I installed my Ring Car Cam Feb 20. Tucking in the cable was not as smooth as this video, but with a plastic putty knife and the Ring utensil, I eventually got it. I also use a few Ring-provided stickum cable guides. Also, make sure Car Cam is secured and Centered before sticking to windshield. It looks good and I’m glad I got it. It replaces a Dash Cam.

  • @anups_nair

Like the fact that it has LTE and connects to OBD and the low power mode protects car battery but the mount which sure is different from all other dash cams seems awkward like it takes up too much area especially in the Bronco they put on display at CES. At the same time mounting at the bottom may restrict the view in recording, camera does tilt as shown in the vid. May be the design allows it to be mounted on top as well? Being ring would have been first choice but for the mount will wait for some reviews once it’s out in the market. Also, since there is no SD card and videos are stored in internal storage, a removable mount would have been easier to connect to a laptop and review videos. Reviewing and downloading from cloud & mobile device is a bit of an effort in my opinion.

@4:04 I was excited for the Ring cam to finally come out with a dashcam with LTE. But after seeing how the angle of viewpoint looks on the front cam, I feel disappointed here. Also, my concern is how the front cam will look when the sun is hitting hard on the dash cam due to reflection glare and how sharp the license plate will read out on the video feed.

  • @jayminmakadia

Front view is quite obstructed with the dashboard, it could have more vision if mounted on the top of the windshield compared to bottom of it, pause the video at 4:04 and look for yourself. Almost half the video is of the dashboard which is unnecessary.

I preordered one and it should be coming this Friday the 17th but like many others I am concerned with how this mounts as it does restrict the view a bit, Im not sure why Ring thought it would be a good idea to mount it into the dash like how they have it, I figured I would give it a try as I really do like the features it has (Espeically the built in LTE) but if I feel like it restricts my vision at all Im going to return it and just go back using my old one. Illl make a video when I get it if anyone is reading this and wants to know how well it works.

Very curious why Ring chose to have the USB connection on the camera itself come off the wrong side of the camera to lead directly to the OBD-II port on the majority of cars worldwide.
Second, I wish Ring would offer a hard-wire kit instead of making the OBD-II port the only option. I currently have a Bouncie plugged into my OBD-II port.
Finally, I wish Ring included a warning sticker that could adhere to the inside of a window rather than the outside.

All they have to do is unplug it and throw it out the window. The only thing that would save this is if gps and or camera stayed on with battery disconnected. My worry… that this mounts over the daylight sensor in the middle of the dash and my truck thinks it’s always night time …meaning the instrument lights are constantly auto-dimmed. I cant even go under a bridge without my lights dimming. Cant adjust it either. 2018 Silverado.

Will there be a rear cam made available? …is it possible to hardwire without using the OBD port? …any plans to release a 4G/LTE/5G model? Some cars (thinking Audi) are notorious for going bonkers and having tons of issues when stuff is plugged into the OBD port; not to mention that dealers like saying the warranty was voided by plugged something into the port - I’ve had arguments with my local Mini and Audi dealers because they claim I caused the issue by plugging in a T-Mobile SyncUp drive.

Hi Carlos. That's a great question, and we'd like to help answer that for you. The Ring Car Cam is a dual-facing dashboard security camera, and currently is only able to be powered by plugging device into OBD-II port of vehicle. Visit our website for more information: ring.com/products/car-cam. We hope this helps.

@@ring how about answering the question here where everybody can see? This is a general question that you can't seem to answer. Been seeing a lot of general questions and your responses are mostly to reach out to you privately through other social media without answering the questions. Curious how good of a customer support you guys provide

So.. is this a dash cam as well? Loop recording? Saving files? I've been waiting for RING to make a dash cam, but im not sure this is it, is it?

Hey, Ismael. Thank you for your interest in our Ring Car Cam. The camera records as you are driving. When it comes to the vehicle being parked, it then runs primarily on motion detection so that it doesn't drain your car battery. A Ring Protect Go subscription is required for the LTE capabilities. You can learn more here: ring.com/protect-go.
