Thanks Ann, ah yes I visited Canada about 10 years ago and as I recall there was an equally vast…if not vaster…amount of wilderness knocking about up there too. Thanks for riding along, things are about to get interesting 👍

Luving the updates.. really interested how to go with nutrition.. dnf’ed Kerry at 128k and transgrandcaneria at 78k due to nutrition. Dublin mountains 100k in the bank this year but took nothing on for last 20k 😬.. I know everyone is different but will be following closely ..

Thanks Marc, yeah, gut issues is the number 1 cause of DNF’s in ultra running. I’ve always managed to get the job done when the stomach issues started but it’s been a real slog on occasions. Did the RX bars yesterday and next week I plan to try just gels. After that I will start mixing it up to see if I can find a winning combination. The one piece of advice I can give you is: if you still have time on the clock don’t quit. Slowing down and giving your stomach a chance to chill for a little while always helps. I never worry about getting sick, that’s just par for the course. And if all else fails we have plenty of fat reserves we can tap into…but that’s the slog I mentioned above 😳 Thanks for tuning in 👍

Love to hear your thoughts on training and distance, I bring this up as you mentioned your not a fan of long runs as it hinders other workouts. For some doing a 70km distance with 3,500m. Can’t quite figure long run distance should be, what are your thoughts on weekly distance as your peak vs solid build? Thanks for the advice

Hey no problem, thanks for tuning in. Here’s my take. You don’t get any physiological improvements after you have been running for about 3 to 3.5hours so any runs longer than this are purely for your head, your confidence, checking your kit, your nutrition etc. The difference between my peak training, which I will be doing in the next 4 weeks and my solid training, which I have been doing for the past 4 weeks, is consistency. I could afford to have a few weekends there when I did very little running. It didn’t impact my fitness but it didn’t really push me forward either. Now it is time to put in 4 weeks where my mileage is 60 to 70 miles per week with a good mix of training. Leadville, as I understand, is a very runnable course so I will lean slightly more towards road running. More than 70 miles per week and I have found I am much more prone to injury and fatigue. 50 to 70 miles is the sweet spot. I hope that helps 👍

@@filmmytrailrun Ecellent advice, I really appreciate you taking the time provide feedback. That’s seems to be a solid plan and will incorporate into my training, and see how it works out. Again thanks, best of luck with Leadville looking forward to your content with this race.
