The Logistics Of An Airbus A380 Private Jet

- Опубліковано 26 вер 2024
- Private and VIP versions of many types of commercial aircraft are in service worldwide, some used by governments, some by companies, and some even by individuals. A wide range of narrowbody and widebody aircraft are used, but as yet, there has never been a private A380.
Such an aircraft would offer lots of options for interiors and fittings, as well as an impressive range. So far though, the arguments against it have won out - but could this change?

challenges with fuselage structural integrity: allow me to introduce myself
@@TSERJI Yeah but thats the flex because you have so much money you can just afford to fix those issues
@@dumpyhead7137 you have a pretty warped concept of what wealth can buy then. Sure, there are rich people in this world, with $10, $50, even $100 billion to their name. But the cost of developing a new airliner is in the tens of billions. Weakening structural integrity because you want a chandalier will then result in a new fuselage being redesigned, which will cost billions if not tens of billions -- and that's a hassle/cost that not even rich people want to have the 'pleasure' of dealing with. If they really did have that lax of an attitude when it came to not giving a sh*t about their money, they'd already have luxurious swimming pools, trampoline parks, sports courts, concert halls, and garages in their triple or quadruple-deck airplanes. Yet they don't -- instead, nearly every wealthy person (aka, net worth > $1 billion) flies on a small Gulfstream or similar jet.
You have got to love the liveries that ANA use. It gives their aircraft so much personality.
Face it-the Japanese do everything better.

Certainly the biggest issue with an A380 Private jet would probably be the limited landing options. While the landing options might be opened up slightly with a lighter private configuration, they are still incredibly limited, especially compared to the similarly sized but incredibly more flexible 747.
lighter config won't change any available airports. It is the SIZE
If I was a zillionaire with unlimited money, I can't imagine bothering to get an A380 for exactly this reason. You can only go to a handful of major airports that are already super well served by regularly scheduled flights. You really have to be spending an insane amount of time in the air going between big hubs to have any interest. And just like, spend some more time on the ground, or get a fax machine or something.
Frankly, the most practical use for such a private plane would just be in being able to tell people you are the only person with a private plane that big for bragging rights. You never even need to set foot in it.
@@guaposneeze Given that the plane is so large you could perhaps keep a small jet in the garage, wings off perhaps, and then roll that out once you are closer to your destination. There are some pretty small once on the market. And of course given that money wasn't an issue.

In the TV series, Zoo there was a fictional “private” A380. If memory serves there was a laboratory on one deck and a living deck with a two deck atrium in the centre of the plane! Obviously there was the obligatory large bar area. Also, although it was never shown (I don’t remember anyway) there must have been a garage too as they always had the same cars wherever in the world they were!
They did have a garage it was shown in a few episodes
The volume and cargo capacity it can offer is very appealing. However as a private jet, the A380's more limited airport access would make it a deal breaker for me.
Yes, absolutely the deal-killer. One point of private jets is the ability to land at quite a variety of airports. Forget it with an A380.

@@Polletross That's when you need your smaller jet like a Pilatus 24. Save your big jet (Boeing 737) for long intercontinental flights with friends and family.

Just for reference, the Boeing 737 operates as a regional commercial jet with most airlines. As a private or business operation, it is easily a trans-atlantic capable platform that can still carry a full 52 man American football team, and their equipment.
the A380's range is an absolute beast
Seems like a two engine jet would have more range, the 777 probably has similar space for fuel and less cross section.
500 extra nm over the 747-8? Given the airport restrictions, how many additional routes does that make available? I'd suggest none.
An A380 would make for a great flying establishment:
1. Medical Center
2. Library and Education Center
3. Restaurant
4. Mini-Theater/Auditorium
Restaurant is stupid most first class suits are already serving restruant class style food and it make less of sense if you just gonna fly in a loop just to eat in the air so you will have to go from point a to b to make it worthwhile and you will need comfortable and save seats boom you just made yourself an airline.
I'd love to have one, but if I were in the market for something on this scale, the 747 wins hands-down because of the airport limitations.
When I can’t sleep I imagine being in the crew rest area with the autopilot on, and that I am the only person aboard this, my private 747-800, with the plane headed somewhere awesome like Australia, New Zealand, Fiji. The plane is flying higher than most airliners, perhaps 40k-42k feet. The plane is gently rolling around, like a baby being rocked, and I have crucial cockpit controls on a iPad in case of any emergency. Now that I know it is possible to fly one of these by myself I’ll be meditating about taking a shower and THEN sleeping. Sweet dreams!
Even as a privately owned aircraft the A380 would require a full flight crew at the controls at all times during flight. Also, part 91 compliant aircraft (think King Air 300 family and smaller) where single pilot operations are legal, the pilot cannot leave his/her station at any stage of airborne operations. In other words, you gotta pee...hold it or land somewhere first.
Still, awesome daydream you have there nonetheless.
"only person aboard [...] my private 747"
"crucial cockpit controls on a iPad in case of any emergency"
what the fuck
The first A380 order was in fact a private version. It took years to work on, and eventually the purchaser changed the order numerous times and ended up settling on 2 or 3 different Airbus aircraft purchases. But the design and production work for the Private 380 had gone quite a long way, with issues over chandeliers being requested and how to make such items safe during flight.
I shouldn't have been so trigger happy... you then talked about it anyway :D :D

