Isis Then and Now: A Tale of Timeless Spirituality
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 тра 2024
- In this exploration, we address key questions about the goddess Isis: How has she evolved from ancient Egyptian deity to a symbol in modern esotericism and popular culture? What was her role in the 19th-century Occult Revival and 20th-century esoteric movements like the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn? How has the Fellowship of Isis influenced her modern veneration, and what is her significance in contemporary Paganism, Neo-Paganism, and New Age movements?
The journey begins with the 19th-century Occult Revival, highlighting Helena Blavatsky's influence and her portrayal of Isis as a symbol of hidden wisdom. The 20th century saw further evolution of Isis's image, influenced by the Golden Dawn and Dion Fortune, integrating her into new mystical traditions. The Fellowship of Isis played a crucial role in modernizing her veneration, reflecting the era's growing interest in goddess worship.
Isis's role in contemporary spiritual practices is multifaceted, embodying the divine feminine, wisdom, and spiritual awakening. Her adaptability is evident in her diverse representations in popular culture and New Age movements. The exploration concludes by emphasizing Isis's enduring significance across various cultures and spiritual paths.

My second superficial comment on this collaboration lol. Your hair looks great & very flattering! ✌️💕🤘
in northern california, in the town of Geyserville, you can find the Isis Oasis Sanctuary, a modern temple of Isis. I've been there and it's certainly an experience.
They rent it out too! I was there last year for a Tibetan Buddhist event.
The albino peacocks and other rescue animals were really cool to see too!
@@Petruhaficationthe Isis temple is permanent
Geyserville is great! I taught a magic class at Isis Oasis for over a year with Granny Rainbow til lockdowns. Miss those little goats, say hi to Norman my little goat buddy if you go back there.
🌙
@@Petruhafication that sounds fantastic I would love to go back up there but I never hear about events there
I love the story of Lucias from the Roman novel "The Golden Ass," as it is a tale of the pursuit of magic and how a fool finds the divine through this pursuit. The main character is saved by the intervention of Isis, Queen of Heaven and Goddess of Magic, and becomes a priest in her cult.
Something about this theme has always resonated with me, probably because of how it was paralleled in Disney's Pinocchio when he is taken away to Pleasure Island and starts to transform into a jackass. Similarly, the Blue Fairy grants him this transformation into a "real" boy, a salvific state of deeper realization of his true nature and the fulfillment of his deepest wish and greatest hope.
The golden Ass is a kind of parody on greek culture of its time. Isis is probably a plot motif in that story, because we need a magic that metamorphosizes the protagonist. In as much as the original transformation was do to a acolytes screwup, there needs to be a higher order to undo that.
But if we look at the greek usage of Egyptian belief systems what we find is that Egyptian beliefs system are a thin fragmented and incomplete substrate covered with a thick layer of alexandria greek beliefs. The ptolemeic system of politics adopted the Egyptians, at that time the greek system of written language and religion was young and not well structured. The adoption of Egyptian culture gave the ptolemic civilization an air of ancient attribution. In the East the Seleucids synchratized their gods with the ancient babylonian and persian gods, in an attempt to do the same.
These Ancient egyptians symbols just like now represent symbols that can be repurposed for any particular belief one chooses. As we see happening in the early 20th century. Despite the rather insanity of Crowley, toward the end he kind of states he really never needed any of these symbols, he could just be "spiritual" walking around.
GREAT VIDEO!
The fact that syncretism is a hallmark of the NeoPagan movement often overshadows its prevalence in PaleoPaganism--to the degree that modern observers might be forgiven if they get the mistaken impression that syncretism is a uniquely modern phenomenon.
So I think it's worth mentioning that Pagan syncretism in general and Isis syncretism specifically were a feature of Classical Paganism.
In The Golden Ass, Book XI, Lucius has a vision of the Goddess, who says to him that her divinity is "worshipped in differing forms, with varying rites, under many names, by all the world. There, at Pessinus, the Phrygians, first-born of men, call me Cybele, Mother of the Gods; in Attica, a people sprung from their own soil name me Cecropian Minerva; in sea-girt Cyprus I am Paphian Venus; Dictynna-Diana to the Cretan archers; Stygian Proserpine to the three-tongued Sicilians; at Eleusis, ancient Ceres; Juno to some, to others Bellona, Hecate, Rhamnusia; while the races of both Ethiopias, first to be lit at dawn by the risen Sun’s divine rays, and the Egyptians too, deep in arcane lore, worship me with my own rites, and call me by my true name, royal Isis."
In fact, I've recited that passage in a NeoPagan ritual and then transitioned smoothly into Doreen Valiente's Charge of the Goddess--and no one present knew where one author stopped and the other began.
Of course, I know that you know this, but I wanted to bring it up because it's too often neglected in discussions of NeoPaganism.
Once again, thanks for the awesome video!
Learning about my favorite Goddess from a couple of my favorite religion scholar youtubers. Excellent start to the day! 💚
Thank you for this beautiful and informative video. As a FOI member I was able to meet Olivia Roberson many years ago. She was an amazing and vital individual and I will never forget her wisdom and deep compassion.🌜🌝🌛
Hi! Visiting from ReligionForBreakfast's channel. Thanks for such a great collaboration!
I recently came across Dion Fortune's novel Demon Lover in a used book store. She is definitely under discussed so I'm glad she came up here.
dion needs more attention
As someone who has worshipped Isis for many years, I want to thank you for such a great video. I had a life changing spiritual experience with the goddess when I visited her temple at Philae in 2000. She has been my guide ever since.
Im so glad we were gifted memberships in your stream these membership videos offer so much extra value

