MOM & DAD HAD A 1961 COMET 2D. BLUE
I LOVE COMETS AND FALCONS FROM 1960 ---1967 .
THE 64 IS THE GENUINE MUSCLE CAR OF ALL FALCONS.
LOVE THEM ALL ....WANT THEM ALL
MOM & DAD HAD FALCON. 1960. 4DRSD. 3 TREE
Happy to read this one brings back memories of your Parents car :-)
I appreciate how Ken closes the hood. Pull down then push, not slamming which too many people tend to do.
Thank you for viewing and sharing what you appreciate.
They don’t make heavy like b4. Now all plastic
I had one back in the day, same color as this, and I had the 289 HyPo in it. I blacked out the bars on the inner grill, leaving just the emblem and the outer ring chrome, looks a lot sharper in my opinion. A drunk t-boned it one night in 1969, which sent my Cyclone to the wrecking yard. Replaced it with a '69 Mustang Mach 1.
Hi Roy Seals, Thank you for viewing and sharing your story with your car like this one. Sad to read about your wreck, and sounds like an excellent replacement :-) Lou
I really wanted to put those Cyclone wheel covers on my 65 Caliente. I miss that Comet more than all of my other previous cars.

This guy is like me. OCD the gift and the curse 😂 the level of detail there, very impressive. I have to tip my hat off to him. Usually when you see a restoration job, a lot of the small details are ignored. This gentleman's Comet is perfect.
Hi Lynx Star Automotive, High praise :-) Glad you think this one is "perfect" and I agree with you, Lou
I have a original 65 comet cyclone been in my family for 50 yrs

Had one, same 289 / 225 but mine was burgundy with what they called a camel interior, a beige. Nice car, did a lot of street racing.

I had a Dark Metallic Turquoise A code with 3 speed on the column back in the 90s. I found three other Cyclones within a 20 mile radius of my house back then. One was a fully restored stock drag car, the other 2 were sitting up with 'no sell' owners.
I always liked the body lines of these and the falcons. It's a great styling cue how it looks like an arrow tip or comet, from the front tip as it graduates to make it seem to be moving even as she's standing still. Another spectacular true car loving owner that obviously goes the extra mile to get all of the details correct for his baby. I had a classmate in college who was actually my moms age that worked for GM in Detroit. He got hired after he returned from Vietnam until they shut the plant down. Those are the people you really get the true skinny from as you said earlier. He has some incredible stories about the decades of experience and hot rodding in Michigan during the Woodward heydays of the Boulevard brawling with the factory boys doing wild hi performance stuff out of the factory back doors!
She's definitely a beauty that looks like she'd be sitting at the local Mercury dealership in the showroom, ready to be taken for a test drive or delivered to her next excited new family to be cherished and cared for, for many decades and miles down the road. Thanks again guys! ▪☆☆☆▪
Hi my name is 905, Glad you enjoy this one. Thank you for viewing and sharing your story too :-) You're welcome, Lou

Love it! Especially the ribbed seats. Interesting detail about the engine color. Nice hubcaps too! She starts like a dream. Near the end of the video, I hear the car critic sounding off in the background - lol. Was that his ankle biter dog or someone else's? :-)
Hi ImTheDaveman, Glad you "love it" :-) Happy to read you enjoy the details. Me too, Lou
It was only 15yrs old when he got it. Very nice
Hi estpst, Glad you think this one is "very nice" :-) Lou
I remember Bennett Ford in Folsom California on the license plate surround
Nice :-)
Very good car. He mentioned the engine was painted black by the factory. Was this just the Cyclone engine or all Mercury Engines? I know Ford painted the V8 engines blue and the 6 cylinder engines red during the first half of the decade. In the last half, all the engines were blue. At least this was true of the cars that weren't the muscle cars. Obviously, the higher performance engines had chrome valve covers. I have seen under the hood of a lot of Ford cars, and the blue and red engines were the only colors I saw at dealerships and in driveways of friends or relatives. I have seen the chrome valve covers on Mustangs and Thunderbirds, but not on other cars until I started watching these UA-cam videos.

Looks just like one I saw on wapakoneta Ohio last year at a car show .

Who spied on who for the 65 Comet and the 65 GTO? Did Mercury spy on Pontiac or vice versa?
Hmmm, not sure, however I like the outcome for both cars :-)
@@loucostabile Yup, I agree!
a friend from church owns one of these and he is giving my grandfather one for free :) and i live with my grandfather so I get to inherit this baby!
WOW - THAT'S AWESOME!
These would've been on showroom floor when my dad came to Canada. He bought a new one in '77 for $5500 302ci. 4dr white on black no pwr options, only the antenna and fan forced rear def. I'd have been a fan too.
Hi Jimiel Joseph, Happy to read your Dad bought one like this :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Nice :)
Glad you enjoy tis one :-)
I thought Sunoco was highest rated gasoline. Im in illinois So? maybe it varies.... Sunoco 260 i believe
Thank you for viewing & sharing your knowledge.
Sunoco 260 was 104.9 Oct., I have a magazine ad with the rating.
The Ford Torino Talledega, Mercury Comet Cyclone, and Dodge Super Bee are my 3 favorites, and the 3 you didn't wanna see rolling up to the line on a Friday night. Or the terror twins, the Dodge Challenger and Plymouth Hemi Cuda. Then there was that big nasty Olds 442 all the Dodge Charger guys wanted to square off against. But to top it all off, some gearhead would roll up in a gasser with enough engine sticking out of the hood to launch a rocket, or one of those super chopped rod jobs that weighed 1,200 lbs and lights off like a firecracker. One guy rumbled in driving a Super Bee that looked like it had been wrecked and rolled, and completely owned a Mustang within the first 200 feet, he tricked everyone, that things fenders were literally jumping and it set crooked, but he had some kind of voodoo under the hood.
Hi Janson Gander, Glad this car is a favorite of yours :-) Lou
Im restoring a 64 Caliente , but like the 65 better..

