I was the lead programmer on the PC version of this game. Honestly I wish I could remember why we didn't have PC gamepad support, and the collision code was exactly the same between consoles and PC. Not sure why there are all those clipping issues, probably frame rate differences, but you're welcome. It's great seeing the love still being shown for this game. Great documentary and unbelievable runs.
Hey! Chrix here, myself and a few others have been spending time looking into this game and its beta/history, do you think you'd be willing to answer some questions or potentially do a QnA with some of us?
Don't even worry about the clipping issues. I bought this on PC so long ago and shelved it for a really long time. When I finally played it I kicked myself for not doing so earlier. It's a damn fun game, and you guys did well.
@@snbrmn9015 if he's,not does that ruin your day? Just because you have done nothing with your life, and feel the need to lie on the internet(obvious because you suspect it of others) does not mean that is what the average person does. Oh, and source: the credits at the end of the game, and probably online somewhere. A source you are too lazy to look up
So after re-watching this, I just really want to say - Thank you for representing me the way you did. It's easy to mock my stubbornness in sticking with old routes, but you went out of your way to explain my mindset as well as the benefits that it can grant over time. Aside from just that, I love this video. It's an amazing showcase of so many people working together in different ways to push the game as far as we can, and I know this isn't the end of our story.
I read the spoiler that there was a huge twist in this video, but didn’t know what the twist itself was. I spent the whole video thinking world record contestants perhaps planned to murder each other, and even that, didn’t prepare me for what the actual twist was. Beautiful video, beautiful game, and amazing presentation. Congratulations on a master piece.
@@shadowman5670 it's a relatively new word. If I recall correctly, it's the realization that everyone around you is leading a life that is just as complicated, nuanced, and unique as the one you lead.
That twist got me. Possibly the most well produced speedrun documentary I've ever watched, I actually found myself invested in the stakes the runners had. Amazing work.
I'm going to be honest, this is everything I've ever wanted in a speedrunning Doc - it's absolutely so apparent that you've spent countless hours looking through exact changes to the routes and new discoveries. To tie up all of this while making it engaging and carry the gravitas of just how hard you and your contemporaries in the scene worked is an absolute feat. Thank you for this!
Them being the route, does not mean that they wouldn't have to research to make sure they weren't misremembering dates and the people who originally discovered, or re-discovered forgotten tricks. Example, it would be a dick move to say "ye in october of that year, that person discovered this" when the truth is that someone else discovered it years earlier, but no setup or a shit unreliable setup made nobody wanted to grind said trick. @@PenelopeNaomi
This one forced me to take a break, like literally 10 minutes earlier I was thinking how is author related to community, since he had to do a shitton of research for that vid. And then It turns out he was here all along :0
@@cubicinfinity2 people seem to forget nowadays, that if you have FUN playing a game, who the HELL CARES if other people don’t like it/aren’t happy with it? Enjoying yourself should come first no matter what!
I watched this video because I love listening to Speedrun histories but also because this comment had me so so so curious I finally got to it and I don't think I've said "wait what?? WHAT??" out loud in a hot hot minute but this was definitely deserving of that I was totally blindsided and definitely adds to the amazing quality of the video, the speedrunners who love it, and the charm of the game itself

Never have I literally gasped to a documentary. What an unreal reveal over half way through the video. Phenomenal work on this! Worth every second of watching and now The Hobbit has become one of my favorite speedruns I've learned of.
I wasn't expecting such a heartfelt, sincere outro like that. Honestly got me really emotional. I'm so glad to have watched this, it was so enjoyable watching all of this put together. You did a fantastic job here, and all the work you put in to make the game you love stand out.
This ain’t a flop, bro. What flop? This video was insanely engaging, and I’m not even a speed runner (or much of a gamer, even). Was worth all the effort, dude. What a fricking ride, haha. Was really clear to discern the different timelines - a massive accomplishment granted the sheer number of dates, personalities, and accomplishments. Congrats on successfully making every participant in your doco feel like an anime protagonist, lmao. What an sick narrative, yo~ A+!
@@AustinViolence *SPOILER* the creator of the video being one of the WR contestants himself, he talked about himself in third person for the first half of the video in order not to reveal it. Fantastic video, MKarma!
1:30:39 Possibly greatest cinematic reveal I've seen. Also kind of amazing how these records get beaten whenever a player is the most non-chalant/relaxed VS when they're seriously trying to beat it. Awesome vid.