Such a cool video. Please keep it up and keep educating us Dr. Angela
Thank you! Will do!
Thank you for honoring the divine feminine in Isis and Helena von Hahn, among others. LOVE 🌜🌄🌍🏖☀🌎🌟🏕🌏🌅🌛
Great info! Also I must say Angela’s audio quality was stellar in this video!
Thank you for this wonderful and informative video! It’s just wonderful!
It would be interesting to look at what Florence Farr thought about Isis. I’ve read that she was an Egyptologist, and that she changed the magic of the Golden Dawn and made it more devotional, and less about degrees. She was quiet an adept
🌛🌚🌜 Your videos always reach me at the most interesting of times. Thank you for your work.
Thank you for a wonderful and insightful episode. Would never have known how adaptable and still relevant Isis is 🌛
Always great content. Thanks Dr. Puca. I'm off to watch Dr. Henry's video now. 🌙
🌛🌕🌜 I'm happy to see you again, Dr. Puca! Thanks to you, I learn more about such an iteresting goddess! 😃 I wish you a blessed Imbolc holiday and season! 😃
🌜I watched and liked the whole thing. Good to see the Mistress of Magic getting some attention.
thank you, Angela ❤
🌝 Thank you for this video 🌛
I was named Isis after the Egyptian goddess 🙏🏻❤️✨️
Isis is fascinating! 🌛🌕🌜 Thank you, Dr . Puca, for your in-depth research on Isis. I highly appreciate this presentation, your passion for this topic really shines through. I am definitely going to watch Religion for Breakfast's video (I love his channel almost as much as I love yours), and I am going to make time this year to research more into this surprime goddess, outside from Egyptian mythos - Thanks for the inspiration (:
I appreciate the accessibility of resources to help modern people to connect with Pagan spirituality. In my experience, various Pagan traditions often fulfill deep spiritual needs in ways that many other religious traditions do not (e.g. connection to nature, integration of femininity and spirituality, etc.)
For a sec thought that video's a banger, but then realized it's still kinda bombshell

🌑I remember that Saturday morning kids show of Isis and Shazam!
I couldn't find the moon emoji. But this was very enlightening. I was looking into the Golden Dawn but I didn't know Isis was apart of their practices.
Really enjoyed this essay. Thank you 🌙
Great content. From my perspective the excessive bass in your audio makes the video a little hard to listen to, but i stuck it out for the knowledge cause it's worth it. Keep up the good work!
Sorry about that
@@drangelapucaJust a heads up that it was also hard for me to hear. Not sure why, felt more like the softness of your voice/speech. Which shouldn’t be a problem, but watching this after Andrew’s video the contrast was very noticeable. I like to put on these videos while doing the dishes or something like that, but this doesn’t work if the audio is a bit muffled. And although I have now watched this one to the end - and it was totally worth it - mostly I have to give videos with such issues a miss, cos, well, the dishes do need to get done 🙃
🌙 interesting stuff!
Thank you so much for this video, it's so informative!
Thank you! 🌙
🌙 Thank you for this video. I enjoyed it and the companion video very much.
Your compassion in dealing with these issues is admirable, thank you ❤ 🌙
🌙 Non posso sempre lasciare le emoji perché spesso ascolto mentre lavoro, ma i video li vedo fino alla fine. Grazie per l'ennesimo video interessante!
Great video Dr. Puca. Isis has surpassed any knowledgeable perspective of her divine feminine figure as a beacon of enlightened wisdom and inner connection of ourselves to help us be more conscious of our purpose in life.🌜🌝🌛
Thank you. 🌜
Thanks!