289 good small block for let's say a mustang , falcon or maverick. but for a boat like the cyclone, well its just a cruiser now

I miss the wonderful " enamel badges " of the 50's and 60's . Chrysler dodge Plymouth really shined in that area .
Badges are nice to see :-) I like them too.
Very nice, indeed, from back when Ford bothered to design and build cool cars. Almost had one of my own once...same color paint. Another of life's missed opportunities.

should have said 1964 Cyclone
Interesting car thanks for posting. Younger folks learning about vintage cars rely on the accuracy of these videos to learn, so it would be better if you took the time to state correctly. You keep calling it a "Ford". It's a "Mercury". You call them "hubcaps". They do not cover the lugnuts so they are "wheel covers", not hubcaps. You gloss over the brochure which shows the six, 2V 289 and 4V 289 as engine options. This one is the super which is the 4V 289. Which is likely the "A" code engine - but you don't bother to show the VIN which is on the fender well to confirm. There is no high performance "K" code option for this year per the brochure. So this is not a high performance but more likely an "A" code engine which would have had flat pistons and higher compression requiring premium gasoline. You spent a lot of time looking at lights in the ash tray and not talking about the performance aspects, which the owner was well versed on and wanted to tell you. But you wanted to know why he knew they came without radio antennas.

Who is Mackay ?
?
I have a pretty nice one. It's not show but it is a killer street car that I drive when I want. I've had it 12 years and last October is the first time it's ever had a shiny paint job. I have all new interior for it but not installed yet. I put a 3.73 gear with limited slip, mustang world class 5 speed and a 351W bored and built. It's around 500hp. The car only weighs 2200lbs and is VERY quick. It gets more looks than the vettes and other cars because no one knows what it is until they ask. The 65 was an orphan. They only made that body 1 year so you can't get anything for them. Some Falcon parts fit like doors but not a lot is the same. Seats and stuff are the same interior but I put in high back buckets for now and I like them. Mine's solid and looks great. Will light em up pretty much until you let off. Fun car REALLY hard to find stuff for them.....been shopping for a long time for certain parts and had to make my own wheel wells for the rear. But I'm an aircraft mechanic and metal is pretty easy for me.
Hi AWitty Pilot, Sounds like you're a GREAT Care Taker for your car :-) Keep up the great work, Lou
I wish I could post a pic...it's an awesome car. I have a vette and 7 other cars/trucks and I prefer the Comet any day of the week. REAL mean little motor...BIG cam...afraid it's going to crack a window....hehe I don't really care how fast it is....so long as it SOUNDS fast! hehe My dad drag raced a 65 cyclone when I was 10...always wanted one but the money and the car were never in the same place.....got lucky and a friend found the one I have on craigslist. It had a 289 225 horse with a factory 4 speed close ratio...but its a 404, not a cyclone or caliente. Door post car. REALLY light. Couldn't believe the weight slip when I weighed it.
14"wheels and tires, saw a wagon with the same setup and compared to today nothing but 18" or more. My how times have changed along with the price too.
Less than 50, what a shame, it was one cool car.
Hi Ric Pel, I recall reading a quote (and it might have been Dr Seuss) that said, Let's be glad it happened, and try not to be disappointed that it ended. That helped me, and I hope it helps you. And we can always watch this video again and again :-) Lou
Everybody modded the hell out of them, and why not, the parts counter wasn't far away.
There are more than 50 of these out there but many are just sitting up and need some love :)
Ford gurus.. is Polar white the same as Wimbledon white? My 64 Comet code is Polar white and I want to get it close to what is was.
Hi Malcolm 210, I'm not sure. and hope a Ford Guru helps with your question, Lou
@@loucostabile I googled it. They are the same. Just Mercury's name for ford Wimbledon white. And Lincoln was Arctic white.

.....about?
Two items not correct, 1965 Cyclones did not come with duel exhaust unless it is a high performance 271HP, and also the badge located on the console lid is incorrect.
Hi David, Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Lou
You’re wrong on both counts. The console lid emblem is absolutely correct. And even Comet Hipos had single exhaust. But you could order dual exhaust on 289 Falcons and Comets from the dealer.
This car makes me wet.
Hi jon lennon, Nice :-) Lou
Granted, he's right that you don't see many 65 Comet Cyclones(or Comets period). I bought a 65 Comet Caliente with its original 289 4v in about 1990 when I was 22.
It had been sitting for years, because its engine had an overheating issue that the owner said he'd tried to fix without success. The body was perfectly straight but in grey primer, and it's interior in decent shape too. I bought it for $500, tried to drive it home, but it overheated on the way and I had to let it sit a couple hours, then finished the drive home.
Well, I had more love for the car than I had money. i also didn't have an adequate place to work on it, nor proper tools, and to make the situation even more pathetic, I was not yet in possession of adequate auto mechanical knowledge. To add insult to injury, the management of my apartment complex complained about it being parked in a mostly vacant rear lot, due to not yet being inspected and registered, so they demanded it be removed just a few days after I bought it!
So, just about 1 week after I bought it, I was forced to get rid of it. My mother was outraged over the whole thing. At least in that particular case, there actually was some legitimacy to her anger(often there wasnt).
Clearly Patrick McLeod you have a story on your Comet too. Thank you for sharing :-) Lou
Don't like consul