It was like watching DBZ mfs left the platform for years and came back super powered (irage/mkarma) or there was the absolute monster that seemed unstoppable in Schneider this whole vid was just insane…
At the beginning: He died 3 times on this cliff but didn't do bad overall so it was a world record Later: He wiggled the camera for a frame which killed the run It is always cool to see how with every new optimization the speedrun becomes more sophisticate and close to perfect. Incredible story and video, probably one of the bests I've seen on youtube
You have no idea how much i appreciate this comment. I used to speedrun portal in its infancy, and i soon stopped being able to compete because i wasnt mechanically gifted enough.
Thank you for being a part of such an incredible story. You pushed so hard. You all are so talented. Your dedication is crazy. Keep on it. Boundary breaking is so special.
I've been trying for the last 15 minutes to write a comment about how absolutely fantastic this video is but I'm still speechless, peak speedrunning documentary.
For a year now this video has never left my mind, if I could wipe my memory and watch it again for the first time I would in a heartbeat. This is genuinely one of my favourite videos on YT
Hah! I just did _exactly_ that!🤣 That's funny! I am watching it for the second time, and had forgotten most of it. So much so, that when it now came time for the plot twist, I had _completely_ forgotten it! To the point that even after reading a comment just above yours, saying the plot twist was the best he'd seen, I _still_ didn't remember! And I was completely caught off guard and by surprise! It's not all sprinkles and rainbows though. I smoked _a lot_ of cannabis, and did _a lot_ of drugs to get this bad memory. And it doesn't really help with much else than re-consuming media. So.. =/ But yeah, it's a good piece of media!
I never played the hobbit, I didn't even know of its existence, but I always like to see a world record history of any game. This is a masterpiece, I can't express how much I enjoyed watching it. Having no idea what the current wr of the game was great, I enjoyed the story and got excited for every achievement you told. The revelation at minute 1:30:39 was shocking, I didn't expect it at all. Thank you very much for making this video and congratulations to all the runners who participated in this magnificent story and this game, I am going to have to play it and try the speedrun.
This comment is exactly my situation. And as a fan of speedrunning and Summoning Salt- Style history and progression videos, I'm blown away by this documentary. The editing is great, the writing is great, the music is great (I'm a massive fan of Wintergatan, so gasped at their music almost as much as I did the twist, which I'll have you know, covered me in goosebumps and left me giggling), and this run I great. Very well done sir.
@@persydiangelo8461 I full heartedly agree. What a ride. Even stories about speedrunning histories, as good as they are when SS and others tell them, are a different class when you see it in the eyes of someone who actually ran them in top 5 for so long. Everyone talks about the twist, but the last 30min right around the mine carts was the shocking and amazing segment to me. It was such a trip.
I summon the power of the UA-cam algorithm-this video tells a better story than 90% of the movies that have been produced in the last decade. Well worth the listen-10/10.
@@MKarma The sheer amount of editing and love for the history of the community’s in this vid is really heartwarming, glad you were able to share the story
This is a beefy video but one of the best (if not the best period) speedrun history videos I've ever seen. None of the time is wasted and it covers literally every major development of Hobbit speedruns.
I'm not a speedrunner, but i absolutely love watching history of speedrunning videos. i love the drama of new skips / tricks getting discovered and used. and GIRL. when you revealed the identity of iRule... i lost my mind. i was GAGGED. that was so masterful, thank you for the drama, and thank you for your contribution to the speedrunning community and for making this awesome video! much love!
also it is by no means too long, i absolutely love long video essays haha, the longer the better tbh! especially when they are well written and edited like this one. well done!
This. This was beautifully crafted. 10/10 On the Twist, 10/10 on the structure, 10/10 on the representation of every major player in the history of the speedruns. Absolutely glorious. Subscribed.
Back around 2013 or 2014 when you had the WR, I remember you taking your own free time to actually teach/tutor me on how to speedrun the game, I didn't make much from it, and I was just a dumb kid just getting into high school at the time. It's cool looking back on that still though, so thanks for the experience and time you took to help some random kid who was just curious and having fun with speedrunning

This is a true masterpiece. The main story of the unknown hero, the reveal and finally the "retirement" and support of his competitor. I love the storytelling and even though I've never played the game it feels like i did.