Angela I love the content it's perfect but you need to do some research on how to fix your audio quality. Peace and love can't wait to see what you do in the future!
Thanking You Once Again Dr Puca! Namestw 💫
🌛 Thank you.

New follower and I really enjoyed this topic! However, the audio sounds very muffled and that made it hard to follow everything. But I'm excited to future videos :)
🌚 thank you for your lecture ❤
You are so welcome
thank you 🌝🌚
Great video, I can't believe you found that old 1970s TV show.😂 🌚
Great lecture, Doc. Thanks! 🌕 Have you ever had the opportunity to witness either of the two festivals described by Dr. Henry?
I'm impressed that The Secrets Of Isis (1975-76) was pictured here. Loved that show as a kid. In hindsight, I wonder whether presenting a comic book incarnation of a pagan goddess to children was controversial. I cannot find evidence of anything like a moral panic over it. Maybe some aspects of culture were simply more relaxed back then.
The full song of glorifying goddess Isis from the Pharaoh's Golden Parade.

The full song of glorifying goddess Isis from the Pharaoh's Golden Parade, it's a hymn of goddess Isis from the book of the dead, suitable for the incarnation of the Ancestors in the presence of the descendants, written in ancient Egyptian language and also performed in this video in ancient Egyptian language, very captivating song and here is the translation of the lyrics :
O people and the spirit that dwells on the highest mountain
She is the only lady
Give veneration to Isis, for she gives birth to the day
Give veneration to Isis, for She is the lady of the West and the two lands together
She is the one who gives birth to the day
Give veneration to Isis, for She is the lady of the West and the two lands together
O my only lady
You are honored and esteemed; you are the great eye of Ra in the provinces
You surround your veneration all around,
You sacrifice the precious to save our country
O my only lady to be proud
She is the lady of the West and the two lands together
You are honored and esteemed
You are honored and esteemed
You are the lady of the West and the two lands together
You are honored and esteemed
You are the lady of the West and the lands together
You are honored and esteemed
You are the great eye of Ra
You surround your veneration all around
You sacrifice the precious to save our country
Respect to Isis, for she is the one who gives a lot to the king of upper and lower Egypt
Happy Birthday 🎉

Please make a video on Egyptian Goddess Neith
Ah, yes...Isis! One of my top ten Goddesses! (If you want to know the others, I'd be happy to share!)
One of my regrets about the time I lived in Ireland was I never got up to Clonegal Castle to visit Lady Olivia; a friend of mine did, though, and said it was amazing and she was very cool!
After she died in 2014 (if I am not mistaken), my tradition did recognize her as a modern Sancta, and we had a ceremony for such at PantheaCon in 2015, which was quite interesting for a number of reasons. One of her students/initiates was there, and said that Lady Olivia herself was present in spirit for the proceedings. ;)
We're not worthy! 🌒🙇♂️
🌙 😊
Very interesting
Thank you for the through exploration of Isis 🌜
Would you say there is overlap between Isis and Hekate? I've seen them both being used in modern ritual and veneration with similar attributes
Dr Puca made a video on Hekate in contemporary Paganism. It would be interesting to see one that compares the two Goddesses in today's world. ua-cam.com/video/y_-9X08-Zxg/v-deo.html
Sounds like we're collectively going through this again.

🌝 Inspiring. Opt for the full moon emo, as in my language there are two separate words for full moon and not full moon, where the feminine is ascribed to the full one. So be it😅
🌙🌛🌒🌜I've always loved Isis. Goddess of fertility, mother but not afraid to rescue her husband.
She's a role model for women everywhere
🌕 thank you for the interesting and well-structured video; quite thought-provoking as I think of how Isis is referenced in some belly dance communities