Useless for a rich individual because of the EXTREME limitation of airports it can operate from. If you are rich you want to be able to travel almost anywhere NOT almost nowhere.
Add a skislope, an artificial reef for scuba diving, a tropical forrest and a vulcano.
Id love BA to take a few of those retired a380's, it makes them stand out a little and are very popular with passengers.
A private A380 would be awesome, however, you are limited to large airports which is a huge inconvenience if you’re using it fir business travel. Operating costs would be astronomical.
plus airline get first dibs on big terminal that can handle this whale of a plane that limits your acess even furthur there a reason why most baller dont go beyond narrow body private jet conversion like 737 max and a320 neo acj those are as big as you need them to be.
It’s a big plane for most airports for example even at Manchester Airport the Emirates A380 is only able to fit on gate 12 in terminal 1 as it won’t fit on the others
I’m sure if they have their own personal jumbo jet ✈️ they they’re more than likely going to fly into a private airspace or terminal anyways
@@angelaburress8586 your limited to only main flying hub smaler regional airfield or private airfield simply cant handle this size of aircraft and even in main flying hub first dibs will be given to airlines so its alot of hurdles and pain to be dealing with regardless of the monster of an expense it would cost to even remotely work plus you just paid half to a billion dollar for a flying palace and you that is less usable then your average gulfstream in speed range and utility.
A "Private" A380 would prove so helpful as an operating theatre going abroad to 3rd world countries in desperate needs of health care treatments.
The much more robust antonov planes would be more suited for that role.
Funnily enough, the plane leased by Iron Maiden during their 2016 tour, the 747-400 nicknamed "Ed force one", allowed them a lot of flexibility in their logistics chain and the capability to reach destinations which would be otherwise impractical to reach by regular means. it is said that their 2016 concert in el salvador was the biggest concert ever in that country history. im not familiar with the restrictions and limitations of the A380,but for what I heard, this many dates on otherwise pretty isolated countries would have been impossible if they used a A380 instead.
It needs almost 3 km of runway to take off. This plane is a no-no for any kind of private use.
1:35 I've been in that same aircraft before!
I can't fly unless the aircraft has a racquetball court, so this as a private jet would be great for me.
I require a lap swimming pool-standard size...
But my question is, if you're going to play racquetball, where are they going to keep the live goats so you can have freshly squeezed goat milk after you are finished playing? Or how about the almonds for the snack tray? If you have a racquetball court, where are you going to keep the small almond grove to grow your almonds?
The 747-8 is the perfect large long range private jet. It's big enough to create your dream custom interior to fly your a large group (20-50 persons) in pure luxury, has cargo space for lots of luggage or even multiple vehicles then it has the flexibility to access a large number of airports. Plus, I'm a fan of 4 engines when flying over large bodies of water for an extended time.
I am sorry but this is wrong the 747 also has pretty big restrictions espescially the -8
@@makr0295 I mean, yeah but lets take my home country, Norway. On the top of my head i know of one airport the A380 is cleared to land at. The 747 is cleared for at least 6 airports..

