Whiteout - Blizzcon 2013 Starcraft movie contest entry [ Machinima ]

- "Whiteout" is a machinima created by me for the Blizzcon 2013 movie contest. I put tons of work into this movie and really tried to push what is possible with machinima, expecially when it comes to Starcraft. Unfortunately, this movie did not win a place at Blizzcon 2013, but nonetheless, Im very proud of this movie and how it turned out.
Thanks alot for the awesome voice talents that are IskatuMesk, Holly Lindin and Gradius - their performances really add alot to this movie! Also, a huge thanks goes out to Proxy/PrintIn, for his amazing work on the M3 plugin for Blender. Without it, this machinima would have not been possible!
If you like it, please give me some feedback, comment, rate it, and maybe even subscribe :) - Фільми й анімація
-Whats your name, Marine?
- Call me Marine
:D
i thought he said "Whats your name maira?"
very touching... CLOSE THE FUCKING HELMETS IT HELPS AGAINST THE COLD.
exactly what I thought! :)
Had to scroll to far.
Yeah rlly wtf
maybe the helms don't protect against temputure, but that wouldn't make sense
Fact
Lol the viking was like "peace bitches!" jets out to space
As with "Rebirth", the voice acting is the biggest problem. Additionally:
- the initial zoom-in should've been slower so we have time to take in the post-battle scenery and get in the appropriate mood
- the helmet visors should've been closed for most of the film and maybe there could've been some extra drama about opening them toward the end (e.g. to see a human face one last time before death)
- the rescue party should have had at least 1-2 more people (medics maybe?) quickly gathering around the wounded to check on them and dislodge them out of there ASAP, with only 2-3 marines standing around establishing a perimeter; as it is it's just one marine getting close to take a look while all the others are standing around like idiots.
All that for 50 minerals
lol they should've gone for the spot with 3 endless vespene geysers and 20 endless mineral fields on the other side of the world from the hive xD
THIS SHOULD BE A FULL MOVIE!
Im glad you like it this much :D! However, while this is not a feature length movie, I actually made a feature length Starcraft movie called "Rebirth of the Swarm". While it is nowhere near the quality of Whiteout, you might enjoy it, nonetheless! Check it out on my channel!
Wow. What if the colonel wasn't alive at all, and she only imagine talking to him because she was hallucinating.
Interesting interpretation.
what about of the light shooting?
Kar Ibanez maybe se imagen that too, and the rescue team also had halluccinations
Desmond Nguyen good find fuck
+CrainyCreation Late to the party, just found this. Nice job. I have to agree with those who complain that a female marine is somewhat unStarcrafty, so I'm fixing it mentally by imagining her a ghost instead, having survived the battle by losing consciousness while cloaked.
The Colonel's voice sounded a little less professional than I hoped from a...well Colonel.
But overall this is one of the best things I've seen.
Good work.
About that helmet quip, I know from the official wiki for CMC armor, the Helmet is left open outside combat for power conservation, so its a trade-off between saving power for other systems such as on board medical systems and knowing you'd be alive for a certain time, but having no power after in a very hostile environment. And of course you have no idea when help will come (and off course it gives human faces and contact).
i loved it aside from the starting voice acting from the colonel
This is really good, why haven't I heard about this in StarCraft communities? Voices needs improvement, but everything else is beyond my expectation. Great work.
Good work. Wish there were Imperial Guard vid casts like that.
this is truly impressive,well done
Really impressive dude.....def best fan-made starcraft movie ive seen.
This is epic. I love to wish for more videos.
great job again guys and girls. I like the upgrade keep up the great work
Keep up the good work. Hope to see many more that are even better.
Great stuff MOAR! ... please.
This was really well done, dude.
These are so good :)
Keep up the fantastic work, Crainy ^.^
Awesome work!
Amazing!... love your work... make more of this
All I gotta say is, keep this quality work up. Now I must say, some of the voice was a little odd, but voice acting is always one of the hardest things to nail with a production. My suggestion is to do a space battle, monotone voicing is acceptable with any type of arial combat scenes. This can give you time to find the voices you need/want. Switching between pilot comms and crew/passenger speech. I really like your videos though, keep it up. You are truly getting somewhere with this.
