Thanks Nigel, I’m just back in from a 3 hour walk so one way or another I’ll be on that start line in Capetown in 5 weeks time. It’s all just one big crazy adventure 💪😊🏃🏼♂️
Thanks Will, my confidence is high that I’ll be flying in 5 weeks time in Capetown…and if not I’ll be power walking and that’s ok too. So long as I get to experience the course I’ll be happy 😊
Thanks Ken, yeah all the general bruising from my fall has healed up well in the past week so if things are looking good on the X-ray on Tuesday then I am confident that the UTCT will be a great day out.
that's tough! but keep up the good spirits. been out of racing myself for 4 weeks now because of an injury, it sucks but makes one appreciate the good times more. clavicles heal fast! you can do it!
Thanks man, I’m not sure if you watched my TransGranCanaria videos but that was a very similar situation only worse because it was a leg injury. At least with this my legs are fine so I will be on that start line. And while both of these are disasters in one sense I actually think they enrich my life more than if it had been plane sailing. For one thing, without that earlier injury I wouldn’t have started making videos and so we wouldn’t be talking right now. Capetown here I come 💪🏃🏼♂️👍
Thank you. The general bashing my body took has all pretty much healed up, now it’s just the small matter of a broken clavicle 🤔. My checkup next Tuesday will tell a lot so I plan to post an update after that. 👍💪🏃🏼♂️
Yes, fingers crossed indeed, but the confidence is high at the moment. I won’t do anything crazy before talking to the doc on Tuesday but I would say there is a 90% chance I will get to experience the beauty and splendor of the race 👍
Sorry to here man, but great spirt. Smash it BOY. I just fell sick before my first trail run here in the New Zealand mountains, it was only 30k ( nothing to you I'm sure) but tough for me being a road runner. I told myself sick or not I'm smashing it , and that I did. You got this man. Rest up 🙏 💪 🙏
Thanks man, and great to hear your own story. Well done, no stopping you now. Obviously I would rather be fit and healthy but I do find being in this position adds a bit of “spice” to the proceedings. If I couldn’t start then that would be a disaster but I am confident now that I will be there so I am really looking forward to a great day out on the iconic trails of Capetown.
Blimey, you don’t do things by halves do ya!? Good luck in the recovery, hope you get well enough to do it.. but, there’ll always be another race , and only one body.. make sure you’re recovered to take the back pack, and the jiggling. 🤞🏼
Thanks, and yes I agree with you 100%. I am not in this for any individual race, I am in this for life so if I think there could be long term ramifications then I won’t hesitate to sit this one out. That said, with a 24hr cut off I would love nothing more that a long walk in the hills around Capetown. Let’s see how this one plays out 🤞
Hey Brian, yes, taking the poles was the right decision as there are enough steep climbs to justify them. The issue is, when you get tired, it is easy to use them when you should in fact be running. I walked the last few climbs when, in retrospect, I had the energy to slow-run them and that could have so easily cost me my 3rd place. So the lesson is use them but be very honest with yourself “I’m walking but could I be running”
Wishing you a speedy recovery Dave, hope your back 100% soon.

Blooming Heck Dave. Hope you recover well and soon

That's a blow Dave . Fingers crossed on a fast recovery .

Get well soon Dave. ;-) Good to see you recently in person!!!! Well done again on another incredible performance in The EcoTrail. :-)
Thanks Ray, loved hearing your plans for 2023. Clearly you have no intention of letting the old man in 💪🏃🏼♂️
@@filmmytrailrun , definitely not Dave, not when I have inspiration from so many other lads like Mark and Stephen B. :-)

and best of luck in Cape Town
Thanks Brian, I’m feeling 10 times more confident now after my check-up on Tuesday 👍

Why do you think you used the poles too much on Ecotrail? You said the right decision overall but would love to hear more.

@@filmmytrailrun well for me at ecotrail it was I am running and I should be walking which morphed into I should be running but I can barely walk. :)