I don't normally comment on UA-cam videos and I'm not really actively involved in speed running any games, and I've never played The Hobbit game, but this is one of the best produced videos I've ever seen on UA-cam. I'm a big fan of speedrun documentary content and this was absolutely phenomenal. The twist everyone was talking about blew my mind. What a fantastic video I'm very impressed with how much work went into this and keep up the amazing work!
Interesting how you basically gave the important aspects of every speedrun to us instead of giving a vague description of the improvements. I can imagine how hype that first teleport trick with black arrow was. But I feel like I will watch this video again after I have seen the game and speedruns of it because of how deep this goes into the history.
I just wanna commend you for being so genuinely positive about all the runners here, even as one of the runners yourself. I really found myself rooting for each new person every time you introduced one! Thanks so much for the video
It doesn't matter how obscure a game is, when someone puts as much love and attention into a topic and video as you've done here, people will flock to it. Fantastic video mate!
HOLY FUCK that twist was insane. i was literally just listening to this in the background but got really committed and literally said "WHAT!?" outloud with that reveal
Very funny you mention it because I read this comment before the twist and when the twist came I said "WHAT?" out loud, I just remembered this comment and said to myself "wow the twist really was insane"
"Unfortunately Aceprune died..." Me: oh no "... in Over Hill and Under Hill by falling down during the stone giants section" Me: Oh. Oh yeah, of course.
I’ve never had that kind of reaction before it had been put that way haha. I think it was because of the visual cut with the emotional delivery of “unfortunately”. There is also a bit more of a pause that would be indicative of true tragedy. I think the portrayal of the kind of emotional crush from that happening was too good for the gravity of the situation. lol. I will say though... I wonder how many incredible runs, glitches, pov’s and contributions we missed because people just quietly died and their community had no way to know, or rather that no one was able to inform the community because individuals had no connection in a physical space outside of the community. The though of it got me a little ngl.
Ok, so, take this however you choose. I am a UA-cam addicted, however I tend not to watch too many uploads over 60min. This is a whole new level. I’ve never played The Hobbit, I’ve only watched the occasional Mario64, OoT and Halo Speedrun. I watched your amazing movie from start to finish. NonStop, no breaks, and loved it. You have created something with plot lines across a timeline, with alternate timelines and (no spoilers) I am so happy I stayed away from the comments and the scripted twists are executed so well. I completely agree with you’re creative decisions. Thank you so much for taking such incredible effort to make this incredible documentary and sharing this with a new community, and thank you to all the other members listed on the video for pushing each other forward to create the base plot to be able to write this masterpiece.
There are other speedrun progress documentaries made by active speedrunners of the game, too. Don't remember any games(or names), though. But they're out there.
Well I came here thanks to the algorythm, but not because it recommended it to me but rather because for whatever reason this video is sending lots of traffic into my runs and I have no connection to the hobbit whatsoever
I love things like Summoning Salt videos so this was no surprise to get in my feed, but what I didn’t expect was the quality. I took a chance on a 2 1/2 hr video and I am not disappointed. I also vote more please yes please document how incredible this sub section of speedrunning is as a culture within video games!
If you get around to reading this; I'm a sucker for documentaries, and stumbling upon this at 7AM when I couldn't sleep has been one of the best UA-cam journeys I'm glad I stumbled upon. I'm sure everyone has mentioned the twist was one of the best done ever in a documentary, but for me, you're humility as a person and seeing your personal growth in how you talk about yourself and others in the community has been the biggest thing that stuck out to me. To be able to call yourself out on your past pride/mistakes in general is never a fun thing as a human. Literally after the reveal, I was mesmerized by your voice. The main thought was, "no way this is actually the guy who quit a while back... it's not the same guy?..." but you've changed and grown up wonderfully, and this documentary proved it. I had no care or interest in this game, and I may never touch it because I have too many other games I'm invested in; but this journey, this game, this documentary, I will always remember and definitely watch again because of how well done it is. Thank you for this awesome video, and I wish you well on your journey of speed-running and cultivating the awesome community that you have : D
Just so you know, I think the video's length is the reason why I clicked on this one. When people spend this much time in this kind of content, I know it will be quality, and much more immersive than a fifteen minutes summary. Beautiful video overall, I didn't know this game at all (which honestly looks great), and I had an amazing time watching !
This is honestly better than most big budget sport documentaries i've seen. I'm glad I clicked on this video, almost ignored it for it's long duration. You have a talent for storytelling and editting. You made a 2h40 video with 0 boring segments.
