Delighted to capture Registration, The Race, and The Aftermath in this short video. It really was a great day in Chicago and so well organsied. I hope you enjoy it.
Congratulations Dave on your PB @ 2h 54m ! Phenomenal ! And you still captured the event on video for us couch potatoes at home !! Looks like conditions were ideal. A day that will live long in the memory for sure !
Thanks Ewan and well done yourself. You’ll be sporting the big medal next month then? That’s some achievement. All the best in your preparations for the CWU. As you probably know, that race holds a special place in my heart ❤️
Delighted you got a PB. Good on ya. Looked amazing. Da crowds were out in force and good + noisy! It was worth da wait. Think u got da Chicago Marathon on a really good year.
Thanks Jon, I was thankful that it all worked out ok in the end. Yeah, now it’s time (already 😱) to start looking to 2024 and thinking what would this young man might like to give a whirl 🤔
Great running!! Looking forward to doing it this year hoping for a sub 3:30 was denied it in NY 2022 because of the heat.. well done! Abú🇮🇪 you made it look too easy lol
Thanks, yeah you’ll go sub 3.30 in Chicago for sure. New York is a tougher course. Best advice I can give is to stay consistent, and keep your fast fast and your slow slow. Best of luck 👍🏃🏻♂️💪
Thanks Joan, everything is easy after you’ve ran Leadville 😂. Best of luck in the DCM. That’s another great day on the running calendar. Go out with the pacers, switch off your brain and just enjoy yourself 💪🏃🏻♀️🇮🇪
Thanks Stuart, yeah, crowds were mental when we were coming through…and we started at 7.30am!! I had forgotten what these big city marathons were like. Chicago did a great job in managing what were colossal crowds 🙏
Great video man and Congrats on the PR! Is there anything you wish you would have had prior to the race starting after you checked in your bag? I'm running chicago this year and just trying to prepare gear. thanks.
Thanks, no, kept it simple. 6-8 gels during the race with water. Then some comfortable clothes in the drop bag at the end. One tip I would give you though is: if you are arranging to meet other runners after the marathon I would recommend meeting while you’re still “inside”, maybe near the fountain somewhere. Once you go outside to the recommended meeting area it is crazy busy. Enjoy yourself, it’s a great, super well organized world major 💪🏃🏻♂️❤️
Thanks kingkobra4909, this is definitely my longest sojourn away from UA-cam. Going back to work was the main culprit. That, and the lack of daylight Monday to Friday. Then, just like running, once you break the rhythm it is much harder to get back into it. Hopefully I will record the Sean O’Brien in two weeks and that will kick start things. Thanks for reaching out and hey…watch this space 👍
@@filmmytrailrun looking forward to it david. We are having withdrawal symptoms 🤣. Best of luck in the S.O.B! If there is a tracker, please post the link!
Thanks Tadeusz, the quads felt a bit wobbly the last couple of miles. I had a bug that floored me in the week leading into the race so I’m not sure if it was that or carryover from Leadville because the quads were slow to come around after that race. Either way, I was very happy with how my body performed in Chicago. A great day was had by all 👍
Thanks, yeah, Chicago is a good course for a personal best. People think New York should be flat but, as you probably found out, there are plenty of sneaky ups and downs in there. Thanks for tuning in 👍
Congrats Dave but your reaction crossing the line to a brand new pb was very underwhelming!!! C’mon man!!! You gotta shout the place down!!!!! Congrats
Ha ha, thanks Sean, had I known at the time of crossing the line I would have made a bigger furore. I was sick for the 10 days prior to the race so I wasn’t expecting anything special so, at the time, my underplayed excitement was purely associated with coming in under 3 hours. Signing up for the LA marathon in March so hopefully you will see the house brought down on that occasion 😀
Hi dave, well done and great video.
Thanks Joe, yeah, that day worked out better than I had expected. I hope your own running is going well.
Good work!!
Thank you, and thanks for watching 🙏

Thanks Murs, yes, it all worked out nicely in the end. And thanks also for all your support on the day 🥰
Congrats! I was 20 mins behind you. 5th star, will complete the majors in NY next month then focus is on CWU ‘24 preparations…
Thanks Ewan and well done yourself. You’ll be sporting the big medal next month then? That’s some achievement. All the best in your preparations for the CWU. As you probably know, that race holds a special place in my heart ❤️
Well done Dave!! 💜💛🇮🇪
Thanks Ann, that was a much more straightforward day than Leadville 😀
Delighted you got a PB. Good on ya. Looked amazing. Da crowds were out in force and good + noisy! It was worth da wait. Think u got da Chicago Marathon on a really good year.
Thanks Kate, yeah, conditions couldn’t have been better. That’s the racing done with now for a wee while so we’ll enjoy a little R&R 😴 🛌

Omg sub 3hour marathon and you finished it looking like you'd done a 2k run! Triple that time for my dcm 😂
Well done Dave

The crowds seemed great compared to the live coverage of the Elite wave, where everything seemed deserted. Well done on a fantastic PB Dave!

Congratulations. How did the legs feel running Chicago after Leadville?

You were fast with a gopro and the course looked super flat which was a bit different to New York