FABOLOUS TRULY AMAZING
great film, thank you :)
great work!
man fuck the contest make a web series out of this.
Agreed
I also agree
***** Do the maths... it normally takes a week for 10 seconds of animation.
Awesome, encore encore.
That is a really good video, and like someone else already said.. It could be a sc 2 cinematic! Continue your great work!
Awesome job mate.
Great job!
Amazing video!
amazing work please a movie!!
Very well done. I felt as though I was there.
+ken badgley Great, Im very glad you like it!
Ive heard this interpretation before, and while I think its an interesting idea, it is not what is intended, no.
This is fantastic. It deserves more views. Sorry it didn't get placed.
woow! this is very impressive
awesome, yeah just awesome
Hits you right in the feels. Wish there was more flip flop between search teams, revealing a larger swarm presence that died out in the storms, and more information on Jess and the Colonel. There screams a story to be told. I'm curious if you ever thought about cutting some more into it in a new video. What with technology advancing, and the completion of the SC2 trilogy, you have more material and means to flesh it out.
It's brilliant how it is regardless. Makes me think about how loyal your soldiers are while playing the game, how they view you. It is quite a thought provoker when you start traveling down the possibilities....
lol, coronal
Ben Kim
several months later. I also think I was tired when I wrote that, heading for bed. Thank you for pointing it out so I can fix it. ^_^
Awesome work man! Keep it up!
Thanks alot, Im glad you like it!
aww, i thought this was gonna be longer, like the first part as a flashback and now the female marine is like top brass. oh well. good quality.
Ow... right in the feelings.
This is touching, and I'm glad the commander sent a dropship to take the marines away.
Thanks, Im glad you like it.
CrainyCreation
It was a pleasure to watch =) Thanks for making it!
AWESOME
Y'all are reaaaally hammin' up the dialogue.
EPIC
The scenes between the freezing marines is like when Optimus and Arcee were stranded in the arctic in transformers prime
Yeah, I took inspiration from that scene for this short. Good catch.
awesome! :)
A very good story i love it i hope will got new story again
Its amazing this seen actually happend in transformers prime when optimus prime and arcee were scouting for acient artifacts in antarctica however they're bridge transportation got destroyed and they stock at the antarctica like that but optimus didnt died they were alive still
NICE !!!!
you made this in blender? No Way! Extrodinary!
this is incredible!!!
this might as well be a starcraft 2 cinematic!!
This is great but it does not come close to a SCII cinematic.
smileyssd its a close second
Lordgarretindustries it works but where would it be set in the game
josue betances possibly on an Ice-based world
hell ya
very good.
the commander never leaves his troops behind..... expect for kerrigan :P
the commander doesn't mensk does
... has he said that I read that comment wow timeing
this is the best starcraft machinima i have ever seen, one thing bothers me, the colonel's voice is too robotic but that is the only thing i see wrong with it great work
that was very impressive and well done, however the voices for the 2 main character left much to be desired, especially the colonel
Yeah, it sounded very scripted and non-marine like.
Very gripping dialog. Reminds me of the end of Schindler's List. "A person, Stern!"
Im honored, thanks!
Very well done. Now call me crazy, but for some strange reason that ending totally reminded me of Titanic... The whole end tidbit where Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in the water... Cold... Yeah. I mean both take place in the cold, just with a lot less water... More land. And the whole assault part is the "just the tip of the iceberg" (no pun intended) But yeah! Don't get me wrong tho, very well done.
Jonathon Tucker Lol, alright, thanks, glad you like it!
Fantastic work. It's very impressive and clear that you've poured so much energy, dedication and passion into this short film.
Have you only used the SC II editor for this, or were there additional programs involved (if so, which ones)?
MESK WAS THE COLONEL????????
OMG IS SOOOOO COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL!!!!!!
I love Mesk's works, but this was awesome too!
Go on guys! There is a purpose in that!
Im glad you like it! Mesk was actually literally a last minute addition to the movie - he was emergency cast to take over the role of the colonel which was supposed to be given to another actor, but that actor just vanished and never showed up to do his lines. I really owe IskatuMesk for helping me out on such a super short notice.