I doubt anyone would even think of using the A380 as a private jet other than governments.
And even they don’t for many reasons
It’s an absurd idea honestly. The Boeing business jet 737 is the largest one logically. Any bigger is just absurd maintenance and operating cost.
@@jonasbaine3538 sometimes that's the point :p
Alwaleed bin talal had ordered an a380 for private use
The owner of Chelsea has one as well. A bit more research?
The early 1900's saw equivalent luxury in the transcontinental railroad
catering the the rich and powerful minus the hi-tech. Wireless telegrams were the cutting edge of
technology.
Man, that 747-8 is beautiful!!
Wait.. the A380's limitation on flying into many airports are primarily because of gate space, multi-level boarding, and also basic economics: a whole lot of passengers wanting to go between the points it serves. That does not apply to private or government use: as long as it has a runway that's long enough then you get to park the thing anywhere way out on left field, you don't need a passenger gate anyway. So that leaves only airports that are truly cramped for space as problematic, but most places you could fly to. (The A380 needs a shorter runway length than the 747) And someone who buys an A380 probably already has a couple smaller business jets for shorter hops into small airports with fewer people.
It isn’t only about gate size, the wide wingspan also is a major problem especially at airports not built for the A380. Taxiways also had to be modernized for an airport to accommodate the A380
High operating costs and a very limited number of airports that can accommodate the A380 will keep it undesirable for private use.
Perhaps the 380 will go the way of the Concorde and it's economic viability will come from it's unique characteristics instead of sheer volume of traffic. Imagine a kind of cruise liner in the sky that takes like 250 people on a hyper luxurious air cruise around the world.
Eh, I guess Earth is literally too small for such a glorious machine. The aviation enthusiast in me would love to see it but honestly I am glad we as humans haven't quite reached that level of decadence, yet.
Yeah, I’ve already got one on order. It has a swimming pool on the lower deck. Hot tub in the cockpit. Even has Corian countertops.
Gonna connect two airports together to get a longer runway.
Yo what?
I don't think it will ever see private operations. I am sure there will be some other plans to do so, but someone somewhere, but the limitations as to where it can fly and the operating costs will just be too much to make it viable.
Where is the cutaway diagram from the thumbnail?
The sheer numbers on this beast are unfathomable. 1.2mil pound takeoff weight. Wow

