it amazes me that even with the technology of today the instrumental recorded by the Beatles back in 1965 sounded way better. Excellent attempt though, any cover band of today would crave to have such a great backing band
Thank you. The technology today and then are different things, hard to compare. Also, we are comparing affordable home equipment to one of the most notorious studios and bands of all time. Amazing ! This is one of your best. Love to see and listen to your videos. Why didn't you use the violin bass though ? That's what Paul used on the Far East tour and studio recording of this song.
We don’t think so - it’s always hard to tell but to us it sounded like the same bass that’s on”Michelle” which shows the Rick being used. Paul specifically said he thought the Rick recorded better because it stayed in tune “all the way up the neck” - would just seem odd that he would purposely pick the hofner on a song that stays mostly up the neck. We compared both the hofner and the Rick to the original and agreed the Rick sounded the most like the recording. It’s Paul McCartney - he makes every bass sound like him. Just for us, this bass sounded more accurate, so we used it.

@@neilcandeloramusic I'll weigh into this one as this is one of my favourite riffs and songs of all time. I REALLY love the fact Macca chose to double the guitars in the same octave - meaning he had to go way up high on the bass and play a much more complicated fingering pattern that that which is required to play the opening riff on the lower strings of standard guitar. It is such a great tone played up high on the RIC and I think it is maintained throughout for that very reason: to my ear there is no dropping down to play the riff in the lower octave. I can see why various people playing in tribute bands or doing covers do it: it's no mean feat to keep that fret shifting riff going while also singing the high vocal harmonies. This is one of those times when Paul McCartney showed his early brilliance and superiority as a performing musician. He was definitely no ordinary bear!
