- PAINTING VIDEO DESCRIPTION - This canvas painting tutorial will take you through easy to follow, step-by-step instructions on how to paint this fun and exciting ocean landscape image of "BEACH PEARL" with an energetic feel and storybook look to it. The nacre, or better known as the Mother of Pearl, is the pearl found in the shell of an oyster, and, not only does it symbolizes love, friendship, romance, but it’s often used in mystical work and lore to attract prosperity, and to heighten intuition, psychic sensitivity and imagination. It is believed that this shell pearl offers soothing, motherly protection from negative energy. Considered to be jewels of brides, when given as a gift, the pearl is an expression of one’s eternal commitment and promise of devotion. As a testament and declaration to your feelings for another, this seascape painting will surely have and everlasting meaning behind it. The first lesson you’ll learn in this easy oceanscape painting tutorial is how to use simple painting techniques for blending the background for added depth and atmospheric dimension, using natural and earthy colors to create a tropical ocean feel to your canvas with an out of focus horizon. The next art tip you’ll learn in this seascape canvas painting lesson is how to apply a drybrush, dabbling and stippling method to your canvas to add texture to your beach sand and movement to your ocean waves as they ripple into the shore making you believe that you can feel the sand between your toes as the warm water washes over them. Then, after outlining basic shapes to create your shell and applying a simple base coat to work off of, you’ll learn how to create realistic looking dimension with properly placed highlights and shadows, followed by layering colors to give your seashell texture and body creating a realistic 3-D effect like a photograph. The next step in this canvas painting is to add shadows underneath your crustacean, to not only ground it, but to emphasis the sun as a light source. You’ll jump for joy when you see how easy it is to make your shell come alive with just a few colors, strokes, and outlines. You’ll finish up this fun acyclic painting by painting the shiny pearl sitting inside with brilliant reflections and then you'll sign your masterpiece with your own unique signature. You can personalize this beach painting any way you want; add other shells, such as a starfish or conch, put marine life in the water, such as a mermaid, dolphin or shark, create a more dramatic ocean and add larger waves, or a sunset or sunrise, or add beach flowers, such as, a lily, lotus, water hawthorn or tall beach grass. You could even use these same techniques with other mediums, whether it’s watercolor, oil, or gouache. This is a painting inspired by the power of a summer imagination, so feel free to use yours! Using only 3 brushes and 6 colors we'll create this conversational masterpiece that is sure to compliment any décor. Not just an beautiful painting, but an easy painting for beginners. So, let's get painting and let's get sipping!

I painted it and I loved the result !!! Just a request. When you mention the brushes you use could you make a quick close up? Sometimes I can't see them properly and I get confused. Thank you 🙏 I love your painting.
Hi Michele. I am enjoying your Sip and Paint sessions. How do we you keep your paints from drying out on the palette?
Hi Patti, I use a student grade paint that is very wet as it is, but you can use spray mist if needed. Here is the link to the paint I use: berkshirepaintandsip.squarespace.com/shop