This is one of the most engaging documentaries I've ever seen - from the crystal clear timeline to the breakdown of individual tricks to the uninterrupted montages of sweet, sweet gameplay. Fantastic showcase of a game and a community, and it really speaks to the Hobbit community in general that it could inspire such a comprehensive labor of love like this video. I loved how long this was and I'm excited to see whatever comes next!
I fell asleep watching some easteregg videos, then I woke up to this playing and was so caught up in the story I could not even try to sleep until I saw it through. Hollywood should take notes on how to make a wholesome and engaging story.
Absolutely captivating! To both find out my childhood game has a speedrunning community and be completely engrossed in its years of rich history was a joy. My eyes were glued to the screen through the whole thing, and the twist in the middle damn near floored me with how well you set it up. Bravo!
Holy shit, there is no fucking way anyone and I mean anyone not knowing the hobbit community at all couldve predicted this twist. Your writing is sick and I loved every bit of the video. Nice stuff!
1:35:55 to 11:52 All that with in the last 18 years. You guys basically broke this game down to its core and figured everything about it. I’m am truly impressed and the video is amazing. Congratulations guys!
I don't watch speedruns, never heard of this game, don't know why I clicked on the video. But I watched 2 hours and 42 minutes about speedrunning a game i've never heard of and it was pretty great. Nice work :)
Yo I just watched this from critical. Even nine months later I just wanted to tell you you just such a great job on this masterpiece. It’s awesome to see you found something you and your community was so passionate about. It’s nice seeing that treated with such respect.
I played this game as a kid. Never got past the arkenstone level, then lost my copy of the game. Even in my adult years, I’ve tried to find it to no avail. I love this game, and am amazed to learn about the deep and rich history the speedrunning community has created for it. You guys are the best.
You honestly didn't miss much. It's really not a great game. I've played 90s games that still hold up to this day, but this is not one of those hidden gems.
@@monkeysk8er33 it’s funny how it’s such a mailable and fascinating speedrunning game that transcended being at best a mediocre and dated vanilla playthrough. I actually appreciate things like that. I’m reminded in a small way of Summoning Salt’s documentary of choco mountain in Mario cart 64. Never one of my favorites despite being a top 15% at worst of non professional/speedrunning players because of the linear nature of the high walls and narrow track. I always preferred almost any other track that let people come back and do unexpected moves that keep it fresh for me. The track really is be in first, or you ain’t winning... but the speedrunning aspect makes the lore one of my favorites from an objective standpoint. I’ll never pick that track on purpose on my N64 game night we have, I’ll never try running the speedrun tactics that make it unique... but I have grown to respect it in a way I never would have without those players running it over and over until it became more than the developers ever dreamed. I’m not saying you’re incorrect, but sometimes we don’t appreciate code and data in games as developers intended... but the gem comes out when you can look at it an another way.
Seeing that certain speedrunner grow not only as a speedrunner but also as a person was my favourite part of this. That person should be very proud of their accomplishments and contributions to the community :D
Bilbo: I want an adventure! Bilbo, 11 minutes, 57 seconds and 433 milliseconds later: All done! Never doing that again. Great video! I loved seeing the history you shared in a community I'm not very familiar with.
This is a MASTERPIECE! Even though I've never even heard of this game before this documentary was really interesting for some reason. Solid storytelling and great music. Thank you.
Every so often you find a video that you just cannot stop thinking about, and you just keep rewatching over and over again. This video is like that for me, absolutely astounding quality, the storyline, crystal clear mechanical explanations, the reveal, and the montages all add up to one of, if not, the best video's on UA-cam that I have ever seen. Thank you for this piece of art.
Of all of the speedrunning documentaries I've seen, this is one of the very best, if not the very best. You legit forced a surprised Pikachu giggle out of me with that revelation halfway through the video. This is the story of a community's long journey to complete their magnum opus, as told by the greatest runner in the game's history, with no stones left unturned. I had never even known that this game existed, yet I was absolutely captivated by the many different characters and arcs that emerged throughout. Absolutely and truly remarkable.
2 years later. I’ve never speed ran a game. Even so, this video is amazing and I watched it the entire way through. I always kind of figured speed running was really competitive and cause a lot of “beef” between runners, this changed my perspective completely hearing how you guys came together collectively to make runs as a whole faster, makes me want to run something.