i can't wait to get back onboard!
On the short lived TV show "Zoo" the scientists were funded by a very rich man who had a private A380. One option he installed was a rear ramp for an SUV so they could go out and collect data. It also had a huge hole cut in the second floor so the research labs had a clear view of the lounge area below. I have no idea if this is possible in real life as any SUV would be immensely heavy and the A380 would probably need upgraded engines and a reinforced body to accommodate it.
The most severe problem with it is the very limited number of airports it can operate to, I think. For a private jet, you want flexibility. You don't want to be limited to a small number of large international hubs.
I think Airbus made a wise decision in not bidding for the x2 Airforce One contract.
Has to be an American made plane. They wouldn’t have been able to bid.
@@KMT15 - exactly. No point even thinking about it. 👍
It was never going to happen because of the security requirements One case where "build it here" has justification, and the potential promotional benefit of selling the "ultimate" presidential plane would never transfer into enough sales to justify the cost.
Wow….I guess there is such a thing as too much of a good thing! 😳
how many cars can private a380 carry??
an a321 xlr would work perfectly since it has outstanding range and would fit whats necessary
I am saving to buy one of those.
You have cutaway diagrams on your thumbnails--but where are they? They are not in the videos. Cutaways really help me understand the spaces.
What I'd like to see is a Beluga repurposed as a "sky yacht". Imagine a full glass front door and full height atrium.
2:17 the guys on the right where planing who was going to prank the guy that was sitting in that chair.
The next step up would be the Starship Enterprise D; it's only slightly bigger!
The entire idea of using a private jet is to have freedom and flexibility. Using an A380 as such would be like using a stretch hummer for a cross country road trip.
Given how popular the 747 is as a freighter, there should be enough of them still in the air that it should be relatively straighforward to operate a 747-8 private jet for decades to come. Will anyone other than Emirates be operating the 380 ten years from now? Five years from now?
More parts too...
I'm amused by the analysts that look at "why did the 380 fail" but who fail to understand that FROM THE START Boeing realized they needed a freight version, so designed a plane to be easily convertible. I dont think it was prescience on their part, they just didn't believe they'd sell enough pure passenger jumbo. This has allowed an active freight (both built for use and secondary) for the 747, a significant driver of 747 sales over the years. By choosing to NOT offer an A380-F, even as an efficient retrofit, Airbus crippled the planes resale value, which just adds one more nail in the coffin. Why buy a 380 with almost no resale, when you can buy a 747 that can easily be sold on to cargo use? Airbus didn't JUST misread the passenger market, they grossly misread what was already a massively growing cargo market.
@@markdoldon8852 you're probably right about resale value, I'm not sure that was obvious 10yr ago. I've often thought they need 777 wings on both 747 and 380s... dual large engine folding wingtips etc. It's still possible someone will do some useful mods to them.
The 747 was originally designed exclusively as a freighter, back when they expected the sst to be the future of passenger transport.
@@jeebus6263 no, the 747 in its eventual format was originally designed specifically for Pan Am. Did Boeing have freight concepts kicking around that gave them a starting point? Probably, but the project went nowhere until Pan Am said "build us a jumbo and we'll buy it" Boeing DID consider that they needed a freight version if they wanted it to be successful. It drove a lot of their design decisions, such as placing the cockpit on the upper level, leaving room for a ground level loading door. But everything I've ever seen published emphasizes that the design was originated as a passenger plane.
As for refitting either of todays jumbos with different wings and twin engines, that is effectively a complete redesign. It's not something any conversion company can handle, it's a new design starting virtually from scratch. Boeing or Airbus woukd need to dedicate tens of billions, most of a decade on a new aircraft. It wouldn't make any sense in marketing terms unless there is a demand. In terms of Airbus, it wouldn't solve any of the existing reasons why their plane is not optimized for cargo. Might Boeing find a market argument for a 747 sized twin? They already looked at that, and the first 777-9 will start rolling out in the next years or so. They have slightly less passenger capacity, significantly MORE cargo space although without the front loading door of the 747-F which the largest cargo users like.
I unironically would love to see a head of State full of themselves buying one of those very cheap second hand A380, and furnish it just to make it into the world's biggest government transport. Like, it would be a baller move to show up to an international conference with a bigger plane than even the US president or German chancellor. They would probably rarely use it, and have a second, more usable plane (like an A320), but it would be such a move to be able to boast about your country.
I want to buy one for my house. Lol
this is probably too late, but why didn't they combined both worlds? A Cabin with Large Scale Semi-Private/Business Luxury level comfort completely separated from Regular Cabin with 210 ~ 275 seats. Take with a pitch of Salt, but based on the Private Jet A380 configuration, since it can potentially fly further by theory, Combining the two configuration could possibly provide a more improved performance mostly in the Fuel Consumption side of the scenario. Usually Business travelers fly with light weight don't they? With Light weight onboard you don't have to worry about applying so much Engine Thrust or Fuel Burn to gain the necessary Airspeed to gain lift and maintaining Cruising Altitutes. IMO this Concept may work better with the 747-8i
Otherwise I makes sense to not reproduce so much of these Jets is Private Configuration, most Airports don't have the space from them, especially the A380
Great Video :)
The A380 is (kind of) like the Concorde. If companies can get them almost for free they will find a way to make it cover the operating costs. Besides parking fees, they won't feel the pressure to keep these airplanes in the air as much as possible also.
But it cannot land at most airports.
Never heard of any company owning a Concorde for that matter.
A Learjet is all any sensible company needs. No hassle with customs, no annoying other passengers and enough room and quiet to work while travelling.
@@AudieHolland Oh... I meant an airline or similar company. The video was about hypothetical private A380's, so my idea is a bit off topic.

The A380 is a very good cargo plane. IMHO.
No, unfortunately it’s not. It simply is way too heavy
I called Airbus a while back and ask them if the A380 has a private jet could land at the Nashville international airport. They confirmed that it could. They said the limitations of so many airports wasn’t the aircraft itself, but the ability to accommodate so many passengers is it possible that this video is not taking these into account? Especially when you spoke to that person that you quoted I would be very interested in knowing if he was taking into consideration the fact that a private A380is not carrying all those passengers
The Private Jet A380 would be cool too see for sure if Airbus decides to go for it & can do well for The French President of France I Love this Video is awesome!!!!
this is a literal flying house
I was trying to think of ways to make larger windows in a pressurized fuselage without compromising the structural integrity. Then I started wondering if it would be easier to create entire sections of fuselage from the lightest transparent plastic or glass or whatever nanotech composite and then use paint to create opaque parts and clear "windows" of any shape, in any configuration along that ring of the fuselage.
So, I wonder if that could be a thing or not.
I love the idea of this
I miss the A380
Boeing 747 queen of the sky.
Airbus A380 KING OF THE SKY.
If the airport situation worked in my favor, (and I won several lotteries in a short time span), then yes, but the 747 is almost the perfect aircraft, and very tough to beat. New or used.
Remember the Antonov AN-124 from Die Another Day (or just remember Die Another Day)? That's more or less what a private A380 would be like.
Your talking is satisfying

