I didn't realize it was so powerful until I saw how NYC CNC used it. Way more to it than just the 3d CAD modeling I expected.

Imo I think Fusion 360 is an excellent cad software for a fair price compared with the competition

Good morning! By chance you wouldn't happen to have any up to date videos on building a pc for fusion 360 best performance? Or at least what exactly to look for? I've watched tons of videos with lots of info but most everything is gaming specific. Thanks for any assistance you might be able to provide.

Really good intro to it, mate!
In other news, continuing our dialog, and thanks to your comments, its seems that my next system WILL be a 12950hx Dell 7770...

And that'll be a monster! I just saw the port layout on it, no ports on the back same as the Titan, they've removed 1x USB-A so it's only now got 2x USB-A... no mini display port instead it's USB-C display out... they're really pushing you down the dongle or dock route. Basically looking like having one of their docks is mandatory if you have a lot of devices or displays... disappointed with the IO on it but the performance should be stellar!

Thank you, I really appreciate the information. Do you have a video of a list of 3D printers that works with Fusion 360.

    • @Neil3D
      @Neil3D  2 роки тому

You're probs best off hitting up either the Fusion 360 official forum for that, or head to the Fusion 360 Discord server if you're a Discord user. There's a huge community of helpers there.
But when you say what "works" with Fusion 360, tbh any will and should. If you're modeling something in Fusion just to export a .STL file to print, then it doesn't matter which printer you have really. If you're wanting to use the integrated slicer that I mentioned and are curious about the preconfigured profiles, then it's not worth making a video on that as the list will update and change so often that the video will be out of date in no time. But it supports most of the popular brands like Creality, Prusa, Ultimaker etc

The time it takes for Fusion to open and load a project I can have my project finished with Inventor.

Im coming from Tebis, Pro-E Wildfire 3 and 4 till Creo 2, parallel solidworks since version 2015.. maybe a tiny bit of Rhino. From you I learned everything about Inventor but I might finally switch to fusion360 now.. all the others feel like they stopped in developing for that massive price tags they all got.. after 12+ years in cad/cam prototyping there was never a part i couldn´t do with fusion today

Hi Neal. All well and good but you did not mention the issue of local internet service realiability and the recent proliferation of hackers. If the internet drops out then what about access to data. How much does clould storage cost and can data be backed up on your own companies servers? You can probably tell that I am a Inventor supporter. Cheers John

Hi John - there was never any intent to cover security concerns in this piece, there's a lot I didn't cover as it could have easily been an hour or two long. This was a high level overview, stuff like internet blackouts and functional workflows in the event of cyber attacks are way beyond the scope of this one! Valid concerns and good questions though.

Personal use or especially commercial use; I strongly disagree with AutoCAD “holding” your files.
Designs are Intellectually Property, and should be secured by the designers, NOT a cloud “hackable” account

Hmm I have a lot to say on this which I don't think can be articulated briefly in a comment reply. But regardless, that's your opinion and you're not wrong as it's your opinion and I understand the reasons for holding it.

Funnily enough I've been trying to get the free version recently. However, it seems its impossible for me to sign into my autodesk account on the website, meaning I can't download it :/

Dunno... 🤷‍♂ if you don't have any other licenses on that account, maybe make up a new Gmail address and try creating a new account? The website and accounts are working fine at the moment... try another browser, might have an extension blocking something its trying to do?

Paid my money and I have been using Fusion 360 Electronics for 6 months. 2 to 3 random crashes each and every day in that time. Tried 3 different computers in that time, no difference, crashes same way on all of them. No Fusion error reports of any kind, just a fatal windows crash message. Timed auto backup doesn't work either so lost work every time.

Dang it. Having been pissed with AutoDesk (who would have thought that would be a thing? ) when they removed the excellent conduit between AutoCAD and the original Fusion I have now spent many £1000's on Inventor over the subsequent 10(?) years. Ha, ha AutoDesk I have my Inventor licence in perpetuity and I ain't giving it up. I do have 3D printers and baby CNC machines though and the CNC machine gets little use as I only drive it with CamBAM which (quite frankly) is a pain. Perhaps it is time to consider Fusion again? What we need is someone who does really good tutorials 🙂

I did a project with some Creo guys recently in the defense sector. They were doing complex gimbal/camera assemblies with out any animation tools. They refused to upgrade their license due to cost issues from PTC, and they were using it to do front end concept work. Fusion has now past the rubicon and with the post covid world of working. They are positioned to make dinosaurs out of the likes of PTC, Dassault, McNeel and Siemens who are all still stuck in lock-down mode. They cannot innovate with all of their old legacy data and are making retards out of good creative engineers and machinists.

I thought he meant cos I put Lars at the beginning! This channel hasn't been an Inventor channel for 4-5 years now, it's been a general Autodesk'y channel for a long time now, my next video is the same as this but another one of their products. But indeed, Fusion is one of the few topics which is only just barely worth the time. This video took 4 days to make, if it even gets 10k views it's still not time efficient but anything Inventor related, Vault etc is absolutely not worth my time and I've had to start reconsidering that now.

Technical support is horrible and most tool paths are geared around solid models. Forced to create solid models to enjoy the full breath of tool path features. Forced to select tools from a tool library (no tool creation on the fly). Fusion 360 is not for you if you just want to quickly create wire frame geometry, apply tool path and generate NC code. You will be restricted to tool path features if you don't want to create a sold model. BTW, you don't own the tool path you create. Yes, you can save the NC Code and the part geometry locally to your computer, but you can't do the same with the tool path you created. That is to say, if you decide to quit Fusion, you loose all access to all the tool path you created. Forget about making edits to tool path if you quit Fusion 360. Also, forget about design security. Your product design files are stored on the cloud. You think the cloud is 100% secure? Really? BTW, what are you going to do when Autodesk raises the subscription price? Fusion 360 is OK at what it does but I'm not drinking the Koolaid and believing it's the best out there.
