There’s no doubt that Pixar’s Finding Dory made the clownfish famous. Who can ever forget Charlie, the popular fearless and loving father, who exemplified courage and defied all odds as he crossed an entire ocean conquering all obstacles to rescue his son Dory who was captured by fishermen and sold to a dentist in Sydney, Australia? I think everyone in the world wanted to own a clownfish after watching this movie. But, if you couldn’t own one for whatever reason; can’t afford it, too much maintenance, landlord won’t allow it, spouse doesn’t like it, you own cats, or whatever the reason, now you can have the next best thing-a beautiful painting of one! While following this simple art tutorial, you’ll learn to paint this captivating oceanscape with depth, contrast and brilliant colors, creating a captivating beautiful and vibrant image. The first lesson you’ll learn in this acrylic instruction is how to paint atmospheric dimension in the background using color theory to mix custom colors for your anemones to make the perfect habitat for your brilliant fish in the coral reef sea plants. Don’t worry, you don’t need a degree in Marine Biology to understand this scenery painting and to have fun creating the perfect living environment for your cuddly creature of the sea. In this easy art lesson, you’ll be using a loose blending brushstroke to transition the colors into one another with the intent on creating an inviting underwater world with dimension and balance. Then you will give your flippant fellow form and structure by drawing an easy outline of the fins, gills, flippers and head with chalk and applying a simple base coat as a foundation. You will then create realistic looking form and dimension with properly placed highlights and shadows, followed by layering colors to give your underwater sea-loving swimmer a textured appearance with lots of movement. You will then learn how to add final fine finishing details to give your dainty ocean dweller a 3-D effect like a photograph. You’ll be amazed at how easy it is to make your new aquatic friend come alive with just a few natural colors, easy brush strokes, and drawn outlines. You can easily personalize this simple painting and customize in any way you want-you could paint coral plankton, mollusks, zooplankton, phytoplankton, seaweed, seashells, or small crustaceans. You could even paint other ocean life, such as, different colored tropical fish, a shark, dolphin, jellyfish, crabs, lobsters, or anything your heart desires! Using only 3 brushes and 7 colors we'll create this storybook illustration style conversational masterpiece that is sure to compliment any décor. Canvas: 16x20 stretched primed canvas
Brushes: 1/2 inch flat bristle (large), #8 round synthetic (medium), #4 round synthetic (small)
Acrylic Paint: titanium white, mars black, ultramarine blue, burnt umber, mars black, chrome orange, phthalo green, chrome yellow
Other: white chalk, palette, cup of water for washing brushes, paper towel for drying brushes

STEPS:
1. 1/2 inch bristle brush - Paint background with white, blue and black
2. #8 round brush - Paint first layer to anemone with ocean blue (made in step 1) brown, white
3. Chalk - Draw outline of fish
4. #8 round brush - Paint base coat for fish with black, orange, brown and white
5. #8 round brush - Paint 2nd layer to anemone with phthalo green, yellow, brown, white and ocean blue
6. #4 round brush - Paint 3rd layer to anemone with earth green (made in step 5), teal (made in step 5), brown, yellow and white
7. #4 round brush - Finish eyes with black, white, orange, yellow and brown
8. #4 round brush - Finish face with orange, yellow, brown and white
9. #4 round brush - Finish body with white, brown, orange, yellow, gray (made in step4) and black
10. #4 round brush - Finish fins with orange, yellow, black and white
11. #4 round brush - Sign with black