I can not believe that you don’t have experience with these kinds of videos. This felt so professionally made in every aspect and had me hooked the whole way through. Amazing job, and thank you for sharing this incredible story with all of us!
I’ve watched speedrun documentaries before but WOW you took a documentary and made it into a legitimate short film with character development, conflict, revelation, and just an overall BEAUTIFUL orchestration of your personal story. I absolutely LOVE this, and thank you for showing how a game I used to play with my sister (though we couldn’t ever get past the trolls) was so much more than I could’ve ever imagined.
@@usedTNT I suppose you do have a point. I think I was more referring to the plot of the documentary being the “short film” while the actual facts and details regarding the speedrunning history seemed more like filler if you were more focused on finding plot twists and whatnot in the presentation. Nonetheless this was done in a spectacular manner and I’m thankful I’m not part of this community
Always loved this game as a kid (and still do), and only just discovered this video. What a masterpiece this is, it kept me hooked for the whole length of it. So much work has been put into this, and you can see it really payed off. Big props for making this, all your effort was definitely worth it. Thanks for creating one of my favorite UA-cam videos of all time.
This was so wholesome. I always love when a speedrun community completely comes together to put all their effort behind one runner. I think about the MarioKart 64 community doing it's best to prevent one player from holding all the records at one time, and then appreciate stories like this more as a consequence.
I've watched this two nights in a row to help me sleep. That's not to say this is boring by any means. It's the exact opposite. It's a fantastic deep dive into the intricacies of an old game that brought hundreds joy! You did an amazing job on this video, and I pray it brings you success in the future of your career!
I do this with legend of Zelda reviews. I have played through almost every game and appreciate other view points, but I can close my eyes and listen because I HAVE played it, and it calms me into sleep almost every time. It’s way better than ASMR. Lol
I've never heard of this game before until this video. I don't participate in speed runs myself, but I love watching others do it. It's always very interesting. I also love how saving "minutes" near the infancy of this run was impressive, but became more impressive as the runs got closer and closer. To the point where a few "seconds" were really all that mattered to make a break a run. W community, W players, W game, W video.
let me just take a moment to say the hobbit game isnt just amazing for speedrunning IT'S. AMAZING PERIOD hands down one of the best middle earth Games and its dirt MORE PEOPLE NEED TO PLAY THIS!!!!
This was an absolute standout video in one of my favourite genres. I loved how in-depth and personal it was, and the length suited me just fine. I clicked having never heard of the game before, and by the end I almost felt like an honorary member of the community. Stellar work, MKarma!
Simpleflips appearing on this video felt like a celebrity guest cameo in a tv show and im all here for it (Also him forgetting the speedrun route for the final level and doing the normal route seems like a bit he would totally do lmao)
Greatest speedrun documentary I've ever seen, if not the best UA-cam documentary in general. I was one of the many who stumbled across Hobbit speedruns during GDQ by accident (another game I was interested in watching had its time slot shifted for the Hobbit!) and have enjoyed watching since. Thank you so much for this awesome story!
That nearly 3 hour timestamp really doesn't matter much if you can keep the viewers transfixed the whole way through. I don't know how you did it, but this is one of the best documentaries I've ever watched. I wasn't planning on watching the whole thing but I had to. You wove the story so well and I never felt like I needed to put the rest off for later or anything. Now I wanna make a video like this, I just don't know what it'll be about lmao Keep up the great work dude!
This is how I felt. I watch summoning salt so I already enjoy speedrunning documentaries, but had told myself I would give it a chance at least 20-25 min to feel out this new (to me) creator and I’m so glad I did. I hope he keeps making more. What a ride.
As someone who had no idea of how indepth this Speedrun was, holy crap this documentary of the history of the game is insane. You did a damn good job explaining everything about each system's run and giving each top contender their history as well. You should be proud of how well written and produced the whole video came out to be
I saw the trailer for this game as a kid and finally got it on PC after begging for at least a year. I have no idea how many times I've played it. My siblings and I found some of the glitches mentioned in this video, along with some that were completely useless. Like Bilbo dramatically free-falling through the ground into a white void and then popping right back up if you "wiggle clip" him into the post of the Green Dragon sign. We never came up with terms like "slash-jump," "long-jump-glitch," or "wiggle clipping" (my favorite.) Just never thought to do it. So, it's hilarious and amazing to see. Thank you for making this. It's so well-made regardless of the audience, but it really gave me some nostalgic joy.