That's probably the world's stupidest idea (for today). No access to water, stable and ample electricity, good internet, still small, unstable, noisy.. Ugh.
The limited access to airports and the associated facilities would be a deal breaker for me on a private A380, would just be far too much of a hassle and a restriction.

This would be an incredible aircraft for an NFL team if only it could land at more airports.

@@Realthinx they could pack the entire weight room on the storage deck.
Well, let’s visit that for a moment! Could you image taking 800+ fans to every away game with you! Granted LA to SF would do be stupid, but what about cross country trips? London trips! Oh wait, Jacksonville wouldn’t have that many going anytime soon!
But if the NFL were to expand to say, Mexico and or Europe these would make sense to have on a lease program. Charging fans $1,000- $2,000. A trip including a game ticket could work to off set some costs.
I’d been interested. They’d have to convert it to a seaplane through so I could fill the full length swimming pool up once it’s taken off!
Why would Airbus need to move production to the U.S. for two Air Force Ones? It's pretty easy to get an aircraft to its buyer.
Was thinking the same thing, not like the new owners can't get to them either, talk about brainless.
The idea is obviously robust cuz it has a very thick and wide cabin and a another full deck and let's not forget how quiet it is. But there are alot of negative points too 1st of all it's TOO BIG hence airport compacity will be limited and it's pretty darn expensive too.
If you can afford to buy and configure an A380, you're also likely to be able to afford to construct the necessary infrastructure on a private island somewhere to accommodate your toy. If you have additional homes or offices in major cities, landing the A380 shouldn't be much of an issue.
I have considered an A 380 private jet, but as it cannot land at St. Barth I will take something more handy.

If it’s possible you could remove the 2nd story floor and have a 2 floor room for like a basketball court or something?
Maybe a Titanic staircase :p
A swimming pool with diving tower! =)
That swag glasses on thumbnail got me lol
I could see the possibility of maybe the A380 being button up by a few companies that do international cargo delivery
That was already discussed before, unfortunately the A380 is a horrible freighter
The problem is that the 747 was DESIGNED to include a cargo version. That allows a relatively cheap conversion to allow the nose of the plane to open up for excellent access to loading. (That's why the cockpit of the 747 is on the upper deck, the door opens below it) An entire 747 can be emptied and loaded with new containers very rapidly.
With the 380, no such provision was made. It's much more expensive to modify for cargo, and while max cargo WEIGHT is higher than a 747, in practical terms only the lower deck would be used which is slightly smaller than the usable space on 747. Less space on a significantly more expensive plane to operate, with limited airport restrictions. Throw in the massive built up infrastructure for 747 cargo, including spare parts etc, and it just doesn't make sense to convert 380s for cargo except maybe in unique situations.. Cheaper, easier, more efficient, more flexible to simply use the industry workhorse.
My favorite jet is still the 777
Interior designs would be nice.
Boeing has an entire division dedicated to private use versions of their aircraft, including the 747. It’s called BBJ.
Austin Powers had his own 747!
Been there; done that. All of those amenities were available in the early 747s (in the 1970s and 80s) where they even installed a baby grand piano. There's nothing new about these for the A380.

It would make the ultimate party bus!
Why would you need a plane that big. Even a 777x is huge for a private jet.
You can order a taxi and go anywhere mostly. You can order a tuktuk to get to even tighter places. If you’re a private buyer then you’re more interested in getting directly from point to point, you need a taxi or a much smaller, more efficient and more flexible aircraft. The A380 is like a coach for one person to a destination that is has windy hairpin bends. It’s impractical, inefficient, and in most cases simply not possible. Grandeur means nothing when you can’t use it in a practical manner. Smaller in this case is by far better for everyone.
I think a private 787 would be ideal.
There are a number of those available through Boeing or the secondary market. Plenty big enough for anyone but the US President and far more efficient.