Mesk is good in this :)
He mades cool voice overs and mods as well :)
When did the marines speech turn monotone and ssslloooww ugh i fell asleep twice... in a five minute movie!
good video :D
Goddam amazing
Dang, he was almost there!
Nicely done. Will there be more ?
Ok, yeah, leave no soldier behind!
MOAR MOAR MOAR MOAR MOAR!
DAT ENDING :( excellent vid.
I didn't wanted the colonel to die, but I understand the message. I liked the dialogue, although I didn't like to see a female marine, and the production is perfect. For a warrior, the fact the your superior cares about you is one of the most important things to think about.
That Viking is bastard leaving those marines behind, but anyway it is an awesome cinematic :-)
then he felt guilty and landed in front of the Ultralisk from HOTS intro... hahaha
It actually isnt supposed to be him leaving the marines behind, it was him switching over to an air support role. But yeah, I know what you are getting at ^^
+CrainyCreation I can't see why unless either A: there's unseen air zerg or B:to attack the ultralisks
that's viking doesn't have a choice Reaper
What did you use to make this? It's truly impressive!
Its really good! If conditions are that extreme though, shouldn't they keep their visors down?
I need to ask... ¿do you happen to know how to make the team color of the unit models to work in 3ds max?
For a moment there I thought
when the camera turned to the commander, it would be of the ship leaving, letting the marines freeze to death.
finally terrans win in a video
(Good work. I see the criticisms others have of it, and understand, however I personally do not care. I am impressed with the animation and motion, and enjoy this regardless.)
Im glad you like it!
Some of the scenes in this were taken almost directly from Transformers Prime Season 1 episode 7
What i remembered the marines are but clones of hardened criminals. They send thousands to their doom and abandom them prior to completion of mission. :p
No. A lot of marines are resocialized criminals.
No. A lot of marines are resocialized criminals.
nice! 굿!
"our best option now is to repopulate, quick into the barracks" and that's how marines are born
It's a little short but it's good. I like it!
Wow someone finnaly discovered how to use those SM models.
First, this is fantastic! Second, I need to ask, how did you do this? The models, the environment, the animation?? Are you able to use the SC2 Map Editor to manipulate everything like that? Or you modeled and animated everything in a 3D application like Maya or Max?? Thank you!
Im glad you like it :)
The animations and some of the models were done in Blender, then put into SC2 where I made the enviroment and set up the shots and then used After Effects to composite the shots together.
CrainyCreation Thanks for the reply! So in SC2 Editor you can actually animate cameras into the environment but not models and buildings?
you maked this? if... great work and keep it up
da feels :'((
Did you do the face animations yourself? Nice!
What are all those blinky lights?
genial
Thanks :)
sad ending.. make me cry for 3 days, and even more.
but the ending reminds me of taintanic
how did you make this
the commander never leaves his troops behind
if Mengsk had that thought, there would be no starcraft
Phuong Nguyen let me correct that there would not be starcraft2
Yeah no sc2
Nice animation. Voice acting seemed alittle flat, if they were CMC that'd be no issue, all ground troups are Neural Brands but given you seemed to be going for UED...*shrugs*. I liked the combat action sequences, but the machinima was too short with too little background to be touching. Couldn't care enough about the Colonel to care that he died or Jess to be glad that she lived.
Decent work though. I think you'd have done better with a longer story.
Is the guy wiv 1 glowin eye, Stukov???
there actually should be maps with a tag called extreme meaning that things would happen like
on a cold world a freeze storm freezing all units unless you get a very costy upgrade for them and o lave worlds there would be lava surges and on jungle planets groups of animals come out and attack anything they see apart from their own species and there could be diffrent species
THIS IS A VERY GOOD MODE AND CAN BE FOR FUN EXTREME MATCH UPS
Or at the base cemetery if they have?
wow the cost of wars and it's much bigger when it's that big
WoW
and don't forget Sgt. Bergdahl as the future don't leave our men behind.
here you go, female space marine!
bad ass