8:00 "Unfortunately, Aceprune died" I actually gasped before you continued to explain that he died IN GAME, slowing the run down. Something about the pacing and build up to you saying that totally made me think, just for a moment, that you meant IRL!
This video had me smiling from start to finish, the overwhelming feeling of wholesome rivalry and excitement that stays consistent throughout, makes for an experience and education that is rewarding as well as a great template for how to cultivate the best in oneself and others. Ive never touched this game, but I felt drawn into this the more I watched, congratulations on producing this work of art, its a masterpiece.
This is honestly my favorite type of video. With all the bans and deletions and defunct websites and out-of-print games that the Internet experiences over time, this sort of video is a valuable encapsulation of a segment of history which could otherwise have been forgotten or never known about by most people. Thank you for the incredible 2h 40min of content. I'm sure it took over 10x that amount of time to research and produce. I remember speed-running Super Mario 3 back in the early 90's, not even knowing speed running was a thing, but thinking it was pretty cool to beat it on my own in under half an hour. The Internet obviously changed everything, and such an incredible amount of time and effort is put into discovering and exploiting glitches for the sake of beating the fastest run. It's still a niche interest which has room to grow!
Major props to Schneider he was there for a long time fighting even when chrix was breaking records. And the Schneider even got to hold the lead and continue to take it back. What a legend.
Everything about this is phenomenal. The community, the record runs, the sgdq showcasing... This video is great quality, very entertaining, and informative and the music throughout the video is so sick. I'd like to bump it on the car stereo while cruising. Edit: Even the comment section is fire. Nice end to my first day back to work after the new year. Happy new year hoping 2024 is a killer year for the speed running community!!
Hey, until your video, I didn’t t even know that Game Cube had a Hobbit game, and I watched your whole video. All of you have worked so hard to improve on speed runs for the Hobbit and built a community. I’m not a speed runner myself, but I appreciate what you all have done here worldwide. Congratulations to Shocskter and to you. 💖
I really respect how you guys create an e-sport out of videogames (actually several categories, which makes it even more cool). It's fascinating. And I also very much appreciate your work at speedrun events for charity, to help the sick and dying. That's so noble. I love the speedrunning community for all it does. Thanks for this doc - it was great.
I loved this game when I was younger, and while I know nothing about speedrunning, it was just fascinating to hear MKarma go over all the info and explain everything so that I could easily understand it all. I have to keep checking the time of the video because I kept thinking there was no way it could possibly get any lower, then seeing I was only a third of the way through. Fantastic work to everyone involved on this video!
Saw this last night in my recommendations and thought to myself: "Although I love speedruns almost 3 hours is way too long." Woke up this morning and said to myself: "If the movement is actually interesting this could be a good watch." Me right now: "This is actually better edited and more engaging than Peter Jackson's The Hobbit." Also epic plot twist at the end of "Chapter 1" that doesn't make you feel cheated on. Kudos to you for writing this, and sourcing the clips and appropriate music for each section, must have taken you months!
Holy hell man. I've been thinking about making a chess documentary on how it's blown up over the last few years and all its major moments, but I've been really scared and told myself "I have no experience it'll be terrible" and all of this. Seeing that you made this documentary without being a film maker or even an active youtuber is really encouraging for me, and I'm going to start researching.
I heard this knowing the twist due to another documentary elsewhere. It was still well done and beautifully executed because I didn't know when the reveal would occur. Thank you for existing, it's fun to see this sort of passion and a willingness to illuminate people's povs with this stuff.
I watched this entire documentary, start to finish, no breaks, no playing on my phone. After a bit I grabbed the remote to see how long I've been watching. IT WAS 1:21:00, I was completely entranced, so I unpaused and continued. After I finished watching this on my TV, I went to my phone to read then comments. I've been reading them now for the past 30 minutes, I was so moved by this doc that I wanted to leave a comment, even though I NEVER leave comments on ANY media site period. This doc is better than multimillion $ production movies bro!!! No joke! W you!
What a freakin journey, watching each milestone being narrowly caught and each rival inching past each other. And the not to mention the best anime redemption arc ever made.
I don’t even know where to start, this video literally had the biggest plot twist but at the same time I loved seeing how much the community supported each other and supported shockster, so much love for this community and this video, very well done!
