A positive attitude.. that's the trick...

Good idea. My wife like little piggies, particularly flying ones. I think I may breed her a little passel of flying pigs. (Had to look up a group of pigs.). Figure out something for the wings. Maybe some lighter colored leather for the wings.
Hi Rob...
Thank you very much...
Its funny how so many people seem to love little Piggies...
I had never heard of a passel of pigs either...
I hope that you have fun making your flying Piggies...
Perhaps goggles and a white scarf. Haha...

You said it is made from hazel wood. So the little piggy should be named Hazel. I really enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing 👍
Hi PJ...
Yes that would be a very good name for it...
I'm glad that you are enjoying my videos...

Nice pig! Make a cardboard template of the ears and use it as a cutting guide. No need for markers.
Hi Rodneygd....
Thank you...
That sounds to me like a good idea... I will do that and keep them for future Piggies...
Take care...All the best.....Andy
Great pig! The shape and countenance reminds me of our Linderöd-pigs we had some years ago and they didn´t have pink tails either... Take care! Claes.
Hi Claes...
Thank you...
I just looked them up and I see the similarities... I wondered why I didn't do a pink tail... Haha

Nice job Andy! I've been trying to make my wife a turtle. Turning a shallow bowl for the shell. Not looking like a turtle. Maybe your creativity could come up with one!
Hi Raymond...

A Turtle is a tricky one...
I have been searching for something but have come up short...

Haha
Take care...All the best.....Andy
Take care...All the best.....Andy
nice andy but it also looks like a clanger, lol.
Hi Indiana...
Thank you...
Haha... well you're not wrong there... ahhhh the Clangers .... classic !!

Haha
I would love to make a barn and have all the farmyard animals with it... perhaps in a couple of years when Rexli isn't going to eat everything...
The barn is full of bee stuff, the basement of the house would mean dust everywhere, and the old bandsaw space, which is where I do my sanding and stuff, is not a closed space, so freezing cold… I will have to wait for the 🛸 😉 Well, we will see… Who knows, one day… Have a good run towards the weekend, Andy, take care 🙏🏻 So long, bye for now 👋🏻👋🏻 Jude
i thought it was going to be a hedgehog at first
Hi Roy...
Haha... a few holes in it's back and spikes in the holes and hey presto we could have your Hedgehog...