I bought this game as a kid from a discount store and seriously adored it. I still remember Bilbo's expertly animated butt wiggle while climbing ropes. I can say in all seriousness I never would have expected, in my entire life, a three hour documentary of the small dedicated community that scientifically deconstructed and utilised every single bug, glitch and exploit in this game in order to slowly chip away at the total gameplay time over years. A truly entertaining way to spend an afternoon, a mix of heartwarming nostalgia, the finest twists and turns I've seen in a long time and edge of your seat buildup. Great work on this video

So after re-watching this, I just really want to say - Thank you for representing me the way you did. It's easy to mock my stubbornness in sticking with old routes, but you went out of your way to explain my mindset as well as the benefits that it can grant over time.
Aside from just that, I love this video. It's an amazing showcase of so many people working together in different ways to push the game as far as we can, and I know this isn't the end of our story.
That means a lot from you man. This would have never happened without you

Collrctive perfection requires many different people trying many different things. Thank you for your contribution.
How on earth do you do a speedrun? That is crazy!
Dude you guys rock. Such good sportsmanship.

Can we just appreciate this guy telling us the name of and artist behind every bit of background music he used in this video? Truly a hero of our day
I'm going to be honest, this is everything I've ever wanted in a speedrunning Doc - it's absolutely so apparent that you've spent countless hours looking through exact changes to the routes and new discoveries. To tie up all of this while making it engaging and carry the gravitas of just how hard you and your contemporaries in the scene worked is an absolute feat.
Thank you for this!
They knew the exact changes, because *THEY WERE THE ROUTE!*

Schneider getting pissed off and slaughtering the record was some of the most gangster shit I’ve seen in speedrunning.

I'm a big fan of speedrun documentary content and this was absolutely phenomenal. The twist everyone was talking about blew my mind. Interesting how you basically gave the important aspects of every speedrun to us instead of giving a vague description of the improvements.

This is one of the most engaging documentaries I've ever seen - from the crystal clear timeline to the breakdown of individual tricks to the uninterrupted montages of sweet, sweet gameplay.

Of all of the speedrunning documentaries I've seen, this is one of the very best, if not the very best. You legit forced a surprised Pikachu giggle out of me with that revelation halfway through the video.
"short film" ...2 hours and 41 minutes is a short film?
@@usedTNT I suppose you do have a point. I think I was more referring to the plot of the documentary being the “short film” while the actual facts and details regarding the speedrunning history seemed more like filler if you were more focused on finding plot twists and whatnot in the presentation.
True its almost told as a tale. Probably wasn't even intentional but ended up being a work of art.
I do this with legend of Zelda reviews. I have played through almost every game and appreciate other view points, but I can close my eyes and listen because I HAVE played it, and it calms me into sleep almost every time. It’s way better than ASMR. Lol
I was art lead on the PC version of this game - just learned about the whole speedrun thing, so cool!
I totally missed this game too, the art style reminds me of the old cartoon movie.

This is how I felt. I watch summoning salt so I already enjoy speedrunning documentaries, but had told myself I would give it a chance at least 20-25 min to feel out this new (to me) creator and I’m so glad I did. I hope he keeps making more. What a ride.
Remember to always skip the troll hole!
LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Yes, dying IRL would slow down the run significantly.
I had the same thought, lmfao
Same lol
SAME
This video had me smiling from start to finish, the overwhelming feeling of wholesome rivalry and excitement that stays consistent throughout, makes for an experience and education that is rewarding as well as a great template for how to cultivate the best in oneself and others.
The algorithm seems to have selected me to witness this, and I'm glad it did. Very well edited and narrated, I hope this gets more recognition!
Saw this last night in my recommendations and thought to myself: "Although I love speedruns almost 3 hours is way too long."
Woke up this morning and said to myself: "If the movement is actually interesting this could be a good watch."
Me right now: "This is actually better edited and more engaging than Peter Jackson's The Hobbit."
Also epic plot twist at the end of "Chapter 1" that doesn't make you feel cheated on.
CONGRATS ON 1 MILL VIEWS, you're easily my fave speedrunner
Thanks vore jeff bezos
I think this is the first time a UA-cam video has ever smacked me with a plot twist. Great video
I don’t even know where to start, this video literally had the biggest plot twist but at the same time I loved seeing how much the community supported each other and supported shockster, so much love for this community and this video, very well done!
A year later and this is still the best speedrunning doc I’ve seen
